A Dog's Guide to Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Ultamino Dry Dog Food

If a dog could speak human, we might hear something about their digestive care. Good thing that there are dog food brands that prioritize balanced nutrition, digestive healthcare, and dietary issues, specifically this Royal Canin Veterinary Diet, that maintains healthy digestion for those who have severe skin sensitivities.

Since 1968, Royal Canin prioritizes health nutrition, quality, and safety in their dog chow products to ensure the highest standard of quality. Royal Canin's veterinarians, pet nutritionists, breeders, and dog professionals formulated the precise diet that guaranteed the dog's specific nutritional requirements.

Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Ultamino Dry Dog Food is the ultimate dog chow that makes me normal again - no itchiness, ouchies, and stomach upsets, your dog would ruff.

How does Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Ultamino Dry Dog Food work in adult dogs?

Dogs with food sensitivities require a special diet that reduces allergic skin reactions from common proteins found in dog foods and supports healthy digestion. This recipe has fragmented proteins to amino acid levels that pass undetected through a dog's immune system and the fiber blend allows it to be easily absorbed in the digestive tract.

Due to Hill's pioneering scientific research, this dog foods' hydrolyzed protein source contains exclusively free amino acids very low molecular weight oligopeptides that support dermatological and gastrointestinal health in dogs with food sensitivities. The recipe has a synergistic antioxidant complex that supports a dog's cellular health.

Ultimately, Ultamino's B vitamins and amino acids restore the natural skin barrier in dogs that have severe skin sensitivities, omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA create healthy skin and hair, and an exclusive blend of fibers support healthy digestion in dogs that are prone to digestive upsets.

Why should your dog eat Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Ultamino Dry Dog Food?

Your veterinarian recommended Royal Canin Ultamino for a reason. Whether on a short-term elimination diet to test for food sensitivities or long-term nutrition for skin issues, Royal Canins's long-time clinical research formulated this recipe for dogs with severe skin sensitivities.

Extensive DNA analysis is a major component of Royal Canin's quality standard process. Negative gastrointestinal and dermatological reactions have an unpleasant impact on a dog's quality of life.

This Royal Canin Veterinary Diet product lists its specific ingredients. Below are the nutritional values in crude protein, fat, and fiber:

Crude Fat (14.5%) is the term for fat-soluble materials such as lipid content in a dog's food when ingested. The diet is restricted in fat.

Crude Fiber (4.2%) is a measure of indigestible cellulose, pentosans, lignin, and other components of this type of chemical fibers. It has little food value but provides major intestinal tract peristalsis, a wave-like muscle contraction to relax the stomach muscles.

What is the difference between Royal Canin Ultamino and HP?
Answer

The main difference between Ultamino and HP lies in the source of the protein used. Ultamino primarily uses hydrolyzed animal protein as the protein source, while HP uses hydrolyzed soy protein. The choice of protein source can depend on the individual dog's specific dietary needs and any known allergies or sensitivities. Royal Canin Ultamino is a prescription diet formulated for dogs with severe food sensitivities or allergies. It is specifically designed to be highly digestible and contains a limited number of proteins to minimize the risk of triggering an allergic reaction. The proteins used in Ultamino are broken down into tiny molecules called peptides, which are less likely to provoke an immune response in dogs with sensitive digestive systems. Ultamino may also include highly digestible carbohydrates and specialized nutrients to support digestion and overall health. Royal Canin HP (Hypoallergenic) is another prescription diet intended for dogs with food sensitivities or allergies. Like Ultamino, HP is formulated with a limited number of ingredients to minimize the risk of triggering an allergic reaction. It uses hydrolyzed soy protein, where the protein is broken down into small, easily digestible molecules to reduce the chances of an immune response. HP is also formulated to support skin and coat health, as these are often affected by food allergies or sensitivities. Additionally, it may contain specific nutrients to support digestive function and the overall well-being of the dog.

How long can a dog eat hydrolyzed protein?
Answer

The duration for which a dog can eat a hydrolyzed protein diet depends on the specific health condition being addressed and the recommendation of a veterinarian. In cases of food allergies or sensitivities, a hydrolyzed protein diet is typically used as an elimination diet trial. The purpose of an elimination diet trial is to identify and manage food allergies or sensitivities by feeding the dog a diet with a protein source that has been broken down into small, easily digestible molecules. This minimizes the likelihood of triggering an immune response. During the elimination diet trial, the dog is fed only the hydrolyzed protein diet and is not given any other foods or treats. The elimination diet trial usually lasts for a specific duration recommended by the veterinarian, typically between 8 and 12 weeks. This period allows the dog's system to stabilize and for any symptoms or allergic reactions to subside. If there is an improvement in the dog's condition during this period, it indicates that the dog may have been reacting to certain proteins or ingredients in their previous diet. After the elimination diet trial, the veterinarian may recommend a long-term management plan based on the dog's specific needs. In some cases, the dog may continue to eat the hydrolyzed protein diet as their regular diet indefinitely to avoid triggering allergic reactions.

What are the side effects of hydrolyzed protein?
Answer

In some cases, dogs may experience mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, or flatulence when transitioning to a hydrolyzed protein diet. These symptoms are usually temporary and may resolve as the dog's digestive system adjusts to the new diet. Gradually transitioning to the new diet by mixing it with the previous food can help minimize digestive upset. Hydrolyzed protein diets can have a different taste and smell compared to regular dog food. Some dogs may be initially hesitant to eat the new diet due to its altered flavor or texture. Encouraging and gradually introducing the new diet, or using techniques such as warming the food or adding a small amount of low-sodium broth, may help improve palatability. Hydrolyzed protein diets are carefully formulated to meet the nutritional needs of dogs, but it's important to ensure that the diet is balanced and complete for long-term use. Regular monitoring and periodic check-ups with a veterinarian can help assess the dog's overall health and nutritional status while on a specialized diet.

Do dogs gain weight on hydrolyzed protein food?
Answer

Hydrolyzed protein diets are not typically associated with weight gain in dogs. These diets are usually formulated to be lower in fat and calories compared to regular dog food, as their primary purpose is to address food allergies or sensitivities. They are designed to provide complete and balanced nutrition while minimizing the risk of triggering an immune response. However, weight management is a complex issue and can depend on various factors such as the dog's metabolism, activity level, overall health, and portion control. While hydrolyzed protein diets themselves are not intended to promote weight gain, if a dog consumes excessive amounts of food or calories from any source, including a hydrolyzed protein diet, it can lead to weight gain.

Can my dog be allergic to hydrolyzed protein food?
Answer

While it is rare, it is possible for a dog to develop an allergic reaction or intolerance to hydrolyzed protein food. Hydrolyzed protein diets are specifically formulated to minimize the risk of triggering an immune response in dogs with food allergies or sensitivities. The proteins in these diets are broken down into small molecules (peptides) to reduce their allergenic potential. However, no diet can guarantee that it will be completely free of allergens for every individual dog. In rare cases, a dog may still have an adverse reaction to certain components of a hydrolyzed protein diet. If your dog exhibits symptoms such as gastrointestinal upset, skin irritations, itching, or any other signs of an allergic reaction after starting a hydrolyzed protein diet, consult with a veterinarian for further evaluation, as alternative dietary options may need to be explored.

The option for dogs with allergies
VERIFIED PURCHASER

This is a very special prescription diet. Of course there are other brands of hydrolyzed food, but if you read the materials about the product, you'll see that this is a league of its own... basically getting the protein down to a single molecule. This is the only food that works for Lily, and if you've been struggling it may be the only food that works for your pal. The thing is you really have to order a lot at once because it goes out of stock frequently. I'll have about 6 months of it at a time. If have another food that works, it may be more reliably in stock. I also supplement with carrot and sweet potato. Thankfully this is not diarrhea or outbreaks for Lily, but supplementing with veggies she is not allergic to really made it better. She maybe needs more fiber.
