This company is known for selling extremely low quality and rediculously overpriced dog food. I have and will never use this product for my dogs.

I looked at the ingredients, and there are mystery meats, that's gross, probably road kill. Vets probably shouldn't recommend this trash.

My 15 year old pom is very picky. She loves this food. I also feed it to my senior yorkie and winnie dog. They love this food and eat it up like its wet food!

Why does this product cause bad breath? I've been using Science Diet dry dog food for my pets for 15+ years and never had any issues. I switched to Senior Vitality, the two dogs get horrible breath. Switched to another SD product, bad breath went away. Forgot, and bought SV and bad breath came back. No teeth brushing, even 3-4 times a week cures the bad breath. WHAT UP SD?

I put my dog on this food when it first came out. My dog started acting like a puppy again and would play with her toys that she hadn't touched since she was under a year. As the years went on, I saw more of a difference every year like she was getting younger. She plays with her toys now and runs around the house and is super happy. She always acted like an old lady but after having her on this food, she acts like a 10 month old puppy. I am sad that I can longer find this food in stores. I can only buy it online.

One cup morning & night and he's a happy camper. Bought one of those "maze-like" dog bowls as he's an eager eater and now we're both happy.

Switched my dogs to this and now can't find it anywhere. Ridiculous

Annie is a rescue from our humane society. They guessed her at 5 and she's been with us for 7 years. She just finished her second small bag of the 11+ food & is a new dog. She wants to play again & has more zip in her step. Thank you! So glad we found this food!

Our 15 year old dachshund has been having trouble with doggie dementia, lethargy and continence. I switched her to Youthful Vitality about a little over a year ago. I am really pleased. Her bladder control has improved to the point that she no longer requires diapers. Her cognitive abilities may have improved a little but I'm not positive. What I am positive about is that she has not gotten worse. For me that's a win because she was going downhill quickly. She is still relatively lethargic most of the time but I do notice that she is pretty frisky after a long rest. She has even played with me a couple of times and yesterday she ran around the entire house while out for a potty break. It did take a little while to see the improvements but that is to be expected. - Also, the food tastes great! Our younger dog, who is on joint food, tries to steal it from her! I am an employee of Hill's and love and highly recommend this food for senior pets.

My Irish Terrier is 12 years old and I noticed she wasn't as active as she used to be. I switched her to Youthful Vitality and noticed a difference in her activity level almost immediately. She used to take the stairs up and down our deck much slower, but now she approaches them with confidence and quickly climbs the stairs. She has never been a picky eater, and she continues to eat this food without hesitation. When I started feeding Youthful Vitality, I was feeding her the same quantity of food that she received before I switched and noticed that she was gaining weight. I reduced the serving size a bit so that she maintains an appropriate weight. I would definitely recommend Youthful Vitality to anyone with an older pet. If you see the change in behavior that I did, you will recommend it too.

We have a shelter dog, Australian shepherd mix, that has been part of our family for the last 7 years. He has had his ups and downs in the past with weight issues after we first adopted, to coat issues, and other challenges that just happen due to aging. As he's gotten older we continue to adjust his diet to his activity and just started using youthful vitality in June of this year. He absolutely loves the food. With as active as he is behaving we may never have to change his diet again.

My dog Chocolate Mousse is 9 years old and has been eating Youthful Vitality since the summer of 2018. I have noticed a positive difference in her energy, willingness to play more and less time sleeping during the day. Her coat and skin also improved, resulting in less shedding.

My dog is older now and I notice that he's put on some weight. I decided that I wanted to get him eating better food on a regular schedule. I went to my pet store and planned on getting a small bag of the weight management formula but seen a $7 off coupon of the Youthful Vitality so I scooped that bag right up! My dog took to the food right away and I have more trouble with him getting on a schedule than I do with getting him to eat the food. It's been about a month now and he has shed some pounds and is still happy with the food. He always looks forward to feeding time! My dog is a Lhasa Apso, I get him the large breed option. The pieces of food are the perfect size for him, they are not very big at all but I feel that he would scarf down the small breed option. The velcro closure on the packaging is awesome! I buy the small bags and I do wish that the opening was a bit wider. I have small hands so it isn't much of an issue but much bigger it would be more difficult to maneuver the scoop without spilling. I'm hoping to stick with this food but it is pricey and that may deter me from sticking with it later on. All in all my dog and I are very happy with this food. He has lost some weight and there is an extra skip in his step these days!

I have been feeding Youthful Vitality to my two Australian Shepherds ages 10 and 11 for over a year. They love the taste and are doing fantastic. Prior to feeding my 11 year old would get a limp after a few minutes of playing ball. Her limp has completely disappeared. Eyes are bright, coats are shiny and energy level is great! I am an employee of Hill's and love and highly recommend this food for senior pets.

Like any quality pet food it's expensive but so are high vet bills for an unhealthy pooch. We adopted our now 15.5-year-old pug at 11 years of age, and he was extremely unwell and unhealthy. Although other food was fine, he had to be coaxed to eat it and was limping a lot despite the addition of hip & joint supplements. We have had him on Youthful Vitality for a little over 6 months and although he still cannot manage steep stairs, he is no longer limping when he gets up from a nap/sleep, and actually makes the effort to play a little with our 1-year-old dog.
by suzitzki on 04/27/2018
She was lethargic. Now she has vitality again. I serve it as it comes or with treat added. Like a bite of people food.

I have two dogs that are both 10 years old and they absolutely love it. One has a very sensitive stomach but he gobbles it up, no problem. You can really see a difference in their energy as well.
by Kaitlyn on 03/08/2018
Starting feeding this to my 10yo chihuahua within a few days saw a complete change. So much energy and alternes. It's a tad expensive but worth it for family.

I attribute Hill's Science Diet for keeping my fur baby a long healthy age of almost 15 yrs old. And of course this is in combination with a lot of love, care and protection and the care of my vet too. The average dachshund lasts 8 yrs old. Sparkie will be 15 yrs old in September 2018. Get the appropriate age/kind/type of Hill's Science Diet that you need, and you'll too have a pet that beats the odds.
by Nana on 01/24/2018
I bought a bag of this a couple months ago for my 11-year-old Pomeranian. He has lost some hair especially on his hind quarters. I had him checked and blood tested by the vet we found nothing wrong. The conclusion was hereditary baldness. After eating most of this first bag of food, we all started to notice how fluffy he has become-not to mention most of his lost hair on his backside has grown back. If I had not seen it myself, I would never believe it. My dog is growing his hair back and what he had is thicker and fluffier. The only thing I have noticed that I don't care for is a strong smell to the food.

My 14yr. old chow chow mix chows down these kibbles. She's been eating youthful vitality for a few months now, she loves the taste. I can just drop her meds. into her kibbles and she gobbles them up. (I add water to her meals). She gets around as good as can be for being a super duper senior ? and is pretty active for her age. We regularly go out and she enjoys her adventures & loves roadtrips & visiting new places..we always bring her"old lady food".
by Mingy on 10/14/2017
i tried this with my 13 yr old who has knee/stifle issues and cannot control her urine - none of the medications work - on this food, she moves better and she does not urine leak as bad! she seems to be able to hold it more and get outside to relieve herself!! will keep feeding her this !! we have fed science diet since 1975, and as usual, it proves its worth ! thank you hills!
by raf af on 09/07/2017
I have not noticed any specific changes in my senior dogs. They both seem to enjoy the taste and find it highly palatable. Activity and cognitive level seems to be the same as before.
by Tararara on 03/29/2017
I adopted my dog when she was 10, and have fed her exclusively Science Diet Active Longevity (at my vet's recommendation) since. She is now 16 years old and has zero health problems, she's just a tad bit slow and sleepy (life goals, personally), but I have always felt a little bad that she has been eating the dog food equivalent of fiber twig cereal and boiled chicken for the last 6 years. Its kept her healthy, which is the I most important thing, but I don't think she I enjoyed it much. Enter this new food specifically for elderly dogs! She absolutely loves it, actually gets excited for meals and will prance around, it's adorable. There's also an accompanying line of stews that are a big hit. I am a fan of this product, and my 16 year old dog (and her vet) are too!!
by LauraDee on 03/16/2017
It's a bit of a crazy situation with the dog we got this food for and we no longer have her. She is back with her owner in New Mexico. I can however say she really likes the food and never hesitated to eat it!
by saral on 03/02/2017
After an month on this food I can honestly say my 14 year old Terrier mix is like a new dog. She has more energy and more flexibility. She was really having problems with going up and down stairs but after a couple of weeks on this food it was noticeable how much easier it seemed to be for her. She loves the food as well. I couldn't be more pleased.
by Elaine0516 on 02/28/2017
Honestly, I haven't noticed many changes when feeding this food to my dog. In the beginning, he seemed to drink a lot more than usual, but this didn't cause any problems. I was briefly worried when he rarely defecated. On the previous food, he usually went twice a day, with this food it went down to once a day and a small amount. There was no evidence of constipation or any discomfort. I will chalk it up to different ingredients/nutrient ratios. I have not observed my dog acting any younger/more active. Though, to be fair, he never acted particularly old/inactive. He has never been a hyper dog, but keeps up on hikes/walks. This has not changed.
by Larz on 02/27/2017
Our 12 year old dog, Mister, is much more enthusiastic about eating because he enjoys the taste of Youthful Vitality so much. He also went on a five mile hike and seemed more comfortable than usual the next day.
by Prylster on 02/27/2017
the dogs are excited about it, smells really good!

My 11 year old border collie mix has been eating Hill'sยฎ Science Dietยฎ Canine Adult 7+ Chicken Recipe for several weeks now. I thought we had been happy with her previous food, although at times she would refuse to eat it unless I added a little water to make "gravy". We received the new food around the time I had to take her in to the vet for a parasite and discussed the change in food with her vet, intending to switch after her bug was cleared up. Her vet was ecstatic that she would be changing and encouraged me not to even wait past her round of antibiotics. The switch went smoothly with minimal digestive disruption, and best yet- she hasn't "asked" once for water on the new food! She loves it! The weather in CO has been spotty, but we are taking long walks on nice days and I'm enjoying my healthy, happy dog. This food costs almost double what I was feeding previously, but we will continue feeding Hill'sยฎ Science Dietยฎ Canine Adult 7+ even after the trial because she loves it so much and is feeling wonderful.

My once picky border collie now dives right into his food. He also seems to now have the rust of extra energy! My once retired running buddy is now hitting the pavement again.
by Kelliott on 02/25/2017
The transition to this food was very easy. Jasper eats it very well. The thinner discs are easy for him to chew and I think he's enjoyed the change of pace.
by Slawzer504 on 11/06/2016
My dog loved this food from the get go. I never had to worry that he would balk at eating this new food after a couple of days. Kibble was just the right size for my older dog, not so small that he would just swallow without chewing or too big that he would have trouble breaking up the food with the few teeth he has left. A definite winner.
by KateW on 11/02/2016
I switched my dog to this food over a month ago and quickly noticed a big difference in his daily interactions with the rest of the family. He seemed to spend more time with us whereas before he was a bit of a loner, even antisocial. He also spent more time outside playing with the younger dogs we have, even played with the cat. He loved this food from day one and cleaned his bowl every time without fail. Overall I am extremely happy with this food and would recommend it to anyone with a mature dog that seems to have lost some pep. Though he isn't a puppy, he has more energy than he did before and is a more active member of our family
by pumbaadog on 11/01/2016
I fed this to my dog for two weeks. After the second week, she refused to eat it anymore. The kibble was coated heavily with what I'm assuming were the ingredients listed, however it wasn't an even distribution on all of the kibble. Some of the kibble were very dark in color while others were a lighter color. The ingredients listed was awesome, but my dog didn't want anything to do with it after the two weeks.

Hello, my name is Jason and I don't have a question, but I just wanted to thank everyone there for the amazing gift that your food has been! I have a toy poodle named Rain, who is currently twelve years old. I have had her since she was six months, and I was eight and a half. When she first came to us, she was skin and bones. The big dogs would push past her and steal her food, and when she did get food, she couldn't hold much down. It took us a few tries to find a food that her stomach would easily tolerate. We tried her on science diet, and that was the first time she didn't throw up after eating. She now eats "Science Diet: age defying small breeds" and I couldn't be happier. She started gaining weight quickly on science diet as a puppy, and now that she's twelve, there are no signs that she's ever missed a meal. We took her to the vet recently for a check up, and they said that while her heart and lungs sound perfect for a dog her age, her eyes no longer show any reaction to light. We've known for a while that her eyesight has been deteriorating, but now she is fully blind. That being said, I will take a healthy but blind dog any day over a sighted dog that's sick and suffering. Rain is a wonderful dog, and I can't imagine where my life would be without her. I am autistic and verbally communicating has always been extremely difficult, but I was able to practice talking to Rain, and improve my abilities to talk. If I have a nightmare, she will curl up on my bed and lick my cheek until I calm down. I love her so much, and I don't know where I would be without her. Thank you for caring about animals enough to make a food that she can eat! I know she either wouldn't be here, or would have a poor quality of life without her Science Diet! Thank you for loving her as much as I do.

16 years ago when she adopted our little shih-poo we tried everything and she just wouldn't eat. We were given a bag of a different brand of dog food and told that is what she ate and she wouldn't eat it. She barely weighed 3/4 of a pound and when I took her to get checked out at the vet they gave me a sample of dry Hill's Science Diet. I concocted 5 different mixtures with baby food, etc. and the one she picked was the just plain Hill's Science Diet. She has eaten it that way for 16 years and still going strong.
by KTTTTTT on 08/02/2016
My dog loved the healthy Cuisine roasted chicken, carrots and spinach stew! She ate it up quickly and was loving the canned dog food treat! (I usually feed her dry Science Diet). It did not seem to bother her stomach and did not change her bathroom habits at all nor did I notice any gas from the food. I plan to start purchasing canned dog food and incorporate in into her feeding schedule as a treat a few times a week!

My Chihuahua has been eating this for several years. She needed something healthy, very low in sodium and a small kibble. (and at a fair price!) This Small & Toy Breed, age 11+ Age Defying product works for both of us - Chihuahua likes her food and Mom finds it cost effective. Great customer service also.

We tried another dog food after using Hill's Science Diet since they were born. It had an adverse effect on our younger dogs. They were missing something out of their diet. Odie began to lick every thing in site. So once we went back to our original science diet food after a week he was doing much better. Our dogs are amazing happy and healty because they eat Science Diet.

I have 3 senior dogs, the oldest is 15. Since changing them to this formula they have showed great improvement. Their coat is softer and healthier, they have more energy and don't eat as much now. They all love it and my newest addition we rescued from the local shelter who is our foster dog even loves it and her hair stopped falling out and has shown much improvement over all. Great dog food all around
by Debbie64 on 09/16/2015
After years of eating wet food, I was not sure if my senior dogs would accept a dry formulation. To my surprise, they loved it!! I am glad that my veterinarian suggested a change to both a dry and a senior formula, and recommended Hills. Thanks for making a yummy food for my doggies!
by PatT812 on 09/07/2015
my pug is elderly and most foods are too hard on her digestion. This one has given her no problems, she looks and feels great and she actually likes it, which is cool since she's quite picky.
by ojidanowe on 08/07/2015
Ember is my smallest pomeranian, and my oldest (though we can't be 100% sure of her age). She is a rescue, and wasn't always taken care of well. She's been eating Prescription Diet t/d for years, but last year she lost most of her remaining teeth during a routine dental. Without matching teeth to chew even the small bite kibble, I began researching other diets for her. The Small and Toy Breed Age Defying diet is easy for her to eat, and she loves it!

This dog food is for dogs 11+ fantastic, and for small dogs like Stubby our rat terrier, small bits he can eat easily, he seems to like it and that is so important. bravo, Stubby has been eating Science Diet since he was a puppy and is over 15 years old, doing well. thanks so much, Crystal

This product helps maintain a healthy coat and avoid skin dryness in older dogs. The food is small and easy to chew and digest when older dogs have missing teeth or other dental problems.

When I got her as a puppy, I tried many other types and brands of dry dog food (she refused to eat for a couple days)and finally the Hills brand was the only one she would eat and it had to be the small bites as she was a little dog. She has been on Hills every since and she still wont eat other brands of dog food.
