Dorzolamide Eye Drops are specially formulated for pets diagnosed with glaucoma, a debilitating condition characterized by elevated pressure within the eye. Glaucoma, if left untreated, can lead to irreversible nerve damage and potential blindness in animals.

  • Usage -These eye drops play a crucial role in managing glaucoma by effectively reducing intraocular pressure, thus safeguarding the optic nerve and preserving vision. Regular use of Dorzolamide Eye Drops as prescribed by a veterinarian can help mitigate the progression of the disease and maintain ocular health in pets.

  • Administration -When administering Dorzolamide Eye Drops, it is essential to exercise caution to prevent contamination. Carefully apply the drops as directed, ensuring the cap is securely fastened between uses to maintain the medication's integrity. To optimize their efficacy, it is advisable to wait at least five minutes before applying any other eye medications.

  • Composition -The active ingredient in Dorzolamide Eye Drops is Dorzolamide Hydrochloride (HCl), a potent carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. By targeting this enzyme, Dorzolamide effectively reduces the production of aqueous humor within the eye, lowering intraocular pressure and alleviating the strain on the optic nerve.

  • Storage -To preserve the efficacy of Dorzolamide Eye Drops, it is imperative to store them at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Proper storage conditions help maintain the stability and potency of the medication, ensuring optimal therapeutic outcomes for pets.

  • Dosage -Each milliliter of Dorzolamide Eye Drops contains approximately 20 drops. Veterinarians prescribe the appropriate dosage based on the specific needs and conditions of the pet. It is crucial to adhere to the prescribed dosage regimen to achieve the desired therapeutic effects while minimizing the risk of adverse reactions.

  • Side Effects -While Dorzolamide Eye Drops are generally well-tolerated, some pets may experience mild side effects such as burning, stinging, or irritation upon application. Other potential adverse reactions include changes in pupil size, dry eyes, a runny nose, nausea, or vomiting. Pet owners should exercise caution, particularly if their pet is allergic to sulfa drugs, as Dorzolamide contains sulfonamide moieties.

Dorzolamide Eye Drops are available as an FDA-approved generic drug, ensuring adherence to rigorous quality standards. Pet owners may encounter variations in the medication brand between orders, but each formulation undergoes stringent quality assurance measures to uphold safety and efficacy.

The duration of treatment with Dorzolamide Eye Drops varies depending on the severity of the pet's glaucoma and their response to therapy. Pet owners should consult their veterinarian to determine the appropriate duration of treatment and monitor their pet's progress closely throughout therapy.

Glaucoma is a painful disease that can lead to loss of vision for your pet. Ask your veterinarian about Dorzolamide Hydrochloride Ophthalmic Solution. It is indicated for use in the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma. Dorzolamide HCL also lowers the risk of nerve damage and loss of vision, something every pet owner wants.

1 drop three times a day, adjusting dosage based on your pets response to the therapy.

Dorzolamide ophthalmic might sting the eye, so be careful when administering. It can also cause a sensitivity to light.

What Are Some Early Signs of Glaucoma in Dogs?
Answer

Glaucoma in dogs can be a progressive condition (where it gradually becomes worse), or it may be sudden and acute. According to Katie Grzyb, who pursued her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University, some of its early-stage symptoms include watery discharge from eyes, swelling or bulging, pupil dilation, squinting, redness, and a cloudy appearance. Affected dogs may show increased sensitivity to light and may have a constant urge to rub their eyes. In case the glaucoma is acute, the dog may experience high pressure in the eyes, redness, and slow-moving pupils. Pet parents must keep an eye out for such early signs for prompt disease management and treatment.

Which Dog Breeds Are Most Vulnerable to Developing Glaucoma?
Answer

According to the University of Missouri, MU Veterinary Health Center, primary glaucoma is a condition that is most commonly found among purebred dogs. The breeds that are most likely to develop primary glaucoma include poodles, beagles, Basset hounds, chow chows, and terrier breeds. In some cases, this condition may be found in mixed-breed dogs as well. In any case, primary glaucoma is predisposed to affect one eye first, after which it gradually spreads to the other as well.

What Happens if Glaucoma in Dogs is Left Untreated?
Answer

Glaucoma is a condition caused due to improper fluid drainage from the eye. This leads to a high level of intraocular pressure, or IOP, which is where the problem lies. According to John May, a DVM from Cornell University, if this intraocular pressure extends for prolonged periods, it can damage your dogโ€™s optic nerve. When that occurs, they may suffer from vision loss in that eye. Whether caused as a primary or secondary condition, pet parents must know that glaucoma is an emergency. It can lead to irreversible blindness within 24 hours (especially when the condition is acute and aggressive).

Do Cats Develop Glaucoma?
Answer

Cats can develop glaucoma, but this condition may have certain exceptions in their case. For instance โ€“ Primary feline glaucoma is pretty rare. It may only be found in Siamese or Burmese cats. Other than that, a cat may have glaucoma in one eye (even severe) but never develop it in the other eye. In most feline breeds, secondary glaucoma is commonly observed. The symptoms in cats may be similar to those found in dogs. They will experience watery discharge, eyeball bulging, bloodshot eyes, dilated pupils, and a cloudy appearance. There may also be some subtle signs present, including becoming less affectionate, hiding, or decreased grooming.

Is Glaucoma in Animals Curable?
Answer

The spectrum of surgical and therapeutic treatments for glaucoma is growing. Even so, it is an incurable condition. In many cases, the disorder is diagnosed too late to save the animalโ€™s eye. According to VCA Animal Hospitals, the diseaseโ€™s prognosis largely depends upon its underlying causes. Most affected animals will require medication and treatment for the long haul. There are medicated eye drops available to prevent nerve damage and reduce the risk of vision loss. However, it is important to catch the early signs of this condition. Other treatment procedures include surgery, analgesics, and the use of carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.

What is the Dosage for Dorzolamide HCL Ophthalmic Solution?
Answer

The most common medicated eye drops prescribed for pets with glaucoma is the Dorzolamide HCL ophthalmic solution. It helps reduce the pressure around the eyes, decreases pain and swelling, and lowers the risk of nerve damage or vision loss. In general, Dorzolamide HCL ophthalmic solutionโ€™s recommended dosage is one drop three times a day. However, pet parents must monitor their petโ€™s response to this therapy and adjust the dosage accordingly. The ideal time would be right before feeding or some exciting activity that the pet usually enjoys. This is because the eye drops may sting a bit, so distractions are always welcome.

Are There Any Side Effects of Dorzolamide HCL Ophthalmic Solution?
Answer

Most pets (dogs or cats) respond well to the regular dosage of Dorzolamide HCL ophthalmic solution. However, there may be side effects involved in some cases. These include sore eyes and swelling, temporarily blurred vision, itchiness, and a stinging sensation in the eyes. These side effects are mostly seen in cases where the drops are used for prolonged periods. If you find any of these signs after administering the eye drops, take your pet to their veterinarian for a quick check-up.

Is it Safe to Breed a Dog with Glaucoma?
Answer

Dogs may be affected with primary or secondary glaucoma. Primary glaucoma is a leading cause of permanent vision loss in animals. Some dog breeds, like the basset hound and cocker spaniel, are more susceptible than others to developing this condition. Based on their breed predilection, such dogs may have developed this condition due to genetic factors. This is why affected dogs must be excluded from breeding, as their offspring are likely to experience similar complications.

Dorzolamide ophthalmic should be used cautiously in pregnant or nursing pets, and in pets with liver and/or kidney disease. Do not give dorzolamide ophthalmic to pets with an allergy to sulfonamides, furosemide, thiazide diuretics, diabetes medicines, or carbonic anhydrase inhibitor-type glaucoma medication.

If any side effects occur (swelling, hives, difficulty breathing), stop using Dorzolamide HCl on your pet and contact your veterinarian. Do not touch the dropper to any surface, including the eyes and hands. If it becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in the eye.

Glaucoma is a condition in which an eye disease that damages the optic nerve, and because of that, if it is left untreated, can cause a loss of vision. Since on of the most common causes of glaucoma is the overproduction of fluid inside the eye, drugs like dorzolamide ophthalmic can help by dampening the ability of the aqueous humor to produce the fluids in question. A topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, dorzolamide ophthalmic is used mainly to prevent the spread of glaucoma to the unaffected eye of a patient with glaucoma, however it can also be used to treat secondary glaucoma.

VERIFIED PURCHASER

I am thrilled with the way this product has helped my 15 year old cocker spaniel. My dog has glacoma and you can tell its helped just by looking at his e1. The cost alone is amazing. I have been quoted in the range of $99. all the way down to under 20. Since I am on a fixed income this has been a tremendous help.

C
Work well, but sting
VERIFIED PURCHASER

The drops worked well and reduced the pressure in my cat's eye. The vet was concerned her eye would need to be removed, but after a few weeks of diligent treatment 3x/day, she's doing much better. Her eye looks better, (less cloudy and no irritation or squinting) and she feels better, too. They do sting for a few seconds after using them (I know this because once I accidentally used her drops in my own e1, instead of my allergy drops). They also have a very bitter taste (I know because I gave her a kiss after I dosed her, and some got on my lip). They can leave the fur around the eye crusty so you should wipe the excess off with a tissue after dosing. She tends to shake her head afterwards, so the excess would land all over her fur, which she'd try to lick off, and it was not pleasant. Once I figured this out, she's not as reluctant to take the medication. Other than that, I'm very happy with the meds, and thankful they saved her eye. Bonus, the price on this site is great, compared to the $56 I spent for the same thing at CVS.
