Overview of Denamarin Chewable Tablets for Dogs

What Is Denmarin for Dogs?

Denamarin is a chewable tablet that contains two active ingredients that support liver function. It protects against liver damage and supports the liver healing itself as well. It is also used for dogs with declining liver function to increase the efficacy of the liver.

What Are Denamarin Chewable Tablets for Dogs Made Of?

Denamarin has two active ingredients. One is called S-Adenosylmethionine or SAM-e, and the other is called Silybin. When you give SAM-e liver supplements for dogs, the levels of glutathione increases. Glutathione is an essential marker of liver health, and increased levels indicate a healthy liver.

SAM-e also prevents cell death in the liver and can promote the repair of the cells and regeneration. Silybin is derived from milk thistle and is also known as silymarin. It helps by maintaining optimal oxidative balance in the liver, which boosts liver function.

Do I Need a Prescription for This?

No, you do not need a prescription to buy Denamarin chewable tablets for dogs. These tablets are a nutritional supplement, not a prescription medication. It is available to buy over the counter.

What Is the Dosage for Denamarin Chewable Tablets in Dogs?

As this is a nutritional supplement, the recommended dosages are printed on the bottle itself. These are only a guideline to give them to your dog. Your vet can make modifications to this guideline that is more suited to your dog's particular needs. You can give Denamarin to your dog according to the following chart:

Up to 6 lbs 1/4th tablet
7 - 15 lbs tablet
16 - 30 lbs One tablet
31 - 45 lbs 1.5 tablets
46 - 60 lbs Two tablets
61 - 75 lbs 2.5 tablets
76 - 90 lbs Three tablets
91 - 105 lbs 3.5 tablets
Over 105 lbs Four tablets

Please consult your vet before starting any new supplement or medication, especially if your dog is already on some form of a treatment plan. Your vet will know best if there is any potential for drug interactions that can negatively affect your pet's health.

Are There Any Precautions I Need to Take When Giving Denamarin to Dogs?

Nutramax suggests that you give your dog Denamarin tablets on an empty stomach at least one hour before food. This is to ensure that the ingredients are absorbed most effectively.

When you introduce any new food into your dog's diet, you might notice he or she has a slight tummy upset. To mitigate that, you should make sure your dog has access to a clean bowl of water at all times. In case of any adverse reactions, please call your vet immediately.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Denamarin chewable tablets for dogs has no reported side effects. Liver function supplements for dogs generally should not have any side effects. However, if you observe any issues like vomiting or diarrhea, you should contact your vet.

If your dog has a sensitive stomach, you can expect minor issues like indigestion or bloating when introducing any new food, including SAM-e liver supplements for dogs.

Can I Give My Dog Denamarin if He Is Allergic to Milk Thistle?

Denamarin chewable tablets contain SAM-e and Silybin. The latter is an active ingredient extracted from milk thistle. You should consult your vet before you give this supplement to your dog because your dog might be allergic to this as well and might have an allergic reaction.

Why Does Denamarin Have to Be Given on an Empty Stomach?
Answer

Denamarin Chewable Tablets is one of the best liver supplements for dogs present in the market. Denamarin for dogs, as a liver supplement, helps your dog in regulating the enzymes produced by your dogโ€™s liver moderately. Denamarin for dogs is made up of two main components. This happens because when your pet is given the medicine after the food intake, due to the presence of food in your petโ€™s stomach the absorption rate of S-Adenosylmethionine present in the medicine drastically decreases or gets interrupted altogether. It is suggested that if your pet is young or if he or she is at an advanced age take special care after the administration of Denamarin Chewable Tablet to your pet. This type of diet can help reduce the workload on the liver and support its function by providing easily digestible and nutrient-rich foods. However, some liver problems, such as chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, or liver cancer, may require more intensive treatment and may not be fully reversible. In these cases, treatment may include a combination of medication, dietary changes, and potentially surgery or other interventions, depending on the specific situation. Early detection and treatment are key to a dog's chances of recovering from liver problems.

Changed her liver profile

My dog is a Rhodesian/lab mix 75# 13 year old. Daily 2 pills on an empty stomach brought her 4X high liver down closer to normal range. I couldn't believe it, and didn't give her any other drugs/supplements. This one is worth it! Very very well tolerated also, no side effects.

Changed My Dogs Life
VERIFIED PURCHASER

This medication has changed my dogs life. I know we canโ€™t ever fix his liver damage but this helps slow the damage . My dog acted like his old self as soon as he started taking it. 2 days after he ran out ( we had a 90 day supply ) he started vomiting again. Vomiting was our first sign that something was wrong. I wonโ€™t ever let it run out again!!

Chewables not tasty
VERIFIED PURCHASER

I have used the Denamarin capsules and the chewables. My dog, who loves her flea and heart chewables - and all treats- will not eat her dosage of two Denamarin chewables. They seem dry and likely tasteless and she now just waits for the peanut butter coating to eat them. I went to chewables because the capsule is very large and with a pill pocket it was too big and she only ate the pocket. I have decided to go back to those because then I only have to deal with one pill instead of two!

I thought when it said "chewable" it was soft and chewy. My dog doesn't like this any better than the blue tablets. I still have to cover it with peanut butter to get her to eat it. We will go back to the tablets.

large dog who doesn't like to swallow pills
VERIFIED PURCHASER

Chewable formula has been helpful. Vet said efficacy was comparable to non chewables. I don't know if effectiveness is same as nonchewables but it is easier to medicate dog. Only other issue is 96 pound dog dose is 3 1/2 chewables that are bigger diameter than a nickel. For a picky dog it can be trying to get the meds in.

My pom had a tumor and several lesions removed from her liver last year. My vet has recommended that she stay on the Denamarin for the rest of her life to help keep her liver healthy. Because she is so small, she has a hard time keeping the regular Denamarin pills down. The chewable tabs work great!
