Dorzolamide ophthalmic should be used cautiously in pregnant or nursing pets, and in pets with liver and/or kidney disease. If any side effects occur (swelling, hives, difficulty breathing), stop using Dorzolamide HCl on your pet and contact your veterinarian. Do not touch the dropper to any surface, including the eyes and hands. If it becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in the eye.

Glaucoma is a condition in which an eye disease that damages the optic nerve, and because of that, if it is left untreated, can cause a loss of vision. Since on of the most common causes of glaucoma is the overproduction of fluid inside the eye, drugs like dorzolamide ophthalmic can help by dampening the ability of the aqueous humor to produce the fluids in question. A topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, dorzolamide ophthalmic is used mainly to prevent the spread of glaucoma to the unaffected eye of a patient with glaucoma, however it can also be used to treat secondary glaucoma.
