My chihuahua was 7lbs which was the perfect weight for his size. When he turned 8 years old he gained 7lbs. I took him to the vet and after running tests the doctor found that my furry baby had a thyroid issue. This meant he would have to lose the extra weight, maintain a healthy weight, and be on meds for life. My vet prescribed Hill's Prescription Diet Metabolic Weight Management Dry Dog Food and it worked! My dog lost the weight( back to 7lbs) and has been maintaining that weight since he started eating this food 5 years ago. It is worth the money and highly recommend this product.

Product used to smell nice even to me. Dogs liked it. Since my large bag ran out and the formula has changed the dogs won't eat it. They even vomit it up. Has no smell. No nice oils on it. Disappointing. Now I've had to change to another brand after many many years on this.

My dog refuses to eat the new formula. Even if I put the 2 side by side. The old one was dark in coils and smelt nice. The new formula looks cheap and has no smell. My dog keeps walking away from it. Been trying for a year because they changed the formula without telling anyone and I bought a huge bag as replacement.

I have been feeding my 2 dogs this food for years and they loved it. I recently received a bag of the new formula change and my dogs refuse to eat it. I have tried putting food toppers and chicken broth with no luck. Now I no longer have a dog food I can rely on.

I have been feeding Hills for years to my dogs & cats. When I took in a overweight Cocker with food allergies I knew what food was my choice. Not only has she loved the food, which for her in trouble anyway, she feels fuller and has great stools & coat. She seems to feel fuller, not so much begging, she has lost weight and has more energy. Hills is backed by science & research and I trust Hills to give my pets what they need. I have a 17 yr old dog that has eaten Hills his entire life and still has the energy he had when he was 4.

She was our first Beagle mix rescue (about 2 y.o.). She ballooned from 37# post-heartworm treatment and adoption to 50# in less than a year before we caught on to the fact that Beagles REALLY like to eat. (No - they really are not always starving to death, regardless of what kind of act they put on !) We spent probably 2 years trying to get her weight back down but couldn't seem to keep her satisfied. Our vet then said that he would prescribe Metabolic for her. In the space of maybe a year, she dropped back down to 42# and levelled out. Better yet, she was no longer begging for food constantly. She ate, and was satisfied. Great results. We kept her on it for the next 8 years til she passed. In extreme cases where nothing else has worked, I will recommend this product.

We have two large older dogs on this dog food. The twelve year old dog went from 122 down to 113 in two months. But our ten year old dog has not lost one single pound. She is still at 125 pounds and she was getting 4 cups a day and now 3.5 cups split into two meals. She is hungry and begging for more. Her name is Meatball. We feel so sorry for her but she HAS to lose weight somehow. This dog food is way to expensive not to work. But Crystal who is two years older and less active and gets more food has done great. She will be at her 90 pound goal in about 3 -4 more months.

It would be great if, when you have a dog that needs to be on a low fat diet, that you didn't have to sacrifice feeding them decent, actually good for them ingredients versus just filling them up with cheap/bad fillers. Ingredient list is awful.

I changed my long haired dachshund's food back in December 2017 after a vet visit and being told she was overweight; the vet suggested this food for her. My female dog (large mixed breed) only has 3 legs due to an hind leg amputation 3 years ago.....She is now almost 10 yrs old and has put on some extra weight she doesn't need.....My vet has told me that it's critical to keep her weight down because of her amputation, and recommended this food.....I am desperate for her to lose weight and most of the reviews on the food here sound good, so I wanted to give the food a try..........Vet suggested a gradual switch over from her her regular food.....At first, I only added a small amount to her old food.....She picked out all the pieces of her regular food and would not eat any of the Hills.....I tried this over and over again for about 2 weeks, she did the same thing every time--ate her old food, but left the pieces of Hills........I hate to give a bad review, because it could have worked, if she was willing to eat it.........However, she just refuses to eat it, no matter what I do.......My vet takes back prescription food if the dog won't eat it, so I'm lucky there, but what to do from here, I just don't know

5 years ago my little boston terrier mix breed was severely overweight. My vet recommended Metabolic dry food for her...she went from almost 40 pounds to 28 pounds in less than a month. I will never use anything else for her..and shes 16 years old. I highly recommend Hills food for the wellness of your pet.

My beagle, Hallie, has been on this for a few years and she has lost weight and is so healthy. She was a rescue so we think she's 13 or 14 but acts like a much younger dog. She really likes the food and the larger size kibble gives her a good chew. I also use it as a low fat training treat: put some in a small pie pan with a little water and pop it in the freezer. After a while I put the separated kibble in a bag and keep it in the freezer. When I call my dogs to come get a "popsicle" they come quickly into the house and go the freezer and wait for their treat.

My Corgi Tali weighed in at a whopping 41 pounds. Our vet told me she needed to lose weight. I tried a national brand from the grocery store and after a full bag she showed not an ounce difference in her weight. At our next visit, our vet said Tali's weight was going to shorten her lifespan and prescribed the Metabolic weight formula. She is now 34 pounds and people now either ask if she's small for a Corgi or if she's a puppy (she'll be six in May)!!! If your dog has a weight problem, I highly recommend Hill's Science Diet.

Our vet prescribed this food for our dog because he was overweight following a surgery that kept him from being active for some time. We had been happy with our dog's other food, and were proud of how we had done our research to find him just the right food. The vet told us that we could go back to our old food once our dog had achieved his target weight. The results were amazing, and our dog did lose the weight. We got caught up in its success and never switched him back to his old food. I wish we had. Without going into details, let's just say that we have been put in a position of needing to examine all aspects of our dog's health, including diet and nutrition. After much research, we have come to the conclusion that there is a need to switch our dog to a food tailored to what dogs actuallly should be eating, as opposed to eating what should create results, such as weight loss. I would encourage all pet owners to learn as much as they can about what their dogs should be eating, what is healthy, and what the actual ingredients in the food are, and their impact on a dog's health. This is not an editorial review of this company's food and its effectiveness, but it is eye opening when you begin to learn what it is dog food companies are able to use as dog food.Read it! I reviewed this food six months ago and just wanted to give some additional feedback. Our Staffordshire Terrier is still being fed the Prescription Diet Metabolic Lamb and Rice Formula. Prior to this, he had been on the Metabolic Chicken Formula dry food, but we switched him due to some sensitivities to the chicken that were skin related. The chicken came in a larger kibble, and offered a more satisfying crunch. The lamb formula is a much smaller kibble, and he often times doesn't chew his food well. I have spoken to the Hills Science Diet folks and it doesn't sound like a larger lamb based kibble is in the cards for now. We do allow him some fresh string beans as a treat, but nothing else. He is fed twice a day and continues to maintain his recommended weight. There were several points that I wanted to bring up, in hopes of helping other dog owners. The food seemed very expensive to us in the beginning. Had we followed the feeding guidelines on the bag, it would have been not only astronomical, but he would have been overfed. If you are looking to help your dog lose weight, it is important to know what his recommended caloric intake is per day, based on your vet's assessment. Once you have that number, you can do the math and figure out what it is appropriate for your animal. The other point I would like to bring up is that our dog seemed to be hungry even after his meal, and would basically pick up his bowl and toss it as in a tantrum. We ended up playing around with the amounts we were feeding him, and found that, if we increased his morning feeding, he was not seeming as hungry at dinner. This is working. He gets 1 1/2 cups of food in the morning, and 1 1/8 cups of food at dinner. Based on these amounts, he is getting his appropriate amount of calories, and, although he his system works like clockwork and he knows exactly when it is 5 PM and time for dinner, he is satisfied. It took us several months to cost out the price of his old food versus the Science Diet food. We determined that, once the third bag of Science Diet food had been purchased, we had started seeing a savings. This food has been a blessing, and although it took some time, the benefits have been great. We have just started our younger dog, a pit bull terrier, on the Metabolic Chicken Weight Management/Mobility food, as she has had two CCL replacement surgeries in the past year. Will update on that later.

Our overweight dog tore his ACL in October and we wanted to see if losing the extra weight would have an impact and enable us to avoid surgery. Our vet advised us to try Hill's Metabolic food to help take the weight off. We followed the feeding recommendations and in 10 months he has lost 22 Lbs! He loves the food. Our once listless Beagle has renewed energy and looks great. You can tell he feels better too. The best part is the weight loss has alleviated the pain in his leg and he doesn't even limp. Our Vet Dr. Hirsch of Marmora, Cape May NJ offices recommended us to this a couple years back when our Black Lab about 8 years old. She has a hip -left leg problem since hurt it in side a dog cage (caught her leg in it) . At times she aggravates that condition and her weight only adds to it. Since we have been using this food--it seems as if it has strengthened her -on a couple occasions when she jumped off or miss jumped in jubilation's -re aggravated to the extent we might operate, she has in a few days come back to not limping again. We just know that the food has something to do with that. Thank you Hills for paying so much attention to the needs of our pets. They are our family of friends. My 9 year old Bichon has been on this food for about 6 years. It used to have a different name I believe. Although always a healthy eater, she barks with joy when I fix her bowl. Our seven year old Staffordshire Terrier suffered an injury that challenged his once very active life. He put on some weight due to his limited mobility. We loved our dog and were aware that he was not able to exercise as he had been doing, and that he had put on some weight, but thought that this would all change as he rehabilitated. It was tough to see him like this. Our veterinarian pointed out the fact that a dog is as at risk as we are when it comes to weight gain. He recommended the Hill's Prescription Diet Metabolic Canine food to assist in keeping him healthy. We did a lot of research and learned everything we could about this food. The ratings were excellent and we were very happy about the future. It took time and dedication, along with a continuing physical therapy regime, but our special boy is now back to his prescribed weight. He is back to his actice self. Mini Australian Shepherd that had to fight for food as pup since she was the smallest of the litter. As a result she developed a weight problem from constant hunger and over eating. With vets' advice we switched to metabolic weight Hills and she has lost the excess weight. Our vet put our 2 dogs on this diet last January. They both enjoy it . My only issue is the size of the food. I have an 8 pound Yorkie and a 21 pound Poodle. The Yorkie sometimes has a problem eating the big chunks. We actually break them in half and both dogs prefer the smaller size. I believe they really enjoy the food , flavor and are satisfied on this diet.

We are on the second month, since my veterinarian suggested we start the Metabolic diet. We have a dachshund and even a couple of pounds can mean huge problems, especially their backs. Previously, we had been feeding her Hills Since diet small bites. I don't think the food was as much of an issue, as our over indulgence with treats and bites of human food. Even when we felt we were "restricting" her, she gained another pound, much to our embarrassment. So she went from 3 lbs. to 4 lbs., overweight. That's when our vet took measures to intervene. At first, I was a little worried, first being, would she like the new food, second, the pieces were larger (not huge, just bigger than the small bites kibble). Followed the instructions for the seven day cross over. Each day age ate the small kibs first, then later went back for the Metabolic portion. By day seven, I was holding my breath. Soon I heard the satisfying "crunch crunch" of a meal being enjoyed! Success. Also, at the suggestion of our vet, when she wants a treat, we give her a few pieces of the food. Another success. (We tried a few samples of the Metabolic treats, but those were too big and hard, she would just hide them the first couple of tries and then just walk away when offered). We haven't been back for her weight check yet, but I can see the weight coming off. Her harness has had to be adjusted in and the definite dachshund shape is coming out, rather than being tubby from neck to tail. Her fur looks better, she is more active and she eats the food, happily. The other thing I've noticed, is that with other foods, she would eat the whole bowl in one go. Now she eats a bit and then stops. Comes back later for more. I think this food is more satisfying nutritionally.

When we adopted our 2 year old Beagle/Shepherd mix, Lola, she weighed a whopping 45.3 lbs. Wow. We have been trying for months to get rid of our GSD Major's loose and runny stools. Finally decided to change his kibble. Hill's id has made us and our 7 month pup very happy. My 10 year old dog "Sport" was considered overweight when we saw the vet over a year ago. Due to him having ACL issues in the past and having surgical repair, she reminded me the importance of weight control. We began him on the Metabolic diet - he ate it eagerly and over about a 4-5 month period, he was at his goal weight - i did then change him over to the Science Diet Light and he is still looking great. I feed the Metabolic to 3 dogs. I would love to buy the Mobility and Diet Metabolic but Science Diet is already very expensive-maintaining veteranary expenses for each doesn't help. If I could find something cheaper to keep weight off my dogs - I would change in a heartbeat.

My dachshund needed to loose about two pounds. Doesn't sound like much, but it is to a little one. My Vet carries Hills products. He recommended the dry metabolic. After about three months Micro is holding steady at a desirable 14 lbs. He loves Hill's and I plan to keep him on it for the rest of his life. Great product!!

While the food is excellent, I am very disappointed that you chose to change packaging to this heavy plastic bag that will never breakdown in landfills. I would prefer you improved the paper and plastic bag instead. Being on a fixed income with a 100 pound Golden to feed, I wish the food was less costly. It really hits the monthly budget.

Molly is a 9 year old beagle. She had a weight problem from the beginning. We have been feeding her weight management brand for a couple years. She has dropped about 7 to 8 pounds. She has a hard time keeping her weight down. This product has help her to keep the weight down and stay there. I would recommend this product to anyone who is having weight issues with their dogs.

My pet Sam is my best friend. A loyal,affectionate, smart amazing pet. Boarder collie/ lab mix. He is now 7 and we have had him since he was a pup. As he got older he started to put on weight. Before we knew it he was up to 105 lbs!! He has never eaten people food and always had plenty of excercise. After taking him to the vet he was put on thyroid medication and started on Hills Prescription Diet Metabolic in February of this year. Now into September his weight is down to 82.5lbs!!!!!!! We put our dog on Hill's Metabolic several months ago and never thought she would lose weight since nothing else had worked for her, but we gave it a try as she was carrying too much weight. We had tried everything to get her to lose weight. Well yesterday I took her in for a weigh-in since she was beginning to look so slim and we needed a new bag of food. Our vet was thrilled. Our dog Lexi is a longhaired miniature Dachshund that is nearly 9 yrs old. In March, 2013, she was overweight at 16.9 lbs. The vet put her on the dry Hills Prescription Diet. The weight loss was so dramatic. Her weight is quite stable at 11.5 lbs now. We recently introduced the canned wet chicken stew that we mix with the dry. What a happy little girl. She loves it! We have 2 Shelties. Ages 10 and 8. They both use Hill's Brand food. I would recommend this to any pet owner, however, I have not found the particular type of food we use at any pet store. We have to buy from the Vet. Would be nice to be able to buy elsewhere.

Since my dog has be eating the Metabolic dry dog food he has lost weight. Our Vet put my dog on this food because he was over weight, suffered from gas and stomach problems now he has no upset stomach with less gas, he is at a normal weight and over-all he is much happier and is more active. We have a 4 year old Golden and 8 year old Pointer/Border Collie Mix. Both of them should be 70 lbs per the vet. They transitioned to this food easily and it's been effective for both of them. 8 yo is now at her ideal weight and on maintenance, while the Golden still has about 7 lbs to go. Our vet commended us on following the feeding guidelines and making the accomplishments we did - Said we should be poster candidates as they have a lot of people who buy the food, but don't follow directions and their pets don't lose weight. Instead of dog treats, we give them frozen green beans, chunks of raw carrot and apple etc. per vets suggestion. Too many goodies and/or table scraps can put the weight on. We all become a bit more sedentary in the winter, but with this food it's easy to control weight. The cost can be prohibitive to some, but it really works. I wish the company would reduce the cost some to make it more affordable for everyone. Our vet is great about providing coupons and a buy 10 get 1 free program. It truly works!

My dog has been on Metabolic for 3 years now. He is a Golden Retriever who loves to "snack". The Vet recommended this product after he went over 90 pounds. His weight now around 84, but he is a big Golden. He eats 1 1/2 cups in morning and 1 1/2 in evening and doesn't realize that his" treats " are actually his Metabolic.

My dog just would not eat the food. She tried it the first night and spit it back out at me. I have a small dog and the food bits were too big for her. She also did not like the taste. She went outside and ate grass for four days. I called the vet on the fifth day of her not eating anything he told me to feed her the food she was eating before because it was unsafe to go that long and her not eating. I ended up taking the food back to get my money back. If you have a dog with a small mouth that need small bit's or a picky eater I would skip trying this food.

My dog has always been approximately ten pounds above what he should be since he's been a pup. I tried cutting back on his portions and exercised him more but couldn't seem to lose those stubborn pounds. So when the vet recommended this food and claimed that dogs have lost weight with the food, I was skeptical. I thought I would try it. After 1 month, my dog lost 3 pounds but still not enough for me to continue using the food. I took in a 10 year old Sheltie that weighed 32lbs. I am a veterinary technician and recommend the Metabolic diet to our clients all the time, because I believe in it and I have personally seen the positive results! My 8 yr. old beagle female, Katie, went on a diet with this food as prescribed by her vet. She loved the taste of it and it filled her up. Golden Retriever is not a fussy eater but would rather starve than eat this food. Went two days walking away from her bowl. I finally had to give up. Gave it to my puggle who ate it and later puked it up. Not very impressed with this product. It was a fresh bag from the local veterinarian.

I've been feeding our slightly fluffy lab the Metabolic Dry diet for over a year. The results are wonderful. Grace's weight loss has been slow, but steady. The dry seems very palatable and filling. My dachshund Camo is a tween doxie that got up to 25 lbs. Our vet suggested Metabolic wet to begin our weight loss journey. Over six months, Camo dropped to 17 lbs which we have pretty much maintained. We have switched him over to Metabolic Dry now for maintenance. This product works and Camo really enjoys the taste. My dog was extremely overweight for her size, she is suppose to weigh between 8-10 lbs and she got up to 16.9 lbs. We tried a variety of different "weight" loss dog foods, and nothing worked until now. She has been on the metabolic since February of this year, and she has lost 3 lbs. Doesn't seem like a huge amount, but for her size it is a lot, she is more active and actually plays with the other dogs, where before all she did was sit on the couch and watch. She has a few more pounds to go, and I know it doesn't work over night, but this is the only dog food that has actually worked for her.

Molly has had wonderful results with Metabolic dry prescription dog food. She has lost 18% of her body weight is just 5 months. She has increased energy, she is more mobile and much happier. My dog loves the taste of this food and he is slowly losing weight as well. However, if I had known it would improve his bowel movements so much I would have given it to him sooner! He gets the "messy bum" quite often and I've tried lots of different helpers including bulk fiber and pumpkin. Nothing helped significantly until he went on this food. Now he goes regularly and "solidly" without any difficulty. The food has a very strong smell for dry food, but again, my dog just loves it. I just think it is too expensive, especially since the 1st ingredient is chicken by-product meal (followed by wheat & corn). However, overall we are very satisfied.

I have a coming 10 y.o. lab/heeler who in the past 9 months has been on this diet in efforts of losing weight. I can tell you that this product has worked wonders in his weight loss success. At a current 83 lbs., I cannot imagine what we would be dealing with had he not dropped this weight. He was upwards of 110 lbs., and his age and frame were no match for that much weight. He is as happy eating this diet as he is eating anything else, ever! He has never been a picky eater, and so that may also be a blessing. With strict compliance, he has been successful in dropping what could have shortened his life span greatly. None of us are getting any younger......if only he could plan my meals daily. haha. I have a great dane with a voracious appetite. She was abused with food being withheld for the first few years of her life which has led to food problems. She became 35 pounds overweight here in later life -- 9 yo. My vet recommended the metabolic diet. It is amazing. My finicky eater required that I add some of her regular science diet into the metabolic diet before she would touch it, but now she gobbles it down. For some reason she will not eat the metabolic alone and wants some of her regular science diet but as long as it is there, she eats well. She has lost 19 lbs and the vet and I are more than enthused. We continue on with the diet and look forward to reaching our goal.

My black lab was very overweight. The vet recommended this product and within just a few months of her being on it she lost all the weight she needed to. And she is so much more energetic. I tried to put her on the maintenance amount after she lost the weight, but she started gaining weight back, so I cut it down by one cup a day. She seems to be maintaining her weight now. My 9 1/2 lb chihuahua was overweight and causing him to be sluggish and probably other health issues. We started him on this product and in less then a month we could see a difference on his body. The product is very good high quality and lots of fiber so you don't need to feed them a whole lot. The goal is for him to lose a total of 18. He is already more energetic and exhibits more flexibility. We have had our Jack Russell on the Metabolic Dry Prescription food for only 2 weeks and she has already lost a little over 2 pounds. That's a lot for a small dog. She eats it better than any dry food we have ever given her and she gets ONE Metabolic dog bone per day as a treat (we break it into pieces so she can have several smaller treats per day). She is about 5 pounds overweight, so we pray she can get her weight down fairly quickly. It's easy when they like the taste of the food. It's a bit pricy, however, she is a smaller dog who doesn't require a ton of food so it is affordable. Try it!!!

My very overweight cocker spaniel has seen unbelievable results in just 1 month ! We had tried everything to get the weight off and nothing seemed to work. We always gave into the big brown eyes. Lucy loved the Metabolic weight loss dry formula. Sophie has been on this for about a year. She is a Black Lab 9 years old and was over weight--89 lbs. My vet suggested I try The Metabolic (it was new at the time). I have always used the Science Diet food products. A contest was being run at the time to see who could loose in the allotted time. Winner would win 1 years food. My 9 yr old pitbull/jack russel mix lost 12 pounds in 5 months eating free choice dry and 1/2 can of wet a day. Before Hills Science Diet Rocky weighed 64 pounds and resembled the Michelin dog. We have 3 dogs, and of course, over weight, bad for your pets health, so the vet told us to start using this product, and mix with there other food to ween off, the food they were eating, well they ate that first before eating the food they were use to, so now all 3 dogs are on this product and they love it, and at feeding time they are barking at us until we put there food dishes down with this food, unreal, and its working, great product, they love it, and at same time losing weight, so that also benfits them, super.

My dog gets a combination of dry and wet metabolic food for weight loss. It worked in the beginning but now after eight months it no longer is helping with weight loss. We will be stopping this program. It is much too expensive to continue with no results.

I have a shelter mix dog that had a weight problem. She was getting older and could not lose weight no matter what we fed her or how much exercise she had. My vet recommended this food as she needed to lose about 15 to 20 pounds. After the first bag I could see a difference. She looks great now and has the energy of a puppy. I love to see her this happy. This food is a little pricey but, I think the result is worth it.

Since my last post Rusty has lost another 1lb. Rusty is my 2nd long haired Dachshund. My experience is that their favorite form of exercise is rolling over from one side to the other on the couch. However, since he has lost this weight he now plays with toys, and is much more active than every before. Slow and steady is the race. He has lost approximately half the weight he needs to lose. He isn't begging for food, and my favorite thing is that I use the dry kibble as his treats and doesn't seem to notice the difference. I LOVE THIS FOOD, or rather Rusty loves this food.

One day my 5 year old golden retriever stopped walking because his hip displaysia kicked in. The vet said that the best solution was to get him slimmed down and lose the weight on his joints. My spayed now 10 year old english setter was overweight, had a severe right rear hip displasia, and worse, suffered from constant diarrhea despite constant dietary efforts by us. Our vet suggested Hills Metabolic dry food to primarily help her lose weight and to help her hip through weight reduction. Maggie has lost 12 lbs, from 84 to 72 lbs and her hip is now significantly better, obviously due to the weight loss taking some strain off her hips. My Baron was 83.6 pounds in October of 2013. He is supposed to weigh about 65 pounds. His last weigh in, in the beginning of May 2014 has him down 11 pounds!! I am very strict with this diet. My hound dog Molly is 12 years old. Was over weight even though she gets 1 -2 good walks a day. Because of her over weight, her hips were killing her. For her to get up and to see her struggle was sad. Our awesome vet whom we love put her on the Hills Rx Weight loss dry and the wet canned. Our Molly has lost almost 40 pounds!!!! have 2 dogs on Metabolic (this is their second run at it) and once again, it really works....dogs don't seem hungry in between meals. Only complain is that we really need smaller chunks that aren't so tuff to chew. They are small breed, 6yrs old and have tooth loss due to poor diet. I have to soften food in dish when I feed them. otherwise - this has been the only system that has worked for us although rather expensive w/2 dogs on it.......would recommend to anyone!

My Vet recommended this food for my overweight adult Chug mix breed dog. She had become seriously overweight quite quickly in the matter of a couple months after a long slow build up, and then was very lethargic and I was worried about her, as she began to have trouble walking normally with trouble breathing! After the Vet took her measurments and got her diet plan projection for this product, I started her on it right away. She gets both the canned and dry food products each day, along with a treat in very specific amounts. She seems to like the food taste very much, and eats it right up and also enjoys the treats! The only negative I find with this product is that the dry kibble isn't available in the small bites size as most of the other Science Diet dry food products are, so I have to crush up the kibble to feed it to my dog which is a hassle! She has been on the plan for a little over a month now, and has lost a little over a pound and a half already! She will need to be on this diet for an extended amount of time as she has several pounds to lose, but I am confident she will reach her goal weight! My other dog, her brother, also eats the same food, but in a maintanence amount which allows him to keep himself at his healthy weight. I will do this for her too, after she reaches her goal weight! I would highly recommend the Hill's Prescription Diet Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution dog food to anyone who has a dog with a weight problem! If you love your dog and want to keep him or her around for many more years to come, please call your Vet and talk to him about this product!

Recently our Lab mix suffered what is the equivalent of an ACL injury. The number one thing that our vet recommended was to get her to lose as much weight as she could. Our 7 yr old dachshund came out of surgery for a ruptured disc and one of the first things ordered was for him to lose weight. Starting at 22 lbs., after just two weeks on this dog food and following the guidelines, our pup has lost 3 pounds! And, he is no longer always hungry and he loves this dog food. And, we don't mind the smell of it either, unlike some other foul smelling dog foods. His target weight is 15 to 17 lbs., and we're confident he'll get there easily. As for pricing, we were concerned that any dog food that requires a prescription and available only from our vet was going to be expensive. Not the case with this here. The Metabolic actually costs less than many of the "boutique" dog foods we've bought in the past, and our dog really likes this one, too. We have only high praise for this dog food and the results we are seeing it have on our 7 yr old dachshund.

I have two cocker spaniels; one seriously overweight. We tried everything to slow down his constant weight gain. My vet finally put him on Metabolic and not only did the weight gain slow, but actually reversed! He seems to like the food as well or better that another leading brand name weight control product and has lost 4% of his body mass in about 4 weeks. Again this is amazing as he has slowly gained weight even on a "diet" dog food. My other cocker does not have a weight problem, but she likes the food as well, but eats more and is just maintaining her weight. Keeping our fingers crossed for another good check up and weight loss for the heavier of the two. Only downside is the product is significantly more expensive than the "diet" formula I was using from another company, but the dog was not losing weight until now.

My dog Ginger is a 5 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi with a weight issue. For over four years of her life I couldn't find the right product to help her lose weight. Ginger went through nearly every pet store weight loss formula until she was so overweight that she could barely walk. This formula has done the trick, she has lost over 4 lbs and has lots of energy. My only problem with this formula is that it's not natural. Chicken By-Product Meal is the first ingredient and the ingredients don't get any better from there. Ginger has lost weight but please change the ingredients.

My family is on a very tight budget, so when the veterinary recommended the Metabolic food I was nervous about spending that kind of money. Once I saw what it could do, I am so happy that I made the decision. My dog was extremely overweight even after being on thyroid medication and measuring out her food. Her joints were getting bad from the weight, disks in her back collapsed causing her not to be able to walk, and she has an enlarged heart. Another claimed weight loss diet dry food that my cairn terriers will eat. They've been on this product for over a year and their weights have remained the same. They still will eat it which is a plus , as cairns can be fussy eaters. Ages 7 and 10, with weights 33 and 23 respectively. Our black lab being a typical lab has a never ending appetite and this resulted in her approaching 98 pounds. With the extra weight she starting developing shoulder problems so we took her to a specialist who recommended putting her on a weight reducing food. I own 3 Chihuahuas and they were all over weight. I tried cutting their regular food back to a smaller portion and only fed them twice a day. I also increased their exercise routine and cut out all treats. Nothing happened. They could not lose weight. My veterinarian recommended the Metabolic diet and I decided to give it a try. I bought a 27.5 pound bag to split between the three dogs and bag of treats. My veterinarian gave me a feeding plan and we started it immediately. In two weeks we went back to the vet for a weigh-in and they all had lost weight. After only 4 months on Metabolic they had all reached their ideal weight. They all had more energy and looked great. We continued on Metabolic and they have maintained a healthy weight for almost a year now. We added in can food as well. I would recommend this product highly to anyone struggling with an overweight pet. It is easy to follow the feeding plan. They still can have treats and canned food. My husky mix rescue weighed 83.6 pounds in October of 2013. His ideal weight is 65 pounds. He was started on the metabolic food in October 2013. His last weigh-in was on March 1st and he was down to 74.4 pounds. He still has weight to lose, but in 5 months he has dropped 9.2 pounds!! We stick to his diet and have increased his activity. He is a much happier dog now and as he drops more and more weight he gets more and more active. He is 6 years old. I highly recommend this food if your dog cannot lose weight. Make sure you give the correct amount for your pet to lose weight, and stick to it. I think you will have the same success as we did!

We rescued our corgi 2 and a half years ago and when we got him he was a sack of lose skin. We were so glad to see him gain weight and look so healthy! Then we started noticing that his weight gain was going too far. Our boney little dog is now a fat dumpling. He has always eaten food like he may never eat again, so cutting back on his food and stopping his treats seemed so mean. We tried other weight loss foods but he either wouldn't eat them at all or they didn't work. Our vet recommend Metabolic and he loves it! I have a beagle who was 15kg. In March 2013 we started her on Metabolic Dry and Canned food and 18 weeks later she was at a healthy weight of 12 kg! This is not a starvation diet, I even cheated and gave her some other treats and she still lost weight. She is currently still on Metabolic dry and she loves her food. She fluctuates between 12 and 13kg but she is not overweight.

Bailey had reached her weight loss plateau while on the Prescription Diet R/D. My Vet suggested that we try the Metabolic diet. Fluffer does his happy dance when it is breakfast and dinner time. Fergie is patient but she anticipates her Metabolic meal. I was not sure this food would work for my Beagle mix, Max. He always wants to eat and we cut all food but his other brand healthy weight food and he still did not lose any weight. He actually gained even though he is an active 2 year old with another 2 year old dog in the house. My vet and I discussed giving it a try and we have seen results. I am very happy that my Max is more of a healthy weight. We use it for maintenance now. I just wish it was a little cheaper!

My Cocker Spaniel Ebony was diagnosed with an auto immune disorder when she was 6 years old. Therefore she took steroids for at least 6 months straight. I am extremely thankful she pulled through however she packed on the pounds. All she wanted to do was eat and sleep. She didn't want to play with our other 3 dogs just do her business and lay on the patio or come inside. I am was extremely concerned so I took her to the vet (they all know us very well) she told me about metabolic diet. I was very skeptical but she is my like my child so I thought ok lets give it a try. They measured her weighed her and gave me a detailed diet of how much to feed and how long it would take for her to lose the weight...we went for monthly weigh ins and to my surprise in 6 months she went from 44 lbs to 34 lbs!! Ebony will be 9 this year and I haven't seen her this happy in years, playing and running around just like her brothers and sister!!! I would definitely recommend this diet!

We have a 2 year old Giant Alaskan Malamute who had Cruciate ligament surgery 2012 and were told he would needed this other leg done in 2013. Both his parents were 170lbs and we kept Tug Boat lean at 145 knowing the surgery would come up. What a surprised we received when we were toldTug needed a total hip replacement! They referred us to a specialist 5 hours away. The specialist agreed with the prognosis however he won't do the surgery until he weighed 115. I thought impossible as Tug Boat stood at my waist and I am 5'6. My hometown vet recommended Metabolic. I was so skeptical, and called the company directly. This wonderful rep explained how much I could feed per day of wet and dry combination. Too my surprise it was almost double what he was currently receiving. After 2 months we went to the vet to get him weighed and he lost 12 pounds! He actually has more energy and doesn't seem to be as sore as he used to be. My vet is amazed as he never considered Tug overweight. If anyone has any doubts, try it! Follow the guidelines and there is no reason your dog should not lose weight. Don't be fooled with ads and commercials on "premium" dog foods and that their ingredients are better. This time I followed my vets advice and its working! Tug Boat should reach his goal by March, a goal I thought was impossible! He looks fantastic, energetic and happy! Thank you for a great product and fantastic customer service!

My vet put my dog on a diet because he was "way too fluffy" as she described him. She said her other clients' dogs liked the taste, which I was skeptical of. However, my dog likes this food. I mix it with warm water sometimes, and other times, he eats it dry. Being he is only prescribed 1/3 cup morning and night, which doesn't look like much, he has definitly lost weight, and his overall shape has changed. He is due for his first weigh-in, which I am excited to see how much weight he has lost.

I have a bulldog whose name is Gus. In February 2013 he weighted 90 pounds and was starting to have physical/health problems. Our vet recommended that we needed to put him on a diet and he recommended your food. As of November 2013 he weights 73 pounds. Gus is a lot more active, doesn't snore as much and he looks great. The metabolic diet was originally prescribed for my 8 year old dachshund who was slightly overweight but developing back problems. I was skeptical at first due to a previous history of my former pets years ago all rejecting Hill's products. However the acceptance and enjoyment of the Metabolic diet dry food has been spectacular. Even my 3 year old Chihuahua, who is as finicky as they get, loves this food. The product does have an odor reminding me of cabbage, but it is not objectionable. So now I have all three of my dogs on the same food with the dachshunds on the diet regimen and the chihuahua on the maintenance regimen.

Last January I put my slightly overweight pug (26.5# and really needed to be 24#) on the Hill's Metabolic Diet. There are a few things I love about this food. First, it has only 242 k/cals per cup, which is really low. Next, it has high quality protein and veggie sources. Furthermore, it works on his metabolism at the dna level (I'm not sure I totally get it!). Finally, my puglet lost all the weight in the first month! OK, that was a bit quick, but he has been on maintenance (he gets 2+ cups a day!!) and he has not gained an ounce in a year! My only wish is that there was a human formula!! I recommend this food highly!!!

Our German Shepherd was drastically overweight. She couldn't run and definitely couldn't jump. Walking up the steps was even hard for her. We tried many products recommended by pet stores and nutritionists. Finally, our doctor recommended Hill's Metabolic. She has been using the product for about 5 months now and has lost over 20 pounds. We go for three mile walks together. She has no trouble jumping up onto things (when allowed) and has recovered a lot of her youthful energy she used to have, even though she is nine years old. The product really works. At first I thought she would be hungry since we also cut down the amount of food we were feeding her, but the product is developed to fulfill her hunger on less food. She often left some of the food and went back later to eat it. As soon as she gets to her goal weight we will switch to the Hills Maintenance program, but we are not going back to our past brand of food.

The main reason for me trying the metabolic diet was because my dog was overweight. One of the selling points was that even if there were "cheats" while eating the food, the animal would still lose weight. And it's true! My dog is a small breed, so he only had a few pounds to lose, BUT a few pounds is relative when they are so small to begin with. My Jack Russell Terrier was very overweight, and food aggressive. She would steal food from the other dogs and from my children. I was skeptical at first but my chinese crested girl was looking more like a chubby pony. I started her on the Metabolic diet and not only did she love it but the weight started coming off quickly. The Metabolic Diet has been working well on the patients that have been using it . There was one dog who was not losing and we ended up doing full bloodwokr and found he had Hypothyroidism, started him on the levothyroxine and along with the metabolic diet, did very well and lost the weight needed. We are trying to get people to do wellness bloodwork prior to the diet recommendation.

My dog has lost 12 lbs so far on this diet and we haven't been very strict on her feeding. She still has 9 1/2 lbs to go. Her activity has really increased and her coat is nice and shiny.Before she started this diet, she would be panting by the end of a 3 mile walk. Now she has no problem with the walk and loves her runs in the field. I have a picture of her before we started the diet and she looks so much better all ready. She eats all of her food in the morning. I recommend this diet for anyone who needs to get weight off their pet.

I have a Chihuahua that loves to eat and gains weight very easily. I tried some other diet high fiber foods with him, which just made him defecate all the time, and my other dog wanted to eat his bm's. I have not had this problem with Hill's Metabolic Dry food. He loves the food and has lost weight and kept the weight off. My other dog is also eating the food although she does not have a weight problem. I am glad that I can use it as a maintenance diet.

I have had my dogs on the Metabolic food since it came out. It has really helped my overweight dogs loose weight. My St. Bernard has lost almost 20 pounds and is bouncing around like a puppy. I have a 6 yr old female Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with chronic weight problems. My dog is larger than the AKC Standard for the breed because she comes from 100% English stock, which is much larger than the tiny dogs they have been bred down to in the US. The US AKC Standard calls for an 18 inch dog weighing up to 18lbs. The English dog is much bigger & healthier. Her normal weight should be about 22lbs. Being overweight is, of course, my fault because I am the one who feeds her. Dogs in the wild (wolves) don't eat wheat or corn or any of the fillers in most commercial dog food. The food I fed her to was no-grain & included high amounts of chicken, sweet potatoes & dried fruit & veggies. I also always add fresh carrots to her kibble & feed her a small custard cup of plain non-fat yogurt at 11:30 at night. This is her favorite meal of the day :D. Last year I became disabled and cannot walk her anymore. I've relied on hiring neighborhood kids to walk her but it doesn't seem to be enough. Also, she is getting older. She gained weight on the recommended feeding amount of my other dog food and my vet convinced me to try this formula - at least temporarily - when she reached 29lbs. During the first month she only lost about 1 1/2 lbs. I was disappointed but my vet urged me on. Now, after 10 weeks, she's lost a total of 5lbs - 25% of her toal body weight - and is within 2lbs of what my vet wants her to weigh. Obviously I am very pleased since she is healthier at this lower weight & I will need to maintain her at the lower weight. She is happy with this food and enjoys it. I am not sure what I am going to do when she reaches her target weight. I am still anti grain in dog food & am researching a maintenance plan for her. For now, I am very happy that Hill's has this weight formula food available & I consider using it a total success. I gave it a less than perfect rating because it is not a food formulation I think I can maintain my dog on in the future due to my preferences regarding dog food ingredients.

One of the most common problems pet owners face is finding a decent and palatable food that provides proper nutrition for their pets. As a pet owner its also difficult to stick to recommended feeding guidelines because we feel as though our pets aren't eating enough to keep them full. My 5 year old Miniature Dachshund weighed a little over 16 pounds and was overweight for her size. Like most Dachshunds, the more overweight they are, the more likely they are to suffer from other problems down the road especially back problems. Despite sticking to the strict feeding regime recommended on her old bag of food, eliminating table scraps & adding in regular walks, she wasn't losing weight. Our Hill's representative came into our clinic one day discussing the new Metabolic Diet they had came out with and how it could benefit pet's who are slightly overweight. She not only explained it's nutrition and how it works with your pet to keep them full, but that it was also a diet that could be used long term to maintain a specific weight once it was reached. Although skeptical, me and two additional clinic staff decided to test it on our pets. My Dachshund wasn't picky about her food so transitioning her to the Metabolic diet was simple. The kibble smelled palatable & were of decent size which was also a positive because it forced my dog to chew her food rather than inhale it. After one month I had taken my Dachshund into the clinic to weigh her. Much to my surprise she was down 1.3 pounds! She has now been on the Metabolic Diet for 4 months & I am pleased to report she has been maintaining a healthy weight of 13.6 pounds! I loved this diet so much that I even switched my cat to the Metabolic Feline Diet. Traveler, a terrier mix, lost 2 pounds in seven weeks. She went from a "stuffed" sausage to a dog with a "little" loose skin. My mixed breed rescue, who has the build and appearance of a Corgi, has reduced his weight from 13.8kg (June 2013) to 11.95kg, (end of October2013) a tiny bit less than his target wieght of 12kg. Our 3 legged Sheltie was very over weight and our Vet said we have to get the weight off to prevent serious health issues. Cinnamon was 33lbs when we started her on the diet. She had difficulty moving around and had long given up on playing or taking walks since it was hard for her to move with only 1 front leg and 2 back. (She was born this way and was a rescue dog.) She became short of breath just walking around in the house. Our Vet gave us a stern talking to about feeding her from the table which we will never do again. She made it perfectly clear it was going to kill her. We immediately stopped any food other than the Metabolic. We were very diligent in following the feeding guidelines. Initially, we only gave her the food and did not use the special snacks. It seemed to take awhile, but then suddenly we noticed she was beginning to loose weight. At her last visit she was down to 27.7lbs. She loves going for walks and playing fetch with her ball. She is like a puppy again. She enjoys feeding time and also loves a Metabolic snack treat a few times a week. THANK YOU HILL's for creating this product. It really works and will be Cinnamon's food for life.

I have a 7yr old dachshund that I rescued when he was 3yrs old--he was skin and bones at 11lbs and gained one pound per month until he ballooned to 21.3lbs, which was way too heavy for his 'tween frame--he looked his best when he was 14-15lbs--I've tried many other diet foods but he NEVER lost the weight combined with the fact that my mom shared her food with him and he stole on a regular basis his brother's food (toy poodle)---at a loss of what to do next I talked to his dr--the dr said it was imperative for Puck to lose weight and Metabolic was the only way it was going to happen--I was skeptical ---because for the last 3yrs he was the same weight no matter what I did-- I just can't believe the results in three months he's gone down to 17.5lbs !!!--I know they say 28% in the 1st 2mos but he has gone off the wagon here and there ---I'll be happy with 2.5 more pounds --he has more energy and is able to walk more with a pep in his step--I feel one more big bag should do it and then we can transition him back to regular food--the food satiates him (thank heavens)and he likes the flavor-he doesn't look at all like he's suffering/starving while on his diet--to me it smells like potato chips--he definitely looks healthier and is NOT being starved to lose the weight--he does move his bowels more-guess that's the excess weight going out of him--lol---but I must admit he still rather people food given the choice--if Hill's ever came up with a food that dogs would eat over human food then that would be priceless ;) but this is good runner up until that discovery comes ---bottom line, your pooch needs to lose weight, go on Metabolic

A few years back, my veterinarian said that the only reason the pets lose weight on a pet food specifically designated as a "weight management" food, was that they wouldn't eat it. I just purchased my third bag of this food, and my cat seems to really like it. I measure out her food, and she nibbles on it throughout the day. Her bowl is always empty in the mornings. I have tried other weight management foods, and because I have multiple cats - she always ends up going to another bowl and eating their "regular" food. Not so with this however, in fact, it's quite the opposite. I find my other average weight cats, with their heads buried in her bowl. It's too early to tell if it's working, but I hope it's successful.

My girls been on this food and between the 2 of them lost 11 pounds total. My chocolate Lab lost 6 pounds and my Lab Mix lost 5 pounds. It is a great product and I would recommend it to anyone who has an overweight dog

My dog ended up gaining weight after she hurt her back and ended up not being able to be as active as before she got hurt. My wife and I tried many things to try and get her to lose the weight-like increasing her level of activity and having her on Hill's w/d Prescription Diet. This didn't seem to work for her as her weight stayed pretty much the same. However, once we talked to our vet about the new Metabolic food and our vet did the measurements required by Hill's, we were told what amount of food to feed her and here we are about 8 months later and she is almost down to her target weight! I have also noticed increased muscle strength and she just seems lighter on her feet. It is also worth mentioning that our dog absolutely LOVES the taste of this food--more so than any other we have previously tried. Both my wife and I are very happy with the results of this food and the value of it and we would both recommend it!

Our vet put my dachshund on the Hill's Canine Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution. My elderly father has been feeding him table scraps when I'm not home. I have tried to get him to not feed him, but with dementia, its almost impossible to do. I have noticed a difference in his weight since being on this dog food, although its not easy to get him to eat it at times because he was used to the table scraps! It is a constant battle to get dad to stop feeding him, but I am trying! :) Thank you Hill's for making this helpful product for pudgy dogs like mine!

We have a 4 year old Yellow Lab that is VERY active. He runs every day and swims several times a week. But he still seemed to pack on the pounds. Our vet recommended Hills Prescription Diet Metabolic food and he went from 108 lbs to 92 lbs in 2 months. And he wasn't deprived of the amount of food he normally eats. I recommend the Metabolic diet for any animal that needs to lose a few extra pounds!

The product has promoted weight loss but not as quickly as was promised. The ingredients in the food are not what I would prefer for my dog. The first ingredient is chicken by product meal, one of the worst things for dogs. The rest of the ingredients are also not great. As soon as my dog gets to her ideal weight I will probably go back to my old dog food. The food is also very expensive especially if your dog has to be on it for an extended period of time.

Shortly after getting our pit bull mix rescue we discovered she had heart worms. She really took to the resting needed during this treatment well ... So well that she hardly enjoyed exercising even 2 yrs later so we let her become lazy and 8 to 12 lbs overweight. In just 3 months on this food she lost 5.8 lbs!! And that was eating more if it per day than she got of the old food. And she loves it! I wish there was diet food for me that I liked this much!

In 4 months, my 96 lb golden retriever has gone down to 83 lbs, and thats with quite a bit of cheating, and very little exercise. I have never been a fan of Hills, going more for holistic and whole dog journal recommendations, but their lite formulas just weren't taking a lb off of old Gracie, so my vet persuaded me to give this a try.....and I have to say, I am totally impressed. She has 8 more lbs to go, but already looks great. No more table top back. She is eating more than she was with the other food, and even gets treats on this diet. She appears totally content with it. The poops are huge, so that was something to get used to. I know to carry a bigger bag on our walks.

I took my dog Meeka to the vet a couple months ago, one of my concerns was her weight. She gained 10lbs in one year which means she's now 20 lbs over weight. Surely I thought it must be her thyroid so I had it checked. No, blood work is fine. That means that I was simply feeding her too much food and too many treats. 20lbs on a dogs is a lot!! My vet suggested the metabolic dog food so I decided to try it. I started her on the food a month ago. I noticed that I could feel ribs again!!! Is this possible? I made a trip to the vets office and put her on the scale. I was so shocked I made her get on the scale twice. She lost 15lbs!!! She has 5 more to go, I can't even believe it. This is a must have food if you have a pet that needs to lose weight!!

our pup, well dog i should say because he's seven years old, has always been overweight and like most owners we never thought much about it. however, in april of this year he tore his acl and was in need of surgery to repair it. we decided that it was finally time to get the excess weight off of him to avoid the same injury to the other back leg. we started him on the metabolic food the same week we found out he needed the surgery. four months later i am proud to say not only has he fully recovered from the surgery, which took 12 weeks of limiting his activity to strictly allowing him out to the restroom and back inside to sit, but he's lost 22 pounds since starting the metabolic food. thank you hill's prescription diet employees for coming up with this food. you've truly helped us give snickers a healthier and better quality of life by getting this excess weight off. only 8 more pounds and he'll be down to the ideal weight the vet wants. this food is definitely worth the money!

My dog has lost weight in the first 10 days. It was 2 pounds. She plays like a puppy and she is 7 years old. She has to lose her belly fat to have a life saving surgery or she will bleed to much. It looks like she is losing weight really fast like the doctor said she would. It is pricey but worth it to save her life. Oh and the cat has his too. He is just plain oh fat and since the dog is on a diet then why not him. lol He loves it and it fills him up. lol Wish the bird had his too because he eats all day long.

My dog was overweight and hurt his hip. He had to be packed outside and he bunny hopped in the house.We started him on Prescription Metabolic weight loss solution. He lost 4 pounds last month and continues to lose. He has started walking better and is feeling much better. We didn't know for awhile if he would walk or not. I have a chihuahua, well over weight. I have fed him the Hills, Metabolic food for approximately 4 months and he is down to the weight he is suppose to be. His body looks better (like a dog) and his little legs are not extending the wrong way. He has a lot more energy than he has ever had. Working in the veterinary field (and frequently recommending and feeding Hill's foods to other pets) I was excited to learn about this formulation. After a learning seminar at my workplace, I decided to try this food with my own dog, a 3-year old YorkiePoo who's ideal weight is 18lbs. When I began feeding him the Metabolic Diet dry food in Feb 2013, he was 22lbs and refused to eat any dry food or treats. He also has food intolerances that limit my food choices for him. From the very beginning, he LOVED this food... plain, dry with no enticement! Within a week he'd had no reaction to the food, his stools firmed up and became normal (an issue I'd had with his previous diet), - but would he lose weight? I remained hopeful. At his first weigh in after being exclusively on this diet and no treats for a month, feeding the vet-recommended amount, my dog hadn't lost even an ounce. I was disheartened and spoke with my vet, who dropped his feed back by 1/4C. At that time, I added in one Metabolic treat per day to offset his hunger (yes, he was very hungry on this diet). His next weigh in was the 2nd week in May, and I'm excited to say my dog has lost 2lb. Just two more left until he reaches goal! His hunger is well controlled now and it's obvious he's feeling much better. I'm looking forward to getting him to goal and then continuing him on this diet for maintenance. The Metabolic Diet definitely does work. It may need some tweaking here or there in terms of feeding amount, but don't lose hope and remain in contact with your vet.
