Which flea and tick treatment is best for cats?
Answer

There are various flea and tick treatments available for cats, including topical treatments, oral medications, and collars. Topical treatments are applied directly to your cat's skin, usually between the shoulder blades or at the base of the neck. They typically provide protection against fleas, ticks, and sometimes other parasites. Examples include products containing ingredients such as fipronil, selamectin, or imidacloprid. Bravecto is a brand of flea and ticks treatment that is available for both cats and dogs. It contains the active ingredient fluralaner, which belongs to the isoxazoline class of drugs. Bravecto is known for its long-lasting efficacy against fleas and ticks. Bravecto for Cats is available as a topical treatment, usually applied at the base of the neck. It provides protection against fleas for up to 12 weeks and against ticks for up to 8 weeks. It is effective against both adult fleas and the immature stages of fleas, helping to break the flea life cycle. Oral medications are administered orally, usually in the form of chewable tablets or flavored treats. They work by killing fleas or ticks when they bite your cat. Some oral medications also provide protection against other parasites. Popular ingredients include drugs like nitenpyram, spinosad, or afoxolaner. What is a 12-week flea treatment?
Answer

A 12-week flea treatment refers to a type of flea prevention product that provides protection against fleas for a duration of 12 weeks or three months. These treatments are designed to offer extended efficacy, reducing the frequency of application compared to shorter-duration treatments. Some flea treatments, such as certain formulations of Bravecto, offer this extended protection period. These products typically contain active ingredients that remain active in the cat's system for an extended period, killing fleas and preventing re-infestation. Using a 12-week flea treatment can be convenient for pet owners, as it reduces the frequency of application and ensures continuous protection against fleas.

Does my cat need flea and tick treatment?
Answer

Whether or not your cat needs flea and tick treatment depends on various factors, including your cat's lifestyle, environment, and geographic location. If your cat spends time outdoors or comes into contact with other animals that could carry fleas or ticks, they have a higher risk of infestation. Outdoor cats are generally more susceptible to flea and tick infestations than indoor cats. Certain areas have a higher prevalence of fleas and ticks. If you live in an area where fleas and ticks are common, it's advisable to use preventive measures. Even if your cat is primarily indoors, fleas and ticks can still find their way into your home through various means, such as hitching a ride on your clothing or other pets. Additionally, if you have multiple pets in the household, one pet may bring fleas or ticks inside, putting all pets at risk. Flea infestations can cause allergic reactions and transmit diseases to cats. If your cat has a known flea allergy or any underlying health conditions, preventing fleas and ticks becomes even more important.

When should I give my cat flea and tick medicine?
Answer

The timing for giving your cat flea and tick medicine can depend on various factors, including the specific product you are using and your cat's individual needs. Many topical treatments and oral medications require a monthly application. These products typically provide protection against fleas and ticks for approximately 30 days. Examples include some spot-on treatments, certain chewable tablets, or topical solutions. Certain products are designed to provide protection for three months or approximately 12 weeks. These treatments often come in the form of topical or oral medications or longer-lasting topical solutions. They offer the convenience of less frequent application but still provide effective control against fleas and ticks during that extended period. Some flea and tick collars are formulated to provide protection for an extended period, such as 6 months or even up to 8 months. These collars continuously release active ingredients that repel and kill fleas and ticks. They offer long-lasting protection without the need for monthly application.

Do indoor cats get ticks?
Answer

While indoor cats are generally at a lower risk of tick infestations compared to outdoor cats, it is still possible for indoor cats to encounter ticks. Ticks can hitch a ride on clothing, shoes, or accessories and be brought into the home by humans who have been in outdoor environments where ticks are present. These ticks can then drop off and infest indoor areas, posing a risk to indoor cats. If you have other pets that go outdoors or if you bring outdoor animals (such as dogs) into your home, they can carry ticks and potentially transfer them to your indoor cat. Ticks can occasionally find their way into homes through open windows, doors, or other openings. While this is less common, it's still a possibility. Indoor cats may come into contact with rodents, such as mice or rats, that may be carrying ticks. If the cat catches and interacts with an infested rodent, it could potentially acquire ticks.

BraVecto for cats works well

We switched to BraVecto after our previous topical flea treatment wasn't working well anymore. It seems to do the trick for my indoor/outdoor cats. I love only having to apply it every 12 weeks.

We love Bravecta
VERIFIED PURCHASER

We have a Bengal cat. (For those of you who know, that is self-explanatory. For those of you who don't, they are a half-wild beast.) We cannot administer her flea medication ourselves. (Don't ask.) We have to take her into our vet so the techs. can do it. This 3 month medication which the fleas are not yet immune to has saved us so much time, expense, and trouble. We highly recommend it.

I have 3 cats...
VERIFIED PURCHASER

I used Frontline for years, but it lost it effectiveness. Bravecto is more expensive, but only needs to be applied every 3 months. I works great, but I find it hard to get the tube opened, that is the only reason I did not rate it 5 stars on "Ease of Use".
