Royal Canin's veterinarians, pet nutritionists, breeders, and cat professionals formulated the precise diet that guaranteed the cat's specific nutritional requirements.

When you need the right food for your sensitive cat, where everything else has not worked, the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Hydrolyzed Protein Adult Hp Dry Cat Food will make your cat meow this pure protein finally makes me feel comfortable and normal again!

Why should your cat start eating Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Hydrolyzed Protein Adult Hp Dry Cat Food?

First of all, Royal Canin has been at the forefront of pet nutrition for over 50 years with high-quality products, safety standards, and pioneering research with the best nutritionists, veterinarians, breeders, and pet professionals that formulate optimal diets for pets with special needs.

Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Hydrolyzed Protein Adult Hp Dry Cat Food's recipe addresses a cat's digestive, urinary, and skin health, which improves dermatological and gastrointestinal signs from the food sensitivities. It is veterinary-exclusive dry cat food and a long-term solution for adult cats with food sensitivities.

The main ingredient and protein source hydrolyzed soy proteins are easily absorbed into the cat's digestive tract without triggering a negative reaction in the immune system. Royal Canin's S/O Index promotes urinary health. The optimal amounts of B vitamins, amino acids, and omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA promote healthy skin and coat.

How does Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Hydrolyzed Protein Adult Hp Dry Cat Food work?

The Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Hydrolyzed Protein Adult Hp Dry Cat Food recipe's main ingredient of hydrolyzed soy protein source reduces food sensitivities from common proteins found in regular pet foods that can result in allergic dermatological (e.g., rashes and wounds) or gastrointestinal reactions (e.g., vomiting and diarrhea).

How this works for this specific protein source (and only carbohydrate) is that the hydrolyzed soy protein is turned into chemical, hypoallergenic amino acid fragments that pass through the immune system undetected. The exclusive blend of fibers and prebiotics helps regulate intestinal transit and support digestive health.

These essential nutrients including an optimal amount of B vitamins and amino acids reinforce the natural, healthy skin barrier in cats. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are long-chain omega-3 fatty acids that promote healthy skin and coat. These fatty acids also support cats that are prone to digestive upsets.

Lastly, Royal Canin's exclusive S/O index diet promotes a urinary environment that is unfavorable to the formation of urinary crystals and kidney stones (e.g., struvite and calcium oxalate).

Nutritional Value

Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Hydrolyzed Protein Adult Hp Dry Cat Food is a grain-inclusive dry cat food that uses soy as its main source of protein. Below are the crude nutritional values in protein, fat, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids:

Crude Protein (23.0 %) is the measure of all sources of nitrogen and includes nonprotein nitrogen, which may have no human value. It's a chemical analysis of the number of animals (e.g., chicken, milk, etc.) and non-protein (e.g., grains) in the food.

Crude Fat (18.0 %) is the term for fat-soluble materials such as lipid content in your cat's food when ingested. The diet is restricted in fat.

Crude Fiber (5.6 %) is a measure of indigestible cellulose, pentosans, lignin, and other components of this type of chemical fibers. It has little food value but provides major intestinal tract peristalsis, a wave-like muscle contraction to relax the stomach muscles.

Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) (0.18%) is a long-chain omega-3 fatty acid and EPA combined with Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) (0.08%) improves a variety of bodily conditions, including promoting a healthy cat skin and coat.

Is Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Good for Cats?
Answer

One of the most common problems that pets often suffer from includes allergies and hypersensitivities to food. This generally happens when the petโ€™s immune system reacts to particular foods when they ingest the same in their body. The immune system response is governed by its exposure to the various common ingredients that the pet feeds on daily. In the reactions, the immune system normally treats a part of the food as antigens and thereby develops antibodies against them. Such reactive action by the immune system often leads to the pet developing allergies. Administering novel protein sources of food as well as hydrolyzed protein can be a means to control or curb such reactions by the immune system. One of the great sources of hydrolyzed protein food can be administered to your pet by opting to feed them with expert-designed formulation diet foods. Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Hydrolyzed Protein Adult HP Dry Cat Food is one such cat food that has a formulation that helps meet the above requirements of such pets. The high-quality ingredients as well as the inclusion of plant-based protein source, soy helps to create a pet food that is easily deemed as one of the best for consumption by such pets with food sensitivities.

What Does Hydrolyzed Protein Mean in Cat Food?
Answer

Hydrolyzed protein foods have protein compounds that are broken down into smaller building blocks like amino acids or peptides. The process of the breakdown of proteins is facilitated by enzymatic or chemical hydrolysis. The reason for breaking down the protein into smaller amino acids is to help the gastrointestinal systems of your pet in easy absorption of the nutrients, without any reaction by the immune system of your pet. Another important feature that hydrolyzed protein food for pets often exhibits is the inclusion of novel protein sources that are not commonly in use as a pet feed. The combined efforts of these two actions help create a diet that is capable of getting rid of any existing allergies. Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Hydrolyzed Protein Adult HP Dry Cat Food can be one such option that helps provide pets with a formulation that contains hydrolyzed protein sources of food. Thereby helping your pet to tackle any food sensitivities or allergies. However, it is always advisable to contact your petโ€™s veterinarian to have a better understanding of such issues and help your pet with speedy resolution of their allergies by the administration of medication along with such hydrolyzed protein food.

Is Royal Canin Cat Food Hypoallergenic?
Answer

One of the best ways to tackle the most common problems that pets often suffer from, i.e. allergies and hypersensitivities to food is by administering them with hypoallergenic food. Such foods are less likely to react with the immune system of your pets. The formulation of Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Hydrolyzed Protein Adult HP Dry Cat Food is based on Royal Caninโ€™s five decades of research data on pet nutrition and feeding habits. The recipe of the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet has a special blend of nutrients that are easily absorbed by the petโ€™s gastrointestinal system. Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Hydrolyzed Protein Adult HP Dry Cat Food contains hydrolyzed proteins that have molecules having low molecular weight. This particular feature enables Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline food to be a hypoallergenic food for pets. Therefore this food can help your cats to be fed with a protein source that is carefully selected so as not to react with their immune system and help them have a healthy body.

Can IBD Be Cured in Cats?
Answer

Feline inflammatory bowel disease or IBD is a condition in which chronic irritation and inflammation of the cat's gastrointestinal system occur. Under these circumstances, the pets become extremely vulnerable and are susceptible to allergies. Therefore though there is no cure for Feline inflammatory bowel disease or IBD, being cautious can help you to give them a long and worry-free life. Administering these cats with hydrolyzed protein foods can be a great idea to ease the action of their gastrointestinal system and help them absorb the essential nutrients which are crucial for their well-being. It is also important to have regular checks by your petโ€™s veterinarian to diagnose any changing conditions or development of any ailing symptoms in your pets. It is often seen that veterinarians recommend various diagnostic tests to find out the underlying reasons for the disease.

Is hydrolyzed protein better for cats?
Answer

Hydrolyzed protein can be beneficial for certain cats with specific dietary needs or sensitivities. Hydrolyzed protein refers to a process where the protein is broken down into smaller fragments, making it easier to digest. This process is often used in specialized cat foods designed for cats with food allergies or intolerances. Hydrolyzed protein diets are typically recommended when a cat has been diagnosed with a food allergy or intolerance, as they can help reduce the allergic response. The hydrolysis process breaks down the protein into smaller components that are less likely to trigger an immune reaction.

What are the side effects of hydrolyzed protein in cats?
Answer

Hydrolyzed protein diets for cats are generally considered safe and well-tolerated. However, like any dietary change, there can be some potential side effects, although they are typically rare and mild. Hydrolyzed diets can potentially increase osmolarity in the intestines. The process of hydrolyzing proteins breaks them down into smaller fragments, which can increase the osmotic pressure in the intestines. This increased osmolarity can draw more water into the intestines, leading to softer or looser stools in some cats. Some cats may experience temporary digestive disturbances such as diarrhea, vomiting, or flatulence when transitioning to a new diet, including hydrolyzed protein diets. This can be due to the change in ingredients or the cat's sensitivity to the new formulation. However, these symptoms should resolve within a few days as the cat adjusts to the new food. Hydrolyzed protein diets may have a different taste and smell compared to regular cat food. Some cats may find the taste unappealing, leading to decreased appetite or refusal to eat. In such cases, it's important to work with your veterinarian to find alternative options or strategies to encourage acceptance of the hydrolyzed protein diet. Hydrolyzed protein diets are specifically formulated to provide balanced nutrition, but it's essential to ensure that the diet meets all of your cat's nutritional needs. Regular monitoring and periodic check-ups with your veterinarian can help ensure your cat is maintaining good health and receiving adequate nutrition.

What is the difference between Royal Canin hydrolyzed protein HP and SP?
Answer

The main difference between Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein (HP) and Hydrolyzed Protein Select (SP) formulas lies in the protein sources used and the specific dietary indications they address. The HP formula primarily uses hydrolyzed soy protein as the protein source. This formula is typically recommended for cats with suspected or diagnosed food allergies or intolerances, such as adverse reactions to common protein sources like chicken or fish. It is designed to help manage allergic skin conditions and gastrointestinal disorders related to food sensitivities. On the other hand, the SP formula uses hydrolyzed salmon as the primary protein source. The SP formula is specifically developed for cats with food sensitivities or allergies manifesting as skin or digestive issues. It offers an alternative protein source compared to the HP formula and may be suitable for cats that have not responded well to other protein sources. Both HP and SP formulas undergo a hydrolysis process that breaks down the proteins into smaller fragments. This process aims to minimize the allergenic potential of the protein and reduce the likelihood of triggering an immune response in cats with food sensitivities.

Can all cats eat hydrolyzed protein?
Answer

While hydrolyzed protein diets can be beneficial for cats with specific dietary needs, not all cats require or can eat hydrolyzed protein. Hydrolyzed protein diets are primarily recommended for cats with diagnosed food allergies or intolerances. Cats with food allergies or intolerances may experience adverse reactions to certain protein sources, leading to symptoms such as skin issues, gastrointestinal problems, or chronic ear infections. In these cases, hydrolyzed protein diets can be used as a therapeutic approach to manage the allergic response by providing protein sources that have been broken down into smaller, hypoallergenic fragments. However, for cats without diagnosed allergies or sensitivities, a balanced and complete diet that meets their nutritional needs is usually sufficient. Hydrolyzed protein diets are not necessary for cats without specific dietary concerns, and they may not provide any additional benefits in terms of nutrition or overall health.

Is hydrolyzed protein easier on the kidneys?
Answer

Hydrolyzed protein itself is not specifically designed to be easier on the kidneys. The primary purpose of hydrolyzed protein diets is to provide a hypoallergenic option for cats with food allergies or sensitivities. While hydrolyzed protein diets may be easier for some cats with certain conditions to digest and tolerate, there isn't a direct association between hydrolyzed protein diets and kidney health. In cases of kidney disease, specific renal diets are typically recommended. These diets are specifically formulated to support kidney function and manage the progression of the disease. Renal diets often have controlled levels of protein, phosphorus, and other nutrients to reduce the workload on the kidneys and help maintain overall renal health.

My cats love it
VERIFIED PURCHASER

A fewyears ago, my 18 year old cat developed an allergy to grain and had a urinary blockage - he almost died. E tried a couple different foods and then the vet recommended this hydrolyzed protein with S/O index and he hasn't had any more urinary issues or allergies. Bonus - all the cats (gave up on separate diets for them) have much softer and shinier fur.
