This food has helped settle and regulate my dogโs tummy and digestion. He seems a lot more happy now that heโs on this food.

Our Cairn is 13.5 and was diagnosed with chronic Pancreatitis by Ultrasound after we did full blood panel. Our Vet suggested this food - and his episodes of throwing up have completely stopped and he seems to feel better as well. I feed him the canned version in the p.m. the dry food in the a.m. I'm very happy to see my pooch feel better. Great product!
by My Cairn and me on 04/19/2021
My golden had stomach problems from the start, had him on so many different foods and different proteins. This is the only product that worked for our dog. The price is very high and there is no reward program which is unfortunate but when you want a healthy dog, you have to do what's best.

My almost 14 year old bichon has been a struggling with eating since her diabetes diagnosis! She had a bad case of pancreatitis and while hospitalized they started her on thei product! In the past 7 months we have struggled to find something that she would eat for more than 2 days! But since giving her this she is always ready to eat! We actually had to move the bag of food to the garage because she tries to get into it during the day!! Thank you!!!

Our Schnauzer Sophie is 14 years young and has done so well on Digestive Care i/d low fat. So happy and active. Thank you for an excellent product.
by Bethlyn on 09/02/2018
My lab Nemo had a bout of pancreatitis. He was put on the ID low fat kibble and canned low fat chicken stew. He loves both !!! In this case, food is medicine, as his lab values that were 3 x normal came back to normal on diet alone. Amazing!!! He will remain on this diet and I am so happy that he loves eating something that has proven to be so beneficial.

About 3 years ago I got a 9 month old Boston Terrier puppy from my vet. He gave me the Science Diet food they had been feeding her since she came under his care. Everything was fine until she was about a year old. All of a sudden she was vomiting constantly and had severe diahrrhea. It was so bad she lost 3 pounds and just couldn't even keep white rice down. I was planning on training her as a service dog but I was afraid she was not going to live. I rushed her to the vets and he did blood work, xrays, and other tests. He didn't find any blockages but he did say he'd never seen a dog with so much intestinal inflammation before. He suggested I try the Science Diet I/d because that's what he fed his Boston Terrier. I started her slowly and within a week her stools were improving and the vomiting had stopped. Within 2 weeks everything was fine and she started putting on weight. I know that Science Diet isn't the most popular dog food on the market these days. Everyone is into raw, no thank you and all natural and so on. But I'm convinced that Science Diet saved her life and I don't care how much it costs, she will always be on it. When you have a service dog, they need to be in tip-top shape at all times. I will spend whatever I need to, to make sure she is healthy and happy because she's my constant companion and I rely on her 24/7.

My dog, Jake, loves the food.Just wish the price wasnt so high.
by jakester005 on 07/03/2017
We have always been pleased with the Hills Prescription product line, but we are especially happy with the Lowfat i/d dry dog food. The ginger really helped calm my dog's upset stomach. This food has also kept my dog's urinary crystals at bay. I wish their was a tad bit more potassium citrate though. The only down side is that some bags seem to have less ginger than other bags. The ginger makes this dog food ideal for tummy troubles.
by Barb3 on 06/13/2017
My dog Jasper has a very sensitive digestive system. Before I began giving him this food, I bought higher quality over the counter food. He would often start gagging and was in distress. This problem has gone away since he has been on this food. He loves the taste. I feed him little portions through out the day. He was just into see the vet and he is in perfect health. I will not feed him anything else.
by vrodbikerchick on 01/14/2017
One of my dogs needed a low fat diet. One of the vets advised hill's is the best. So I purchased wet and dry foods and she loved it. And my other dogs love it also. Thank you.
by Lijajelo on 07/23/2016
I bought this food for both my dogs after an intestinal issue. They love it and are doing so well I just kept them on it.
by CLLR on 06/30/2016
My dog likes the taste and thinks of the dry food more of a treat than as a food.
by mesauve on 06/29/2016
We had to change our pet's food when we got sick for health reasons. He loved his new diet and has recently lost a few pounds giving him more energy. I love this food and will never give him anything else. Best decision we ever made was changing his food. Thank you Hills!!

My dog has had vomiting issues since we got her and we switched to Rx diet and she is doing great on it! Actually, once my kittens food is almost empty we plan on switching him to hills kitten diet and then to ideal balance when he is an adult

My only thing that annoys me is I was getting coupons to help towards the dry and after six I can no longer access this coupon...i think this is unfair..I live off a very restricted income and seven dollors may not seem much but every little bit helps.
by wolfie1261 on 09/23/2015
my Jack Russell was put on this after having a problem with his pancreas. It is a long term food for him and has been great for him. He also likes the taste of it.
by catvitale on 09/22/2015
While my dog is doing very well on this and will remain on it for life I am very unhappy with being unable to consistently get coupons to help with the cost. Several times have been unable to print and as only one a day can be printed I am shut out. i realize there are dishonest people out there but they are costing me when I buy the now big bag (thank you for larger size for my 80 pound dog) and the canned food. If I were to recommend this excellent food to someone I would caution them that coupons aren't always in the picture. Would welcome suggestions on this coupon issue.
by Airedale2 on 09/20/2015
Our pup was having digestive issues - mainly vomiting. Once we made the switch, with the vet's advice, she's been great on the I/D low fat dry food. She used to be a very picky eater - but now she eats the dry food readily.
by Kristine777 on 09/16/2015
my schnauzer was prescribed the I/d low fat dry food & he loves it! It's extremely costly though & overpriced & I wish more coupons were offered but it's medically necessary & like I said my schnauzer loves it!

WE HAVE TRIED SEVERAL PRODUCTS FOR OUR DOGS DIGESTIONAL ISSUES, BOTH OVER THE COUNTER AND PRESCRIPTION, AND HILL SCIENCE IS BY FAR THE BEST PRODUCT WE HAVE USED. BOTH OF OUR DOGS HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH DIARRHEA/CONSTIPATION AND OCCASIONAL VOMITING, THESE PROBLEMS ARE VIRTUALLY GONE ON THE ID KIBBLE AND WET. THESE PRODUCTS WERE RECOMENDED BY OUR VET, SO WE FELT CONFIDENT INITIALLY TRYING THEM.
by Lori29 on 09/05/2015
My dog has transitioned with this food very easily. I would recommend this food. It must be tasty! My dog is 13 and just scoffs this food down.
by tucker48 on 08/09/2015
This product saved my dogs life. He has protein losing enteropathy and couldnt eat anything at all. With some good medical care and this food he is back to his old self. He loves the taste of it too. We also use c/d for my pug who has kidney issues, both are terrific products.

As a veterinary technician, friends, family, and clients come to us for advice and trust our opinions. When Lady, my sisters 11yr old pit bull mix) was having digestive issues we recommended to try Hills I/d. Now almost two years later Lady is doing great. We attribute her happiness and good health to her diet. This stuff is amazing!
by pitbulltherapydog on 05/19/2015
My dog has been on this food for almost a year now. It seems to be the only food that his sensitive stomach can tolerate, as it seems that food with higher levels of fat are too much for his system. My only wish is that it came in a larger kibble size for large-breed dogs.
by eyes on 04/29/2015
Last August, we had some serious health issues with our dog. The problem was diagnosed and our vet recommended (dry) Hill's ID Low fat GI Restore for our Sheltie. He said it was 100% guaranteed or our money back! She loves it!!! While she was taking some meds, I purchased the soft, canned version to hide the pills in. When she hears the can opener, she comes running! Thank you for running coupons occasionally and for the rebate check I just received today! She loves this food and I love the fact it has helped her. Thank you! Sincerely, A Sheltie owner
by Regina on 04/20/2015
I'm so glad my vet put my service dog on this food. It has made such a huge difference in his ability to eat without gastrointestinal upset. The only downside is that it is very expensive, but if it enables him to eat well enough to continue to work, then it's worth its weight in gold.
by sduser on 01/30/2015
Turned my little corgi's runny stools firm again. At eight years old, he's on it for life according to my vet. Couldn't agree more. Healthy dog happy me.
by TXCorgi on 01/04/2015
My dog was attacked and had to go through 2 surgeries to survive. Her stomach and intestines were affected. She has always had a sensitive stomach so when she was having problems after surgery, the hospital gave us a couple cans of your product...then she went on to the dry food which she is still on. Her stomach is doing a lot better and she actually will eat this food...she is a small 8 pound picky eater. So i would recommend this food.
by lovesdogs53 on 11/03/2014
I was a little concerned that since it was low fat he'd hesitate and be picky, but that is not the case. He eats it right up and sometimes wants more!
by kellyanne67 on 10/25/2014
this product along with a great vet saved my dogs live...on a no/low fat diet it's ALL a dog owner could ask for....THANKS HILL"s ......

My Boxer developed digestion issues with difficutly eating and weight loss and my vet recomended switching to Prescription Diet ID-Low fat dry food. What a difference. He regained his weight and has been able to improve directly related to his diet. Thank you!
by gracia58 on 09/26/2014
This is a great product, my only complaint is the price. Since my dog has a problem digesting proteins properly, it would be nice is there were additional products available at a more affordable price.
by Max0704 on 09/23/2014
But the price is really high. but if it makes my pet healthy i will continue to buy it.
by Poopers on 09/19/2014
Thus far this food is the only one we have found that does not upset their stomachs or leave them with a runny stool. Aside from the cost (coupons make a small dent only) it is worth what you are paying for.
by wfroberts1958 on 09/17/2014
This product has done wonders for my dogs stomach, coat, and overall health! He no longer has runny stools.
by marmun2 on 09/16/2014
I'm thankful you make this product for my dog. My only wish is that you provided coupons for those of us that have a pet on prescription food.
by Terri13 on 09/14/2014
My jack Russell dachshund mix has always had diet issues. After years, her vet put her on I/d low fat. It has completely changed her digestive system. She eats regularly and FINALLY has regular bowel movements. I spent 2 years worried about her diarrhea and constipation until our vet gave her this prescription. As it turns out, my little one doesn't digest fat properly. I could not be happier.
by meghemric on 09/03/2014
The veterinarian prescribed this product due to the dogs health condition. I wish you would sell the food in larger sizes such as a 35 LB package.
by billabong on 08/30/2014
Since starting Hill's Low Fat ID recommended by my vet, the tummy problems that my puppy mill rescue dog has had for over three years have cleared up. The majority of the time all is well and all functions are normal. Hooray!! It was a long process, but both the dry and wet food in the Hill's ID Low Fat GI Restore or the regular ID GI Restore have brought success. She loves the food and we even use the dry product pieces for treats so we do not upset the balance we have achieved. Thank you to Hills for this prescription product. We highly recommend it when your vet prescribes it for your dog's condition. We are very satisfied with the results it brought to our adorable female dog.
by sdrgirl on 07/20/2014
This product seems to do well to not upset my dog's stomach. He eats it with minimal prompts. My only complaint is that it is very costly and there is no real way to save as they rarely offer specials or coupons.
by HanksMom on 07/19/2014
Our Dog Elvis has had irritable stomach since he was young and I only wish we could have found it sooner , Now at 13 he eats that food like it was the last meal loves it , We mix half wet and half dry . We have never been so happy with his digestive system, Thank you
by Joy2044 on 07/09/2014
I use both the dry and wet i/d low fat dog food, has helped my dog with his problems. He really also likes the food i mix them together for him.
by gili on 07/03/2014
We have a beautiful two year old yellow Lab and she is very fit. We did learn when she was one that she has difficulty processing and digesting fat. After some great help from our Vet, we found a mix of Hill's prescription Low Fat combined with Hill's canned chicken for adult dogs is a great mixture for her that she really enjoys, keeps her healthy and her system easily handles. Not cheap, so we use coupons to help the price whenever we can. I wish they would go back to making the larger bags, since we will be feeding her this for the rest of her life.
by bsambo59 on 06/24/2014
My dog was having some stomach problems and was vomiting every few days. He has been like this off and on since he was a puppy. Once he started on this food, the problems disappeared. And he really loves the taste. The downside is that he is a large dog (75 lbs) and a bag only lasts about 3 weeks. It is getting quite expensive to feed him but he is worth it - and I can tell that he's feeling much better,
by RunnerJen on 06/23/2014
My dog has not had any GI issues since switching to the i/d low fat. He's a senior pet so the low fat is easy to digest and does not put any unnecessary stress on his pancreas. He does poo a bit more now, but he's healthy and loves the food! He gets the canned i/d low fat as well.
by Sd123 on 06/21/2014
Critically ill mid March 2014; mini poodle age 12.5, did not like the canned version but loves the dry. I like the ingredients in the canned better, but he prefers this and eats it all He has made a wonderful recovery and still loves the dry. I was not pleased with the recent price increase as I think the food is pricey enough. Many with sick and/or large dogs probably cannot afford it
by bhk1206 on 06/16/2014
My dog had stomach issues that kept us in and out of the vet for over a week. Hill's Prescription Diet i/d was recommended and was instrumental in her healing process. Although we find this product to be a bit pricey, we will continue to use this product to help maintain her good health.
by Bandit10 on 06/08/2014
Pedro, my chihuahua was prescribed Hills I/D low fat Restore over a month ago. For the first time in eight years he has cleaned his food bowl at every feeding. He hasn't gained any weight, looks healthier and certainly has more energy.
by pris1 on 06/06/2014
When my dog had emergency surgery and we had to change her diet we thought she would refuse to eat. Luckily the i/d low fat has not caused her to lose her appetite or turn away. If anything, she wants to eat more than she did before. It has been wonderful for our pet and our family.
by RichB29 on 06/04/2014
This product has met what it is designed to do .... settle our pets digestive system.
by lt170vet on 05/16/2014
I used canned ID for almost a year and then switched to the kibble. I am convinced it saved my dog's life; she is now 14.
by Carol6000 on 05/15/2014
We were a little worried that our King Charles spaniel would reject "prescription" food, but he loves his I/D. His gastrointestinal issues are under control and he is a very happy puppy - even though he's 5 years old. A little more money, but worth every penny.
by raktre on 05/13/2014
Our Australian Shephard is 10 years old now and has put on a few extra pounds. She has also been having frequent gas attacks that make her somewhat less of an adorable companion in the house. Our Vet suggested that we try this new low-fat i/d food, perhaps mix it with the normal i/d food, to see if it might alleviate her symptoms. First, she absolutely loves the taste of the new low-fat i/d food. Her enthusiasm at feeding time has skyrocketed from when we only fed her the normal i/d food. Secondly, and more important to us, it appears that her gas attacks have been reduced by 95%. Good for us. Her weight is at least holding, if not going down ever so slightly. We highly recommend it to anyone whose canine has the same symptoms as our canine. We can't give it a total recommendation, simply because it is so pricey. If we can get some discount coupons, that would help immensely.
by BabsDad on 05/09/2014
My Dogs, have skin issues and our Vet recommends we use this food; It has been working well for them. I wish it were more afordable especially with two Dogs on it. I also wish they sold it in the larger bag, I have to buy two bags at a time because they run out so quickly. And since I am wishing away, I would like larger discounts for the RX brand and to be able to print them more often. Thank you, the Manuel Family.
by 2Brats on 05/03/2014
Our dog was having trouble with her stomach. She was vomiting sporadically over a three week period. We took her to the vet and we figured out that she was getting in to horse apples. Even after she stopped eating those, she still had an upset stomach. The vet recommended the Prescription Diet to help calm things down and get her back on track. After using the new food, our dog improved right away and was able to keep the food down. After a couple weeks she was back to her old self. Definitely recommend this product!
by GAld on 04/26/2014
My dog has been eating this food for over a year and I have noticed a major improvement in my dog digestive health. She also loves the taste.
by Stormy8726 on 04/23/2014
This food has made my dogs feel better and not have an upset stomach like they used to. They liked the taste in the beginning, but they have grown tired of it after 2 years. But I would not change it for another product that did not work as well as this did.
by Racy on 04/14/2014
My dog has chronic digestive problems that sky rocketed in acute episodes a couple months ago. She became unable to tolerate anything but chicken and rice. Knowing her health issues I used the site to help me find what was best after talking with the vet. I only have 2 complaints which are accessibility to obtain since my vet doesn't stock like a store does and the price. There is nothing in the ingredients that shows a high priced ingredient. Also coupons are greatly appreciated but if you don't have printing capability they can't be used. Would like to see smart phone access to coupons and a rethinking of the cost.
by suzyq1960 on 04/12/2014
Good consistency, always fresh. Definitely does it's intended job well. Just needs a variety of flavors.
by rtcarty on 04/10/2014
Our dog was having digestion problems before Hill's Prescription Diet was prescribed. She is 9 years old and since she started her new food she now prances when it comes to feeding time. She acts like she has a new lease on life. We have not had any problems since we switched. We are very happy we found this product. Thank you!

by Mike45 on 03/17/2014
I'm so glad this company has provided a food that my dog can tolerate with all his health issues. He enjoys the flavor, as I know for sure because he wouldn't eat it and since he has been put on this it seems to be helping very much.

Since our dog was put on "Hills" i/d Low Fat GI Restore (wet and dry) - #1 she loves the food. #2 she seems to be thriving on it.! #3 We are so happy that our vet, and us, chose this route of action.! Thanks to "Hills" we no longer have to worry, and our pet can look forward to a long and happy life.! Thank-You. Clifford Higgins
by clifford65 on 03/09/2014
We had to switch foods abruptly due to a severe medical condition and were warned that our dog may not enjoy it initially. Boy were they wrong! Our dog took to it immediately and loves the taste! Yes, it is costly, but with the Hill's coupons it makes it more affordable.
by mmarks28 on 02/25/2014
We had two scary bouts of digestive problems with our Schnoodles. So when we were prescribed the Low Fat dry food we hoped for the best. It has worked like a charm! No problems at all since we switched. Now please make a treat that works with our food.
by Cheffanie on 02/12/2014
Very palatable and all dogs seem to love the taste. Very easy on dog's digestive system and can be fed as a permanent diet in adult dogs. I would recommend this diet for any dog with sensitive digestive system.
by Montysowner on 02/08/2014
I had two dogs on the prescription food, one on ld and one on id. The food seems to help but is very expensive
by DRay on 01/29/2014
We have a slightly overweight lab and a collie with EPI - so we are able to feed this food to both dogs and help them maintain a healthy lifestyle.
by Jennie74 on 01/29/2014
Yes this stuff is expensive. I am lucky to have a dog who eats 1/2 cup of food total a day. But to me it's worth the price to have her with me. We used the canned wet food during her severe GI distress times. and no matter how bad she was feeling she would somehow always manage to eat some. Now we have her long term on the dry food because anything else seems to cause issues. I thought at one point we were going to lose our precious pom, but she's still here with us!
by MissMuggles on 01/27/2014
We have been using I/d Gastointestinal for over 3 years and his stomach issues are very rare since then!! Now we use the I/D Low Fat version even better!!!
by Rudy76 on 12/06/2013
However, the cost of the product is prohibitive and availability only at the vet is a pain in the butt.
by Izzy on 12/05/2013
We have 2 small dogs on this due to digestive problems and we have had no issues during the past year. I am a bit concerned about the ingredients list having a lot of grains. I do mix in a bit of cooked unseasoned lean turkey breast each day or they do not care much for the taste. The price is quite high, but we don't have much choice and are happy our that our dogs tolerate this well. I would like to be able to print more coupons or maybe see a program of purchase 5 and get one free.
by lovedogs on 11/20/2013
I feed both dry and wet G/I lot-fat and it has eliminated the throwing up as was happening recently with so many other dog food products.
by Bets on 11/19/2013
My dogs digestive system is very sensitive and he does so well on your prescription food. The problem is that it is way too expensive. It cost us a fortune to keep him fed and healthy. The food shouldn't cost so much more that regular dog food.
by tbork1 on 11/16/2013
The product is great has really aided in the health of my pets digestion system. She was having a lot of issues and this diet has really helped to settle her system down.

This product has allowed me to continue to enjoy my 14 year old Australian Terrier. Yogi came from a puppy mill and has had medical issues from day one. I have 2 Jack Russells females that I found out have stomach problems. I have tried several companies Lo Fat food because 1 is very over weight. I would always be woken in the morning to them throwing up even before breakfast. After trying different foods I asked my Vet and he prescribed I/D Lo Fat Hills Prescription dry dog food, before we run a bunch of costly tests. Well it worked now I have one losing weight, and both being very active, more than ever. I love this food it gives my girls a good life without the tummy aches. Thanks Hills. You should help us people out with problem dogs and send out coupons for Prescription Diet food. It would really help since I am going to keep my girls on this for the rest of their life's .

Good for the stomach issues been using it for couple months. Just to exspensive.
by Diana on 09/22/2013
This food has solved all stomach issues that our Papillon was enduring. She was having soft stools at least once per day, but after a visit to the vet, we learned there was nothing wrong other than the need to switch foods. We were feeding her a premium name brand food, but now we will feed nothing other than this product! Our vet special orders this food for us, and it is well worth the wait. I would recommend this food to anyone whose dog has chronic or frequent soft stools.
by Papillon on 09/18/2013
Our Rottweiller had problems with diarrhea and BAD gas for at least a year. We tried many different foods at least 10. At his vet visit she gave us a sample of this dog food and we took it home and the 2nd day we could tell a difference. He enjoyed eating and he had very minimum gas and diarrhea. We give him the can version of this food a few times a week also as a treat and to give him variety. This product has been a blessing because we were running out of options. I ask that you please never change or update this food as it is working great as is.

We have two small breed dogs and they both eat this... we have used other Hills products as well... and we recommend Science Diet/Prescription Diet whenever we can... thank you
by MayRob on 09/09/2013
My dog has several medical issues and the vet recommended this food. She loves the food and it is reasonably priced but I am disappointed to find that chicken by-product meal is the 5th ingredient. This is the only food I can feed her and especially with medical conditions, would prefer to feed her a food with high-quality ingredients and not by-products. As a concerned pet-parent, I urge Hills to remove by-products from this food.
by PetParent123 on 09/06/2013
We have a 2 year old Yorkie that had problems digesting his food. The Vet suggested Science Diet ID. We have him on the dry and the wet food and he loves it. It amazing because he didn't like his other food like it does this food.

Two months ago our 15 year old miniature schnauzer had a blood test with a triglyceride reading of 3,607 (that is not a typo). The vet put her on thyroid medication and Hills I/D Gi restore and today her triglyceride reading is 176!!! Her energy and excitement are back and it is like we have a brand new dog. After reviewing the crude fat on our previous food (an excellent brand) and finding it to be 22% we can understand where the problems started.

Our 2 toy poodles have been on the original Hills Vet Formula i/d for years. It was recommended to us by our Vet when our little teacup poodle was diagnosed with chronic tummy problems. Also her sibling sister had experienced intestional problems so her Vet suggested Hills i/d. But when we heard about the newer Low Fat formula we felt it was well worth trying. We talked with the girls (poodles) vets and they mutually agreed if it's low fat then it would help, not hurt, the girls health. Particularly since both are approaching their 11th birthday. So we gradually switched them over with no problems. The poodles LOVE their Low Fat i/d and demand their meals be given on time. It's definately helped alliviate the tummy problems both have suffered in the past. Thanks Hills for making a great product!

I have used this product for about 7 months now. My dog was diagnosed with a life threatening illness caused by a reaction to one of the combination heartworm/flea tick medications that resulted in a life long health condition. The emergency hospital started her on the i/d lowfat diet. She is not overweight and my regular vet has continued her on it. She loves the food, right size for her, and is healthy again. I feel this food is a life saver as are other prescription diets that I have used for other pets in the past. Cost is very reasonable and quality control is also great.

I have recently begun a trial of the i/d low fat prescription diet food for my lhasapoo, as recommended by her vet. She will eat the i/d low fat most of the time, but she does not seem to enjoy it as much as she did the previous food she was on (also a Science Diet product). More times than not, she has to be coaxed to begin eating or to finish all of the food, and she has to be fed away from the other dogs in my house to avoid her eating their food instead. The cost of the i/d low fat is quite a bit higher than the other prescription diet foods I feed, and I am not certain that I will continue to use this food after the bag I currently have is gone. I would still recommend this as a quality food, but I would say that my dog did not like the taste and that it is much more expensive.
