Ultimate Guide to ZoGuard Plus for Dogs

Meet the 3-to-1 Parasite Killing Liquid: ZoGuard Plus for Dogs!

ZoGuard Plus for Dogs is a veterinarian-recommended dog medication that protects your dogs from dangerous external parasites - fleas, ticks, and chewing lice. ZoGuard Plus for Dogs is a monthly, spot-on application therapy that also prevents Lyme disease. ZoGuard Plus for Dogs guarantees pup comfort.

How does ZoGuard Plus for Dogs work?

ZoGuard Plus for Dogs is a medication with the two active ingredients that are also in Frontline Plus for Dogs - Fipronil and (S)-methoprene - that kill chewing lice, ticks, and attacks the flea's life cycle. ZoGuard Plus kills the parasites on contact by storing itself in the oil glands in your pet's skin and hair follicles continuously for the next 30 days.

Fipronil for dogs is a phenylpyrazole insecticide that disrupts the insect's central nervous system by blocking the GABA-gated chloride channels that regulate cellular excitability to the contaminated insect's neuromuscular system and glutamate-gated chloride (GluCl) channels that control movement, feeding, and behavior.

(S)-methoprene is an insecticide chemical that controls hatching eggs, obstructs the development of the immature flea (i.e., flea pupae and larvae) into a breeding adult, and proper growth into a healthy viable adult flea. Together, these active ingredients deter parasites and put a stop to the flea life cycle.

Is Zoguard Plus as Good as Frontline?
Answer

ZoGuard Plus is a flea and tick treatment for dogs. The tick treatment medicine contains the same active ingredients as the Frontline Plus - fipronil and S-methoprene. Therefore, yes, it's similar to the Frontline and Frontline Plus medication and is as good. The medication is intended to help dogs fight chewing lice, ticks, fleas, flea eggs, and flea larvae. Moreover, ZoGuard Plus is more affordable, which means it's more value for money. The medication is effective against all stages of the flea, which helps break the parasite's life cycle and prevents reinfestations from happening. ZoGuard Plus is also waterproof, which means it stays on even after bathing and is also safe from direct exposure to sunlight.

Does Zoguard Plus for Dogs Work?
Answer

ZoGuard Plus is identical to Frontline Plus and has the same active ingredients but at a cheaper cost. The medication offers the same tick and flea protection level as Frontline Plus and is very effective regardless of how severe the dog's flea infestation is. Every package of the ZoGuard Plus has roughly a 3-month dosage, which effectively provides 12 weeks of flea and tick protection to the dog. According to research, ZoGuard Plus has been proven to eliminate adult fleas for around three months. Pet parents should use the medication monthly to control chewing lice, ticks and prevent the chance of reinfestation. ZoGuard Plus is a waterproof medication and continues to be effective despite exposure to elements like water and sun rays.

Is Zoguard Safe for Dogs?
Answer

If used as intended, ZoGuard Plus is completely safe for dogs. However, consult a veterinarian before administering to an already medicated, debilitated, or aging dog. Moreover, it's advised to practice caution and consult a vet before treating a dog with known organ dysfunction and dogs with dermatitis or other skin conditions. In rare cases, your dog may react to the medications and show some symptoms. These symptoms include redness, scratching, or other discomforts. If your dog is showing any sign of discomfort after applying ZoGuard, bath it with mild soap and rinse with a lot of water. Additionally, the medication is meant only for external use. In case of ingestion, the dog may show symptoms like excessive drooling and foaming at the mouth. In such a case, immediately feed the dog and observe for the next 24 hours. If the symptoms persist even after 24 hours, consult a veterinarian immediately.

Answer

Now, cut the notched side of the tube with scissors after turning it away from your face. Part your dog's fur at the affected area or between the shoulder blades and apply the entire content of the tube to one spot on the dog's skin. The ZoGuard Plus comes in four packages where the orange box is meant for dogs between 4-22lbs, the purple box for dogs between 23-44lbs, the red box for dogs between 45-88lbs, and the green box for dogs weighing 89-132lbs. The medication is available in packaging of 3-6 months dosage.

Moreover, the medication is for external use only, so exercise precaution to ensure that your dog doesn't ingest it accidentally. After applying the medication, allow it to dry completely to prevent any accidental ingestion by licking. Also, ZoGuard is a parasitic medicine and shouldn't be administered with another parasitic medication. Dog's suffering from an existing skin condition, organ dysfunction, old age, and other such conditions will require the vet's guidance before starting ZoGuard treatment.

Is Zoguard Plus Safe for Pregnant Dogs?

The active ingredients are Fipronil and (S)-Methoprene, which kill fleas, flea eggs, flea larvae, chewing lice, and ticks quickly. The medication is effective for breaking the flea life cycle and preventing Lyme disease as well. The drug is also effective against mites that are the root cause of sarcoptic mange.

Is Zoguard Plus for Dogs Waterproof?
Answer

Yes, the ZoGuard Plus anti-flea and anti-tick medicine's unique selling point is that it's waterproof. After being applied and dried, the medication stays waterproof for as long as 30 days. It can survive emersion in water, bathing, rain, and even direct exposure to sunlight. However, ensure that the medication is thoroughly dried after applying to ensure its water resistance.

What can I give my dog to prevent fleas and ticks?
Answer

There are many topical treatments available that are applied directly to your dog's skin, usually between the shoulder blades. These treatments typically contain active ingredients such as fipronil, imidacloprid, or selamectin, which kill and repel fleas and ticks. Examples include ZoGuard Plus, Frontline, Advantage, and Revolution. Oral flea and tick medications are available in tablet or chewable forms. These medications work by either killing or inhibiting the reproductive capabilities of fleas and ticks when they bite your dog. Some popular oral medications include Bravecto, NexGard, and Simparica. Flea and tick collars contain active ingredients that repel and kill fleas and ticks. These collars are worn around your dog's neck and provide protection for a specified period. Examples include Seresto and Scalibor collars. Be sure to choose a collar specifically designed for dogs, as some products meant for other animals can be toxic to dogs. Flea and tick shampoos and sprays are also effective options for preventing infestations. These products contain insecticides that kill fleas and ticks on contact. However, they may have limited residual effects, meaning they do not provide long-term protection. Regular use may be required, especially during peak flea and tick seasons.

What is the safest flea prevention for dogs?
Answer

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) recommends using products containing the active ingredients s-methoprene or pyriproxyfen as alternatives to potentially more toxic chemicals for flea and tick control. S-methoprene and pyriproxyfen are insect growth regulators (IGRs) that disrupt the life cycle of fleas and ticks, preventing their development and reproduction. These ingredients are considered to have a lower toxicity profile compared to some other chemicals used in flea and tick control.

What is a natural flea killer for dogs?
Answer

There are several natural options you can consider as flea killers for dogs. While they may not be as potent as chemical products, they can still help in reducing and managing flea infestations. Diluted apple cider vinegar can be used as a rinse after bathing. Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water and pour it over your dog, avoiding the eyes and sensitive areas. Fleas dislike the smell and taste of vinegar, which may help repel them. Certain essential oils have natural flea-repellent properties. Dilute a few drops of essential oil such as lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, or cedarwood in water, and lightly spray it on your dog's coat. Remember to use essential oils sparingly and with caution, as some dogs may be sensitive to them. However, these natural remedies may not be effective in eliminating a severe flea infestation.

Does coconut oil repel fleas and ticks on dogs?
Answer

Coconut oil has been claimed to have some flea and tick-repellent properties, but its effectiveness in repelling these pests is not well-documented or scientifically proven. While coconut oil may have some benefits for the skin and coat of dogs, it should not be solely relied upon as the primary method for flea and tick prevention. If you choose to use coconut oil as a supplement for your dog's overall skin health, it should be used sparingly and in moderation. Too much coconut oil can lead to digestive upset and weight gain, as it is high in fat and calories.

Do indoor dogs need flea prevention?
Answer

Yes, indoor dogs can still benefit from flea prevention measures. While indoor dogs may have a lower risk of encountering fleas and ticks compared to dogs that spend more time outdoors, fleas can be brought into your home through various means, such as on your shoes, clothing, or other pets that go outside. Additionally, fleas can also hitch a ride on other animals, like rodents, or infestations can occur from previous residents. Fleas can quickly multiply and infest your home, leading to discomfort for your dog and potential health issues. Flea bites can cause itching, allergic reactions, and even transmit diseases. Therefore, it's prudent to take preventative measures even if your dog primarily stays indoors.

Speak with your vet if your dog is pregnant, nursing, using other medications, aged, or has any debilitating condition before treating your dog with ZoGuard Plus. Dogs undergoing any skin dermatitis medications should speak with your vet before applying ZoGuard Plus for Dogs.

Just what I was looking for at a great price, but with some unexpected results.

One word of caution when using this product: Don't let your dog rub up against your leather furniture. After I applied it to my dog she got up on the couch to lay in her usual spot. When she did, the area on her shoulders that I applied the ZoGuard to came in contact with the leather backrest portion on the couch. Almost instantly it removed some of the dye and left a rather sizeable light spot. Hopefully I can locate a product to repair it. What a surprise, to say the least!

Worth it!

I was wary of switching from my usual product but this is just as good if not more effective. Highly recommend.
