Is Salmon Okay for Dogs to Eat?
Answer

While salmon can be a delicious and nutritious treat for your furry friend, there are a few things to consider to ensure their safety. Cooked salmon is perfectly fine for most dogs in moderation, and it provides them with healthy omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and other essential nutrients. However, raw salmon can harbor parasites that could make your dog sick. It's also important to avoid cooked salmon seasoned with onions, garlic, or other ingredients that can be harmful to dogs. Before feeding salmon to your pup, ensure that any bones are removed to prevent choking hazards or digestive issues. If you're unsure whether salmon is a good fit for your dog, it's always best to consult your veterinarian. They can advise you on the appropriate amount to feed based on your dog's breed, size, and overall health. While answering a question on Quora, Jay Priest suggests that feeding your dog salmon daily is acceptable, provided you can afford it. However, caution is advised as salmon is rich, and excessive consumption may lead to vomiting. Nevertheless, salmon remains highly desired by dogs. To prepare, boil raw salmon without the guts for a few minutes. It's crucial to cool it down properly to prevent mouth burns, which can be severe.Reference: https://www.quora.com/How-often-can-a-dog-eat-salmon/answer/Jay-Priest?ch=10&oid=191510431&share=b2ce6f4f&srid=3RNLyz&target_type=answer

Is Taste of the Wild a Good Dog Food Brand?
Answer

Taste of the Wild is a popular dog food brand that offers high-quality, grain-free options. While it has some merits, there are mixed reviews to consider. Taste of the Wild typically incorporates real meat as a primary ingredient, which is a positive aspect of the brand. Additionally, certain varieties are formulated for dogs with allergies and feature limited-ingredient diets. They have grain-free formulas that may suit dogs with grain sensitivities. However, some reviewers expressed concerns about the carbohydrate content in certain Taste of the Wild recipes. These carbs might come from sources like potatoes or peas, and while not inherently bad, some prefer a higher protein content. Additionally, the brand has faced some past recalls, so it's important to research specific formulas before choosing. Before deciding, it's wise to compare Taste of the Wild with other brands by examining ingredients and reviews. Consulting your veterinarian can also be helpful, as they can recommend the best food based on your dog's individual needs.

Is Grain-Free Dog Food Good for Dogs?
Answer

Grain-free dog food has become a trend, but the question remains: is it better for your canine companion? There's no simple yes or no answer. While grains like corn or wheat might not be a primary source of nutrition for dogs, they can provide carbohydrates for energy. The focus should be on overall quality ingredients. Look for grain-free formulas high in real meat and avoid relying heavily on legumes or potatoes as substitutes. Some dogs have grain allergies, and grain-free food can be a good option in those cases. However, there's been some recent debate about the potential link between grain-free diets and heart problems in dogs. If you're considering grain-free food, consult your veterinarian. They can advise you based on your dog's health and recommend a grain-free option if it's truly necessary. Remember, a balanced diet with high-quality ingredients, regardless of grain content, is key to keeping your dog happy and healthy. Veterinarian Leigh Burkett from Florida says grain-free dog food might be helpful in some cases. For instance, vets may suggest a grain-free diet as a test to see if your dog has food allergies and to observe any improvement. Even though grain-free food doesn't contain grains, they still have carbs from other ingredients like potatoes or peas. This means grain-free food isn't completely carb-free, and sometimes, it can even contain more carbs than regular dog food.Reference: https://www.petmd.com/dog/centers/nutrition/evr_dg_why-grain-free-dog-food-may-not-be-the-best-choice

What Is the Easiest Protein for Dogs to Digest?
Answer

When it comes to digestion, not all proteins are created equal for our canine companions. Generally, lean animal proteins are easier on their tummies. Chicken, turkey, and fish are top contenders because they're packed with essential nutrients but are broken down easily by the digestive system. These gentler proteins meet your dog's needs without putting extra strain on its gut. Even eggs, while not a complete meal, are highly digestible at nearly 100%. However, every dog is an individual. Some might have sensitivities to even these common proteins. If your pup suffers from digestive woes, talk to your veterinarian. They can help identify any allergies and recommend a protein source that your furry friend can handle. Michael Hoover, a vet at the University of Missouri-Columbia, says research suggests focusing on food quality over labels like "high protein" or "grain-free." He recommends prioritizing high-quality protein sources over the overall protein content. He says that dog foods high in protein content don't necessarily mean better quality. Low-quality food with 26% protein might have less usable protein for your dog than high-quality food with just 13%. For instance, protein derived from chicken meat is more beneficial than protein from beaks, feathers, or feet. Unless your dog is exceptionally active, such as for hunting, sledding, or rigorous training, they typically do not require high-protein foods.Reference: https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-best-high-protein-dog-food-brands-for-pitbulls/answer/Michael-Hoover-2?ch=10&oid=42557378&share=a6b94f73&srid=3RNLyz&target_type=answer

Is No Corn, No Wheat, No Soy Good for Dogs?
Answer

"No corn, no wheat, no soy" dog food isn't inherently good or bad for all dogs. While these ingredients are often fillers in cheaper food, and some dogs might be allergic, they aren't necessarily harmful. The key is food quality. High-quality dog food, even with these ingredients, can be nutritious. However, if your dog has itchy skin, vomiting, or diarrhea, these ingredients could be culprits. Talk to your vet about a possible food allergy and try a "no corn, no wheat, no soy" food for a test period. Remember, even these alternative foods can have carbs from other sources like potatoes or peas. The most important factor is choosing a well-balanced, high-quality diet that meets your dog's needs.

My dogs love it
VERIFIED PURCHASER

I have a pair or pitsky pups that are relatively picky eaters (unless itโ€™s table food). They have always liked Taste of the Wild, but they specifically love the Pacific Stream flavor. Their coats are also very soft and shiny and their bowel movements have been solid and healthy since.

S
Just ordered my first bag

in early May 2012, then the recall. Before I had been feeding Canidae, then it was voluntarily recalled. After months/years/many late nights "researching" the "best" dog foods, I have given back the control to us. No more commercial pet food. My precious pups are vegetarian, homemade food lovers and wouldn't have it any other way. I know what's in what I make. Hooray! I have broken free from the commercial dog food world! Goodbye society telling me what I "HAVE" to feed my pups!

Great Stuff

I've fed my two Japanese Chins this since moving them from puppy food. They absolutely love it. Our rat terrier loves it too and all of them are healthy, shiny energetic and perfect weight. Our cat eats the cat brand and if we get him something different he'll ignore it and eat the dog version instead.

Healthy grain free for healthy dogs

Our two Akitas love both flavors and our vet always comments on their beautiful coats and healthy skin! This grain free was first brought to our attention by the two different championship breeders of our male & female. They use this in both of their kennels.

D
working well for us!

I recently acquired a 3 year old German Shepherd who was very itchy all the time, so I decided to try a grain-free food. Within 3 days, his itching decreased dramatically, and his stools also firmed up (they were quite squishy sometimes!) Also, he's a picky eater, and he eats this food with little coaxing. He is on his second bag, and I am pleased with the results. Also, my locally-owned pet store did not carry a bag larger than 15 pounds. With a large breed dog, I'm glad to find a 30# bag available!

clean bowl

My dogs ate this well, small enough for our smaller fussy eater too. They cleaned up their bowls. I dont see the scratching I saw with a cheaper brand. This is our second bag and I think we'll stick with this brand

Fantastic

I bought the salmon flavored, and it smells like fresh fish! I can tell that my two dogs coats are so shiny and healthy! The price is fantastic compared to pet stores and my dogs love to eat it. I always had a problem getting them to eat with cheaper food, and now I found something that they love and I can tell they are healthy with.

Great quality grain-free food at a reasonable price

I started feeding my dogs Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream dog food about 2 years ago. They all love it and it makes their coats super soft and smooth. I have 5 dogs and a cat...the cat eats Taste of the Wild cat food. Both types are for all life stages so you can feed it to puppies too, as I did with my pug. I couldn't be happier with this food. My dogs are healthier because of it and the price can't be beat when it comes to grain free foods.
