Answer

Hill's WD Canned Dog food is part of the Hill's Veterinary Diet range. These diets are designed to provide nutritional support for a variety of medical issues. WD means it offers nutritional support for digestive problems, glucose fluctuations, and weight management for this product.

What Is Hills WD Used For?
Answer

Hill's WD is used for a multitude of medical conditions. However, it primarily helps dogs lose weight. More than half of the pet population is overweight, and obesity in dogs can cause serious medical problems. Many of these conditions respond positively to weight loss, and Hill's WD helps them get back down to a healthy weight.

How Many Calories Are In WD Dog Food?
Answer

Hill's Prescription Diet W D Multi-Benefit Digestive/Weight Management canned dog food contains 255 kcal per cup of wet dog food. This works out to 3100 kcal per kilogram of dog food.

What Is the Difference Between ID and WD Dog Food?
Answer

Hill's I/D is a prescription dog food. It helps with treatment protocols for dogs who have high amounts of fat in their blood, have trouble making digestive enzymes to digest their food, and for those who cannot digest protein. Hill's W/D, on the other hand, helps dogs who need to lose fat and maintain lean, healthy body weight.

What Is the Best Food for Dogs With Diabetes?
Answer

Diabetes is a complicated disease as it affects many other parts of your dog's internal systems. For example, diabetes can cause weight loss and weight gain, urinary issues, deterioration of muscle mass, and damage to a healthy immune system. Thus, the best food for a dog with diabetes is one their vet prescribes. However, many vets often prescribe Hillโ€™s Wโ€™D to help their patients maintain lean muscle and healthy weight as part of their treatment.

Can a Diabetic Dog Eat Scrambled Eggs?
Answer

Yes, diabetic dogs can eat scrambled eggs. However, egg yolks are pretty calorie-dense and contain a high level of fat. Additionally, scrambled eggs have oil and grease. Speak to your vet before you give your dog scrambled eggs to ensure it isn't counterproductive to their treatment protocol.

Can You Treat a Diabetic Dog Without Insulin?
Answer

There are two types of diabetes. The most common form of this disease is Type 2, which doesn't require insulin for treatment. However, Type 1 diabetes requires insulin for the patient to survive. Thus, while it is possible to treat a diabetic dog without insulin, it depends on the type of diabetes the dog has as well.

Do You Need a Prescription for Hill's Prescription Dog Food?
Answer

Yes, you must have a veterinarian prescription for ordering Hillโ€™s prescription foods. But you must not worry if you do not have one, as the PetCareRX team will contact your veterinarian and help you out with it. Generally, the pet stores and veterinarians do not sell these prescription diets without a valid veterinarian prescription as it could look promotional and biased for the manufacturers. Also, these prescribed diets have some medicinal values associated with them, and hence involving a veterinarian is a good option. Misuse and the wrong quantity of diets can also worsen the health conditions of your pet.

Sometimes we can find it at Tractor Supply in Cullman County Alabama and Sometimes we find it at T Supply in Blount County AL. The food is great for SMOKEY but sometimes it is a hassle to purchase it locally.

This new case of w/d veg & chicken is very watery

This new case of w/d is very watery and doesn't have as many chunks of meat as it has in the past. More like chicken soup. I'm glad I'm not feeding only this product to my dog.

Excellent Nutrition but expensive

Our 10 year old Labrador eats both the dry and wet version of this food. He has Diabetes, and Pancreatitis. When he is well he will eats this completely, but when he is not feeling well we have to use other food, as this is quite bland. It is very expensive, costing us over $100 a month for one dog, just for the canned food! If you add the dry food it is over $300 per month for 1 dog. One question we have is why these cans don't have ring pulls to open them, you need to use a can opener. All the other Hills Science Diet cans have the ring pull!

Dog has mixed feelings

My canine son was recently diagnosed with diabetes and prescribed Hill's w/d. He's eaten Hill's all of his 13 years so I thought he would enjoy the chicken stew. He seems to have mixed feelings about it, though, and walks away some times after sniffing it. He'll return shortly to eat, but he always leaves the peas and carrots in the bowl. I'm going to try the non-stew version next time and hope it suits him better.

Shame on you!

You have changed the contents of the w/d dog food cans. Now I have to poor off about 1/4 of the can of liquid before finding product. Shame on you!!! As if this wasn't expensive enough for a diabetic dog, now we don't even get a full can of product any more. Shame!!!! Rip off!!!!!

Hate the changed food

I would have given this food 5 stars based on the first case I got from the vet. I bought another case and the food looks totally different not to mention its at least 1/3 liquid. This is not gravy it's colored water. My dog still eats it but I feel the quality as well as the quantity are poor now. I will try and find a different food for my dog. I do not feel it's worth the money to pay for a partial can of food. Why on earth would you change a product that was good to begin with.

We can only buy from the vet which increases the cost because they take their cut and being a senior it puts a strain on our budget. Corn is not a costly ingredient so being able to buy direct should save but since it is by prescription only that won't happen
