N
Expensive, but Worth Every Penny
VERIFIED PURCHASER

If you've had to see your pet endure the side effects of food allergies, you know how important it is to find a food that doesn't exacerbate the symptoms. Luckily, my vet recommended hydrolyzed protein food by royal canin's veterinary diet. Later, we switched to the small breed formulation as there are some differences between this and the formulation for larger breeds (it's on the S/O index and is proven to promote a "urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals" for example). As my dog suffers from occasional kidney stones, this was a no brainer. Also, there's nothing about this food that makes it less advantageous for a dog of any size to eat--the kibble is just smaller. At 45 pounds my dog is categorized as a medium sized pooch, but she actually prefers the smaller kibble. Lastly, the flavor is definitely not identical and even has a slightly different smell, both of which my dog prefers. This is definitely among the more expensive choices, but any hydrolyzed protein dog food is more expensive and if your dog suffers from allergies caused by the proteins in their food, this food is definitely the way to go and will not only provide a balanced diet, but dramatically reduce the awful allergic symptoms as well. Worth every penny.
