Good, but I wish the kibbles were smaller
Overall, this product works and my cat doesn't mind eating it -- granted it's not her absolute favorite -- but I wish the kibbles weren't so big. My cat is rather small in general and sometimes it seems she has a hard time getting them down. She will gulp somewhat strenuously or sometimes shake her head and occasionally she even seems to attempt to clear her throat when she's done eating. I tried softening it with water but she then has no interest in it and it's unfortunately extremely difficult to break the kibbles into smaller pieces. Cats usually swallow dry food whole and these are pretty big to be going down for their size. by on 06/08/2023
Reduced our cat's T4 value to almost normal!
Our 15yo cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at age 10. Radiation treatment (very expensive!) worked for a couple of years but soon his T4 was back up over 250. (Tablets were out of the question, as he had a severe reaction to them after a few days). The vet suggested the Hills yd cat food. We hoped he would like the taste, and he loves it! Last blood test showed his T4 down at 68: just 8 above the upper limit of normal! We are thrilled. by on 02/12/2023
Changed ingredients
The thyroid care dry food has been helping my cat and has been the only feed I had been able to feed without him spewing. Until today when we fed our cat a newly opened bag and spew everywhere within 2hrs of feeding. Checked out and compared the new bag of thyroid care dry to the old bag of thyroid care and the ingredients have changed! So now back to square one. by on 01/13/2023
Great for getting bloodwork back to normal
My senior cat had mildly elevated t3 & t4 and elevated kidney values. This food combined with the wet food brought it to a normal range. His energy is back to normal or thst of a younger cat. by on 12/30/2022
out of stock
Why is this product out of stock everywhere? What do I do to feed my cat? This the only thyroid food made. by on 12/30/2022
When will it be available again?
Can you provide any estimate of when the y/d products will be available again? It is challenging to make medical decisions for your pet with no idea of if/when this will return. It just seems irresponsible, heartless, and contrary to your statements to pretend there are easy alternatives for the cats needing this food. by on 12/20/2022
When will this be back in stock?
Our cat has done well on this diet. But now she is back on her meds because it's been out of stock everywhere for so long. It is much more expensive than her medications, but it was worth it for as long as it was available. When will it be back? And can we trust Hill's not to drop the ball again? by on 12/18/2022
Unfortunately, I need to since it is necessary for my cat
This food has been life saver to my precious fur baby. She was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism at her mature age. Unfortunately, she had a bad reaction to medication. This food was an amazing alternative! The price point is high, to say the least, for our family. But she is worth every penny! Running into a backorder situation is the most stressful thing a pet parent can go through. How do I feed her? What do I do? Yes, we have an amazing vet, but this is the ONLY option we have. Yes, I ordered early so that I would have extra on hand. Yes, I have called EVERYWHERE. Yes, I looked online at all the options that I could find. But now I am down to the last few days of my last bag. So, I called your customer service agent to find out an ETA. I received what sounds like a blanket statement, a script, explaining that all of the backorder was out of the company's control- shipping delays, delays in raw materials, etc. That is NOT enough of an explanation! See, I don't care who's fault it is. I just want to know when and where I can get more food, please. I also explained to the customer service agent that I found 24 cans of wet food (24 days- not enough) at our vet's office. Now less than 2 weeks before Christmas I have to come up with more money than budgeted (cans at the vet cost more than dry at Chewy) and all she did was tell me that she would make sure my comments were noted. Not even a coupon, or an apology, or anything was offered. I don't understand that! Do better- Make it right! by on 12/12/2022
When will you have stock of Y/D again
When will you have stock of Y/D again??? It was going great second bag in but now its out of stock. by on 11/30/2022
A GREAT alternative to pills
We tried different medication for my hyperthyroid cat and he HATED them all. It got so this once loving cat would run and hide when he saw me or my husband approaching him, and we were desperate to find another solution. He was not a candidate for iodine treatment, for many reasons, and we decided to try this food as a last resort, even though we were skeptical that simply changing his diet could possibly impact his condition in a meaningful way. Boy, were we wrong! This food has been so effective that after only 4 weeks his bloodwork is greatly improved and well on the way back to normal levels. And his behavior and attitude are back to normal, too - sweet and loving and happy to see us! He's always been finicky and fickle, but he took to the food right away, both the dry and the canned. In fact, he really loves the canned food - it is rather dry but we mix it with a little water and he eats it right up. The only problem now is that the canned is impossible to find! Fortunately the dry food seems to be readily available, so we're relying on that until we can once again get the canned as well. BTW - the vet suggested that our cat drink distilled water instead of tap water, to make sure he's not getting any possible extra iodine from the water. by on 10/17/2022
My Cat Refuses the Reformulated Product
My 20-year old cat has been on this diet for hyperthyroid for over a year and prefer it to pilling with felimazole for many reasons. However, with the recent re-formulation, my cat turns her nose up to this product! She once was excited to eat it but no more. Sadly, we are back to two options again for treatment: radiation or felimazole. by on 05/31/2022
Terrible
This product is very expensive and awful. When I first opened the can, I saw how thick and dry the food was. I felt bad just giving that to my cat. And the fact it only comes in one flavor (chicken). Did the creators of this product not think if they ate the exact same food everyday, wouldn't they get tired of it? After less than a week, my cat won't even eat the food anymore. She literally would rather starve than eat that thick, extra dry, same flavored food. Terrible product and I want my money back. ???????? by on 05/09/2020
Cat won't eat it
Very sad to say but my cat won't touch the wet food and I bought an entire case since this was my last resort for her. Meds made her sick and she is so old that the radiated iodine shot isn't really an option for her. I'm not sure what to do now :( by on 12/16/2019
An Alternative to Pills
My cat has Hyperthyroidism at age 12 and was showing the worst of symptoms: Dandruff/Shedding of coat, hunger, increased urination, increased water intake- the works. My vet and I had tried pills 2 times a day to combat this, but she had an absorption problem, rendering the pills useless. My vet recommended this food for her. My cat's health comes before anything else, so the flavor of the food isn't an issue, but it would be nice to give her certain flavors that she would enjoy...you know, considering this is the ONLY thing your cat can ever eat again. That's right, no treats, no Sheba cat food, not even a speck of ham or turkey. I lucked out that my picky eater will tolerate the food. I'm hoping to see continued improvement in the coming weeks and reccomend this as a powerful alternative to pills or the expensive surgery or radiation therapy. It appears all online vendors are the same price, but your vet is likely to have coupons, so I would order with them if possible. Good luck to anyone who wants their baby to be happy snd healthy living with an over active thyroid! ;] by on 01/17/2019
So Happy
My cat is hyperthyroid, he only took his medicine for 3 weeks, then just refused. I figured I'd let him go without the medicine I had to force on him (which upset us both) and strictly just feed him the y/d instead. Well, in the 18 days he's been on the diet, his T4 number dropped 10 points!!!! Amazing!!! He has lost a bit of weight so I asked vet for pen with meds in that go on inside of his ear to try and see if he will gain some weight. Thanks to this prescription diet, I now can breathe easier. If he misses a dose of his med or refuses the pen method too, I will not stress as in my opinion, the y/d is improving his health. Just wish there was wider selection of flavors. The y/d catfood is fantastic!
The y/d catfood made my cat feel so much better. She was very sick and we were extremely worried. She went from 12.8 lbs to 11.2 lbs in 2 weeks. She was vomiting profusely and her heart was beating as if she was going to go into cardiac arrest. We transitioned our cat over to this food(straight) in about 2 hrs. She loves it! I dare say that it saved her life. She eats about 3/4 can per day, no food wasted. She has been eating this food for 3 weeks now. She stopped losing weight and vomiting. She is not gaining any weight. She had stopped losing weight at 11.2lbs. This a normal weight for a DSH. I see all of comments about the can size and flavors. The food is very dense. Mix it with warm water until it has the texture of yogurt, smooth. If you want to keep it fresh for longer periods of time, get a vacuum sealer and pack the individual servings. I couldn't be happier with this food. Thank you Hills! by on 07/19/2018
8 weeks later and thyroid is fine
It's been 8-9 weeks sincemy cat started the thyroid food and her blood test came back normal. She took to the food immediately and I have had no issues keeping her on it. I hope it will continue to work. by on 11/18/2017
Wet food
In response to earlier post about cat only eating wet food from newly opened can: on second serving of the can, try making it soupy by mixing in some water. Works for my cat. by on 05/13/2017
Smaller cans?
My 13 year old cat has been on Y/D food for a couple of years, and has now lost interest in the wet food except when I first open the can. I notice someone else has that same problem. A newly opened can interests her greatly and she will eat 2-3 tablespoonfuls, but after a can (well sealed) has been in the refrigerator for a day or two she loses interest. I would be interested in smaller cans if they were available. by on 03/17/2017
Bill is alive and well after 4 years !
When I took Bill into the vets, I was thinking he was near death. He had always maintained a weight of 15 pounds, and was now down to 7. After putting him on YD , 6 weeks later he was 12 pounds, and he has maintained for almost 5 years. His tumor shrunk. Now I am seeing a growth in it again, and will take him in for a visit to doc Colleen, but I tell you, the Y/D has worked great for our boy ! We are on a fixed income and the coupons when we can get them really help, but if I have to go with out steak, I sure will to keep my boy Bill alive and well ! by on 01/03/2017
A very helpful product
Our calico cat, Fancy, age 13 is doing very well on the Hill's thyroid diet. She has gained a half pound. She does not care for the canned food, but loves the dry food. I have used Hill's food for our cats for many years with good success. by on 11/22/2016
Update: 4yrs on y/d, now nearly 21 years old! WOW!
I wrote a review (CathysCat) for this dry food two years ago for my 19-year-old cat, after having used the y/d for almost two years. Just wanted to update that she is still holding her own at nearly 21 years old, and has been eating the y/d dry exclusively for nearly four years. I am amazed at how effective this food has been at maintaining her quality of life with hyperthyroidism. Other modifications we've made for living with our old cat are: She sleeps deeply and likes to choose a brand new dedicated bedding/spot every few weeks (quirky!), so we just use a new shallow cardboard box and fresh bed linens/towels each time. We have modified her litterbox setup so she has an easier time getting in/out, no hood, scoop it daily, and have a gate that keeps the dogs away so she can have more privacy. We add cat-attracting specialty litter to the regular scoopable litter to make it a positive experience for her when she goes (she likes it!). We've added quilted steps up to the spot where she eats (away from the dogs' reach). by on 11/02/2016
My cats love it and it works
I bought this a few years ago for my then senior citizen tabby male cat. He did well on it and liked it. Now my next in line senior is using it. She was very happy to switch to Y/D (dry and wet). This is a great solution to the condition and avoids all the difficulties with other options. by on 10/21/2016

Our cat likes the new food and has been gaining weight. Her energy has improved. This has been an easy fix for her thyroid problem. by on 08/04/2016
Saved our cat!
This product prevented our having to take invasive measures to improve our cat's health; she is one who absolutely won't take oral medication. Though it took some time (over a month) to get her switched over, it was well worth it. She was reluctant to eat it at first - she is a very suspicious cat and doesn't like anything new. But we slowly reduced her former food as we mixed in the y/d, and she finally accepted it. She gradually regained the weight she had lost and is healthy and normal. So thankful for this product!! by on 07/09/2016
Medically stsbilized our cat
" Miss Kitty was losing weight . After testing, we found out she has a thyroid problem. Changing her diet to y/d, stabilized her thyroid levels. Now at 17 yrs old, she's as healthy as a kitten with no need of medication. by on 07/09/2016
It works, it REALLY works!!!
Recently I adopted a cat from a local shelter and was told she was happy and healthy. A few weeks later, after noticing some unusual behavior, I took my new kitty to the vet for a wellness check. The doctor checked her over and took some blood. The next day I got a shocking call, my kitty was NOT well. There were a few choices of how to medicate and the one I chose was a special prescription diet. I used Hill's Prescription Diet y/d Thyroid Care Original Dry Cat Food. After less than a week, I noticed her symptoms lessen and she is now a truly happy and healthy cat and it's all due to Hill's Prescription Diet y/d Thyroid Care Original Dry Cat Food. Thank you Hill's for creating a food that healed the new love of my life! by on 07/09/2016
Excellent Results!
Although I'm not allowed to mention medical conditions, let me just say that my cat's health has improved dramatically within a month of starting to eat (exclusively) Hill's Y/D dry and canned foods. I'm very pleased and relieved to see my cat looking and feeling SO much better than he did. by on 07/09/2016
It has worked
I switched from medication to y/d cat food and my cat's blood work has been fine. It took time for her to adjust to her new food but all seems ok now. by on 06/29/2016

My Review
I persevered with this approach for my cat for just over one year. If anything I nearly lost my cat because the food did nothing. It was the only option since he reacted badly to the medication. Fortunately he is now on a different medication. Hills yd a waste of money and on hindsight I should have taken notice of similar experiences for others. by on 04/22/2016
A new lease on life!!
This product has made my cat healthy again! His thyroid levels have returned to normal and his coat is nice and silky again. He likes the dry food and I follow the recommendations on the bag for serving portions. This is the perfect alternative to some other options I was given for treatment. My pet and I are happy! by on 02/12/2016
Glad for this product
My cat was diagnosed with borderline thyroid difficulties a couple of years ago. I am very grateful that there was a dietary treatment available, so that we didn't have to jump right into meds/surgery/etc. It's been about two years now, and my cat's thyroid levels are maintaining in the borderline healthy range. Thanks for developing the Y/D product! by on 09/26/2015
Fabulous!!
I cannot imagine having to medicate my 18 year kitty 2 times daily ;/ It would be way too stressful for both of us! Y/D is a miracle for us! Thanks HIlls :) by on 09/25/2015
effective for thyroid problems

Bear
my Bear Baby liked the food. It got to where I couldn't afford the food and changed to pills. He really hates that. But I did like the food it was easier. thank you Martha Kent by on 09/18/2015
My cat LOVES this stuff!
My 18-yr. old cat was diagnosed with a thyroid condition and her vet recommended Hill's Science Y/D Prescription Diet food for her. It has improved her health, resulted in weight gain and, best of all, she loves it! Yes it does have a bit of a strong(er# odor, but what cat food doesn't? And it is pricier, but she and her health are worth every penny. I would highly recommend this and other Hill's Science Diet food to all pet #cats AND dogs) owners! by on 09/16/2015
Cat gaining weight
Have a 17 year old cat and was diagnosed with a thyroid condition. She had lost quite a bit of weight. y/d was recommended by the vet and she has gained her weight back and is now doing quite well. by on 09/16/2015
Awesome product for thyroid in cats
My cat was 10 lbs and in 3 months got down to a little under 5. The vet put her on the Y/D product and within 2 months she was back up at her healthy 10 lbs with a beautiful shiny coat and kitten attitude, even though she is 12. by on 09/14/2015
This product is a blessing to my cat and to me.
My cat isn't the nicest cat in the world. She didn't have the greatest start in life and was abandoned by her former owner. I took her in and accepted her on her own terms. A couple of years ago she was prescribed y/d, since trying to medicate her would be very difficult for her and for me. She liked it from the start and is doing well on it. What would be helpful to me is if Hill's came out with a y/d treat. Just a little something different for these y/d kitties. Thanks to you for making y/d. It made caring for my special needs kitty stress free for her and for me. by on 09/13/2015
This product really works
The treats for this specific condition are very difficult to find and or purchase. I would love to be able to purchase them for my cat so he may have at least a small variety other than just the food. I have purchased the wet food , however, it varies in consistency in moisture. He vary seldom will eat the wet food, especially when it's drier than normal. Improving the taste of this specific food may make it more appealing for cats as mine simply eats it because he has to. I really appreciate when you provide coupons as they are vary rare and hard to find. I am very grateful that you have a food that I can use for his condition as an alternative, so I can avoid putting him on medication for the rest of his life. by on 09/08/2015
y/d Thyroid Cat Food
The y/d for thyroid has been very helpful for Foster. He would not take the pills, and we fought constantly. We switched to the dry and the wet food. Although he will never be the big cat (17lbs) he was, the improvement in his condition was more than I thought possible. We really thought he was a goner. So, I would definitely recommend to anyone who has a cat with this condition, to try either or both of your thyroid food. by on 08/03/2015

This food works very well for our cat.
Our cat has been on this food for 6 months and is doing very well. He likes both the wet and dry. As suggested in another review, we do mix the wet with some water as it is very dense. It is wonderful not to have to worry about giving him medication. Thanks for having it available. by on 04/20/2015
Poor quality dry food/moderate quality wet food
The vet suggested starting with this food before moving onto the medication. There was no change in the T4 numbers after a month of use and the liver numbers were worse. My cat HATED the food and it was all I could do to get him to eat it. He is a tiny 6 lbs right now so we cannot afford for him not to eat. I tried the gradual switch over and was successful getting him to eat it about half the time. He also hated Hill's C/D when he was prescribed that several years ago. Additionally, the ingredients for the dry food, the one he actually preferred, are all by products and fillers. I do understand that many food sources have a lot of iodine therefore some things must be limited (fish), but why can't he have real chicken and not by products? The wet food has a better list of ingredients, however even though water is listed as the first ingredient many cans were the consistency of wet sand. I had to put water on it for him to even consider eating. My cats all enjoy food with gravy and this would have been much more successful if we would have had at least some gravy. I use another HIll's prescription food or another cat and this variety is quite good (as evidenced by the ingredient list that includes real meat). I know this is a relatively new product but it will not work if they are not willing to eat it and I am very nervous about all of the by products and fillers (mill run??). by on 03/12/2015
UpstateNYLady
My hyperthyroid cat loves the dry diet. It stabilized his bodily functions in less than 8 hrs after starting it. I also give him the canned Y/d as a treat and he loves that too. He's even started to gain weight! Thanks for your caring response to my email about feeding guidelines. This is a great product! by on 02/14/2015
Choice of a softer dry food.
My cats like the dry food but since they are both 15+ they have a hard time chewing and this sometimes leads to vomiting. Also notice that their stool is very hard. The food has been beneficial in treating their thyroid condition but I would like to see more variety. by on 01/23/2015
YD really works
Our otherwise healthy, 12 year-old cat was getting thin and listless. The veterinarian diagnosed her with a thyroid condition and told us about three options. The least invasive was Hills' YD cat food. After being on the food for several weeks, her thyroid hormone levels started to decline to normal. Today, we feed her both the YD wet and dry foods, depending on her mood. Her thyroid levels are normal and she is in great health. Thank you for saving our cat's life--without the improvement in her thyroid hormone levels, she would most certainly not be with us today. by on 12/29/2014
My cat is better!
When we adopted our cat, he was old and slow moving and getting thinner every day. We were worried and took him to the vet had us put him on a strict diet to help with his thyroid condition. Now Tiger moves quickly, he's gained weight and his eyes are big and open. It's like a new cat and we are very happy. We love him and are grateful he's healthier and we can enjoy him longer. by on 11/03/2014

Yay, no more forcing pills down her throat. Just fed my cat the YD food and her levels were good. by on 10/27/2014
Works great in regulating thyroid levels
I could not get my cats thyroid levels under control on medication, however I was able to once I put him on a y/d diet plan. My only complaint is that when I feed the recommended amount for a 7 pound cat a 4 pound bag lasts 3 weeks. This makes for a very expensive meal plan. by on 10/15/2014

My 17 1/2 year old cat enjoys this dry food and even more important, the food is completely responsible for normalizing his thyroid function numbers. by on 10/04/2014

more variety, like treats, needed
It is very hard in a multiple pet home to keep your cat away from every other food available and then to not be able to feed her any treats, is not good. We come to make her feel like the can food is a treat to her, which makes it a little easier, but I do wish you could make treats. by on 09/28/2014

Our cat likes the dry food
I have a senior cat who can be finicky. The Hill's Prescription Diet y/d Feline Thyroid Health was suggested by my vet. In my experience my cat preferred the dry variety vs the wet food and seems to be thriving on this recent change to Hill's prescription diet. I will continue to buy this brand! by on 09/17/2014
Good Short Term Option for Cats with a Thyroid Condition
My cat was diagnosed with a thyroid condition in June 2013. All other medicines were not working and she went from 12 lbs down to 5 lbs. In June of 2014 I tried Prescription Diet y/d as the last option. I introduced her to the food directly with no gradual step down from her old food. In one month she gained 1 lb and her nervous behavior has subsided. This was great news as she looks healthier and seems happy. The only drawback is that there is only 1 variety of y/d so she is now getting bored eating the food after 3 months. I tried the wet food option of y/d and it is very dry as a wet food option and does not hold up well after several hours in the bowl (gets too dried out to eat). So if you are looking for a good a good short term solution, y/d dry for cats is a good alternative. by on 09/14/2014

YD RX
My cat is getting older and has a thyroid condition and has lost a lot of weight. He's not going to live a very long life, but YD has helped him put weight on and is definitely doing better. YD will give him more time with us and I'm thankful for that. I really could use more coupons to keep the price for the product more manageable. by on 09/06/2014
Still need to attempt to improve palatability, average.
This is a great novel prescription diet that gives most of my clients a more feasible treatment alternative. Most cats are difficult to administer tablets and orals in general so this diet gives us a more accepted form of therapy. There are still some that do not eat the product so improved palatability trials are needed. The product is very effective if patient consumes and client prevents consumption of other food. Overall great product. by on 09/05/2014

Amazing food that changed my cats health!
By simply changing the food that 8 year old Lexie eats, her body seems completely healthy again. She likes the food and seems to be thriving. It's been 3 months so far, and all is well. I will continue feeding her this diet. by on 08/28/2014

This product works
Our vet recommended this product as an alternative for Hyper Thyroid for our cat and it seems to be working. The medicine she was taking caused her to much stress so we were relieved when she took to the dry food. She is doing great after her first bag. by on 08/16/2014
Excellent product
My 13 year old cat has developed thyroid problems and is doing very well on Thyroid Care. It is such a relief not to have to give him pills in order to keep him healthy. He also has dental problems and was originally on Oral Care but now he can't have it any longer. It would be wonderful if Thyroid Care could be modified to a larger kibble to help take care of my cat's dental issues as well. Thank you Hills! by on 08/12/2014
This product is great.

My cat is doing much better since being on this cat food. I can definitely tell a difference from now and when he was eating whatever he wanted to eat. His overall health is so much better. I just would not have realized how it would help him. thanks so much by on 07/26/2014
No more weight loss!
Our 14 year old loves this product and she has stopped losing weight. She still has plenty of energy but she's not zipping around the house like a Tasmanian devil and doesn't live at the water bowl. Thank you! by on 07/26/2014
Great option for thyroid control
After the thyroid medication caused liver issues with my senior cat, we switched to the y/d food to control his hyperthyroidism. Within a month, his thyroid was back to normal levels. His eyes are clearer, his coat softer, fuller, and shinier. He has a lot more energy, and his attitude has improved. After 2 months, his weight has maintained, and hopefully he can start bulking up. He enjoys the food, but does seem to get bored with it. We give him the wet y/d food once a day to switch it up. by on 07/25/2014
Thyroid levels are in normal range
My senior female cat did not do well on the thyroid oral medication. She had bad side effects. The radioactive iodine therapy is extremely expensive and not an option either. But I'm happy to say that after being on this diet for 3+ months, her thyroid levels have returned to the normal range. She eats the wet and dry Y/D. She's gained a few pounds back and her spirits are up. Her coat is shiny and soft and she even plays again. This food is expensive so I downloaded some coupons to offset the price. I'd recommend both the dry and wet y/d. It works! by on 07/24/2014
It really works
My hyper thyroid cat had been in a shelter for weeks: seemed ok and pretty mellow but, eventually -- after some bizarre behavior and then some tests--turns out he is hyperthyroid. The kibbless are all he gets because he doesn't like the canned food. My second cat is not hyperthyroid but the vet says it's OK for her to eat the same thing and she's thriving. The problem is finding it in a store-- THAT'S WHY I ORDER ONLINE WITH YOU! great service,, pleasant and knowledgeable agents. Thank you by on 07/09/2014
overall good
My cat was diagnosed with a thyroid condition, cats typically don't like change but my girl adjusted and it has stablized her condition. I also feed her the can version of y/d as well. Although, I use coupons printed from the Hills website - I would like to see if there are any other cost savings for this product. Are there any recommended treats for cats with thyroid condition? by on 07/02/2014
Very Helpful for my Cat's Medical Condition
I started using Hill's Prescrption Diet as recommended (prescribed) by my vet. It has made a drastic improvement in my cat! She is back to her usual happy self! The only issue I would say is she doesn't seem to like the taste. At first she refused to eat the food but started to once she realized she wasn't getting anything else. by on 06/27/2014
This product is a magic cure!
Only a few weeks after beginning to eat this food (exclusively), my cat's thyroid level is now normal. I no longer have to worry about making the decision to subject my cat to surgery or radiation therapy . . . a great relief. by on 06/26/2014
need Romanesque it in flavors.
My cat gets bored with it only being one flavor. You need to do three different flavored at the cost of this food by on 06/25/2014
Great product helps my cat
My cat has elevated thyroid. The vet prescribed y/d and it has cleared up the condition. She loves eating it and her appetite seems more normal now. by on 06/24/2014
Life Saving Food!
MD then YD canned cat food has saved my kitty's life! He is doing so much better with it than before. He is 16 years old and we are heading to 17! by on 06/19/2014
This food saved my cat from taking thyroid medicine or
My cat had extremely high thyroid levels and had lost a lot of weight. Within 3 months of eating the y/d food his weight returned and his thyroid level is back to normal. by on 06/15/2014
This product is very convenent!
It is so much easier to give my cat this food than it is to give her a pill twice a day. We measure a certain amount everyday and leave it for her to enjoy at her convenience. by on 06/12/2014
This is a very good product.
Our cat was recently diagnosed with a thyroid issue. This is the first prescription food any of our cats have ever eaten. The small size makes it easier to eat and digests faster. We also supplement this with the wet food as a "treat" (a small portion of the can divided throughout the day). by on 06/08/2014
Hill'sยฎ Prescription Dietยฎ y/dยฎ Feline Thyroid Health
I personally love this product. It is a lot easier to give my cat her medication when it is in a food form like this. My only complaint is that it is kind of pricey, but I don't know how much the actual medication would cost in comparison. by on 06/05/2014
My cat likes both the wet & dry thyroid product.
I was surprised, but my cat started eating the wet & dry thyroid product right away. She seems to be feeling better. by on 05/21/2014
Good product but costly...
The product has helped my cat w/her thyroid issues but it really puts a strain on an already tight budget. I love my cat so I'll do what's necessary to keep her healthy. by on 05/18/2014
Expensive but worth it
My neighbors domesticated a feral cat and then moved away. The cat kept returning to the neighborhood from about 15 miles away (4 times) so I adopted him or maybe the reverse. Amazing solid black cat, Rex -- not sure of his age but he's no spring kitten. Took him to the vet for a checkup and discovered hyperthyroidism. Didn't like the 3 options the vet gave me for managing the malady so with google's help I discovered Hill's Y/D. I asked the vet why he didn't suggest it and he said cats won't eat the stuff but if I wanted to try it he would give me a free sample. P.S. My cat loved it right from the get go, has been on it for a year and a half and has maintained his weight, shiny coat and high normal thyroid readings. The vet is amazed and cites my cat as his first success story with Y/D. by on 05/17/2014
Better than giving my cat medication
So happy to be able to feed a tasty meal to my cat instead of having to give her a pill. It keeps her thyroid normal. by on 05/09/2014
very palatable
Both canned and dry Y/D is very palatable for all 3 of my cats. This food has managed to control thyroid levels for my 15 year old cat for 2 years now with out the use of medication. by on 05/06/2014
LAB VALUES ARE NORMAL
My cat had hyperthyroidism and was prescribed this food. His lab values were great at his last checkup! by on 04/27/2014
Works! Quickly, too!
Mid March I noticed a lump in my Snuggles throat - so I scheduled a vet visit. They did blood work to find hyperactive thyroid. I immediately began to feed Snuggles Hills Prescription Diet for Thyroid to both my cats. It took a day or two for them to realize that this was the only food they were going to get - once they figured that out, they began eating normally again. It has been challenging for both the cats and me to not feed them anything else. BUT it is worth it. Follow up blood work was completed this past week - Mid April and I am pleased to know that the thyroid results are back to normal. Pleasantly surprised that it worked and didn't need to give meds twice a day! We will be continuing this approach! :-) by on 04/26/2014
Easiest way to control thyroid levels
This food is crazy expensive, especially because we have to feed it to all 3 of our cats. However it has literally been a life saver for our one kitty that has has a hyperactive thyroid. His levels have been great since starting this food and all 3 cats love the taste. If your cat has this condition and less expensive options don't work for you, I highly recommend this food. by on 04/23/2014
KEEPS MY PET ALIVE
I am very grateful to have the Y/D Prescription diet for my cat Pickles. He was diagnosed with over active thyroid about 2 yrs ago and did not respond well to oral medication. The y/d formula had just come out and he was one of first cats to try it. He was wasting away and I had no way to help him. He eats the dry everyday with a spoon full of the wet at night. This keeps him from starving to death (literally) There was no way to keep up with his metabolism no matter how much he ate. Thank you for saving Pickles! He has been with us for 13yrs. And I plan on him being around for a long time to come : ) by on 04/21/2014
Our cat, Soxie, love the product.
While he won't take meds, he eats the yd food eagerly. He is regaining weight and appears healthy again!richard22 by on 04/17/2014
so far product seems to be effective and it is certainly
Our cat switched over to this product w/o problem. Her thyroid has not yet been retested but she has maintained her weight. The only issue is that her stools are smaller and harder. by on 04/16/2014
Took care of hyperactivity
The YD formula helped my cat calm down a great deal with no medication. Her behavior was quite aggressive and the Y/D helped her calm down and be herself once again. The product did what it was supposed to and I endorse its use. by on 03/22/2014
Life saving product
Sophie had very high thyroid levels and being an elder cat, she was getting very skinny and not feeling well. After two weeks on y/d prescription diet her levels fell into normal range and ever since she has been gaining weight and behaving like her old (younger) self. by on 03/21/2014
My cat actually likes this food.
When my cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, we began the oral medication. Unfortunately the pill was very bitter and he would find a way to spit it out. I got a bag of this and he seems to like it, which I would have never guessed because he has always been so particular about his food. by on 03/20/2014
Good value for specialty perscription diet
I am happy that Science Diet offers this product, and I have seen positive results after feeding this to my cat. Although the cat did not really like the taste at first, she seems to have accepted it now and is eating it well. I wish that Science Diet would offer a y/d treat also. by on 02/27/2014
Manages my cats Thyroid problems
I almost lost my cat Phoebe when she got sick from methimazole to manage her thyroid problems. Now that we have stopped the medication and give her Hill's Prescription Diet y/d Feline Thyroid Health Dry Cat Food, she is feeling better again. And she likes this food! It's pricy, but it's worth it! by on 02/27/2014
Awesome food!
I have an older cat w hypothyroid and could not get him regulated w the pills. I decided to try this food and was very happy I did! Within 2 to 3 weeks he went back to his normal self again. He no longer seems real hungry all the time n has gained all the weigh he had lost back again. This morning he was chasing his tail like a kitten! Thanks hill's for making such a great food. Oh and I heard cats don't like the food very much but that is not the case w my cat! He loves the food! So if u have a thyroid cat try this u won't be sorry! by on 02/16/2014
It's doing what it is supposed to do!
My 12 year old tabby cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. The prospects were dim, radiation treatment, surgery, a pill a day for the rest of his life (ever try to give a cat a pill?) or this food. 3 weeks into the treatment and he looks and acts like himself again! He's gained some weight back and hopefully the bloodworm scheduled for next week confirms what my eyes see! by on 02/15/2014
Limited product with too many restrictions
We have just started using this product as we are not able to take advantage of any other alternative treatments for our hyperthyroid cat. She seems to be losing weight and is throwing up much more. We would like to see treats and an array of products in this portfolio for variety sake. She has always been given treats and had a varied diet. If we had several items to give her as replacements she might adapt better. Limiting her to small crunchy kernels for the rest of her life does not seem fair or kind. Any suggestions would be appreciated. by on 02/10/2014
She HATES it
While she LOVES the Y-D wet food, she refuses the kibble and I totally understand why. It stinks nasty and I'm sure it tastes nasty too. She just tries to "cover it up" like it's in a cat box. Please fix this. Thank you by on 02/10/2014
The product does what it says
In recent months during a routine wellness check my veterinarian informed me that my 11 year old kitty was having issues with her thyroid. With several treatment options to consider I settled on Hill's y/d Prescription Diet for her. Both canned and dry versions were introduced to her and in the weeks and months following she ate y/d exclusively. Follow up blood tests show her thyroid levels have returned to normal. She not only tolerates the food well she seems to enjoy it very much especially her morning portion of the canned variety. She meows quite vigorously as I prepare her dish eagerly waiting for me to put it down on the floor for her to enjoy. Thank you Hills for this fine product that lives up to it's claims. I can look forward to many more years of healthy, happy living for my sweet little kitty. by on 02/05/2014
Life Saver
My sweet Little baby developed an over active thyroid and lost a considerable amount of weight , the vet started her on meds and as it would be she is the 1% of felines that can not tolerate this medication. Her vet then placed her on the y/d dry and wet food , she loved it , in fact both my girls loved it ( my other baby gets feed a little something alone too ! ) She gained weight and it helped level her out some , y/d saved my Furbabies life , it doesn't get better than that !! by on 02/04/2014
Good Quality
My cat just tipped into the hyperthyroid range and instead of the dreaded daily pill(s) we thought we would give y/d a shot. We have 2 cats so we knew it would be a bit more difficult as our hyperT cat could not have ANY of the other cat's kibble but we were managing well. Unfortunately the cat does not really like the taste and will only eat about 1/4 cup of food a day (he should be getting 1/2-3/8 cup) so we have to switch to the pills. His blood work was coming back great on the y/d though - we just wished he would like it! by on 01/31/2014
Fast Health Improvement, Great product. Thank you.
We are close to week 3 on the y/d diet dry food. My cat is almost 16 years old and was diagnosed with pre- hyperthyroidism. Medications made her sick so we opted the food route. She is responding very well to this diet. Gaining weight back, has boundless amounts of energy and is acting way younger than her years and has stopped vomiting. She likes the food alot. We are grateful because quality of life is very important. Even though it is a little expensive you end of saving money because you are not medicating twice a day which can add up to more cost wise. Hills also has a coupon you can get for this food on there website. Thank you Hills for making a great product. by on 01/31/2014
My sweet 16 yr old Maine Coon has become Hyperthyroid
After Willie Woo's bloodwork, the vet said lets try this food first to see if we can avoid pills everyday. ( I'm sure you know how hard it is to give a cat a pill) He was starving all the time, crying and wondering all around the house like he was lost or in pain but after one day on this food, he has settled down and now about a month later, much better. I am waiting for him to gain back some weight and he should be good to go. He also eats some of the canned y/d too. The y/d dry food is so expensive though and on a fixed income, its a real concern. Especially because I have a dog on meds with a heart condition and 2 other aging cats. I am still glad to see my big boy feeling better. by on 01/24/2014
This food changed our lives!
Being able to feed this food has simplified and de-stressed our lives! We don't have to medicate our cat 2 times daily :) She loves the food... so we love the food! CleoCatra has been on Hill's Prescription diets since she was 1 year old. We are 100% believers in the results from these foods. The c/d kept her urinary issues in check for 11 years, then as she aged and her kidney values went up - the k/d brought them back into the normal ranges! Finally at 16 years old, her hypothyroid is being treated with y/d. Don't know what we would have done without Hill's! by on 01/23/2014
very picky eater.
after all she has been thru I am happily surprised that she eats and enjoys this dry food. seeing that she has to eat it ....this is a wonderful thing. very important to keep it closed with the zip seal so it stays fresh. she knows when it is stale and will not eat it. by on 01/05/2014
This food is working in place of pills
Our 13 yo female Siamese needs this food for hyperthyroidism and it is working very well so far. She has regained weight and appears to feel much better than before treatment. She enjoys the wet and dry foods. by on 01/02/2014
Trying to control thyroid
Have a yo-yoing cat on thyroid meds for about three months. A Vet suggested the y/d dry food as a way to even out the blood test results. The draw back was problems with digestion, however, my cat picked the y/d out of the old cat food and left the old in the bowl. So I switched over completely to the y/d and she seems to be thriving on it. The next blood check up is in two weeks and we will find out then. The main drawback is the cost of the y/d, but I have used the coupons on your website so that helps some. by on 12/27/2013
Only product of it's kind
y/d is the only food product my cat can eat but he's become healthier and bigger. Because he's healthy now, he does not eat as much so I save on the food bill now as well. It saves me from having to give him medication twice daily and I am thankful for that. by on 12/19/2013
Product worked very well
This product worked exceptionally well for a hyperthyroid cat that would otherwise need medication. He was a little wary of the taste at first but being hyperthyroid, he soon became accustomed to it. by on 12/19/2013
Newcomer to Hill's Diet yd
I have just discovered my cat Ruby (10 yrs old) has an over active Thyroid. My vet recommended different options to manage her health, however going through all this I opted for Hills prescription diet yd thyroid health - wet food & dried food as not sure which one she will take too will have to wait and see. Having scoured through all different websites on this, I came a bit confused if I chose the right option for Ruby as all information varied considerably especially by Dr Experts !! So having gone on this site and read some really positive reviews I feel I made the right decision on giving Ruby this food. As this all new for me and Ruby to deal with and having read others are experiencing the same problem with there beloved cats it's good to know it can be stabilised but we will have to see as it's early days yet. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. by on 11/23/2013
easy transfer from old food.
Thrived well on y/d. Ate y/d as his meal and also used it as his treat, since he could not have any other food. no more pills to buy or forgetting to give them twice a day. by on 10/01/2013
This product works great.
We struggled for months to find a food that our cat could eat and keep in her stomach, she has even put some weight back on. Hopefully after this food gets established the price goes down. by on 09/22/2013
This product has great benefits
Since my 11 year old cat has be diagnosed with thyroid problems, we have given her this food. She immediately began to feel better, her coats looks great, and she has more energy. by on 09/21/2013
My cat hasn't looked or felt this good in years!
Since he's been on y/d my 12 year old boy who was sleeping constantly, struggling with a terrible coat, having muscle spasms, and not eating, Thumper has made a 180 degree turn around. The food apparently tastes so good I can hide his pill in there and he's gaining all of the weight he had lost. Working in the animal care industry I've always been skeptical of science diet and I now have no idea why! y/d has been a blessing for us! We won't use anything else. by on 09/18/2013
It works...but so expensive!
PROS: My cat lost alot of weight and was miserable. Thyroid level was 23 and within 4 weeks of being on this food his Thyroid level dropped to 6- so it is almost back to normal. He is happier and gaining weight. He has more energy and his fur looks shiny and healthy. He took to the taste of it immediately with no problems. I also utilize the can version in the AM to supplement the Dry. CONS: Cost. This food is mega expensive. I am not sure that I will even be able to afford to keep my cat on it due to the cost which is very disheartening because it works. by on 09/09/2013
five stars
this food has saved our 15 yr old cats life. he was diagnosed with extremely HIGH Thyroid results several months ago. this YD food has brought his thyroid level down to almost a normal range. Giving our cat thyroid meds in pill form isn't an option at this point so we decided to give YD a try & it has done an outstanding job of moving his overactive thyroid closer to where it's suppose to be. Thank You Science diet! by on 08/16/2013
Miraculous
After three weeks on Hill's y/d dry cat food (along with a couple of daily spoonfuls of y/d canned food), my senior Siamese cat's thyroid hormone levels are again within normal ranges. She would have had to undergo RAI treatment otherwise, as medication made her ill. She is now beginning to regain some weight and regrow the hair she lost when she became acutely hyperthyroid. This is a true miracle, and I am very grateful that this food is available. She really seems to enjoy it, too. by on 08/14/2013
YD FOOD
MY 13YR MALE WAS LOSING WEIGHT, URINATING TOO OFTEN. AFTER FEEDING HIM YD FOR 1 1/2 MONTHS HE HAS GAINED HIS WEIGHT BACK AND I CAN ONLY HOPE THIS PRESC. FOOD IS THE ANSWER TO HIS THYROID PROBLEM. THANK YOU FOR THIS PRODUCT. by on 08/07/2013
Kept my cats thyroid in check
If this food is fed exclusively it does a great job of keeping the thyroid levels in the normal range. The flavor seemed to be iffy for my cat. She ate it, but didn't really seem to like it. This would be absolutely perfect if they can find a way to make the flavor better. My other cats didn't want it either. BUT it does keep her thyroid levels normal and I don't have to give her any medications. That is a BIG plus. The cost of the food ends up being cheaper than the medication was. I recommend using this. by on 06/29/2013
I'm a believer
My 16 year old Molly showed slightly abnormal thyroid and kidney functions on a recent blood test. The vet suggested y/d. He told me this food would be good for both conditions. I was a little skeptical- my cat would only eat one kind of dry cat food previous to this. I started mixing in a little of the dry y/d with her regular food. After a couple of weeks she was eating the y/d without her old food mixed in! An unexpected benefit of the diet change- Molly had been throwing up fairly often- I thought she was trying to pass a hair ball, except there was rarely any hair. After switching to the y/d, she stopped thowing up! Whether that was due to an improvement in her thyroid/ liver function with the new food or just the quality of the new food I can't be sure, but it works!! I'm a believer!!! by on 04/02/2013
works well if your cat eats it
my 14 year old cat has thyroid problems and has list a lot of weight. the vet said to try this out and see if it would help her. well my cat is a fussy eater and did not eat it this is a common problem. so we then have to give her a pill every night not what you would want to do before bed. by on 03/05/2013
Worked wonders on my cat.
My 14 year old cat had thryoid health problem. He was losing weight and always trying to find find and eat food. He has been on this for six months. He has gained weight and eating very well. Yes it is bit expensive but its for my cat. by on 01/22/2013
Thanks to Dr Bob for Prescribing this food
My 19yr old Sassy girl was losing weight quickly. She was diagnosed with a Throid problem. She would not take medication and Dr. Bob said she would not survive an operation.. He recomemded Feline Thyroid Health Diet.. I took her for a follow up blood test yesterday and her levels are now within normal range.....She started on the wet food about 3 months ago and now I give her the dry ONLY... much better for her teeth.... I only wish Hill's had prescription coupons to help with the cost.. by on 01/11/2013
Excellant product!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been feeding this food to my cat for 9 months his condition has much improved since being on this special food great product !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by on 10/31/2012
Excellent results!!!!
My 13+ yr old male cat Jeter was losing weight and seemed to be drinking a lot of water. Toward the end of August I noticed a slight head twitch like a seizure from time to time. I immediately took him to the Vet who was pretty sure from an exam that he had an enlarged thyroid. We did an entire blood work up including the thyroid. The thyroid came back elevated at 9.1 while all other bloodwork was normal. The Vet suggested we try the y/d diet only for 6-7 weeks then recheck the thyroid. Jeter prefers the dry food but eats a couple of teaspoons of wet food mixed with water per day. He eats between 1/2 - 2/3 cup of dry food per day. At his top weight he was 19.6 lbs. His weight in August was 13.6. He was initially tested on August 21st. He was retested on October 16th. WITH THE Y/D FOOD ONLY - his reading is now 2.3 which is within the normal range of .8 - 4.2. We were thrilled!!!!! He has more energy and there are no head twitches. He lost 2 ounces but we are hopeful he will put on a pound or so. He eats ONLY THIS FOOD. The Vet wants a retest in 6 months but expects the reading to come down further. I couldn't be more pleased and would HIGHLY recommend this food for any senior cat with thyroid issues!!!! by on 10/31/2012
