Our terrier did not usually want to eat and was throwing up all her food within a few hours of eating. Because of that she was always hungry and begging for treats. Our vet recommended z/d dry food and from the day she started on it, no more vomiting. She was eating all her food too! We went through 2 bags thinking our problems were finally solved! The last bag we purchased, I noticed the color had changed from dark brown to a mixture of dark brown / light brown. She won't touch it so now we're back to square one. What's going on? Obviously you've changed the ingredients without any info on the bag that we know of.

Our sweet westie Cesar was on ZD forc15 years. He was diagnosed with allergies at age 2 by our former vet. She recommended ZD and he was on it until he crossed rainbow Bridge almost 3 weeks ago. I would highly recommend this product to any pet parent of a westie who has allergies.
by Westie mom 2 on 01/05/2023
This food works for my Australian shepard mix who has allergies and no thyroid and has to be supplemented. She doesn't chew on her feet and scratch anymore. After reading other's comments on the corn starch I asked my niece who is a vet. The corn starch provides protein that can be broken down into strands that don't promote allergies. The corn also provides lysine and that's great for the skin. Z/D is certified by AAFCO standards which means it is balanced. I'm glad I asked so that I have more information, as corn gets a bad rap I think. After 6 years of trying to figure out what's wrong with my dog, I now know what's right and this works.

This is a good product but I really wish there were good alternatives. The price of this prescription dog food keeps going up and up. Looking for an alternative.
by Mark Sacher on 04/04/2022
My dog suffered allergies for her entire life. We tried diets and shots. When my regular vet was out with Covid a retired vet filled in for him. When I took her for her monthly shot, which really was not very effective, the retired vet suggested we try this dog food. It has been a real game changer, her allergies are controlled now way better than the shots or any other food ever worked. And itโs actually cheaper than the monthly shot!

This food was prescribed for our little girl. She does really well on it & likes the food.

Our French bulldog loves it but Hills has run into problems with their supply chain or unceremoniously stopped producing it. Canโt find it anywhere. Such a bummer.

I rely on this food for my dog but now I can't get large bags. I have to continue to run back to my vet to pick up the 8 pound bags, just curious what's going on in production? I feel like I should look for an alternative I can rely on.

Had been having big problems with my young Frenchie keeping food down and diarrhoea... Needless to say this has changed our lives for the better! This and the canned version. Only problem is my other doggies want her food now. ????
by Buddy the Frenchie on 11/25/2020
This is not a whole food and it is kibble to boot. Have a small bag and it's temporary feeding only. Love my pup way too much to feed her this garbage for too long. Not good enough and from Hills Prescription no less.
by DDD on 03/15/2020
This is the only dog food my golden retriever can eat without getting upset stomachs or skin irritation. However the first ingredient is corn starch and I don't think feeding my dog a high concentrated form of corn starch is healthy for my dog. I feed him the recommended feeding guide for a 35kg adult dog, however my dog gained 10kg! And is now overweight. Even with regular min 1 hr exercise every day. He doesn't get treats everyday unless it's carrots. I have a feeling this made him fat. Though it helped with his allergies, it just caused another problem to worry about.
by Koda on 02/09/2020
I have read many of the comments. I agree with the upsetting fact that Corn Starch is the first ingredient. I have a Bichon with major skin & belly allergies. He is allergice to everything (no exaggeration). Recently we adopted a Cavi-chon. She was eating a Rachel Rey food, so I mixed both to ease her in & give my Bichon a treat. The Bichon's poops were always watery and seemed lesser than a normal poo. Well, 4 weeks later... both are scratching & rubbing & Bichon is shaking his head w/ red, red ears. Their poops are much better, formed & firm, but they are both miserable. So, donating a big bag of RR food & back to ZD! Will supplement with bone broth & psyllium husk to improve poo production, I guess. Thanks for developing a food that works for doggos that are allergic to just about everything. We are customers for life!

We rescued a 5 month old very itchy, ear infected miserable shihtzu. His puppy chow came with him. Got him a vet appt.Vet told us right away "this puppy has food allergies" Scruff was allergic to the protein and the red and green food coloring.Put him on Z/D dry and wet. With in a week of the food change,Scruff was on the road to recovery. He is now 8 1/2 years old.I think at times he gets tired of it,so I sometimes give him a small bit of gravy mixed in it when I cook gravy(not very often)

My yorkshire terrier vomits lots of mornings (from it's firsth age). My dog has been treated for stomach via some drugs and Hills I/D. There was not result. In this case We tried D/D according to Our vet suggestion. Than We started Z/D. My yorkshire terrier is better . I have to say that big size grain was big problem for my little yorky. I had to grinder original size Z/D via kitchen robot, in this case each part was abrasive for sensitive stomach surface. This was new problem for us. My yorky started to recover WITH SMALL ORIGINAL SIZE Z/D. SMALL ORIGINAL SIZE IS ACCEPTABLE FOR MY LITTLE YORKY. I food My yorky with Hills Z/D from 3 years. And we will continiou with Z/D. Our healt problem is not finished completely but solved with Z/D at big value . PRESCRIPTION FOODS may be required for any kind & any size of dog. Big dog can eat little size food but small dogs can NEVER bite big size (grain is already very hard.)

My dog suffered with upset stomach for months and no matter what we tried nothing fixed him - until this food ! He now only has this ZD food and nothing else - he loves the taste and his tummy is perfect ! We even have these as his treats ( same biscuits ) but he thinks they are great ! Don't know what we do without this
by Tvann on 02/26/2019
I was told when I adopted her from the local humane society, this was all she could eat. I didn't believe them. It took me a long time of trial and much error to realize they were right. It's ALL she can eat. I've tried other holistic, expensive brands. Even big brands like Wellness and Blue Wilderness. Z/D is the only thing she can eat. I have the vet bills to prove it. She wolfs it down so I assume she likes it. Then again, she tries to eat anything and everything so that doesn't really mean anything. It smells terrible. But I have no complaints from the dog. It's ridiculously expensive and it kills my budget. But I'm stuck. It's the only thing she can eat!
by Tammy on 01/11/2019
I started my English bulldog on the z/d after the vet recommended it. We were battling severe skin allergies, licking his red swollen paws, ear infections, diarrhea, runny nose, eye infections. Basically everything. He was miserable. We're a year out from when we started the z/d diet and we no longer have to do the allergy shot, any allergy meds, and haven't had any infections. The only downfall is it is pricey. We started our 2nd English bulldog on it as soon as we switched her to adult food in hopes that we can prevent the allergy problem.
by Krystal on 01/03/2019
My Yorkie Lhasa Apso mix was so stinky and so itchy that he would have to get steroid shots to help with this discomfort. After using this food for 3 or so weeks, the smell was practically gone and his itching had stopped. I will be starting my second bag today. The food smells and, I think, tastes very good. The other three dogs that I have want to eat my Yorkie food.
by Java on 11/28/2018
My vet recommended this product for both of my dogs itchy and scratchiness. I was hesitant because any other quality food I've tried to give them they refuse to eat. I got a small bag and mixed half and half, came back a little later to see all of the new kibble gone and pieces of the old kibble around the floor where they spit it out. I was shocked that they loved it more than their current kibble. Bruno, who has the most itchy, scratchy problems, has seemed to improve, but we haven't been on the new food for very long. Will definitely recommend!
by Jazmyn on 11/15/2018
I've always given my 11 year old papillon Hills products and have good luck! In his old age my vet sugggested this and he seems to like the taste and I'm hoping it helps with the itching.

I struggled for 2 years trying to put weight on my dog, he was eating me out of house and home just to maintain a normal body condition. After surgery the vet prescribed the ZD formula and now my 85 lb GSD only eats 2 cups a day & is a beautiful BCS! Thanks for the wonderful product he will be on it for the rest of his life.
by Real Rogue Von Narnia on 04/24/2018
On any other food my Pip has horribly mucus diarrhea. He endured medical test after test trying to diagnose why. Just before we were going to do a surgical biopsy on his small intestine (he was only 5 months old!) we decided to do a trial of Z/D. It was miraculous! Yes, it's expensive but better than vet bills and an unhappy dog with diarrhea. Pip is now 7 years old, happy and has beautiful poo...as long as no one at a dog park feeds him treats!
by Mickilu on 04/01/2018
Simon stopped shedding, scratching, and being a stinky boy within about 2 1/2 weeks of switching to z/d. He's also playing like a pup again!

My 3.2 lb yorkie has had stomach issues for about a month. Diarrhea mostly & some vomiting. It occurred to me that the zd dry food we have feed her for the past 10 years has changed sizes 2x during the past couple months. It went from the larger chunk(apps.1/4 inch sq.) to a flat circle to a mini tiny chunk. Is this all the same ingredients? Has the formula changed? Even though we were happily surprised with the size change, our yorkie has had intestinal problems since the change. Can I get some info or advice? Thank you!
by Linnyloulou on 08/27/2017
Been using this for about 5 months because of food and digestive sensitivities. She has had such a turn around since using this z/d product. We are so happy to have found it and so grateful for her return to good health! The cost is about the same as the other "food" available, as well. She scarfs it down each meal! No more scratchy, itchy, unhappy smelly yeasty dog.
by epstephanie on 07/23/2017
My rescue dog had horrible dry skin even with special shampoos and conditioners she was scratching all the time. My vet recommended this and once she switched, not more itching, no more dry flaky skin and she loves it.

I bought a 100 lb bag of this very expensive dog food upon recommendation of my vet. Trying everything to help my schnauzer from itching. I guess I can't fault the food not helping. But I do fault the bag for not closing tightly. It has a velcro closing which isn't very secure. The ants found it and invaded.
by Sandibeach on 04/23/2017
When I buy this dog food, I great for my dog and the paper bag it comes in is great for the environment. Oh wait, no it's not, the packaging was changed to a plastic, non biodegradable bad for the environment bag. Just what I would expect from a world wide animal promoting company.
by Sue Ann on 04/05/2017
We absolutely love z/d by Hills. Our dog goes crazy over it every day, which he has never done before for any food. He's a little boston terrier who is gassy and frequently vomits in the middle of the night from upset belly. We tried several different types of food before we settled on this per vet recommendation. Our little guy is now 5 night vomit free and that is saying something! We are on a tight budget at the moment which makes the price a little frustrating since we eats like a cow. However, he's worth it and the price is *almost* worth it!
by aharg on 03/08/2017
Our Lab mix was adopted from a shelter. He was skinny and had diarrhea or at best very loose stools. Yuk!! Our vet recommended that we try z/d. The difference is amazing. He is healthy with no runny tummy with a beautiful shinny coat! We are careful to only give him very pure treats or use the z/d as treats. Duke loves the taste! The food is expensive but worth it! I highly recommend this food.
by Nana2017 on 02/06/2017
I am starting to feed my dog this food after being told to try it by my vet. It's too soon to tell if it works but I have to be honest....charging this much money for a dog food that has CORN STARCH as the first ingredient has me pretty angry. Not only does it cost an arm and a leg, it has terrible caloric/nutritional value and he has to eat a TON of it compared to any other food I've ever fed him. I have a pretty big dog so he eats alot so I'm glad this is only a food trial. BTW I feel so bad watching him eat this food, he looks like he hates it.

Works wonders for food sensitivities. My husky went a year of having bouts of diarrhea. I refused to believe it was his food. Ultrasound, radiographs and full blood work up showed nothing. Put him on z/d for about 6 months and he did phenomenal. I wanted to see what he was actually sensitive to so I started using limited ingredient diets with a single protein and single carb. He did well on a lot of those for a while then had an unknown bout of GI issues (without even switching his food) so we went back to this. I had finished off a bag of the "old formula" then switched to the "new improved formula". My dog still loves it but I'm angry that the kibble size is much smaller AND the food now contains 50ish less kcal per cup. I have a skinny large breed dog to begin with and now I have to feed him even more food per day for him to put some pounds on when the price of this food is high. I see I'm not the only one bummed about kibble size. Make a large breed and high cal formula please.
by thehuskymom on 11/03/2016
Hill's honestly cares about the pets that consume their food and the quality of what they deliver. The are concerned that the product is palatable for different breeds which I do not believe is the case with all manufacturers. They know that their prescription diets are key to a quality of life for many pets as is the case with my dogs who both eat Z/D and are toy breed. They listen and show they truly understand pet nutrition.

I've had my 115 lb Rottie on Z/D for over 3 years and its been the only thing that keeps his poop semi normal. Its super expensive as I go through a 25 lb bag every 3 weeks, but since it works.. I live with the expense. However the "new improved" formula has a much smaller kibble size and even in a slow feeder dish, he scarfs this down too quickly because he barely needs to chew. Since he's not allowed any other food, we also use a piece or two as his treats. While he is extremely gentle it's really hard to just give him one or two pieces without him slobbering your hand looking for the treat. I'm hoping they go back to the old size pieces. I did call customer service and let them know, and while they were very nice, I'm not sure that will do any good. Fingers crossed

Just opened a new bag of z/d and I DO NOT like the new size. My older dog eats much too fast so I put these in a ball to slow her down. The older pellets were just the right size. The new ones just falls out with no delay!!!
by Vera on 08/17/2016
My dog has been on Z/D for quite a while & he liked it UNTIL the "improved formula". I checked the ingredients & there's not much change, but he just really doesn't want to eat it. He goes to the bowl & sniffs and then walks off. When he gets REALLY hungry, he will, with no ill-effects, but leaves some every time. I do notice the change in texture, but I can't imagine that would keep him from eating.
by Dodo on 08/05/2016
Our rescue pup Bailey has been on z/d for just over a year. He had reluctantly eaten it hours after we gave it to him. Our latest bag was "Improved" and he not only eats it immediately but will stand with his nose in his empty dish waiting patiently for more. Not sure how it was improved but both Bailey and I thank you. He loves it.

Our 20 month old Lab has had stomach issues for about 4 months. The Vet checked for blockage, blood work, xrays. During this time our Vet changed her food to Hills Z/D. It has helped her tremendously. No stomach issues for 2 months now. Cross your fingers! Pet Care has been wonderful. Very helpful when needed. I can reorder online as long as there is a valid prescription on file from our Vet for refills. Highly recommend Hills Z/D, it helped Heidi.

Why did they have to change the formula? I thought it looked different when I opened our last bag and now see why. My dog won't eat the improved formula, so that isn't an improvement for us.

by Samantha on 04/10/2016
Our dog was experiencing a lot of stomach issues. After trying various things to resolve them, our vet recommended this food. Worked like a charm! He's been much healthier ever since. While it is very expensive, we figure the trade-off is less lab tests and vet bills, so in the long run we're probably saving money.
by Peg1002 on 03/16/2016
Ollie, my 2 1/2 year old German Shepherd had chronic ear issues that were being treated with cortisone shots and ointment for his ears. It had gotten to the point where he would start to whimper when I would reach for the ear ointment. Upon switching his food to ZD, his ear issue has resolved, his coat condition is excellent, and he is overall a much happier dog. An added bonus is that this is such a high quality food that you actually feed less that standard pet food. Ollie gives a resounding 2 paws up for the change the ZD has made.
by Debbie1001 on 12/16/2015
I love the new bag design! Eliminating the zip lock feature and replacing it with the Velcro material seal was a great update! It makes it so much easier to close the bag, and it keeps food fresher. Now I can store the food in the bag it came in, instead of having to transfer it to a different sealed container.
by Jls7 on 11/18/2015
My Vet recommended this food when my new puppy was constantly throwing up and her ears were always gunky--I was cleaning her ears about every 2-3 days. She is almost 8 now, has never eaten anything else, and has never had another problem with her stomach or ears.
by DogMom28 on 10/15/2015
My mixed Golden Retriever/German Shepherd has had digestive problems all along, and she is 2 this week. The vet recommended the regular Hills Science Diet for Sensitive Stomachs, which seemed to help for awhile, but Cody could never seem to get rid of her periodic bouts of diarrhea. After trying everything else, including blood tests (all negative) and deworming, the vet finally suggested Hills Z/D for Skin/Food. What a difference! Cody's been on it for several weeks now and her stools are perfectly normal. She loves the food. The only problem we ran into was that we weren't feeding her enough, in light of the fact that she is no longer getting chicken, rice or any regular-market treats. Check the feeding chart for the weight of your dog. (And yes, it is expensive, but totally worth it.)

Our poor little Acey was a rescue and we think he had been given table scraps all of his life-he was an itchy, scaly mess. The shelter started him on dry Z/D and he has been on it since May this year. He is doing great and keeps on eating it so it must still taste great to him. He still begs for table food after 4 months without it but we put his dish beside the table and he eats when we eat-seems to do the trick! He is looking and feeling so much better!!! Thank you

This is my dogs last resort for food. Between switching her to this food and changing her meds, it changed her life. We did this when she was 2, and now she is 8!!! Please do not change this food, or discontinue it! If you do, you will be killing her.. I just wish it cost a little bit less... I also have 6 cats. 2 that someone dumped in our area...and she was pregnant. 7 kittens later! Lost 3.. We started with Hills Science Diet kitten, and it took care of their tummy issues, and they are now eating Hills Science Diet Optimal care... same issue.. Price.. but great food! Thank you so much!

We have two golden retrievers....Mia is 9 and Jake 1 year and a half. When Jake was 6 months old he began having trouble with food. Our vet at that time wasn't much help and they didn't want to recommend any type of food stating that they all have their favorites. A couple days before Christmas, after dealing with these problems for months......Jake broke out in a bad case of hives. It was like a lightbulb went off in our vets head......he suggested we try z/d. We had results almost immediately,. Jake was a different dog - much more content and not so aggitated. The hives went away and he has been on this food ever since. He will be 2 in November and the vet said we can try and wean him onto something else, but truthfully, this is worth the money. He is much happier and so are we.

We tried several dog food brands at the specialty pet stores and it was an effort to even get our little cavapoo ( half cavalier king charles spaniel and half toy poodle) to eat. He would have multiple episodes of vomiting and diarrhea. Then our vet had us try the Hills Science ZD ultra hypoallergenic food. We use the can and the kibble. Now he shakes with excitement before each meal which he chows down in no time. What a difference! I can't imagine what we would have to do if we didn't have this ZD food as an option. I sometimes think about his siblings and wonder if they also have this problem. But we are very grateful to Hills Science for creating this food that has helped our dog thrive and is now happy and healthy.

Our 8 year old Maltese developed a skin disorder in the past several months. When antibiotics and medicated shampoos didn't fix the problem, our Vet suggested Hills z/d. It's been about a month that he's been on this product and while results are to be seen, our Maltese's reaction is positive. He likes the taste and we're not seeing any new sores. The product is expensive but if it's the cure...who cares? Of note, don't be surprised if your dog's regularity changes once they've gone on the z/d.

My Golden Retriever, Rocky, without a doubt, is the most expensive pet I have ever owned. I love him to pieces. He is fortunate that I have pet insurance. Lucky for us there is Hills ZD Ultra. Now he is a happy, thriving 4 year old now. He has been on it for approximately 2 years. He was on several other diets that did not agree with him. He can't even stomach chicken, poor guy. So we have the Hills non allergenic treats too. I don't know what we would have done without it! Thank you Hills!!!!

I have a 14 year old lab and this is the only food he can eat and has been for most of his life so needless to say I have spent a ton of money on this food. I just recently was told I could go on the website twice a month and print a $7 off coupon but am very frustrated that I have only been able to get one coupon. Every other time I have signed on it says I have printed my maximum number of times. As much as I have to spend on this food it is a shame there is no help available. I would not trade my dog for the world so I do what I have to do but some help would be nice.

Our 10 year old Shih Tzu has had a series of rashes and ear infections over the last several months. We have tried everything but to no avail. Sophia's doctor recommended going "cold turkey" until we find out what's her problem. No treats! No occasional meat scraps from dinner! Strict prescription food for the last 6 weeks and what a remarkable difference in her appearance, energy level and rashes, as well as her ear infections. Just got the OK to give her the Hill's hypo treats. She loves them along with an occasional streamed green bean. We have our little dog wagging her tail once again. She is looking great and sleeping well. Only one problem! She is sleeping so well that she snores very loudly! Thanks Hill's for the helping our sweet Sophia back on the road to good health!

We have been using z/d ultra dry for a month now and our fawn doberman has taken on very well to the food. There have been no allegry issues whatsoever which includes the skin sensitivity he has, plus he devours the food whereas before he would be very very fickle. Just being a month in, this food has had positive outcomes thus far.
by DobeDad on 08/04/2014
Even though it is the most expensive dog food we have tried, it is the only one that does not cause inflammation in our dogs ears. The relief it gives him offsets the cost, but he is a large dog and does go through the bag quite quickly.
by 1biglapdogfamily on 07/28/2014
My dog has been limited to this prescription food since he was a puppy. He is now 7years old and still continues to thrive on it.
by Petpal on 07/26/2014
My dog gets both wet and dry and loves this. He uses the dry as a snack as well.
by Bo12 on 07/23/2014
Hesitant at first after receiving the prescription from the Vet, and knowing my dogs tastes and eating habits, I thought I was going to be stuck with a large bag of dry food, and several cans of wet food. After all, it is a prescribed food, and we all know anything medically prescribedI cannot have that great a taste. Well, I was pleasantly surprised he really liked the product. He has been on ZD for several months and dry skin, itching, scratching has just about stopped. I am very pleased with this product. and would not hesitate to recommend it highly to anyone.
by Gizmoe on 07/17/2014
Good food and has helped my dog, but very expensive. If my dog did not have to use this food, I would not because of the price. It is easily double the price of other dog foods.
by HeatherC on 07/16/2014
The product (Z/D) serves its purpose however, it is very expensive. I can recommend this product but I also include that it is over priced. This does turn people off. My dog can take it or leave it, and sometimes she does leave it. Because of my dog's condition, again I am stuck. The Z/D treats however are excellent. But again expensive. I am a senior citizen on fixed income.
by KayJay on 07/12/2014
My dog really likes Z/D dog food, Very palatable. He is a large breed dog and eats all the food right away, Will take some time to be able to tell if it is working
by maggi1403 on 07/11/2014
My dog is a Schnauzer. He cannot eat over-the-counter dog food. He does very well with the zd/id and now ultra. The cost of the dog food is expensive. I tried to obtain a coupon, but it did not print.
by RScott on 07/02/2014
My dog suffered from itchy, scratchy bumps all over her body. We switched to Ultra z/d, and it all went away. Her coat is shiny and smooth, no more bumps. Happy, happy girl.
by kimilou on 07/01/2014
This was the only food that my GSP could tolerate. It was a welcome relief from her stomach upset which culminated in frequent vomiting as well as the beginning of hair loss. I've been using Science Diet for my dogs for the past 30 years. Even though I am a believer in Science Diet, I do not like the cost of the food. It is extremely expensive when feeding a 60lb dog.
by Carol2014 on 06/22/2014
My pet always had skin problems. As she got closer to a year old, she developed frequent skin infections as well as flakey itchy skin. I always purchased the best quality food and in my mind it could not be an issue. My vet suggested a food elimination diet to see if we could clear her issue. I was against it because it could not possibly be the food. I ended up in front of a dermo vet. He suggested the same. So I went along with it. I can tell you that she used to have 6 bowel movements a day. Now 2 to 3 with less volume. Along with taking medicine and the food she has minimal flake and very little itch. Her shedding used to be an issue as well. Not any longer. Now I plan on using the z/d exclusively. She is 58 pounds and one 17 pound bag lasts a month serving 4 measured cups daily.

Our border terrier suffers from CECS (canine epileptoid cramping syndrome). Many people with animals with this disorder find dietary changes can make a difference & we are no exception, most fortunately. After switching our dog to Hill's Prescription Diet Ultra a/d we found a marked decrease in the number of episodes she experiences. We also give her the hypo-allergenic treats which she also tolerates well & enjoys. Over the past year our 13 yr old girl's appetite has somewhat waned from the dry kibble with a result of a loss of weight which is concerning. Our vet recommended adding a little of the z/d wet food to the dry kibble & she now gobbles every bit of food at meal times. Most encouraging & so nice to see her enjoying her food again.
by Dilly on 05/30/2014
my pet has stomach issues and she can keep it down but if she didnt have the issues she would have to eat regular food
by jjfoul on 05/13/2014
My dogs love Hill's Science Diet Dog Food. They are 13 years old now and I'm have a hard time buying this costly food. But, I do it to keep my dogs happy and Healthy.
by bubby on 05/05/2014
This is the only food my Boxers gastrointestinal tract can handle for now after having peritonitis. So, it is really great that she also really likes the food. The food is kind of pricey but if it keeps her from being sick all of the time; its cheaper than going to the Veterinarian. The coupons also help some.
by ValleyCF on 05/01/2014
MacTavish loves the taste and the size of the pieces are just right! He's been able to lose weight without loss of energy!
by AuntNuy on 04/30/2014
My 6 year old Australian Shepard has IBM. The last 3 years I have been purchasing ZD - it works! Harley was rejecting all other foods and ending up in the hospital until we switch to ZD. It's all he eats now, kibble, meat and treats.
by Silvia2040 on 04/23/2014
This food is astronomically expensive, and I cannot say that my pet appears to be enjoying it. That said, his symptoms are fewer than before.
by Gostpiper on 04/20/2014
Annie is a thirteen year old yorkshire terrier that weighs in at an approximate weight of a five whopping pounds. She was coughing almost non stop prior to the veterinarian recommending Dry food Z/D and wet food Z/D. Also, she was digging into her skin and scratching until she brought the blood. Her overall healthstyle has improved immensely and we only feed her the Z/D. Annie continues an active lifestyle and we feel her diet has made all the difference.that she continues to live a quality life.
by MAC20 on 04/15/2014
Happy with the food as it solved a dry skin issue my dog was having. I wish it came it different flavors as she would love that. It's expensive, but worth the price to not have to visit her vet so frequently.
by lisbob5915 on 04/14/2014
Our dog can only eat this, everything else we have tried effects him negitivly.
by mom1 on 04/13/2014
Our dog Finnegan suffers from IBS and this dry food along with the canned has given his tummy a chance to heal and he finally eats happily. Before the Z/D we would have to coax him to eat sometimes taking 1/2 or longer because he knew he would feel awful after eatting. Thank you from giving our dog his spirit and happiness back.
by Beegirl on 04/13/2014
Finally found a healthy food that my dog actually loves to eat. Only drawback is that it is very hard on the pocketbook.
by fredsdad on 04/02/2014
I guess I just don't understand why it has to be with RX only, we want the best for our Shih Tzu...But it is getting pretty expensive. He enjoys the food, both the dry and the wet.
by legs on 03/31/2014
I highly recommend this food for anyone with a medical condition that needs this food. I have no worries since he has been on it.
by brgjd on 03/31/2014
Hill's Prescription Diet z/d Ultra is wonderful. Our dog had chronic gastrointestinal issues and we had tried several different brands before our vet finally tried z/d. It has been a God-send. We couldn't be more pleased.
by dsagan52 on 03/21/2014
Two of my dogs have been on ZD for many months and I am very happy that it's working for them. I am feeding both dry and can ZD and I even use the dry as a treat! Keep up the good work!
by Katydid on 03/19/2014
Sorry, it is so expensive. Always looking for coupons to buy it for them.
by Pilla07 on 03/09/2014
The quality of this product is excellent. It has helped my dog get back to very good overall health. My only complaint is the cost of the product. I do realize it a prescription and is by that alone a reason for the cost. However, the limited availability of coupons and their use is a bit frustrating. I have a large dog and the 25 pound bag does not go that far.
by soccermom8 on 02/23/2014
Recently switched my dog to ZD and she seems to like it, except wished the food morsels were smaller. I usually crush them up for her. She also like the canned ZD as well. She is a tiny toy poodle and is use to smaller morsels.
by Poodle6 on 02/06/2014
HAS MADE A HUGH DIFFENCE IN HIS LIFE AND MADE FOR A HAPPIER DOG
by DINK on 02/04/2014
My pet has been on this for a while. Most times he eats it just fine, but there are days I think he would prefer more flavor with the same benefits. Overall seems to work fine, a little expensive though.
by Oreomom on 01/30/2014
this product is very good for my dogs health and i recommend it
by Coco on 01/24/2014
This food is necessary for my dogs' condition. I think is it rather pricey and I have to get wet and dry and can spend over 100.00 in one trip just on food. The price need to come down.
by Tonya on 01/16/2014
This product cleared my dogs skin fast and he seems to enjoy it's taste.
by melonhead on 01/06/2014
Doing great on Hill's Prescription Diet! Loves the taste & smell! We don't have to coax our dog to eat at meal time now and he will eat whole meal with no fuss. Was Always worring if he was getting the right food with his medical condition or was he eating enough on other top quality foods as he just didn't like the taste or smell for some reason. Feels good to leave the worry up to Hill's! So far we are very pleased with HILL'S! Coupons are another BLESSING too!
by Christian on 01/02/2014
Overall I believe that the product costs way too much money, however it works well for my dog. Since being put on this dog food by the vet, she has not had 1 ear infection.
by jlm9243 on 12/16/2013
Bailey has been on this diet for over 5 yrs. He enjoys his food. Thought we would have problems changing over because he was on the Science Diet small bites and these are quite large. Wish they did come in smaller bites but it work.
by Bentley14 on 12/14/2013
My dog was given by the Vet, several other brands of dog food, but this one kept her balanced and it stopped her throwing up and bathroom problems. She has been eating Prescription Diet for about 2 years now and she is a healthy, beautiful dog.
by Chula2me on 11/29/2013
great my dog is doing much better on the ulta and the weather change is also making a big diff
by dean on 11/26/2013
My Chihuaha/pomeranian mix has been on the ZD prescription diet for 3 months now. She has not thrown up during this time nor has she been to the emergency or hospital for expensive diagnosis and treatments. Expensive but worth the savings on not having to take the time out for emergency hospital visits and bills.
by suemire2 on 11/20/2013
she is still licking but is much better dances a round when I fix her food
by rosemary66 on 11/19/2013
Zd is supposed to help clear up skin, nose and ear problems. Too early to tell if working. Dog likes the dry food. Price is high.
by Vonzie on 11/14/2013
Our Lab had become less active, more withdrawn. His digestive system just wasn't right; he suffered from regular bouts of vomiting and diarrhea. After extensive testing and different medications, he was finally put on Science Diet Z/D. The improvement was immediate. Now it's the only thing he eats, and our boy is once again a healthy, happy dog. Thank you, Science Diet.
by MegM on 10/30/2013
Our vet recommended this product and it has worked very well for us. Our lab loves the wet and dry versions and I am very satisfied with the product.
by LindaO on 10/28/2013
The product is good but the cost is high. ALso, you need a prescription so you can't easil;y shop for a better price.
by Manny on 10/23/2013
my dog has sensitive skin and changing her food to this type really helped to eliminate those hot spots that kept her scratching for days. It really works
by VCBRAN on 10/22/2013
He has digestive problems, gets internal bleeding if he eats anything else. This food saved his life, eating it about 2 + years now.
by Ted39 on 10/20/2013
The ZD helped with some of my Westie's skin problems, but she is still having some problems. I will continue using it, but was a bit disappointed that it did not take care of all of the skin issues.
by Rosie on 10/16/2013
I have had my doberman on Z/D ultra for over 11 years - It has helped her with all of her problems- helps to prevent diarreah and skin problems - Good product
by Jazzy2 on 10/07/2013
My golden retriever had severe digestive problems. At one point he was hospitalized for dehydration. We tried many vet food recommendations and some were better than others. But only the ZD Ultra presented no problems. He has eaten this diet, both dry and wet, for 3 years now. He gets the ZD biscuits as a treat. We are very careful that he remains solely on this diet.
by vmss on 10/03/2013
My calico cat has food sensitivities, and putting her on Z/D cleared up her itchy skin. It's a bit pricey, but worth it to know that she is getting the nutrition she needs. She enjoys the taste of the dry food but absolutely will not eat the canned food and neither will my male cat.
by IndyAnnie on 09/26/2013
When I put my dog's food in a baggie and give him them one at a time, he eats them like they are treats, instead of food.
by Loudles23 on 09/26/2013
This product was recommend by my veterinarian when my Cocker Spaniel developed a skin rash on her belly. It has totally cured this problem.
by Lisbob on 09/25/2013
My dog has always been a picky eater and would only eat dry food unless I mixed wet food with it. A few years ago he got very sick from eating the cat food and the vet prescribed Hill's Prescription Z/D and the moment I put it on the floor he was devouring it. I never have to worry now that he is not getting enough to eat. He loves it!!! He is a 13 year old dog, but still has the energy of a young pup. I would recommend this product. It is a little pricey, but worth every penny every time I see him eat it all.
by Jayhawkgirl33 on 09/22/2013
Z/d ultra wet and dry dog food are easy to put pills in. My dog Big Al loves the food and eats it quickly and it really agrees with him.
by Anna10 on 09/19/2013
I HAVE ALWAYS HAD A PROBLEM GETTING MY DOG TO EAT DRY DOG FOOD UNTIL WE TIED THIS. I PUT A SPOONFULL OF THE Z/D WET IN WITH A BOWL OF DRY AND HE GOES CRAZY TO EAT. HE IS AN 11 YEAR OLD JACK RUSSELL AND IS STILL FULL OF ENERGY AND IT IS VERY ENJOYABLE TO SEE HIM SO EXCITED TO EAT.
by Grimmie on 09/18/2013
Z/D is the right diet for my dog, it is easily digestible and does not leave excessive debris on his teeth. He likes it so much, I even use the kibble as treats. It does not have a strong smell or leave much residue on my hands.
by jedriscoll16 on 09/12/2013
He wasn't able to keep any food down until we tried this. He loves it!
by JoA75 on 09/11/2013
My dog only like z/d dry u should offer more varieties in wet food and offer more discounts or to purchase at other stores not only in vet office! more coupons or lower prices for the average or below average dog owners who want to help their pets but dont go backrupted!
by crazymom on 09/08/2013
I have 3 rescue dogs but only one is hyper-allergenic. But when you have 3 you have to leave grain out that they all can eat. All 3 love the z/d grain. It's their first choice every time!
by AngelaK on 08/23/2013
I adopted my dog fezick when he was 12 weeks old. From that day and the next 6 months, we would spend countless days at the vet at lest 2 times a week. We tried everything from a yogurt diet to many different pills... and of course diffrent dog food options. Nothing stoped his endless vomiting and diarrhea, he was so weak and lethargic. At that point my vet told me about another food option z/d ultra.... the food that saved his life...! Within 2 weeks the vomiting went for every day to a week apart, he also had normal stool. He began to play like a puppy, his fur got very shiny and his eyes had life again! My dog is alive today becuse of this food. That is priceless.
by Annie9103 on 06/30/2013
Our dachshund, Zoe, has a 'delicate constitution'. She tends to throw up at the drop of a hat, so our vet recommended that we try z/d Ultra. He instructed us to blend some in with her old food little by little and phase out the old food that way; unfortunately, Zoe had other plans. From her first taste of z/d Ultra, she wanted nothing more to do with her old food. She picked through her bowl, eating only the z/d Ultra and shoving the old food aside with her nose. When our vet later suggested that we might be able to prevent her repeated UTIs by sneaking more water into her diet as a 'gravy' on her food, we decided to give it a try. Zoe went nuts for her gravy, and loves her z/d Ultra even more with 'gravy' than she already did without it. The z/d Ultra is pricey but it's working for Zoe.
by LucyZoe on 06/29/2013
I use both the canned and dry Z/D and it has certainly solved my dog's gi issues. I just wish it wasn't so expensive. He eats 3 cans /day and 5 cups of dry /day.
by Reviewer on 04/09/2013
It is difficult to explain why this dog food is so good without describing the medical condition that it alleviates, but that is against the review guidelines. So I will just say my dog suffered for 11 years before we were finally given a prescription for this food, and now he is healthy and happy for the first time in his life. And he loves the taste of the dry food - he actually prefers it over the canned, so that saves me some money. My only complaint is the cost of this food, but since the results are so wonderful, I'll live with the cost.
