Pancreatitis is a very painful condition. However, the exact cause determination is yet unknown or still in process but if your pet develops one you should provide them with conditions that can help you monitor their conditions and offer them the right feed and treatment. What wet dog food is good for digestive problems?
Answer

Hill's Prescription Diet i/d Low Fat Digestive Care Canned Dog Food is an excellent choice for dogs with digestive issues, including those with sensitive stomachs or who are prone to gastrointestinal upset. This formula is low in fat, making it suitable for dogs with fat-sensitive digestive disorders. It incorporates a blend of soluble and insoluble fibers to promote healthy digestion and includes easily digestible ingredients to facilitate nutrient absorption. Veterinarians may recommend Hill's Prescription Diet i/d Low Fat for dogs with specific digestive health needs. Other noteworthy options include Royal Canin Gastrointestinal High Energy Canned Dog Food, designed for dogs with acute and chronic digestive disorders, and Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EN Gastroenteric Canine Formula, which promotes digestive health with a balanced and easily digestible nutrient blend. Additionally, Hill's Science Diet Sensitive Stomach & Skin Wet Dog Food is formulated for dogs with sensitive stomachs and skin, featuring prebiotic fiber to support digestive well-being.

Is wet dog food good for an upset stomach?
Answer

Wet dog food has a higher moisture content compared to dry kibble. This can benefit dogs with upset stomachs, as it helps prevent dehydration. Adequate hydration is essential, especially if your dog is experiencing diarrhea or vomiting. Wet dog food is often palatable and easier to digest than dry kibble. It may be suitable for dogs with sensitive stomachs or those prone to digestive issues. The aroma and texture of wet dog food can be more appealing to dogs, even when they are not feeling well. This can help stimulate their appetite and encourage them to eat, which is important for maintaining energy levels and recovering from illness. Some wet dog foods come in limited ingredient formulations made from all-natural ingredients. This can be beneficial for dogs with food sensitivities or allergies. A simplified ingredient list may reduce the likelihood of triggering digestive upset. Opting for specially formulated sensitive stomach dog food or wet dog food enriched with prebiotics and/or probiotics can further support digestive health. These ingredients promote a healthy balance of gut microflora, aiding digestion and nutrient absorption.

What does digestive care do for dogs?
Answer

Digestive care dog foods are specially formulated to support and promote a healthy digestive system in dogs. These foods typically contain easily digestible ingredients and may include specific components to address common digestive issues. Digestive care dog foods often include high-quality, easily digestible protein sources. These proteins can come from animal meats that are gentle on the stomach and readily absorbed. Some digestive care dog foods have limited ingredient formulas, which can benefit dogs with food sensitivities or allergies. Simplifying the ingredients can help reduce the likelihood of triggering digestive issues. Many digestive care dog foods incorporate probioticsโ€”beneficial bacteria that support a healthy balance of gut microflora. Probiotics contribute to optimal digestion, nutrient absorption, and immune function. Prebiotics are non-digestible fibers that serve as a food source for beneficial bacteria in the gut. Including prebiotics in dog food helps promote the growth and activity of these beneficial microbes. Adequate fiber is essential for maintaining a healthy digestive system. It can help regulate bowel movements, prevent constipation, and support overall gastrointestinal health. Some digestive care dog foods contain carbohydrates that are easy for dogs to digest. This can be particularly beneficial for dogs with sensitive stomachs. Omega-3 fatty acids, commonly found in fish oil, can have anti-inflammatory properties and support overall health, including the digestive system. In cases of severe food sensitivities or allergies, digestive care dog foods may feature hydrolyzed proteins. These proteins are broken down into smaller, less allergenic fragments, making them less likely to trigger adverse reactions.

What can I give my dog to help digest food?
Answer

If you're looking to support your dog's digestion, there are several options you can consider. Yogurt contains beneficial bacteria (probiotics) that can aid in digestion. Make sure it is plain and doesn't contain added sugars or artificial sweeteners. Some dogs may be lactose intolerant, so introduce yogurt gradually and monitor for any signs of digestive upset. Similar to yogurt, kefir is a fermented dairy product that contains probiotics. It is a good source of beneficial bacteria and may be easier for some dogs to digest than regular milk. You can offer small amounts of fermented vegetables as these foods are rich in probiotics and can contribute to a healthy gut. Commercially available probiotic supplements designed for dogs can be added to their food. These supplements often contain specific strains of beneficial bacteria that support digestive health. Digestive enzyme supplements can aid in the breakdown of nutrients in the digestive tract. They can be particularly helpful for dogs with conditions that affect their ability to produce sufficient enzymes. Canned, plain pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) is a good source of fiber and can help regulate digestion. It can be particularly useful for addressing issues like diarrhea or constipation. Homemade or store-bought bone broth can provide additional nutrients and support digestive health. It's gentle on the stomach and can be appealing to picky eaters.

Is egg good for a dog's digestion?
Answer

Eggs can be a good source of nutrition for dogs and are generally safe for them to eat in moderation. They are a good source of protein, vitamins, and minerals. The egg white is high in protein, and the yolk contains healthy fats, vitamins A and D, and various nutrients. Eggs are also high in essential fatty acids and amino acids, making them a nutritious addition to a dog's diet. Essential fatty acids, such as omega-3 and omega-6, play a crucial role in supporting a dog's skin and coat health and promoting overall well-being. Feeding eggs to dogs can be beneficial for their coat and skin health, and they can also support a dog's overall well-being. However, it's essential to feed eggs in moderation, as too much can lead to an imbalance in the diet.

Digestive Care Low Fat ID

Hi, my dog is prone to pancreatitis. I used to buy hill's digestive care low fat ID wet food for him last year. I recently bought again with the new packaging. When I open the wet food, I notice there are white colour layers everywhere. This got me worried because it looks like layers of "fat". It's completely different from previous hill's low fat ID. Can you verify if it's safe for dogs with pancreatitis? And are those white layers "fat"??

D
Too much liquid

I have been feeding this product to my dog for two years. The last case that I purchased has a very different texture. It is about one thirds liquid and less chunky. At approximately $5/can, I would not expect so much liquid. It can hardly be described as "stew." I would no longer recommend this product .

GREAT for my midi golden doodle!

After reading several reviews there have been complaints of a change in the consistency of this product. NOTE: there are 2 i/d products that look very similar however one is a pate and the other is a stew (on the watery side). My dog loves both so I mix the 2 different cans together...slightly different ingredients in each one. She absolutely loves the taste. Tried her on other competitors low fat canned foods....she would eat for a couple days then turn her nose up at it. The Hill's low fat is devoured by her 95% of the time (there are times when she may have an upset tummy and nothing will entice her...not even home cooked chicken breasts...which I top her food with). However, that being said, I sure not every dog is going to really dig this food. Different strokes for different doggy palates.

perfect for after surgery!

we were given this product by our vet after out Saint Berdoodles stomach flipped a couple of days ago. once her appetite came back she has continued to like this formula. She is normally a pretty picky dog but this she will eat. Definitely something that we are keeping a can or two on hand just in case it is needed for other tummy issues

Low-Fat Nutrition Made Difference!

Following tests with different vets we still had no answers to Sam' abdominal pain without additional substantial expense. His symptoms are not atypical of pancreatitis but it was a possibility. Since this prescription food and some other lower fat diet and herbal changes, happily he has much less distress.

Dog with Pancreatitis

I have a 12 year old miniature poodle has pancreatitis and elevated liver readings. She spent 6 days in Animal Emergency Critical Care Center. She was refusing to eat....finally ate some low fat i/d stew and loved it! Now that is all she eats and so far her pancreatitis is behaving. Can't say enough about this product. So glad it comes in 12 oz cans! Coupons would be welcomed!

Hills Low Fat ID

My dog has digestive problems and can only eat this food. It has cured her issues for the most part. It's gotten better. The food she eats is the pate. I'm unsure if "original" is the pate. I couldn't order it from PetcarRX because the drop-down menu says "original" not pate. I'm not sure if they mean original stew flavor or pate. My dog can't eat the stew.

We give her canned in the morning and dry in the evening!! Thank you for such a great product!

unhappy

Unfortunately I have become disappointed with your product. While my dogs like the food and have done well with it, I find my last couple of cases have cans with mostly broth and not the meat or solid foods as in the past. Has something happened in your factory to have the quality so drastically reduced? I do not appreciate paying such a high price for mostly liquid/water. Unless I fine there is a significant improvement I will be finding another product to use. I understand from my vet they have had a number of similar complaints about this product as I. At this point there is no way I can recommend this dog food to a friend. Thank you.

This is the first one she really enjoys that doesn't upset her stomach. However, I wish it was a little cheaper in price, because my puppy eats 87 ounces of this dog food a day. So it is quite expensive feeding her. I also use the I/d dry now for my other dog and used it with my previous 90 lb. dog for 14 years. Hill's really makes great products.

thank you

I recommend this product to everyone because my dogs have been very healthy, no more vomiting, diarrhea or blood in the stool since they eat this food. Thank you for taking the time and creating these special foods for different health problems and in this way help the welfare of our dogs. Definitely recommend this product.

Minature Schnauzer with pancreatic woes
VERIFIED PURCHASER

Our 8 year old rescue Minature Schnauzer has done fantastically well on low fat ID canned food. A lot less stomach upsets on ID more than any OTHER products. Plus she LIKES it! Our vet Dr. Ambrosio at Academy Animal in Suffolk highly recommend this product.

Mixed feelings
VERIFIED PURCHASER

Recommended by our vet for possible pancreatic issues. Seems to have helped, but strongly opposed to calling this a "prescription" item. Will be trying similar low-fat options from other companies.

DIGESTIVE CARE I/D LOW FAT.
VERIFIED PURCHASER

Started off as a replacement for lean ground beef I gave as an appetizer for my sometimes-fussy 8 year old Boxer. I was concerned there would be a transitional period. There was not. He loved this stuff right off the bat and I am happy to give it to him as a healthy alternative to the ground beef. He looks forward to this as his appetizer and will often pass on the kibble until later.

OUR "OLD" DOG IS YOUNG AGAIN!
VERIFIED PURCHASER

I cannot praise this dog food highly enough! Our dog is at least 15 years old (she was an adult dog when we adopted her 14 years ago) and for the last several years had bouts of vomiting and diarrhea. A couple of months ago she had a very bad episode and our vet prescribed Hill's Prescription Diet i/d. What a change! She is almost acting like a puppy again! For the first time in ages she is playing with toys, jumping for joy at mealtime, excited when we return home, and just has a new lease on life. I feel like I have my dog back again and my only regret is that we didn't try this food sooner! I CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS HIGHLY ENOUGH! Since my dog is over 15, I don't know how much longer we will have her but I am so happy that we switched to this food and it is helping to make her later years happier. THANK YOU HILL'S! (P.S. Not a single episode of vomiting or diarrhea since she started this product!)
