I have given my 18 lb. Very picky Shih Tzu, Chihuahua, Poodle mix these rectangular chewables in the last 8 or so years. They are soft enough that she can still eat them now that she is older and missing some teeth. She is so picky she will decline most treats offered, but will eat these. They look big for a small dog but i break them in half and feed to her by hand once a month. Maybe they taste like meat? Totally recommend to protect your pet from heart worms,โฆ

Sounds like an add but when you've fostered dogs in heartworm treatment it is very dangerous for the dog. Preventing seems expensive but it is so much cheaper than treating the disease or the therapist you may have to see after neglecting your sweet unconditionally loving friend.

It's so hard getting my dogs to take medications, but Heartgard Plus Chewables I have little trouble with. Both my dogs gobble them down. For a while, I tried saving money using a pharmacy and ordering ivermectin but had mixed results in terms of the dogsโ reaction to it (sensitive stomachs sometimes donโt like it). No idea why I ever switched from Heartgard because itโs effective and the dogs tolerate it incredibly well, they even look forward to the treat because it tastes good. Donโt stray like I did, just stick with good old Heartgard!
And ordering from PetCareRx is great, they have excellent customer service and handle the interaction with the veterinarian really well.

I switched from Advantage II years ago for economic reasons and have also used Frontline and K9 Advantix II over the years. I've been using Heartgard Plus for several years and now find my Vet recommends this brand for all her clients. Works great for my rescue golden who had and was treated for heartworms before I adopted her; have never had any issues.

Unfortunately we lost our beloved chocolate lab chloe. We had just signed up for the membership and lost her 3 weeks later.

After having given my various golden retrievers probably all the typical heartworm products over the years, I tried the Heartgard Plus chewables during the last 6 mth dosing period and what a difference! When they were younger, they would chew . tablets of the other brands but as they got older, they would only take the tablet if it was wrapped up in a pill pocket, which is a real challenge due to size of pill pocket vs size of the tablets. I liked the concept of a soft chew 'pill' and so have each of my goldens. Sadie, my current baby, loves treats or anything wrapped in a pill pocket, so she loves the Heartgard chewables. Another reason I changed from the hard tablets to the soft chews is the cost. When I was working, I didn't pay much attention to costs, especially for my babies. But now I'm on a fixed income less than 1/2 what I used to make, I find that being able to get a quality product that Sadie likes and that costs significantly less than the competition makes both of us very happy!

I always worry when I have something to give him that is necessary and has to be eaten. He is a picky eater, and what is good today may not be tomorrow. When I gave him his first chewable, three months ago, I wasn't sure if he would like it and agree to eat it. I broke it in half hoping smelling the inside would be more enticing. When he ate the first one and looked at me for the other piece I was holding in my hand I praised him and smothered him and scratched him all over. After that when I show him the box and tell him I have something for him, he gets excited, sits in front of me and stares until he gets his chewable. Happy Mommy status!!! Thank You :)

Wish I didn't have to give him any type of prescription drug, but his achy knees and slowed gait tell me otherwise. I do use other supplements (fish oil, glucosomine, chondroiton), but his arthritis is too big for them to handle alone.

Heartgard Plus is a great product that my golden retriever takes very easily (this is not always the case with other meds). It is so much more affordable than other heartworm meds. Sadie was a rescue dog that we adopted 8 years ago. At that time, she was being treated for heartworms and after she was recovered, we took her home and have been using Heartgard Plus since that time -- no reoccurence of heartworms so that's a good testimony.

Giving pills and prescriptions can be quite a chore sometimes. These are great, however! My dog loves them and thinks they are a treat. They have a "meaty" appearance and color and are a soft chew item. And he just eats it! That's it! I will probably always use these for his heart worm prevention. Don't see a reason to change.

It is wonderful that there is such a reasonable way, cost wise, to protect my dog from heartworms. Many years ago, I had a dog who got heartworms, and survived, but the expense was high and it took a toll on him. Now I do not have to worry that my present dog will ever get them. What more can you say. Does the job and itโs easy to use. Youโve got to treat the heart worm risk and this method works great as our dog looks at the chew as a treat. My Vet recommends this medication for the wellbeing of my dogs. It is important for this med to be given on a regular monthly basis to protect our dogs from Heartworm. Heartguard has always been good to our dogs. We have not encountered any problems in the past 14 years. Here in Hawaii we have a lot of pests, including mosquitos, which can be harmful to our dogs. Heartguard is a little pricy considering there are so many out there. My one dog will only eat the heartguard. I guess it's the flavor, but none of my dogs before ever cared. It's a great product but just expensive, compared to others.

I have a large German Shepherd and have had trouble getting her to take her heartworm pill for 2'years. My Vet recommended the Heartworm chewables and she loves them. Per vet recommendation, have used this product for years. Never a problem with side effects or such issues. Use for both my dog and cat. Only complaint I've had is that it takes several days to become effective, so if your pet gets some fleas at the end of the cycle, they can stay and bite all they want until the next dose kicks in. That can be a long three days!

My miniature dachshund loves her Heartgard chewable. She thinks it's a treat and has never had an issue with flavor. The chewable is sized about right for her mouth, but I split it in half to make it easier for her to chew. First time we bought this looked at the size of the "pill" and thought this will be a fight. However turns out the dog likes it and thinks it's a treat! Heartgard Plus is about the easiest medication you'll ever give to your dog. They take it like a treat, so the only work you're responsible for is remembering when to give it to them...and that's even easy, as Heartgard provides stickers for your calendar to remind you. If you mess this up, you're really TRYING.Can't think of any downside to this product, other than determining whether it really works. Does your dog not have heartworm because of the medication? Or because they've just never been exposed? As for me, I'm not going to take the risk, and I'll choose Heartgard.

I have 3 boxers that weight 90-98 lbs & at the vet's office, a 12 month supply of Heartgard Plus for just him is 140.00; here it is 88.99, and I have 3 dogs!. They do tricks for them because they taste like treats. No diarrhea here! Just healthy, heartworm free dogs! That is a savings of 51.01 each dog and it's the same exact thing that I get at my vet. How can you lose? One also uses Timolol eye drops for glaucoma and the vet charges 38.99 for a small bottle. I get the same size bottle here, same brand, for 12.99. And he needs it 3x per day in each eye so I go thru 4 bottles every 3 months. That's a savings of 26.00 per bottle, or 104.00 savings every 3 months for the 4 bottles he uses in that period of time. This place is wonderful! I'm on a budget and have three dogs so I really save a lot shopping here. I keep my two shih tzu on monthly heartworm pills. We recently switched vets and the new vet recommended Heartguard Plus Chewable. Both of them loved the "treat" but vomited within a day of administration. They were previously on interceptor and never had any problem. We'll be switching back to Interceptor.

i have two dogs, Snowy, 15yr old, American eskimo and Athena, a year and a half, bulldog, german shepard mix. Both dogs are very picky eaters. If you have ever tried getting a Toy Poodle to swallow a pill, you will appreciate this. We have tried for years to get our baby to "chew" up the generic with no luck. She even found it in a piece of hot dog. We switched to the beef chews and now I just hand it to her and she eats it up and wants more. I am satisfied with the product. I wasn't particularly satisfied in the frustration of getting the product. I called your office after getting an e-mail indicating my vet wouldn't allow me to get the medicine. I was told to call by Whitney to the vet and find out why. I called the vet, they said they never got the faxed paper that you sent and there was no reason for me not to be able to get the medication. Finally, I called back to you, spoke with Anthony who checked, stated they would send another fax, I finally got the product and I am pleased. I will probably order from you again.

I have used this product for over 19 years. My first dog, a terrier mix, really liked this and always ate it up. My new dog is an extremely picky eater disliking almost every dog treat but he gobbles these up and truly thinks it's a treat to eat. When my vet told me that he didn't carry Heartgard, I told him that I would be getting it from an online pharmacy and could I have a written prescription for it. He told me that they could just call him and he would authorize it. When my Heartgard did not come with the Frontline that I ordered, I called and was told by the customer service rep that they had been trying to get ahold of my vet with no success. I called him and told him that they were trying unsuccessfully to get ahold of him to authorize my Heartgard and he told me that he didn't want to be charged for the phone call and that is why he wasn't picking up. I told him that if he didn't pick up the next time they called, that I was coming up there and he was giving me a written prescription for the product, or I was going to report him. Needless to say, he picked up, authorized the Heartgard and I am happy!

My dog acquired both roundworms and hookworms while on Heartgard Plus.My vet billed the manufacturer for the treatments each time, including the initial and follow-up fecal tests. Anyone giving their dog Heartgard needs to make sure they are having their pet tested regularly (at least once a year) for roundworm and hookworm. (These parasites are particularly prevalent if deer and rabbits are present in your area, which they are in mine).

I would give pet care rx a 10 but it only goes to 5. I would also like to say that pet care rx really cares and is concerned about your pet. I live in an area with alot of mosquitos. I didn't know that they can infect your dog with heartworms until one of my dogs was infected. The treatments for heartworms is expensive and there's a chance the dog will die. I have been using heartguard for 10 years now on my other dogs and they have had no problems. The pills are easy to use. The package even helps you keep track of when to give the treatment.

I have used the original Heartgard chewables to treat against heartworm for about 15 years without problem. My issue lies with the routine dispensing of Heatgard Plus which contains the additional chemical Pyrantel used for treating hookworms. If your objective is to treat against heartworm then give Heartgard but use Heartgard Plus only if your dog has been diagnosed with hookworms. Why subject your dog to more chemicals than is absolutely necessary? We do have a choice!

I've been using Heartgurad for over 20 years now and it's the only heartworm medication I'l use. It's easy to administer because of the flavor, my dogs think it's a treat, and the stickers for the calander make it simple to remember when they're supposed to get it. None of my dogs have ever had heartworm, not sure if it's because of the Heartgurad or just very fortunate, but I'm not going to take that chance. My dogs deserve the best protection I can give them.

Our chocolate lab was given Heartgard as treatment during the first 18 months of his life. During that time he also developed epilepsy; we started him on seizure medications (phenobarbitol and KBr). He continued with seizures, and fifty percent of the time that he had seizures,they occurred within 2 days of his taking Heartgard. We switched to Interceptor and he's been fine! Just a warning for those with epileptic animals!

We found that the Pet Care Rx supplies are great products. We tried othersand did not care for them. With Heart gaurd Plus we have not had any problems. We always use Hartgard Plus for our pooch and haven't had a problem. The chewables seem to be the easiest way to go and our dog seems to like the taste. The expiration date was far enough away that I don't have to worry about odering 6 months supply in advance and having them expire before dispensed. Ordering from PetCare Rx is easy and comprable in price if not better. I will use them again in the future for sure.

I highly recommed using PetCareRx. I was having trouble with my vet because they wanted me to buy Heartguard from them at a 60% markup. They did not want to match the Petcare price. Then she went on to say that Petcare products are possibly purchased overseas or on the black market. I explained that they OK'd the sript for my other 3 dogs. What was the difference now? She told me that PetCareRx wouldn't stand behind their products if, the dogs were to contract heartworm. So I called the customer service line and had gotten a 100% guarantee that, if any of my dogs came down with a positive heartworm test, they would reimburse me the medical costs for the treatment of the heartworm. I would give this product a 5 paws my yellow Lab is always into everything. Living in a large rual area with swamp, trees and farm fields and around other animals this product has done the job. I have had a dog with heart worms and the treatment at the vet nearly killed my poor dog(1970). He took a long time to recover. Now, I don't have to wait until my pet gets heart worms to treat him. It's easy and he loves the taste.

It's so easy to give our Daisy and Sam Heartgard and it does control the various worms. We're outdoors a lot during the height of mosquito season and they've maintained good health. Expensive, but worth it.

My cocker spaniel thinks that the Heartguard treatment is a treat. He comes for it and takes it to his special treat eating spot (under the table) and does not leave a crumb. Having been plagued with fleas I am going to switch to the Heartguard Plus and hope it does as well and that he tolerates it as well too, but the fleas don't.

I really recommend this product....i have 4 tiny chihuahua's, they are closer to the ground than alot of dogs, i trust Heartgard,my chi's have never been sick....all of them love this product, & have no problem eating them...they get very excited to get it each month...We used to have a rott/pit mix...he got sick with heart worms....by the time we found out he had this, it was too late, we didn't know about Heartgard at that time,after he had to be put to sleep,we learned about heartgard & it's benefits, we use it every month with our chi's. Heartgard is not only effective but very practical in that my dog loves the flavor and readily gobbles up the "treat". It's not necessary to try to fool him by weapping his medicine in a piece of meat or cheese. He loves it and so do I!

When I moved, my new Vet said they do not carry Heartgard. They just only sold heartworm preventative pills you have to put down the animal's throat (or try to break up and hide in their food!). When I was a kid, I had a poodle who died of heartworm disease, so it was on my mind quite a bit when my family got our puppy, Chelsea. I read a lot of books about puppy care, and about how to deal with puppy worms that might endanger her life. Finally I talked to my veterinarian, who recommended HEARTGARD Plus-a heartworm preventive that also takes care of other worms in puppies and dogs. The first time I gave Chelsea HEARTGARD Plus, I had to laugh. She loved it! It's been three years now, and Chelsea is happy, healthy and heartworm-free.
