"What is frontline plus?"
Frontline Plus is a monthly, topical flea and tick medication that helps to protect your pets from these, and other, parasites, such as chewing lice and sarcoptic mites. Not only does Frontline Plus kill fleas, it puts a complete halt on their life cycle by effectively killing every stage of flea life.
"What Are the Frontline Plus Ingredients?"
The active ingredients in Frontline Plus are fipronil and s-methoprene. Fipronil acts as a broad-spectrum insecticide that paralyzes affected parasites by disrupting their central nervous system, thereby rendering them immobile, and then killing them. The s-methoprene is what is known as an insect growth regulator (IGR), which allows Frontline Plus to stop the continuation of the flea life cycle.
"What are the different types of frontline plus?"
Frontline Plus for Dogs and Frontline Plus for Cats are two form of the medication for these different pets. They are both topical solutions. Frontline Plus is also available as Frontline Spray.
"Where Can I Find Frontline Plus Directions?"
The more common, topical version of Frontline Plus is administered directly onto your pet's skin. Part the hair at their shoulder blades and place the tip of the applicator tube directly onto their exposed skin. Then squeeze out the entire contents of the tube. Wait for the medicine to be absorbed before petting. Do not apply directly to the hair.

The spray version of Frontline Plus should be sprayed on the left side, right side, and along your pet's back, belly, and face. If you are uncomfortable spraying your pet in the face, just spray it onto a cloth and rub it on. To apply, first ruffle your pet's fur to expose their skin. To find the proper dosage, use the Frontline Spray Dosage Calculator.
"How is frontline plus Different for dogs and cats?"
While the ingredients may be the same in both Frontline Plus for cats and dogs (fipronil and s-methoprene), the dosages for dogs are much higher, and each medicine's makeup is tailored to the species for which it's designed. You may hear stories of too-frugal pet parents using a syringe to dose out a single large dog prescription across 4 or 5 cats -- not only is this practice dangerous to the pets, it is also a violation of federal drug laws. Please only use the recommended dose. Your pets will thank you for it.
"Are There Any frontline plus Side Effects?"
Dogs or cats may experience a slight irritation at the point(s) of application, but they usually subside within a day or two. If, however, the condition persists, contact your vet immediately.
