We found her THUNDERBUDDY!!!
First off, 1 our dogs hate thunder and loud noises, so we always joked they had each other as 'Thunderbuddies' when storms rolled in here in the Midwest. Anyhoo our newest dog RIPLEY, age 3, has a history of ALLERGIES and chewing herself!!!! She gets allergies in the autumn, and she will literally chew a hole on her leg and she almost chewed off a n!pple! She had this weird fungal thing as a puppy and has LOTS of scar tissue - it's this scar tissue that bugs her when the allergies kick in. SO I googled "thundershirt and allergies".... read some testimonials... and that very day bought the Thundershirt #size small, perfect for our 25 pound girl#. I tell you what I am a BELIEVER in this shirt! She actually WANTS to put this shirt on - and this is a dog who has the weirdest, most wirey thick fur you've ever seen. She'd just been shaved & bathed to help with those allergies, and the Vet said to give 25mg of Benedryl per day... but.... the bath & Benedryl were NOT stopping Ripley from chewing her legs and n!pple. SO... enter the Thundershirt.... I gave her a treat off of the shirt like it says, and put the shirt on her; three easy Velcro-straps later, Ripley was CALM... she just kinda laid there in a non-neurotic way - rare for her; she is the epitome of ADHD/Neurotic-dog - ... slept and was calm and NO CHEWING. It's been a week, and we keep the Thundershirt on Ripley every night - she sleeps with us, and she USED TO mess around on the bed and bite herself or just be neurotic; no more. She sleeps soundly through the night and has the best happy-content-dog look on her face. The shirt is very sturdy - it's put up with one of our equally neurotic cats trying to nest in it ... you know how cats do that kneading thing, he has claws and has been making beds on her shirt the last few days... maybe he needs one!... Methinks this will be a lifelong thing for Ripley, once this shirt wears out, we WILL buy another one. It has TOTALLY helped with her allergies and her aloofness. One note: She will NOT eliminate with this shirt on... she CAN because the dog's nethers are totally open and free; we tried to walk her and have her eliminate with the shirt on, she refused... I guess she fears getting it dirty? We LOVE our Thunderbuddy!!!!
