My cat ate the food in the beginning but soon did not want it any longer. I have to mix better tasting & more moist food with it so she'll eat most of it. How about some more flavors? Tuna has never been a good flavor for her and the chicken is very dry so she tired of that pretty quickly, too.
by PamW on 03/15/2024
I'm really grateful that my cats have transitioned smoothly to this food. Having something that's good for their kidney condition really is one less thing to worry about.
by Sandy on 09/04/2023
Works well with our very difficult cat with hepatitis encephalopathy. He's still a bit reluctant to it but we're having great result healthwise.
by Annie on 08/07/2023
My cat likes this product, but I can't continue buying it because I have to waste most of it, and it doesn't come in a smaller size. I have to split this large can in four meals for my cat (half a can or 2 meals p/day) and refrigerate the rest. However, my cat only eats it when it's fresh out of the can, because this food doesn't refrigerate well; it changes the smell once it's been in the fridge. I tried warming it up for a few seconds in the microwave before giving it to her, but she won't eat it like that, either. I also tried giving her the tuna and veggie stew that does come in a small can, but she didn't like that one at all...
by Gi's Critters on 06/30/2023
My cat loves this above the other Hills cat meat products. Trouble is that it only comes in a small 2.9 ounze can which is ore exoensive than the 5.5 oz cans. Because the prescription diet is expensive enought, I will have to pass on any future purchase of this variety,
by mike on 05/29/2023
We are trying to switch our fourteen year old cat to renal food after being advised to do so by our vet. We bought a variety of renal care foods from our vet, including this one. It smells absolutely terrible and of all of the varieties we've tried, this is the only one our cat absolutely refused to eat. One sniff of it and she walked away. No amount of coaxing could get her to try it. We threw it away and will never buy this variety again.
by James on 05/20/2023
My cats have been on the Hills KD for many years. It was great to find one food that would work for all of my cats since one has kidney issues and another has a history of bladder crystals. Before they were all very excited at meal time. Now they sniff and walk away. We did the transition process and it made no difference. Now their food is barely touched until they are desperately hungry. Before the formula change I was recommending this to anyone who needed a good kidney support diet for their cat. Not anymore.
by Kathy on 05/19/2023
I have been feeding two of my cats Hills Kidney Care since October 2020. Back then, I researched all the dry food available in my country and chose Hills Kidney Care because it had 0.52% Phosphorus and 0.26% Sodium. The recommended phosphorus range on a dry matter basis for cats with CKD is 0.3 to 0.6%, so I figured this was a good option for my cats. Because the formula has since changed, I looked at the nutrient analysis in the bag and found that the Phosphorus level is now 0.75% and the Sodium level has also increased to 0.37%. I thought there was a mistake in the bag and I looked at the other 4 bags I had and they all show the same percentage. So I talked to two veterinarians who recommend this to cats with kidney issues and they were surprised too, because the Phosphorus level is now close to any other kibble for adult cats with no kidney issues (around 0.8%). Could you please shed some light on this? The bag claims to have "Reduced phosphorus and sodium" and the numbers that appear in this page, under "Average Nutrient and Caloric Content" are different than the ones in the physical bags. Iยดm enclosing a picture. Thank you.

My cat has been on the Prescription kd chicken food for 6 years. He loved it. Was always excited to eat. With the new formula change, he wants nothing to do with the food now. He barely eats any of it and as a result is losing weight. He had been to the vet when we bought this most recent bag with the formula change. At that appointment all his kidney numbers were good and stable.. The only change is the food itself. Please go back to the previous formula.
by S G on 03/23/2023
I have used Hill's products for almost 40 years but will need to change. Have one on non-prescription urinary and they changed formulas and a problem. Now, the K/D Chicken for another one of my cats who has eaten it for 10 years will not touch the new formula. Hill's needs to stick to the original solid formulas or lose customers. At $75 a bag, I can't waste money on inconsistent cat food.
by Arkansas Ellen on 03/19/2023
Bought this for my cat after being diagnosed with kidney disease. She will not even look at it. Put it in her mouth and she spits it out. Returned it to the vet.
by Jakel on 01/11/2023
My 18 year old cat was just diagnosed with stage one kidney disease and was put on the k/d food. So far he doesn't like it. I've mixed it in with his previous food to start and he still won't eat it. I got some canned k/d also so will try that next.
by Shan52 on 01/07/2023
I have no idea what they did to it for this new formula but my cat hates it so much he will pick it out of the other food it is mixed in with and leave it on the floor or spit it out. Never a problem with the old formula, and he can't have fish so the other food is out of the question to even try. Out a lot of money on this bag & afraid his kidneys will get worse now because he refuses it.
by Popscene01 on 12/24/2022
My cat won't touch this food. She loves the fish flavored one, and will eat literally any other food I put out. I've never seen her reject food. She will not touch this and now I'm out $35 on food that I can't use.
by Megan S on 11/28/2022
About a year ago, I noticed that my cats were making a terrible racket when they ate the k/d dry cat food. It sounded like grinding gears. At the same time I started finding their bowls pushed all over the place and all these tiny fragments of the kibble in the bowl. I think there's been a redesign of the kibble shape possibly and it was hard for them to pick up and chew. Now I have to pick out the kibble fragments every time I re-fill their bowls. I would still recommend the product because it does seem to help their kidney function.

Cans from vet with T0430227B 061 27226 stamp on back, cat picture on label, and "Chicken liver flavor" in the ingredient list smell good of tuna and have perfect consistency; cat loves it. Cans from Petsmart with T1431131B 165 27226 stamp, spoon of food picture on label and "Hydrolyzed chicken flavor" smell awful and are a sloppy liquid mess; cat won't touch it. When I talked to customer service rep I was told nothing had changed and to send a picture.
by Cat owner on 08/30/2022
Started our 2 senior cats on this food per our Vet's recommendation. They both ate it at the outset, as it was something new but they both soon grew bored with it. We put fresh out twice a day and it barely is touched anymore. I'm thinking they don't like it.

by Krista on 01/14/2022
My vet recommended this food for my 16 year old cat - he ate the sample can and I thought he liked it. After buying a case of the pate, he will not eat it. He licks the top twice and walks away- next I tried the stew. Same thing, he licks it once and walks away. He won't eat the dry food at all. I've tried toppers that are supposed to be delicious and I mix it with his good and he still won't eat it. I can't blame him, the wet food absolutely stinks! I have to air the house after I open a can it smells so bad.
by Leigh on 12/29/2021
My two cats have been eating Hill's k/d canned food in all of its various forms for about a year now, and they both love it. But I am wondering if Hill's has changed the formula since my last shipment, because the odor of this is really unpleasant. Not that any cat food smells great, but this is worse than the ordinary.
I will say that the cat who was diagnosed at Stage 1 CKD a year ago is holding steady, and the cat who was diagnosed at Stage 2 just seven months ago had improved to Stage 1 kidney values in his most recent lab work, so regardless of the funky smell, I guess we will be sticking with this diet.
by C&C of DC on 10/24/2021
My Tilly is 13. She was drinking a lot of water and stopped eating. The vet said there were kidney problems and gave me a sample of the chicken kibble. I had to use a coffee grinder to grind it smaller cause Tilly is down 5 teeth. I mix it with her wet food. She is eating like a horse and is more energetic. Grateful for Hills k/d food.
by KJesse on 07/19/2021
My 17 year old little girl has stage 2 kidney disease. :( Our vet put her on this RX food. I was nervous because she doesn't like anything that isn't her "normal" food. To my surprise, she loves it! We go back in a few weeks to have her levels checked again & I am hoping this helps bring her kidney levels down some. The only problem she has with this, & it's not a problem with the food, is that since she's elderly, she has trouble picking up wet food so she does better with purรฉed food. I've been blending this in a mini blender into a purรฉe so she can just lick it up. Works great. I'd love to see this food in the same flavor, also available as a purรฉe.
by Gracie on 05/19/2021
My 16 year old cat, Josie, was recently diagnosed with some kidney problems. We were trying to find a canned food she would readily eat. She would just pick at her food and was losing weight. Well when I introduced this food, vegetable and tuna stew she loved it. She has been readily eating at least one small can a day along with dry food and she has gained 7oz back in the past 2 weeks. This food has been a game changer.Josie still doesn't like being medicated, but at least we have finally found a renal canned food she loves.
by Cat lover on 03/21/2021
Seems to be good quality as I would expect from a vet recommended cat food but my cat would not even taste it. She has been on C/d for many years and would eat it with no problems. My vet said many cats won't eat the K/d but we at least should try. It won't be great if Hill's would sell single serve portions as a trial for owners of sick senior cats so we could see if the cats would eat it before purchasing a full size bag.
by CrazyCatLady on 03/19/2021
Cat tried it a few times then stopped eating for 24 hours rather than eat the Hills dry or wet canned products. She sniffs it and walks away.
by Trish on 03/17/2021
My cat immediately took to it very well. Its helped him to start gaining healthy weight again.
by SUSAN on 03/06/2021
My cat only likes seafood and I was wondering why she was not eating the Vegetable and Tuna stew better until I finally read the ingredients. The top five in order are Water, Pork Liver, Carrots, Tuna, chicken... No wonder my cat doesn't like it the food, she hates chicken!!! Doesn't like anything other than tuna or salmon! If this were a product for humans it would have to be labeled "Pork Liver Stew" not Tuna. VERY Disappointed that a trusted name brand is so mislabeled.
by Lady with an old cat on 02/16/2021
This smooth pate is the only kidney care food that my cat will eat. I even mix with water at times when he is not drinking enough to stay hydrated. He laps it up!
by Nic Nac on 02/02/2021
My cat just does not like this food even when given pills to stimulate appetite. When he does eat some of it, he will eat around the bits of carrots or spit the bits of carrots out. I waste more to the garbage than goes to his waist. My son found out that his cat also does not like carrots when he would not eat canned food containing carrots. Cats are not rabbits so it makes sense that they are not fond of carrots. His kidneys require that he gets the kidney diet type of food, so will be checking out other flavors/brands. Hills is an excellent brand, and will still recommend to others but they need to do their market research a bit better to make sure their products are more palatable to our furred friends.
by Trying to Feed My Cat on 12/08/2020
My cat seems to enjoy the flavor of the juice of this product but cannot each the large chunks which seem to be getting larger each time I open a new can. She also will not touch the hard chunks of carrot. What are the chances of a new improved formula with consistently smaller chunks of meat and NO CARROTS??
by Ms. Kitty on 12/04/2020
My cat LOVES the chicken flavor. I wish there were more of a variety for her though.
by Andrea on 11/04/2020
I have an 11 year old cat, in the very beginning stage of kidney disease. The vet recommended the science diet k/d canned foods, chicken and vegetable stew, vegetables and tuna stew, and pate with tuna were available. Max, the cat didn't like them. He did eat a little of the pate. It doesn't even smell good. The vet then suggested I try Purina gravy lovers. It's a little higher in crude protein, 9%, but, he is eating it. We need to fatten him up. According to my vet, as long as the crude protein is below 12%, that should be ok for your cat.Good luck!

My 8 yr old cat with stage 3 kidney disease will finally eat wet food. She is so young and when she was first diagnosed with kidney disease she was so sick, she was vomiting and lost so much weight. This is a cat that would only eat dry food then she would vomit it up, awful to see this hungry cat not be able to keep food down. Things are different now that I introduced her to K/D stew. She loves it, she hardly ever vomits now, she has gained weight, looks really good and has energy!
by Lynn on 09/24/2019
My 8 yr old cat with stage 3 kidney disease loves the KD stew! She only ate dry food for most of her life, would not eat the canned food, but she has been eating the stew for months now and she still loves it! I am very happy because I know that she needs more fluid in her diet , she looks better and has gained some weight, she has more energy and is happy!
by Lynn on 09/20/2019
Absolutely impressed with this product. We went from thinking we were reaching the end of our time with our 16 year old cat to having her back to her old self within days of starting the k/d diet. We received a few samples from our vet and once we determined her preference, chicken and veggie stew, ordered our first two cases. It's been 9 days and our cat is back to her happy self and we couldn't be more impressed with the transformation.
by Jane's House on 09/17/2019
The only problem is we have to get our supplies direct from our vet and their wholesaler says there's a supply problem. They should have supplies back available in the middle of SEPTEMBER!! In the meantime, our cat is having to do with dry food instead of her beloved pouches. So thanks Hills! From Phoebe thanks too!
by Phoebes mum on 08/19/2019
My cat was just put on this food by the vet. He only likes the pate. Unfortunately he's a grazer, and really likes it best freshly opened so I would love to see this in the smaller cans. Hopefully they make it in that size soon since he's on this for life...
by Flux on 08/03/2019
I tried mixing this in slowly with his regular food & he would pick around the K/D dry. It got to the point where he was starving himself instead of eating it so I had to go back to previous food. When I mentioned this to the Vet she said the cats almost NEVER like this. Great. Now what?
by Mark J. on 04/12/2019
My cat LOVES the K/D stews. She has been on this K/D diet for about 8 weeks and has done well on the hard food and both wet foods. However, she definitely likes the stews the best. Thank you!!!

It is great because my cat Caesar has been on this food for about 14 months and now he will be 19 years old in April. What I don't like about it is the cost but my cat is worth it.

We have a 15 year old Russian Blue with failing kidneys. This past summer it all came to a head and twice she became very ill and twice required intravenous fluids. It became so critical that we anticipated euthanizing her was our only option. After moving her to exclusively Hill's Prescription Kidney food (she will only eat the tuna) and feeding her every few hours we are now over 4 months out and she vastly improved. She is active, her coat has improved and she is healthier than in many years. We know this can't cure her disease, but it has and will give us more quality time with her we did not expect.
by JB on 01/02/2019
My cat prefers starvation over eating this. What is really annoying is that it only comes in slabs of 24 so I couldn't just get a few cans to try him on it and after trying to persist with getting him to eat this I'm now left with 20 cans I need to try and get rid of.
by Trace on 12/27/2018
My cats don't like it, but my 16 year old needs it. Also don't like that the same flavors are not available in both the small and large cans. The large can gets wasted because my cat will only eat it when it is first opened, but a serving for him is only 1/6th of the can.
by KKsmom on 10/26/2018
My cat will not eat this food even when mixed with his old food. He is on sub-q fluids daily and is eating his old food with gusto. Have no idea how to change his mind. Won't eat the dried kd either.
by D on 07/16/2018
my cat refuses to eat either of the K/D stew varieties. She smells it and walks away. She does like the chicken and tuna pates. How about adding a turkey pate'

i can understand why some reviewers are upset at the flavor change; i was upset when they gave a new formula to the kd dry food, and my baby went on a hunger strike. but i am overjoyed by this new pate! my cat has ALWAYS turned her nose up at every kind of wet food until now. i'm so thankful for this new formula! she's been so dehydrated and underweight recently, and this new food is truly giving me hope. thank you!!!!

About this new "e.a.t. improved formula". The smell and flavor is completly different for the old one. And the cat have really unliked. The old fomula was much better.

My 10 yr old cat has been diagnosed with CKD and has been refusing even his old favourites. I basically went through all the ยซย wetย ยป renal foods and he refused to touch them, even after putting juice from a can of tuna on them. I couldn't believe my eyes when he ate the Hills dry renal food...admittedly from my hand, but he's eating! Thank you, Hills

It is very difficult to chew for my 15 year old cat. I'll have to try another brand. I do not recommend it for cats with problems in their gums and teeth.
by Monica on 04/12/2018
Dry food is great the wet canned food is gross and she won't touch it.
by Aud on 03/24/2018
Bought this for our 17 year old with renal failure after reviewing blood work by vet. Advised to buy by the vet from their rooms. Looked unappetising, aroma was not attractive. Main ingredient as listed was WATER, then Pork Liver, then Chicken then Egg Product ???? Also SUGAR and Caramel Flavor. Our cat who has a good appetite would NOT go near i let alone eat it. I would rather feed her something that she is happy to eat , with better ingredients that I look for on the can/pouch, than be unwilling to eat this stuff.
by Eljay on 03/07/2018
I have to agree with the others , my cat loved the oceanfish and now barely eats the new formula , hates leftovers and will not eat the chicken. Why did you change a good thing? Now we have a hard time getting him to eat anything. Bring back oceanfish, at least say your not bring it back so we can move on to a different provider, which we should have already done.
by David on 02/25/2018
Now I am back to a cat who won't eat KD canned. Terrible tuna! Bring back the Ocean fish!
by Turtlebb on 02/10/2018
I tried the chicken pate yesterday. Our cats loved it! Then I looked at the lady of ingredients and saw sugar listed? Why add sugar to cat food??? It's not good for humans, it's not good for pets. So disappointed! I wanted to start giving them this food as they lived it but I don't see the point of feeding them sugar.
by Irina on 02/02/2018
So disappointed to see this product has "Caramel color" in the ingredients. Since the colorant source is not listed, it could be anything. Why is colorant even needed in high end food for sensitive systems? (K/D) My cat would probably like this pate (he gets tired of the tuna) but it is not worth the potential to cause an allergic reaction.
by npr on 01/05/2018
Both of my cats love this food. Maybe a bit too much. They beg for it. My older cat needs this for his kidneys. He has been much more playful and healthy looking/acting since we changed him to this food. It is higher in fat than other foods so I have to watch their consumption.
by Jan on 12/15/2017
Our cat used to really like Pate with Chicken, but now will barely eat the most recent purchase. She eats other cat food enthusiastically. It appears that something changed.
by HP on 12/06/2017
Our vet gave us a number of kidney diet samples for our cat to try; he liked them all but seemed to particularly like the Hills Tuna so we ordered that. Well, believe the other reviews - they changed the formula! What we received was not the same as the sample can. First of all, it STINKS. We eventually put it in the utility room. And worse, our cat - who had never yet found a canned food he didn't like - hated it. He would take a few nibbles and leave it (which compounded the smell problem) Now we have switched to another brand completely because I am not risking wasting another flavor of this. Cat is thrilled and back to gobbling and bothering us to be fed. (Note: he still eats the Hills dry food for kidney)

My two senior cats had starting having frequent loose stools and some throwing up. Our vet prescribed Hills Prescription i/d Digestive Care and the results have been amazing. They both love the taste and things in the litter box are back to normal. Thank you so much for this wonderful product ! ??

Earlier this year my cat developed diarrhea when we transitioned her to the new improved k/d kibble. We just recently had her in canned k/d tuna and she again developed diarrhea when we transitioned her from the older version to the i proved version. Her diarrhea cleared up within 12 hours of feeding her something else each time. Hills -- please go back to making the older version!

My 15 year old girl was spending what seemed like all day at the water bowl, and we started this food and almost immediately, her water intake and urine output is back to normal! We once ran out and had to feed her the regular cat food that our others get, and she was immediately back to the water bowl. Got more food, she backed off the water. Amazing how effective it is!!
by cutiesue on 10/11/2017
My cats are both on K/D canned and dry and love it, except the vegetables. Like kids, they leave them on the dish :-)

My cat hasn't been eating much. I started feeding k/d pate with chicken and he absolutely loves it. It's only been 2 days so we'll see what happens within the next week or 2. I'm just glad he loves it. Unfortunately, because he doesn't want to eat anything else, I can't slowly transition him to the new food.

Really appreciate that this is a very smooth pate. We add lots of water to make a gravy and this blends very well with no chunks. My only wish is that it also came in the smaller size can, but still, very pleased with this product. It's been the most well-received of all the kidney prescription foods.
by TLDH3 on 09/25/2017
After finding a sample of chicken K/D dry food at my vet's office I gave this to my 17 year old cat. He had been refusing food, but he couldnt get enough of this! My other cats are jealous, so they get a few as treats- they go nuts for this! Beg for it! Better than any treats they have ever eaten! They know delicious! Im happy to not have to buy treats for them anymore, and they get good nutrition also! Thank you Hills for the life changing sample and coupon!
by Sunny11 on 09/24/2017
I agree with another reviewer that they need to offer smaller cans esp. for fish. This is my cats favorite flavor but he'll often only eat it for one day before it fails his sniff test, whereas the can size could last for 3. Lots of wasted food. And neither of my cats will eat the stew or gravy varieties, only pate styles. They've been eating Science Diet for almost 20 years, they don't want to change!
by Rc77 on 09/09/2017
They especially love the stew part. Thank you for improving the flavor!

I have a 20yr old the vet wanted switched to this. I was afraid she wouldn't eat it since she is "a little" spoiled, but not one of the cats even hesitated to eat it when I put it out. My only unhappy moment was when I noticed the coupon included expired last year.

I have all my cats on the K/D. They all like the food. I have one complaint about the bag though. It's always a tight squeeze when I first open it up. And, if I cut the sides to get it open more, then the bag continues to split down the sides.

My rescue cat, Molly, turned out to be older than anyone first thought, and she has developed some age-related health conditions. Her veterinarian recommended trying Hill's k/d. Molly has a voracious appetite, but she is very picky about what she wants to eat. I was concerned, because when she first came to live with me, it took a while to find what she wanted to eat. I knew better than to try seafood or beef, so I tried both the chicken pate and the stew. Molly wanted nothing to do with the stew, which I surmised when I saw her bowl upside down and stew spattered all over her placemat. However, much to my relief, she loves the chicken pate! It gets devoured within minutes after being served. So far, her health conditions have remained in check. She has lost three pounds (she was a chunky monkey), and is now in a healthy weight range. She is more active, and her favorite game being unrolling the toilet paper. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with her new diet.
by Arden on 05/02/2017
I don't know why Hill's decided to change the formula on the k/d pate with chicken, but it wasn't a good change. The new food is so runny and seems to be mostly water.
by Clark17 on 05/01/2017
My cat reluctantly eats the Pate' with tuna but won't eat leftovers. At the price per can, I cannot afford to waste any. Why isn't it sold in small cans?

Gizmo had to be Put on the k/d food about a month ago due to elevated kidney levels. She's 16 (at that time she had to have some teeth extracted that were causing g a bacterial urinary infection) Well, she loves the food, her coat is Shiny again and she's acting like normal again. We go back in a week to check her levels again. I'm confident it will be good news. I am on disability and wish it cost less but I'll do without so Gizmo can get proper care. Thank you Hill's.

My cats loved the chicken until the formula changed. Now neither of them will take a single bite of it. It wasn't a problem at first because they loved the Ocean Fish flavor. Now that has changed and they dislike it. Hills, what are you doing????
by Kotki on 03/28/2017
When this was canned k/d with "ocean fish," my cats ate it right up. Now that Hills switched the formula to "tuna pate," only one of the cats will eat it, sort of.
by Kotki on 03/28/2017
My cat's kidney values are creeping up as he ages. I recently switched him to this food per my vet's recommendation and he's back to gobbling down his food. It's been great to see his healthy appetite back. Also, I love reading other people's posts how this helped their kitty!
by whitemike421 on 03/26/2017
My old guy is feeling great again thanks to this food
by Cookiesmama on 03/24/2017
My cat has been on the k/d chicken pate for several months. At first she loved it and I could see a positive change in her because of the food. I would open the can and you could tell the food was wet and soft. Now I open the can and the food is barely wet at all. When I scoop it out of the can it literally crumbles. Cats receive the majority of their hydration from the food they eat so why would you make a 'wet' food that is not wet. She won't eat it unless I refuse to provide her with the dry k/d chicken flavor. She is also more thirsty with the new formula than with the old. I have read so many complaints regarding the new formula and the old formula worked so well so why change it? Please go back to the old formula for the chicken flavored pate.
by christinas on 03/22/2017
My 16 year old cat loves the new formula for the pate tuna! It is less chunky than the original formula and he has gained back the weight he has lost from not wanting to eat the old formula.
by Dbello1 on 03/21/2017
since Hills improved the taste and texture of the chicken pate formula, my cat has refused to accept the new food. I decided to give the chicken and veggie stew a try.....bingo! The chicken stew canned food works like a charm! Each cat is unique so if you are having similar issue with the new chicken pate formula, give it a try.
by Himalayan on 03/17/2017
My cat has a heart condition and the meds have taken a toll on his kidney function. Our vet recommended k/d and kitty loved it until the formula changed. Getting kitty to take four different meds daily has already been stressful for kitty and mommy and now kitty is depressed with new formula. I called Hills and representative was extremely helpful and walked me through the transition plan but the transition failed on day 5. Kitty knew the formula has changed and wouldn't touch it. Kitty is already 15 and I hope Hills can bring back old formula so kitty can have good quality of life during his senior years.....
by Himalayan on 03/13/2017
Thanks for changing the formulation and moving chicken down from the first ingredient to the 3rd. My cat now does not eat the food he needs for his kidney problem. Now I need to find another brand that he will eat
by Corinna on 03/08/2017
My cat loved the ocean whitefish and of course they had to discontinue it! Now there's a tuna pate. My cat won't touch it ,and I can't blame her, it's consistency is like soup! I returned it to my vets office. She barely likes the chicken either. I don't understand why they have to discontinue flavors when it seems like ocean whitefish was pretty popular. Thumbs down for the "tuna soup"
by Buzzbiers on 03/05/2017
Our adult male cat has been completely changed for the better since put on this food by his vet. He had been puking all the time and was grossly overweight. He has slimmed down now and rarely pukes. can't recommend this enough.
by Saturn on 03/04/2017
I am a former vet tech and I know KD works great. My rescue is older then my vet thought at first (10) but seems the old man is 15years. I noticed he hung out at the water bowel now and using the litter box more, so to the vet for blood work and now he's feeling much better. he loves the tuna and will eat around the chicken both dry and wet. He did lose a pound and after 3 weeks he really gained it back.
by cotton on 02/27/2017
The previous version of k/d feline with chicken was much better, as was the k/d feline with ocean fish. The new 'improved formulas and textures' of both these producct are total 'walk aways' by my cat. The previous minced texture of both products was more appealing to my cat, she was eating very well, but now the pate is a washout, too soft, too runny. Go back to the older texture or give pet owners a choice what to eed their pet.
by elkcove on 02/23/2017
My cat refuses to eat the new Tuna Flavor k/d. Why did you discontinue it? I also agree with some of the others to make smaller cans. He didn't appreciate the leftovers after the second day (but at least he ate them)
by angelroc on 02/18/2017
I'd been so happy to find a flavor my older cat would eat consistently. Now Hill's has changed the formula and she won't touch it. Very disappointing!
by KSNOW on 02/15/2017
very helpfull until you changed the formula. Now she will not eat it. Excellent ratings are for original formula food , not the " improved version
by frf5 on 02/14/2017
Our cat has been on this prescription for at least a year, and whenever it was time to feed her, there was inevitably some food left in the bowl from the previous feeding. However, the recent formula change has solved this problem! She devours it now, and it's next to impossible to train her sister to stay away as well!
by Megaphone Marge on 02/13/2017
My cat liked the old formula but will not eat the "new improved" chicken KD food. It is so upsetting because she had been eatting the old formula for a little over a year, and now won't eat.
by SuziQ7 on 02/12/2017
My vet recommended this food for my cat Snickers who was having slight indication of kidney problem. Since feeding her this food, she is healthier and the kidney improved.
by SherBear on 02/10/2017
Helps keep my cat healthy and my cat actually likes this food, even after a year!
by Raechal on 02/04/2017
My cat LOVED the [k/d with chicken]. I've never had a problem getting her to eat her food. Now this new [k/d pate with chicken] smells like death rolled over, she won't go near her bowl and I don't blame her. Even mixing in the k/d with chicken and the k/d pate barely helps. Every day is now a struggle to get her to eat at least 1/2 a can worth of food. I hope I will still be able to get [k/d with chicken].
by Stephany on 02/01/2017
My cat used to love the Hill's Prescription Diet k/d with Chicken dry cat food. My other cats loved it, too, and would eat her leftovers. However, the last bag that I bought said "improved formula". When I poured some into her bowl, I noticed that the food looked different and was a little "oranger" in color than before. Now she won't eat it, and my other cats won't touch it either. Please go back to the "old" formula.
by 5cats on 01/25/2017
My cat would not touch the new formula. Please stop messing with things that are working well for people
by KathyMc on 01/23/2017
Started using k/d formula in Nov. Ava loved it, I went to buy some last week and only find an "improved formula" ava won't touch it and I'm not sure what I can feed her now. Please go back to the old formula.
by Areynolds on 01/01/2017
This is the only urinary food my cat will eat. I only wish it came in the larger sized can!
by reeno1 on 12/21/2016
My cat liked this as soon as I gave it to her. This is the first prescription diet I have used, and she likes the flavor and consistency.
by BJR20 on 10/26/2016
My cat was put on Hills K/D, after her last vet visit..I started her on K/D dry, she likes it but I felt she still wasnt eating enough, so started her on K/D chicken vegetable stew. To my surprise she loves it..I highly recommend this food. Will post again after her next vet visit in 2 months..
by Pokerdee on 10/05/2016
Started this in 3/2016 as kidney values were on the low side of high normal and the kitty wasn't all that old @ 10 for a house cat. He loves it fortunately and looks like the picture of health. It's pricey but more of a value than the competition and I want to say that I am very grateful for the coupons your company offers to help w/that cost.

After having blood work done by my vet, it was discovered my now 15 year old Nicky had a slightly elevated creatinen (sp?) levels, so when her old food ran out, we started her on dry K/D. Thought it would be a battle royal to get her onto the new food, but she absolutely loved it from the first serving. I will have her blood work rechecked when she sees the vet for her annual visit in November.

My Cat Sassy almost died--Symptoms sudden--not eating, not drinking water --I did what the vet told me and it did help but two episodes months apart and the last episode was grave --left her at the vet overnight and with IV and 25% kidney function on blood tests --I thought I had lost her ---My vet could only give her so much IV or it would damage her heart--Sassy's vet called the next day and said I could pick her up I did not know what that meant as we had to decide on the worse! Miracle! She was alive and eating K/D tuna stew--she did not eat the pumpkin that they also gave at this time from Hills the vets gave us all of the samples -This was on Wednesday, Sept 28,2016 I ordered 2 cases and today I got the dry to mix in with the wet --She was not able to walk --her temperature went down to 67 and the vets brought it up to 107 She brightened up, sleeping once again with me and now she can jump up on her catstand which has levels -Before she slept and hid in the bottom compartment of her catstand--not coming near--Now she is playing, jumping, loving and meowing and eating K/d Thank you so much for having this availabe --I really believe between me, vet and Hills you saved her life --I dont know how to send pictures--and even if I did I would not want a memory of Ivs in both legs and oxygen on her little body --but, I will try to send a picture of her now--She loves this food and I thank you with all my heart at this time in Sassy's life I did not have to make a decision but I would like to say never give up on your cat , dog or any other animal as I found at Hills Prescription Diet for my cat has gave me and Sassy more time to appreciate each other--Thank you from my heart --Jill Ellis

The k/d helps keep my cat on the healthy side. The food doesn't have an unpleasant smell. It actually smells good. Always a consistent texture and quality, which my cat and I have grown accustomed to. I will not be switching.

by Jak2 on 07/23/2016
My cat's Vet recommended I change her cat food to the k/d. She loves it and has also gained some weight which she needed. She used to bug me for cat treats all of the time, now she's not interested in any treats because the k/d keeps her happy.

My female Maine Coon has been on this diet since March. She likes the chicken flavor but was getting tired of it. I'm so glad (and she is too) that you're making more flavors of the special diets for cats.

My cat was diagnosed with kidney failure about a year-and-a-half ago we are so lucky that we have this product available to us it has done wonders for his health. I know it is not a cure but it's definitely helping him we enjoy every day we get to spend with him.

by Wiley on 07/13/2016
my feline finds is tasty and likes the texture of the pate.
by Rita L on 07/12/2016
My cats will eat this, even more than pricey store bought brands. The cat who needs this always begs for other food. (She likes table scraps the best) I think she is just a chow hound I also bought the canned chicken which did not go over as well but I'm going to try a seafood one for my "chow hound" as the others don't care for seafood flavor.

My cat, Allyoop, has been on Chicken KD for about 9 years. KD, in cans, is the only food she is allowed to eat. She loves this food. It's the best....it has allowed her to lead a healthy and long life. Thank you!
by Allyoop1 on 07/11/2016
My 17 yr old cat was loosing weight and looking pretty bad. Blood tests revealed her kidneys were not functioning properly so I was given samples of several kidney diet foods and she preferred the Hills over all the rest. She has been on Hills KD dry and canned for about 3 weeks now and is gaining weight and looking very healthy. I'm expecting her to hang around for several more years now!
by LisaH on 07/11/2016
My vet recommended this food for my elderly cat with kidney issues. He loves it and comes looking for it every afternoon.
by No nickame on 07/10/2016
I have been feeding Hill's Prescription Diet k/d to my cat for the past 6 years and her blood work has improved every year for the past 4 years. I'm a firm believer in Hill's products. I have been feeding Hill's products for the past 38 years. Hill's Prescription Diet k/d is the first time I have ever fed a feline a prescription food, but have fed canine prescription dog food in the past. Hill's Products as far as I'm concerned is the only product to purchase for my pets.
by MaggieLu on 07/10/2016
This product contains way to much water. Cat loves it, but I have to feed her much more than I normally would just to satisfy her.
by Allyoop1 on 07/10/2016
My cat had a kidney problem and was prescribed this food to prevent further problems. Have been using for over 3 years, no more additional vet bills
by Cyndi19 on 07/10/2016
I'm a senior who relies on your coupon for my cats. I disappointed that you cannot get more than 1 coupon. I chose the wrong coupon and was locked out of further coupons. This is disappointing.
by RebeccaL4u on 07/09/2016
My vet recommended this food for my then 16 year old cat who was nearing the end of his life. A year later, he is still alive and has gained back weight and is still fairly energetic. I also started this food for my 17 year old cat who is not 18 years old. She has gained back all of her weight and is acting like a kitten again. They both love the taste. I also use the canned K/D as a treat for them a few times a week. It's a bit expensive, especially when 2 cats are on it but I can often find coupons from Hills.
by JBUtah on 07/09/2016
but my cat won't eat it. In fact I've had two cats now that won't eat this or any other renal diet. Waste of money.
by JBbbb on 07/09/2016
I bought this two months ago and gradually introduced it to my two cats and could not continue giving it to them because it caused very runny stools. I was disappointed
by Rochelle on 07/09/2016
My vet recommended Hill's K/D cat food for my older cat because her kidneys were showing signs of stress. Since she started eating K/D, her activity level improved and her appetite is better. My vet says here kidney function is better also.
by Betz09 on 07/09/2016
Our vet prescribed your kd diet for our 18 year old cat. Well, she has always been a very picky eater, but took to the kd dry food right away. With the canned food she gets bored easily, so I'm delighted that you offer several kd flavors to tempt her palate. In fact I would encourage you to develop even more! The fact that my picky cat eats it is a true compliment.
by monkress on 07/09/2016
My cat does not throw up as often as she did before we put her on this food.
by Pamelaa43 on 07/09/2016
my vet recommended the k/d line for my cat about 4 months ago and it has really made a difference in her mood & energy level!
by woodie on 07/09/2016
When I open a new can of this food, there is a layer of fat that has separated from the food and covers the top. Make sure to mix that into the rest of the food, otherwise your pet might do what mine does, and just lick that off and leave the rest of the food!
by Glaivecar on 07/09/2016
my cat will only eat a little bit of the food. the larger can last longer than the smaller cans and I'm not throwing away at much food as I was with the smaller cans.
by miknottus on 07/07/2016
I used to like this product for my cat who is in early kidney failure. The price was expensive to start, however in the last year it has been raised over 5.00!! Plus the new formula is very greasy. It did not used to be that greasy/oily. This is a hard product to find and Petsmart doesnt dictate the price as I spoke with their manager. So Hill's is the one it appears that keeps raising the cost. I am going to have to look at switching to a different brand after 3 years of buying this.
by chris29slc on 07/07/2016
My lovely tortoise shell kitty Aurora, age 15, and always a slow, deliberate eater who likes to savor her food throughout the day, adjusted to her new kd ocean fish with no problems! My biggest challenge is that her "sister" Butternut, age 9, who does not need kd and has always been very food driven likes it too, given the chance.
by Grammy B on 07/06/2016
I had to change my cat's food due to her health issues. She mostly likes dry cat food but loves this wet food. I am happy that she likes this food so much since she doesn't have a lot of teeth left. Good alternative and a plus for her health!

One of my cats Cooper became very sick and was diagnosed with kidney failure by my vet. The vet stabilized Cooper, gave him fluids and recommended a kidney diet food. I tried several different kidney diet foods and found Cooper only liked and would eat the Hills K/D canned food. I returned Cooper to the vet about 6 weeks after being on the K/D diet food and his kidney function had returned to the high end of normal levels! Cooper was active and healthy! I kept Cooper on the K/D canned food for over a year and then changed him back to a dry food and a year later he became sick again and went back to kidney failure! This time his creatinine level was through the roof!!! The vet stabilized Cooper again and gave him fluids but was not sure he would live long. I put Cooper back on the Hills K/D canned diet food and brought him back to the vet 2 months later to have his kidney levels checked and they were right in the middle of normal range!!! Two years later Cooper is very active and healthy at 13 years old. I learned my lesson to keep him on the Hills KD canned diet food!!! Thanks Hills for a great product!!

I have a finicky cat. She is very particular what she will eat. Was very pleased Hill's has variety and options and one that my cat does eat.
by Baileys Mom on 06/30/2016
My kitties like the taste -- that, and the hook-and-loop "zip" closure on the bag -- are the best I can say for this food. I hate the hard chunks of kibble. Hard for feline teeth to chew -- they're not horses! The bag is strong -- has to be, it has to last a long time -- 8 lbs. is way more than I usually buy in dry food. I also hate your website -- print is too small to read easily, the pictures are so tiny the print is illegible, why don't you have a maximize feature like other websites? I only hope this is the same food I'm feeding (chicken) your description doesn't say, and the picture is too tiny to read. Your search feature doesn't work well, either, I put in a specific search term but instead of being taken right to the product, it only took me to the general cat section. NOT the way a search feature should work!
by Bigeyes on 06/30/2016
I have an 18 year old cat who has kidney function that is slowly getting worse due to age. She wasn't eating much regular food. This is a good cat food she can tolerate better and is helping her eat more and do better. It is a little pricy, but I'm glad it exists and we have this option.
by jacobimh on 06/30/2016
I just wish it was more like pate, the cat seems not to like it as much as her old food.

We started our 20 month old cat on K/D after a health crisis where we found he has kidney damage. Part of getting past that crisis was switching to K/D Science Diet. He was hardly eating so we were thrilled when he was interested in the new food. He gets a combo of the canned stew and dry food each day and he loves the K/D! He's past the crisis and we are following the CKD plan - including K/D. His blood panel has improved and we are so happy he's doing better! He'll be on K/D for life so we're thrilled that he loves it so much!

by sandy6763 on 06/29/2016
My cats have been on prescription diet cat food all their lives. It would be nice if the cost were lower and products could be purchased at local stores instead of vets office or online.
by Ziggymom on 06/29/2016
I have 3 cats; one 14, one 15, and one 5 years old. The older two have beginning stage kidney failure. They eat communally, so they all eat the dry k/d (they like dry food best.) They seem to find it highly palatable; it goes fast! My youngest cat also gets 2 servings (1/4 can each) of the Hill's light canned food per day because she is a bit overweight.
by meowymama on 06/29/2016
My Abyssinian is on a Kidney diet and loves these dry kibbles. So does my DSH who is 13 yrs old. I just wish the kibbles were a little bigger for crunching because they tend to "inhale" them rather than chew them. An then they would be better for their teeth. We used to buy the Oral Diet (big round food) and that was great for their teeth - but they are no longer allowed to eat that.
by djklish on 06/29/2016
Just wish it came in a bigger bag....must taste great which is a big plus so he can graze while I'm at work. Also to compare your cost to other RX kidney formulas, I appreciate that I can somewhat afford your price - it's all very pricey with this issue, but it's so nice that your company does coupons to help.

by LaDonna on 06/29/2016
The k/d canned with chicken and with fish is what we feed our little girl. Our vet suggested that we put her on a diet of this kind because of her age at the time (14yrs.) and the fact that she had some issues with her right kidney. Well, she will be 18 years old in August and is in very good health with both kidneys still working fine. I feel this is because we started her on it when kidney problems were just starting. Being pro active for our little girl is keeping her in the best of health considering her senior years.

When we started using hills K/D cat food, we did not like the way the dry food sealed. But it was the same as everyone else's. Then they switched to Velcro revealing. This is the best packaging change anyone has made. Now we can give our cat the food prescribed for him and not spend 5 minutes trying to reseal the package. I really like the new velcro close top for these bags. It is much more efficient and you are certain the bag is sealed.

There are three areas I want to cover with this review. 1. Our 8 year old shelter tortie, Rayne, went to the vet for minor surgery. Apparently, something went wrong during the surgery and she came out of it with ARF, Acute Renal Failure, which given her particular circumstances would be fatal about 60% of the time. Fortunately after a few days of treatment, kidney function was restored. Rayne's only food now is Hill's prescription diet k/d. She has used it for about 18 months. Her regular vet checkups (different vet) show her kidney functioning to be fine. Luckily,Rayne loves k/d and certainly chows it down. There may be a reason she likes k/d...she had eaten exclusively prescription c/d for the few years prior. This leads to area number... 2. A few years earlier, Rayne had a couple episodes of running to her litter box every few minutes in obvious discomfort. Medication from her vet took care of the problem, but it returned a few months later. The vet said her urine showed to be exceptionally heavily crystalized, and she put Rayne on Hill's prescription c/d. The problem was cured practically overnight and never returned. We had some concern that Rayne having to use k/d rather than c/d would result in crystals again but such has not been the case. Apparently the prescription k/d takes care of both issues, at least in Rayne's case. And now for the third... 3. Obviously, we would be very pleased with Hill's solely based on how well our cat has done on the prescription foods. But wait! There is even more! Our vet gave us a discount coupon or two for the prescription food. And, well, as disorganized as I am, I misplaced them long enough for the expiration date to come and go. Figuring nothing ventured, nothing gained, I wrote to Hill's aobut my coupon tale of woe. The response I was given was both gracious and vey generous. Without question, the folks at Hill's will do whatever they can to keep pets healthy and pet parents happy. Thank you so much Hill's
by losninos on 05/05/2016
I have just started giving K/D Ocean Fish flavour to my cat and she seems to enjoy it. However, she can only eat about half of the can and wondering if Hill's is considering making smaller size cans? Having left overs is not the same and throwing the half of the can is not good either.

My 16 yr old Himalayn's kidneys have started to fail and I honestly thought when I took him to the vet... I may not bring him home. She suggested putting him on the HPD K/D stew... and it's SHOCKING how much better he is!!! It's like he got a new lease on life... I can hardly believe the difference. You would never think their food could make that BIG a impact... AMAZING PRODUCT!!!

My cat really enjoys this wet food. It is the one of the only foods she will eat now and I am thankful to have found it.
by ecovington4 on 03/30/2016
My cats do not like the chicken or fish k/d and weren't eating it. They LOVE both the Tuna and Chicken Stew.
by VegasLady on 03/15/2016
My cat is very picky about his food. He loves fish flavors the best in soft cat food. I just wish you would make a salmon pate, for that is his favorite fish flavor. It was easy to get both my cats on the new food. Thank you for making the fish flavor a smooth pate because Nelly does not like chunks at all. I feed them both wet and dry food since they like to graze all day. It is so nice to have my old Nelly back and not the sick one. Also, you site is very helpful with how much to feed and the ingredients that go into the food. Thank you. Love the coupons.
by Loraine on 03/08/2016
My 16 year old seems to like the food, but she begs constantly for her treats which the vet said she can't have anymore. I tried the snack triangles recipe posted here and it was terrible. Food is way too goopy to "cut" into any shape and was impossible to flip. Ended with half burned hot mush and my house stinks like hot cat food. Did anyone at Hills actually test this recipe?
by Kesha on 02/03/2016
My cat has been on the kd diet for about a year now. He eats the stew mix and really likes it. My only complaint is why the cans can't be a bigger size than 2.9 oz. As it is I'm giving him about two to three cans a day. Please consider making the cans larger.
by Ckep on 01/28/2016
My cat was diagnosed with kidney problem since he was one year old. After taking k/d his urine problem no longer exists and has been staying healthy in past 3 years. As we are going to adopt an old cat (15 years old) soon, may I know whether an old cat which has no historical kidney problem can eat k/d food too? Or k/d can only be fed on cats with kidney issues?
by din din on 01/27/2016
My veterinarian recommended and prescribed this food for two of our older cats, 14+ years old and I have to say, they liked it pretty well and that is saying a lot for some finicky old kitties! I feel better about feeding them food that is good for them.

I've had a number of pets over the years on many of Hill's Prescription diets. I've been a vet tech fof 14 years; I have full trust in the quality of Hill's products. Both my dogs and cats have never turned their noses up...very palatable. I firmly believe that Hills food has extended the lives of my pets over the years! Thank you!~

Thomas the handsome cat he is, was beginning renal failure. My vet told me he may get sicker, if he didn't eat this food. He loved it from the first dish full. Between the help of an excellant vet and the k/d feline food. Thomas is now recovering well.He has maintained his weight, is bright and happy, and still loving the food.
by pinkparamedic on 12/16/2015
As a veterinarian, I have had trouble getting cats to eat any renal diet. However, my personal cat has been dealing with health issues recently. Although his kidney values are only mildly increased, he was turning away many different foods, a rarity for him. I switched him to k/d dry, and he is back to scarfing his food! When I try to mix it in with something else, he even picks out the pieces of k/d and leaves the rest!! He has put back on weight and is back to his usual, happy self!
by anmldr on 12/16/2015
I have a very handsome, male 21 yr. old blind Himalayan cat and a beautiful 13 yr. old female solid black cat. Both cats have been eating daily the Hills Prescription k/d cat food for over two years and seem to love it - I see the bottom of their bowls on a daily basis! That's a good sign that they enjoy this product. I sincerely believe this food has really contributed to keep both of them healthy, especially my "senior cat-izen".
by Mackiesmom on 12/11/2015
Three years ago, my Herbie was diagnosed with kidney problems. I was heart broken as he was (and is) my heart cat. In 40 years, I have never had a sweeter, more loving cat. The thought of loosing him still chokes me up. Dr. R. recommended we put him on a diet of Hills Prescription KD cat food. As he had always preferred dry food, I got a bag of that. He practically inhaled it. We picked up some wet and he liked it almost as well as the dry. We fed him nothing but that. Several months later, I took him in for his shots and Dr. R. ran a blood test. His kidneys were BETTER!!!! He still eats KD and is actually more lively and healthy than most other 12.5 year old cats. His Exotic Shorthair fur is still soft and full. It is so thick that with his latest seasonal shedding, he clogged up my printer!!!! I have had Herbie since he was 10 weeks old and he has been an exclusive House Cat since then. With the exclusive use of Hills KD, I hope to have him sprawled out next to my computer for many more years
by footsieb on 12/04/2015
My cat is not as happy with this food as she was with her first 21 years on prescription diets. However I attribute her longevity to prescription diets, r/d, t/d, g/d and now k/d, all dry and great vet care.
by Poot on 10/21/2015
The new k/d chicken vegetable stew and tuna vegetable stew are great. My cat loved the small texture and taste. She tired of other prescription foods after a few days, but she consistently liked these two new stews! Thank you.
by Mooniesmom on 10/21/2015
Love the smaller size. Wish the smaller size was available for all prescription / nonprescription foods. Wish the food didn't have carrots. Cats would eat everything but the carrots. Don't know how they separated the carrots from the food, but they did. Our two cats have eaten Hills since they were born. One of them just died at age 19 and her sister I hope makes it over age 20. .
by Muffin on 10/17/2015
product texture too grainy; not consistently smooth enough texture. Causes pet to ignore at times. When consumed, is effective at maintaining cat's renal function.,
by jebdog on 10/11/2015
Have used prescription diet products in the past with cats and have had very good luck with them. I do believe they extend the life of your cat and the cats are pleased with their taste. Well worth the cost if you love your cat. So glad this product is available and recommended by the Vet.
by jnet on 10/09/2015
Product is great and our 19 year old cat likes it. Wish it was available in a more economical size.
by kittencat on 10/09/2015
This food is prescription so it is expensive but it has reversed my cats negative lab numbers for his kidneys. Cannot live without your kidneys so I am very grateful. My cat is 18 and counting! He's my lil kitty soulmate!
by Lilbit on 10/09/2015
My cat has to eat K/D. He ate C/D for years. It's expensive and coupons would be SO appreciated, they are very hard to come by. He wouldn't touch the canned K/D, but loves the dry.
by Cintheya on 10/01/2015
palatability is terrific. Many of the restricted diets in the past have been a challenge to get the cats to eat.. not this one. Very calorie dense, which is a plus for many renal patients
by fatcat on 09/30/2015
Two months ago our Vet said that our cat had kidney problems and that was why he was losing weight. He put him on the k/d prescription diet. He has gained some weight back; however, we have not tested him yet to see there was any improvements. There are a number of ways to look at the questions above to answer them fairly. The cats (I have two but they both had to be put on this diet - could not separate the food) ate the food but made it obvious that it was not their favorite by taste. The cost of the food is very expensive; however, if it helps out and provides a longer life for my cat then the value for the money would be high. I will post additional information as the results come in on my cats health.
by Chipmaria on 09/29/2015
My cat loves this dry food. She eats every morsel! We have an additional 2 senior cats who have just been introduced to the k/d dry. This is the first time these cats have eaten every morsel as well! Am very pleased that our finicky cats are enjoying their prescription food. It gives us a great peace of mind!
by Sebastina on 09/26/2015
I have used Hill's KD Feline dry food for years with many of my elder cats. It has been very effective in helping to keep my cats in their best possible health. I recently lost a cat at age 171/2 who had eaten KD for the last 4 years. I have 3 more older cats on this food now. I highly recommend it. I also like being able to download a savings coupon when possible.
by ConnieAD on 09/25/2015
My cat loves taste; however I am concerned about the amount of carbs in this food. I am trying to wean him off dry food, as research has shown wet food is best, as long as it is low in phosphorus, calcium, potassium, and sodium. I don't like the corn gluten meal, wheat, and wheat gluten in this food. I will keep searching for the right balance.... Ingredients (first few lines) "Chicken, brewers rice, corn gluten meal, whole grain wheat, pork fat, brown rice, wheat gluten, chicken liver flavor...."
by Rockefeller on 09/24/2015
We had to switch our cat to Prescription Diet because his 13-year old kidneys showed reduced function. He loves the canned food and gobbles it up.
by jswan on 09/24/2015
Had to buy this RX cat food (kd for cats) for one of my cats per our vet. The Hill brand was a better value than the other brand we had to choose from. I have gotten all the flavors and our cat likes them all.
by Ricky12 on 09/24/2015
He loves the taste of both the Ocean Fish and Chicken.
by Gizmocat on 09/21/2015
My cat is a finicky eater and I tried several varieties of renal diet wet food that my cat refused to eat. I was so happy to find that she loves both the chicken and tuna vegetable stew from Hills. It even smells good to me.
by Fionasmom on 09/18/2015
I love love love how Hills has been creating more varieties of the prescription diet k/d food. My cat especially enjoys the stew. She's not allowed to have human food, but now she can have tuna in the stew! Happy cat and happy owner :-).
by couponqueen42 on 09/18/2015
I brought this product because the vet recommended it for my cat. He do enjoy it but I this it cost too much compare to cat food you buy in the store. I know it is a special diet food but I don't it should cost double what I pay for with other cat food.
by Casper16 on 09/17/2015
My cat loves the fish and it has really helped with his problem.
by Griff on 09/15/2015
My cat Socks loves this food & she is a picky cat. She did not like any of the kidney foods but she loves this one. Thank you for making a food cats can love
by sweepsdana on 09/12/2015
My vet first started my kitty out on a different Hills Rx renal diet, and while she ate it you could tell that's exactly all she was doing. When I tried this out, it was obvious she LOVES this stuff! She licks the plate clean every single time! She never did that before. I love that she is enjoying her food and likes to eat her meals. Thank you from both of us.
by chantellalee on 09/11/2015
My 11 year old cat, really likes the flavor of the food. As I also have two other cats, they share her food as well.
by TheCat on 09/10/2015
My Cat really likes this flavour but the cans are too small
by lpaupsmiller on 09/10/2015
This food has helped my 16 year old kitty maintain her kidney functions in her older age. She is very picky and likes the taste of this food. It is a little pricey, but the online coupons help with the cost.
by mjbfamily on 09/06/2015
Buster ,my, 8yo cat ended up in the emergency vet clinic with crystals in his urine. After treatment vet prescribed wet and dry Hill's Prescription KD. He loves it and is doing great. Thanks Hills. PJ Breeden
by PHylli on 09/06/2015
Our Vet prescribed K/D and my first though was: "Oh no, he'll never eat it". I was very pleased when he just plowed right into the first dish! His weight has remained good and all of his lab results have remained in the normal range. My only negative would be that the bag is not a good storage vessel. I transfer it to another container with a tight fitting lid to keep it fresh. I do enjoy receiving the occasional coupons ! Thanks for a great product .
by JackieCage on 09/06/2015
My cat would not eat it. Had to change foods. Went Science Diet Mature cat food.,
by DeMille on 09/05/2015
I started feeding my now 18 year old cat the k/d diet a year ago due to her kidney failure. She is still going strong. I do wish that the cost was not so high for this though. I don't even want to know how much I have spent on the canned and dry food in the last year. She obviously is worth it as she means a lot to me but still, I can't imagine what someone on a fixed income would do. Most likely they would have to either give away their pet or have to put them down which would be awfully sad. I'm not on a fixed income but am single with one income and it's been hard some weeks to buy more. I am very happy though that she is still pretty healthy after a year which I think was way beyond what my vet expected.
by Palma on 09/03/2015
Of all the kidney foods my cat has only relented to eat some of this one. However, he still won't eat it in the quantities he will eat regular food. I worry about maintaining this diet at the current price. It is expensive. I'm also a little upset that the coupon I got in the original sample I received from the veterinarian had expired two months before it was given to me.
by RyJane8 on 09/02/2015
My cat Madison is a senior cat with some health issues. I recently switched him over to Hills Prescription K/D. I was nervous he wouldn't eat it.... But to my surprise he loves it and can't get enough. He now finishes all of his food and wants more ! Thanks Hills!!
by Lauri on 08/15/2015
My youngest cat (13 yrs old) needed help. My vet recommended the K/D chicken flavored cat food and must taste good because she is eating well. I have two older cats as well (16 and 18) and they love it too! I was spending more on other cat food that I believed was very healthy. Hill's offers an affordable price for pets in need of specific food.

I am so grateful that a product exists to help my poor little baby. He has had a hard life. I was his 4th foster mom (from the shelter) in a year - but I kept him, and have had him for over a year now. He is used to free food, and treats, and he knows to come and lick my face when he wants his wet food. Now he will be eating k/d exclusively. So far he is in an adjustment period, he seemed to like it at first, but now I think he wants his other wet food back! I have ordered 2 more cases, in different flavors (tuna and chicken) hoping to see if I can find something he prefers.
by TeriBear on 08/07/2015
My cat that is having some minor kidney issues seems to be feeling so much better and he and my other cat love it too. I just with is wasn't so expensive.
by Ladasmom on 07/20/2015
My kitty loves this food! She can be finicky and is limited to what she can eat and I am so thrilled about this product. She eats up!
by Jingles on 07/19/2015
While it's true that my cat ate a sample of this renal formula provided by my vet, I was disappointed because the main ingredient is water. It is a very runny stew, not at all like what is pictured in the publicity for this product. The picture shows large chunks of chicken and vegetables, but open the can and you find miniscule pieces of ingredients in liquid. It is very expensive, too. So beware that you are paying a premium for water.
by OjosVerdes on 06/07/2015
My cat likes the new k/d stew so much more than any other kidney diet. I feel good knowing I can feed her something that she likes and is good for her too!
by BethPRAH on 06/02/2015
My mature adult male cat needed to eat soft food due to having some teeth extracted. My vet gave me a sample to try that day. I was skeptical about him eating it, but didn't want him to injure himself by eating his normal dry Science Diet k/d food. I shouldn't have worried because he loved it! I also liked the smaller size of the can. Great product!
by Grewgirl4 on 06/01/2015
this product showed big changes in my cats' health within 48 hours.
by cattail on 05/31/2015
My 14 year old cat had lost 7 pounds and was suffering frequent bouts of constipation when I took her to the vet. She was diagnosed with early stage renal failure. I have been feeding her Hill's k/d on his recommendation. She loves the food, is gaining weight and has had no problems with constipation since being on the food. Thanks for this product!
by WeeBear on 05/31/2015
My 20 year old cat needed a prescription diet a few years ago. She is not a real fan of the dry food, although she will eat it if she is hungry enough. We tried a few of the wet foods available, but she turned up her nose to those. After visiting the vet the other day, she gave me a sample of the new Hills Prescription Diet k/d Metabolic stew w/ tuna or w/chicken. My cat loved them both. Of course with any special diet, human or animal, you need to take a second job to be able to buy them. Thank goodness for coupons. If my cat is happy, I'm happy!
by catlady2 on 05/30/2015
All three of my cats like the food and I have one that is rather picky. He had lost some weight and gained some back since switching to k/d.
by VickiR on 05/27/2015
My three 15 year old cats are picky eaters. They LOVE the new stews! I mean, face-in-the-bowl-wondering-when-they-will-come-up-for-air kind of love. I am so happy they are putting on weight, and feeding times are no longer stressful!
by Mitchellzoo01 on 05/20/2015
As my cat starting getting older her appetite was decreasing more and more. Our vet recommended k/d to help with kidney function and she loves the new "stew" formulas. Of course she licks all the gravy off first and then eats the chunks of food. There are never any left overs and her weight has returned to normal. She likes all the k/d flavors but prefers the chicken and vegetable stew.
by judi5051 on 05/19/2015
k/d is a great food for my senior cat. I love him so much and just want to keep him as healthy as possible. He really likes the k/d ocean fish and he also likes the c/d chicken. When I last had his blood work checked his kidney values were elevated so my vet recommended the k/d and ever since he has been on the k/d he has been doing great. The only thing I would say is that he is costing me an arm and a leg but he is worth it. The coupon would really help out financially.
by buddy921 on 05/19/2015
Leo is your poster child for Metabolic but he has now developed the need for K/D. He hated the old K/D and would not budge on it so when I knew he had to eat K/D or die I feared he would choose the latter. I took home a bag of the new K/D and he LOVED IT!!!!! He has been eating it everyday (along with a spoonful of his Metabolic wet food, cause he loves his "treat" too). He even talks me into a "few" extra kibbles of the K/D as treats. I truly feel that the upgrade in taste to K/D is saving my Leo's life for many, many more years and I am so thankful for what I call a miracle!
by PetHostess on 05/19/2015
I recently purchased a bag of prescription k/d Kidney Care for my cat, Tabby. I discovered the bag closure is now Velcro. I was pleasantly surprised as often the food gets stale towards the end of the bag. This will ensure Tabby's food stays fresh longer. Thank you Hills.
by Goldie1234 on 05/12/2015
My cat did not enjoy the old "pellet" shaped Hills dry food. The new shape is easier for her to eat.
by CCGN on 05/07/2015
Finely Hills has brought to market a wet cat food that my cat will eat.
by CCGN on 05/07/2015
my cat seems so much healthier since we started using this product. She is a healthy weight, her coat is shiney, and her dander has gone way down. Also, when she goes to the bathroom it does not have such a horrible smell as it did with the other food we used.
by hgriff01 on 05/05/2015
Recommended by our Vet for my 2 cats due to urinary issues. Both have responded well to the food with no further issues.
by feline on 05/02/2015
It was nice getting a sample of Hills K/D wet cat food from our vet, but the $7 off coupon was out of date and could not be used. Hills should at least include coupons with no expiration date, not knowing when a client might be given the sample.
by Meringue on 04/24/2015
The new re-sealable bag with the velcro closing is great - so easy to use - I love it - Thank you!
by Psarn123 on 04/20/2015
My cat is enjoying this food (the stew) more than the traditional k/d canned. He's on the slender side so it makes me feel better that he's eating better and eating more
by alecian4 on 04/17/2015
This food was prescribed for our 10 year old female cat. My vet gave us a sample pack to try and I'm glad he did because she wouldn't eat any of it. It smells aweful, so I can't really blame her. I know I would've been very upset if I had spent the money to purchase this very expensive food and she not touch it. It doesn't matter if it works well, it can't do anything if the cat won't eat it.
by Gbgw on 04/02/2015
My cat seems to enjoy eating this stew. She is very thin because of a thyroid problem, so I am glad she eats her two recommended cans each day.
by Cindy99 on 03/29/2015
My 20 yr old Princess is a fussy eater. She only prefers certain foods, both canned and dry. She likes this one a great deal. I didn't think she would when I purchased it, but she does and that is good enough for me. She even likes the other flavors. What can I say? If she likes it, then I'm a happy pet parent.
by LongTimePetLvr on 03/26/2015
I've been using the Prescription Diet dry food for all my animals for 12 years. They absolutely love the taste. Its definitely changed their lives.
by Becky07 on 01/23/2015
I received a couple of samples for a senior cat that's showing some signs of renal failure. My concern was that I have 5 other cats and food can be expensive. I've spent a ton of money on special diets, grain free, etc etc. only to have my cats reject it. Thankfully this wasn't the case. My cat devoured it in a matter of minutes. This surprised me since it was the chicken vegetable stew flavor and he's more of a seafood lover. Maybe it's because it looks like a healthy homemade stew with plenty of chicken. I only wish other stores carried it or that I could order online for delivery.
by Corymia on 01/17/2015
My 16 year old Abyssinian, Tigra has to be on this (Renal) type of diet for the rest of her life (many more years God willing). Lately she has turned it down in favor of the k/d Feline Renal health dry food, a first for her. She did eat it at first (she is 4/5 thru her first case).
by TigrasBestie on 01/14/2015
We received a sample of this from our vet clinic. When I saw it was "chunky" I was concerned that my cat would have trouble eating it. He is elderly and eating chunky wet food can be difficult for him. He can also be fussy about what he will eat and that has limited what I can feed him. He liked the food immediately and had only a little trouble eating all of it. If I mashed up the larger chunks he left, he was able to then eat them. We will be purchasing this canned food in the future.
by ElsieAnn152 on 01/12/2015
My 17 year old Siamese cat is very picky, she ate the whole can and came back for more. The vet gave us two other brands of special diet pate food to try. Of the three KD chicken stew was her favorite by far.
by Squeekie on 01/12/2015
I wanted to review this food because I think it is great. My cat loves it and The only think I can see is that she is looking for eating it. The normal K/D (the paste one) I guess that doesn't have much taste. The texture also is good that may be another reason why my cat likes it. The only down may be the presentation, the can is too little and if is not for the size at least the number of cans should be more per case. That 's why I gave it 4 stars. I mean I have to buy 2 sets of 24 just because I give 1 can am and 1 pm but again it is not enough to get to the end of the month with it, making it more expensive than the regular. Which I can't feed her with it because she doesn't eats it. I hope in some point Hills will come with a bigger regular presentation with the new texture or more cans in the case. The coupons help but not enough... for the hassle.
by Yitaomina on 01/09/2015
I have 2 cats who are extremely different (different breeds, like different foods, different ages). Usually, if one cat doesn't like a particular food, the other one will love it. One cat had a health issue and I took him to the Vet. I was given a couple of different Hill's Prescription wet cat foods and a sample of this stew. Neither of my cats would even taste the stew. Apparently, it doesn't smell good enough to even get them to take a single lick. I was led to think that it's something new and that's why the Vet had been sent samples. According to my cats, it needs more work before it's ready for their consumption.
by Blizzard on 01/06/2015
I am extremely satisfied with this cat food. My cat has special needs and she is very picky, and I had to switch her to a prescription diet, and this is the first food she went for without hesitation. My vet's office said that they are having a lot of success with this food with traditionally picky cats, so we tried it out, and it worked! She really likes it and it was such a relief to finally find something formulated for her needs that she would eat on her own. I will most likely keep her on this food the rest of her life since it's working out so well.
by SusanBeth on 12/29/2014
After starting with the regular K/D chicken, then moving to Ocean Fish flavor and eating with only mild interest, we were thrilled that our 18 year old cat LOVES this new stew formula. Eats it quickly, too, almost the whole can in one sitting. We are so excited!
by Cind on 12/29/2014
She likes this one ,more than any other K/D product her appetite is not great ...but, she will eat the Chicken stew
by Antyann on 12/29/2014
My cat is 22 and I've always fed her science diet cat foods. The regular and now the k/D diet food. I like the choice of the smaller can of K/D chicken vegtable stew . I also have a Siamese cat who has been on the Z/D diet dry food for the last 6 years and is doing wonderfully thank you for your great products . I would highly recommend them to any pet owner.
by Blonde on 12/19/2014
My cat was prescribed K/D formula so I got a few cans of the original wet food. He did NOT like. He refused to eat it even after all day with nothing to eat. But today the vet gave me a sample of the new Tuna Stew formula and he LOVES it! I was so happy. He can hopefully put some weight on now that I've found a food he'll actually eat. Thank You Hills!

Nice cat food. Cole love it like he love chicken tetrazzini. Maybe that could be an idea for the next flavor...
by BradP on 11/27/2014
Roxy has kidney failure and absolutely loves this food...she is eating a lot of it, so thank you!
by PT21 on 11/26/2014
My cat is, admittedly, a finicky eater and I had hoped he would like the taste of both the chicken and the tuna stews. Unfortunately, he ate each once then would not eat either again. We even tried mixing it with other foods he liked and it worked for a few times, then he would just walk away and not eat it. Since he needs the kidney diet, I wish Hills would provide better flavor and more flavor varieties for cats. I would try the foods again if this were done.
by Catfancier2 on 11/22/2014
Being difficult to determine the effectiveness, all I can really say in the short time we've been using the product, is that the cats seem to like the food. I'll trust the vet and Hill's that it will help keep our cats urinary tracts free from (or minimize) any issues,
by ESPEE on 11/18/2014
I have a cat with a very, very sensetive stomach. Over the years, I have tried multiple types of foods, both dry & wet. My cat would through up every food (of course, always on the carpet). Finally, my vet suggested k/d diet & my cat is finally keeping food down & gaining weight. I fed her k/d tuna & vegetable wet food & she loved it! I also feed her the dry k/d food which she will eat, but she prefers the canned food I just described. Thank you Hills Perscription diet!!

So happy about new KD cat food flavors. My once finicky cats, now eat every bite of their KD Ocean fish and other new flavors! And always beg for more. Thank you!
by furbaby24 on 11/06/2014
My elderly cat seems to like this and the tuna and stew very much. He's only had it for a week, so I'm hoping he continues to like it, although it is quite expensive, I feel.
by jaycee on 11/01/2014
I got a sample from my vet for my 18 year old cat. She was getting bored with her old food and I wanted to switch it up. The vet suggested I try this sample and I fed it to my cat this morning. She was SO happy that she was moaning while licking away at the food. My family was giggling while watching her eat..she was in heaven! Hopefully she will gain some weight with this new food. Love it!
by KittyMc on 10/28/2014
I am so happy to have this canned food for my 17 year old cat. She only has a couple of teeth, so this is easier for her to eat, plus she gets liquid from the stew. It's important that she likes this food because it keeps me from giving her other food that I shouldn't!
by KSue on 10/24/2014
My kitty is on KD and likes the chicken flavor of the wet food but would not touch the ocean fish flavor. She normally will eat most anything though.
by msmollygp on 10/21/2014
The treatment plan includes changing the cat food. He tried other brands but we found the Hills K/D was the moistest of them all. He is eating it and doing very well on the treatment plan. We buy both cans of the chicken and fish. Also we use the Hill hard food k/d as a treat after his Sub Q fluids and medications.
by BP2014 on 10/20/2014
When you have an animal with health issues, it's really great to be able to match the food to their problem to help us stay out of the vet's office.
by NoStoppingMe on 10/19/2014
My 17 year old cat ate her previous flavor of k/d just fine but this is a new flavor for her and she can't get enough of it. She follows me out in the kitchen, begging the whole time, while I dish it up for her. She can hardly wait for me to put it down for her to eat. I haven't seen her this enthusiastic about food for many years. Well done!
by razamataz on 10/18/2014
My cat, Tippy, had gotten where she would not eat any wet foods - she would look at it and walk away. I was given a sample can from my vet of the stew formula and one smell was all it took! She especially likes the chicken formula but I trade off every other can for the tuna so she gets a change. She eats the dry in between as she is a "grazer" but she wants the wet morning and night.
by joan002 on 10/15/2014
So glad you make the k/d in smaller pieces!! My 16yo male was having problems he seems to be doing well. Thank you. Is there any way you might come up with some treats for the senior cat with kidney issues? I am hesitant to give mine much more than his regular food. Thank you.
by Tlhiatt on 10/12/2014
My 16 yo likes the chicken flavor. Thank you for the variety.

My cricket loves this and it has made her well and she cotinues in good health. She is 14 and spry

It took some time for them to accept the different flavor, but urinary health seems much better after 3 weeks.

Good for my cat. Better for her health. Better diet.

I have been using this product for over a year. It was recommended by our vet. Initially I tried the canned wet food. Since my cat (Bob) was use to only eating dry food after two cans of wet food (same product) switched to only the dry food. Since my cat (Bob) does not like stale food I buy the 8 lb bag and divide into 3 plastic bags. This works out real well and Bob eats a normal serving every day. Only when I open a fresh bag of quality non-prescription dry cat food for my second cat (Betty) I need to keep an eye on Bob so he does not eat Betty's food. After Betty's bag of cat food has been open for two weeks, Bob no longer tries to eat her food. Instead, he acts like he is trying to cover it like his messes in the litter box. Since Bob's been eating this for over a year he still acts like before he was diagnosed and needed a special diet.

Our senior cats, ages 19 and 18, both have some renal deficiency. Our veterinarian recommended Hills Prescription Diet k/d for them and they both love it. They are usually very persnickety about their food so this is unusual .. and great since they're SUPPOSED to be eating it.
by Judy44 on 10/06/2014
My 17 year old himilayan is extremely finicky. I didn't expect him to touch this food. He does eat it fairly well and his kidney function has improved. It seems very expensive but it is what my senior kitty needs. I couldn't give it the best rating because of the expense. However, I am thrilled that his health has improved.
by KCKittyLover on 10/05/2014
My cat was not eating and quite sick, but he started eating this food! He is feeling better! It's just expensive, worth it, but pricey.
by Profvt on 10/05/2014
My cat is 16 yrs old and had 75% kidney failure, my VET suggested I try this product and see if it helps her. Well I have to say, it has made a world of difference in her, she has been able to increase her kidney function to a better level. I would recommend your products to anyone I know who has a cat or dog, thanks again for caring about the products you produce and for giving my cat a better outlook. Sincerely Joanna Benya and Patches

Several of my cats need K/D diet. This has helped greatly for years with their kidney levels.
by doesnotapply on 10/02/2014
My 5 cats are over 11. The vet recommended KD for particular health issues. The cost to feed these cats is extremely prohibitive and the price keeps going up. I am not happy with the economics of using this product.
by Reviewer on 09/29/2014
I like that you finally got some smaller cans for kd. At first my cat liked it. But now she's only eating a little bit then turns her nose up to it. If you could add more gravy maybe that would help. Also wish you would provide a variety case with all the kd wet foods so I didn't have to buy a case of the same stuff from my vet.
by LisaandFaiththeKitty on 09/29/2014
I have been feeding Shayna this for the past month, since her Vet said she has kidney problems, and to feed her this product. I am hoping it helps her feel better and start enjoying life again. She was always such a happy, active, young acting cat. She hadn't been eating well until he put her on this food. She loves it.
by loveshayna on 09/29/2014
My pocketbook does not, No matter were I look it is the same price. To high and You have to buy it from a Vet. Witch is the same price that is on your web page. How about some coupons give me a brake here. I brought here back from Kidney Failure so I have no use cat food like this for KD. Lee
by stovebolt on 09/26/2014
My10 year old kitty was diagnosed with kidney decline 4 years ago. My vet recommended the feline K/d to help it not get worse. Well...it actually got better. We were both very excited. Her levels have stayed at the improved numbers since and have only now begun to decline again very, very slightly. She's no spring chicken, but knowing that her food can have such and amazing affect on her health blew my mind and I could not be more thrilled. It's pretty expensive but how can it not be worth it?

Wanting to update on my cat eating of the kd stew, but it'll only let me review once. So since this flavor goes along with my review gonna write here.(feel free to change wording, (in ahurry) My cat started with dry kd food, and then chicken canned. Due to the renal failure her appetite hasn't been great. She did well with dry briefly, then canned chicken briefly, then we had to order the Ocean Fish canned, which she liked a lot for a while, then we received samples of the stew which she loved. We are on our 2nd case of chicken stew, if she is not real hungry she will only lick gravy, and leaves the chicken. The stew was a miracle for about a cases worth we are now switching from chicken stew to Ocean Fish and also the dry food, through out the day. Eats small amounts several times a day, if I am around to feed her. She has become picky(never was before renal failure) and we are saving the fish stew for when she gets worse, as I am sure that will be the favorite. Just wanted to update everyone that if the magic is over, go back to the fish canned and even the kd dry for variety.and of course the stew. She had been going downhill until the stew came out. Now she has lost some of the weight she had gained with the stew, but has leveled out it seems. And is back to loving the Ocean Fish as well as the other kd products.
by Pamela1 on 09/19/2014
Poco loved the taste and ate all of it without being coaxed. Nice to have a variety of food for her; I am sure she gets tired of the same taste all the time. Thank you!
by BMBK on 09/18/2014
I was so afraid my picky eater would not eat her k/d formula, but she loves it!
by ReneB on 09/17/2014
Great that there is a fish protein being offered! All other renal specific diets are poultry proteins. My cat loves it! I just wish that cans would be offered in a 5.5oz and not 2.9oz cans.
by TracyL on 09/16/2014
My kitty, Professor Pickles, was diagnosed with renal failure this summer and has been slowly eating less and less of the Hills Renal dry food. She got to a crisis point where she became dehydrated and low in some vitamins because she just wasn't eating enough (and is also a bit of a princess for her wet food), so the vet sent us home with a sample of the chicken and veggie. Imagine my relief when she tucked right in! She was game with the other renal samples but this one actually seemed to delight her, especially the stew texture as opposed to the stiff pรขtรฉ texture many of the other wet renal foods have. Will be asking the vet to order us some cans!

My cat "Calvin" has been on prescription K/D for 6 years now and I totally believe that it has kept him going as he is now 19 1/2 years old. He enjoyed the dry formula when he was younger but now only eats the canned formula. He is doing well and I am so grateful for this food!
by KitKat123 on 09/12/2014
One of my cats was just diagnosed with kidney failure. He was on C/D food for urinary issues past few years an I'm guessing due to the high sodium an protein it caused his kidney issues so vet says he needs K/D it's a pricey an not in a 17.5 pound bag like I'm use to buying.. I hope with a lot of the reviews I have read my kitty jumps back to himself an gets his weight back.. I have two younger kittens that are about 5 months an it's hard as they can't have the K/D food as they need the high protein due to still growing . My kitties are used getting self feed an now I have to watch carefully an put food up at nite.. if anyone has ideas or a trick for me to help my kittens stay out of the K/D food please let me now...I just pray this food brings my cats spunk back like everyone's reviews say..

Need more flavors, more palatable, cat tires of food easily.
by JeannieP on 09/09/2014
Our clinic recently started using the feline kd stews for our hospitalized patients with renal issues. The cats have been eating it better and or quicker than the traditional kd form. also having the small can size helps with each serving being fresher.
by cgdr on 09/08/2014
I have a very picky cat. I was really surprised when he was very excited to eat this food. He loves the taste and seems to be very satisfied after eating.
by chihuahuamama on 09/08/2014
I am so happy that Hill's came out with the fish flavor of the k/d product. I am a Veterinary Professional, and I recommend it to clients all the time. For cats that don't like the flavor of the original k/d (some are more picky than others), this is the way to go! It is more smelly than the others, and they love it. The cats we see are all doing wonderfully on it.
by alanischick on 09/06/2014
Getting samples of both the chicken and tuna k/d stew was a godsend for me. My cat has been on a renal diet for just over two years, and was not particularly fond of the wet foods that did not have meat or fish flavors, She absolutely loves these stews and I'm SO PLEASED to have her eagerly eating again. THANK YOU for this wonderful addition to your prescription diets! I highly recommend it as an option, especially for picky eaters.
by Pat33 on 09/05/2014
My cat, Isaac, loves your new chicken & vegetable stew and the vegetable & tuna stew. We both thank you for adding these two very palatable foods to the too-small spectrum of, mostly non-palatable, renal foods. We both thank you; as all crf cats and their owners will confirm, the non acceptability of the typical renal diet and a diminished appetite are not compatible for good health. I was heartened to see him chow down with an enthusiasm not previously seen and the stews lessen our stress levels. Cats eat to live, more so than live to eat. Please start shipping to online stores for the widespread availability and increased awareness to stressed cats and their owners. Thank you. Isaac's mom, Susan

My cat would not eat any of the brands of prescription kidney diets we tried. I knew it was important to keep her on one to help her maintain her renal function and quality of life. Then, I heard about the K/D stews from Hills Science Diet. I tried my cat on a sample and my cat loved it. She eats her K/D chicken stew with gusto now.
by Jeimian on 09/05/2014
We have tried the samples we received in the clinic on several patients, and we have had a great response! Looking forward to offering our clients another option!
by Rikkimama on 09/04/2014
I own two cats ages 15 and 16 who eat this food daily. They eat the wet food and the dry feline k/d. They love it!! They meow constantly when I am opening the can and gobble it up quickly!! I feel the price is also a good value, considering the size of the can. I started using Hills Science Diet cat food in 1993 and have used it faithfully throughout the lives of all my cats!! I always recommend it to every friend I have who has cats.
by bellajade on 09/04/2014
If your cat has renal problems, I would say this is probably the best food to fed them. I tried other products from the grocery store and couldn't get her to eat it. She loves this product. The only problem being it is quite expensive compared to the grocery store brands. It seems like it is helping some although I doubt if it will cure her entirely.
by mommysredboy on 09/03/2014
My cat is very finicky and likes to eat a little of this and a little of that. Last year she was diagnosed with Kidney failure. Lately she has been a lot more particular in her food Your product is the only thing we have found that she eats without fail She loves the vegie and chicken taste and it is almost as if she knows it is good for her and eats it all up. So far we have only been able to get samples since our vet does not currently have any in stock. Any help you could be in that would be greatly appreciated
by patches on 09/01/2014
The texture and ease of digestion and the fact she will eat Science Diet K/D is why I choose this one. She does not have all her teeth. I have seen much improvement in her overall health. She's alert and much more a cat behaving as, I think, senior cat does. Sandra P

In looking for variety from just chicken, I purchased the tuna with veggies. My cat of 18 years does not seem to like this flavor. Perhaps the veggies is not a taste he is used to having. In the past, I have been able to offer him variety of flavors (beef, tuna, ocean fish, lamb). Also, I heat (9 seconds)his refrigerated food and the tuna does not heat as well. The pet store I use only carries chicken and other options would be nice. Thank you.
by WinningWinona62 on 08/30/2014
I like the quality and nutritional components of this food. My cats love it. It's easy to get at my local vet. Wish the cost wasn't so high compared to non-prescription food as it's a lifetime diet and I have 2 cats eating it even though only one cat has the problem.
by Vichay on 08/25/2014
My 17 year old cat has been diagnosed with early stages of renal failure and this product is the one she likes to eat and I have tried tempting her with many. However, it is a bit of a sloppy mix and she doesn't always enjoy the sloppy texture. Anyway, she eats it and she is going well.
by Meg17 on 08/23/2014
My vet determined that my cat needed to be on the k/d canned cat food but only had the chicken flavor available. My cat isn't fond of it and is continuing to lose weight because she won't eat this flavor. Its very hard to find either of the fish flavored cans, and if I find them its mostly required that I buy a case. This food is very expensive and putting out this money to find out that my cat won't eat it does not make sense. I suggest making these other flavors more readily available so one can buy a few cans to try before investing in a case at a time.
by SassyMom on 08/21/2014
While I agree, this product is a product that must be used for any cats diagnosed with kidney issues, you need more flavors. There are so many flavors on the market because cats are so finicky, can you widen the flavors for all of your prescription diet food?
by Gracethecatlover on 08/17/2014
ROXIE enthusiastically eats this food even served cold. I have to keep it from the other 2 cats
by catstaffx3 on 08/16/2014
My cat, Harry, loves this food! The food quality is always consistent in appearance & aroma.
by lindymarie on 08/14/2014
My cat is old and has health issues. Since eating this food he seems to have more energy and be more alert. He is waiting for me to get up in the morning to eat. When I return from work he is by the door waiting for me to get his dinner. The only problem is it is very difficult to buy the ocean fish variety of the KD food. The KD chicken variety is in plentiful supply, but unfortunately for me, Oscar is old and finicky and prefers the seafood. Thanks for making such a cat palate pleasing food.
by Allstarmom on 08/13/2014
I've had trouble getting my cat to eat the prescription k/d formula food. She just doesn't like it. Couldn't tell if it was the flavor or consistency but she just wouldn't eat it. When I returned the unopened cans to my vet for a refund (thank your Hill's) they brought out some samples of new k/d food to try. My cat seems to prefer fish flavored food so I thought she might like the Vegetable & Tuna Stew. She really liked it and gobbled it right up! I'm hoping it isn't just a "one hit wonder" which has happened before with other foods. She loved the first can but wouldn't eat it on subsequent feedings. She liked it enough that I'll go back for more.
by TXKalicoKitty on 08/09/2014
I have confidence that this Brand and type of catfood is excellent for my cat as far as health wise. He doesn't exactly love the taste of it, though. Also, it is very expensive. I appreciate that there are coupons for my use.

Not sure about value for money as this was a sample product and of course free....My cat has been diagnosed with Kidney problems and was no longer interested in the canned chicken KD, My vet gave us some samples of the chicken & the fish stew and she loved them both! She was feeling better and starting to eat so much better. Of course now we are out of the samples and she is starting to back off eating as much again. Since apparently you are not selling the KD stew yet, we are ordering the regular canned fish KD. Hoping she will start eating that. I hope you will start making this product available soon. Do not know how long she will eat the regular KD fish. Plus we have to order the fish by the case, which I hate to do in case she stops eating it or passes away in the mean time.:( She seemed to have a new lease on life with the stew!!! Please make it available soon!!!! Thank you!!!

My beloved aging cat was diagnosed with early kidney failure--of great concern was the amount of weight she'd been steadily losing (and she's small to begin with). My vet recommended the k/d, so I tried it (the ocean fish flavor). My cat has put on weight, seems much more alert and playful, and I am hoping the k/d will continue to keep her in good spirits/health for much longer to come. It's pricey, but worth it if it helps to preserve her health!
by Satch25 on 08/03/2014
For years my cat was on CD's because of a urinary tract infection that almost killed him. He never had that problem again but at 15 yrs old recently began to drink water excessively, his fur became dull and shaggy looking and he didn't have a playful spirit like he used to. At his annual exam his vet determined he now has kidney concerns so changed the diet from CD's to KD's and in 2 weeks time my cat is like a brand new kitty! He's playful again and his coat is more shiny. He still drinks lots of water, but that's good for him since he'll soon be 16 years old on his birthday! Thank you so much for having a prescription food that truly has prolonged my cat's life on more than one occasion!!!!! Sherri, Dallas/Ft Worth TX

My cat, Max was diagnosed with failing kidneys. The vet recommended Hills Prescription Diet k/d. I was a little worried as my cat is a very finicky eater. Luckily he loved it!! He seems to be bouncing back quite nicely. Even though I haven't had a new kidney test, I can tell my his personality and his litter box, this product is doing the trick!!

Feline Prescription KD has improved over the years. 30 years ago none of our cats would eat either the dry or wet versions. Now it is palatable to them. These are obviously not the same animals but I believe the comparison is valid.
by Helen99 on 07/15/2014
My cat seems to really enjoy this food, she patiently waits with much enthusiasm when it is feeding time. In fact she enjoys it so much that I phoned the vet to see if I would be able to give her a little extra. If we are late with her feeding, she will vocalize, to let us know IT'S TIME FOR MY DINNER!! She would always go for the dry food first, but now she heads straight for the wet food which my vet is very happy to hear about. It has a pleasant smell and a texture that my kitty seems to really enjoy
by Lori58 on 07/14/2014
I mix it with a little KD dry for some crunch. This diet really seems to help with my cat's kidney function and I am happy that she will eat it and enjoys the taste.
by Diane50 on 07/12/2014
The vet said that my cat needed prescription food. I brought home Hill's oceanfish, chicken, and another brand to see which my cat would eat. He liked the fish. Since starting him on this food, he is doing much better, and is back to playing. He will also eat the kd dry food.
by sandb on 07/08/2014
You keep changing the consistency & texture of the k/d chicken, he liked it better when he started in January, he does like the ocean fish. When they take medication the smell & textures HELPS a lot for them to eat & take there medication. He doesn't eat a lot of dry k/d because it is PEBBLES of dry food. He loved the w/d dry chicken kibbles were BIG & not pebbles.
by PinkPawlie03 on 07/06/2014
While my cat enjoys your k/d ocean fish, she doesn't like "leftovers". Would you consider also selling smaller cans--about half the size of the 5.5 oz cans.
by Despaj on 07/06/2014
My senior cat was recently placed on the Prescription Diet. Yoda simply devours the Ocean Fish k/d. He begs for more!
by Yoda on 07/04/2014
My kitty did not end up having the kidney issues that my vet claimed, but I figured it couldn't hurt for her to continue eating the wet food that she normally loves. After two weeks of mixing this very expensive food with my cat's normal wet food, she just started to refuse to eat the wet food all together. She definitely would not touch the chicken flavor wet food at all....
by LuvKitty on 07/01/2014
My 14 year old cat was diagnosed almost 2 years ago with early renal failure. Our vet recommended that we change her food to the Prescription K/D Renal food which we did immediately. She has regained some of the weight she lost and she has more energy than before. She likes the food so I don't have any problems getting her to eat it. We are very happy with this product and will continue to feed it to our cat as long as our vet recommends we do so. I would highly recommend this food to anyone whose vet has suggested they switch their cat over to it.
by TarheelnozAgain on 06/30/2014
My cat will barely eat this, both the Seafood and Chicken. The price is fair, but the food is useless if the cat doesn't eat it. Seems to me that more variety should be made, not all cats are fish eaters. Doesn't do an animal any good if they won't eat it. CKD animals need to eat. My recommendation is to put LESS phosphorous in all of the Hill's cat/dog foods, at least the animals will eat that.
by Renee55 on 06/27/2014
My cat Loki (14 yrs) was eating C/d, but I had to recently switch him to K/d based on the veterinarian's recommendations. Though, I was worried about that due to his picky eating habits. Well, the first night of offering Loki a small amount of the K/d proved his taste for it would not be a problem. He devoured it then, and he still does these few months later. Thanks for making sure it was to his and many other finicky felines liking!
by lynpal24 on 06/24/2014
This food is now the only food my kitty can eat - he developed a rare form of bladder stone, more potentially lethal than others and this food, both wet and dry has been his only diet and he is thriving on it.
by BugsMom on 06/20/2014
I cannot truly know if the product has kept further renal concerns at bay, but is the main food that my cat eats, and I believe that she is doing well enough for her age. The only concern is that I have to buy the smaller bag, as even about 1/2 through that bag, there must be a change in taste, for she doesn't eat it as energetically compared to a freshly opened bag. And while I tried for a while, I don't supplement the dry with wet cat food, since she also grows quickly tired of that
by JEKS on 06/12/2014
Another company changed their formula. (Although they stated they only changed the shape. My cat Mitzie would not eat it al all with the change.) Mitzie hated it. I now find out she has Kidney problems and was worried about the change to a new food. There were no problems at all! Mitzie loved the food and we have not had a problem with her eating it at all. Actually she eats more now that she likes the new food. Her food also seems a lot fresher and stays fresher.
by Mitzie on 06/09/2014
I would recommend k/d chicken. Even though it is expensive, it makes a difference in my cats health and well being. My Manx cat is 17 years old and happy.
by Opal on 06/08/2014
Basically, we decided on Hill's because of the variety of flavors available, the lower price than other foods, and the low phosphate levels compared to other kidney Rx food. The cats love the flavors and especially the chicken. They also eat the dry food and like it, too. I would love to see an early stage K/d food with a bit more protein to keep a cat's protein levels up and keep them health. All the kidney Rx food on the market have very little protein even though my vet says this is enough to keep kitty healthy. So far, he's doing well and I'm hoping this food adds to his life expectancy.
by CheeseheadAZ on 06/08/2014
You can't put a price tag on life. My vet advised that I might get one more year with my Sadie if I changed to the k/d diet. It has been two years and she is still going strong. Every day is a gift, and I thank those that have made this possible.

We thought that our soon to be 18 year old cat, Tigger, was dying. He became so skinny, was stumbling and intermittently had an arched, locked up neck. He would just lay in his cat bed that I had on the floor near the heat register. I took him to the vet to see if it was time to say goodbye to my old pal. The vet ran bloodwork. Tigger's kidneys were functionng at half rate and could not filter things. For the past four months, Tigger has eaten both the dry and canned chicken k/d feline renal health cat food. He seemed to instantly get better when he started eating this food. He is now jumping from my bedroom dresser to my bed and never sleeps in that little cat bed on the floor anymore! Anyway, this cat food really has saved my now 18 year old cat's life. There is NO doubt in my mind about this. Thanks Hill's Pet Nutrition! Awesome, life saving cat food. Oh, Tigger really seems to enjoy the taste of this cat food as well.

The company does a good job with all it's products keeping your pet's health in mind.
by ZoeyCat on 06/06/2014
We have been using this food for years, upon recommendation from our vet. Pricey, yes, but no problems. Not sure how long ago, but recently - maybe the last few months - I've noticed that the product has been very oily and even leaves a film of oil in the food dish. Is this on purpose? If not, I preferred the old recipe. Thank you.
by Kyle on 06/05/2014
A little on the expensive side, but my cat loves it.
by PeppersMom on 06/02/2014
My cats gobbled it at first...not so much when it's offered daily.
by Debra on 06/01/2014
Our cat was eating a different, but also-good-quality food, when she displayed severe kidney distress. The K/D food was recommended by the vet, and she's been eating it ever since. Today, she is a healthy cat, dealing well with her kidney issue, and she seems happy and comfortable.
by Laurie99208 on 05/30/2014
Our rescue cat has been eating this since he came to live with us five months ago, as prescribed by our vet. It has given him a new lease on life!!
by JCat on 05/30/2014
I feel that this product is a healthy lifestyle for my cats!!! I wish the price wasn't so high.
by kimmy36 on 05/29/2014
My cat likes this product, and it's no more expensive than the better canned cat foods. Looking at the ingredients, I do question whether it could be a bit healthier. My holistic vet, however, prescribed it, so it must be the best quality renal food available. I do mix a little bit of other food in with it to switch things up a bit because my cat won't eat the same flavor every day. I also buy the fish flavor. The important thing is that she does eat it, and she's quite finicky. I tried another brand, and she wanted nothing to do with it.
by bengaluv on 05/29/2014
Good smell to it. Cats love it freshly opened, though not as much after refrigerated or warmed up again.

Our 16year old cat's health has improved since being on KD
by Kitty3033 on 05/26/2014
My vet recommended KD for our cats, Hank & Sophie 13years old. Hank's lab work showed early signs of kidney problems -- so we started them on wet KD. They had been strictly TD eaters (and by the way, this has kept their gums and teeth in great! shape -- no more expensive dental work.) So now we feed mostly KD with the TD always available to them. It's really wonderful to have products that I can rely on to maintain and/or improve our cats' health. KD & TD cost more than "supermarket" cat food but in the long run Hank & Sophie are healthier and vet expenses have been significantly reduced.
by KatRay on 05/24/2014
Thank you for making k/d canned food with oceanfish. My kitty MerryBelle prefers seafood flavors, so she will eat this whereas she would not touch the k/d chicken canned food.
by AngelaL on 05/21/2014
Two of my cats have kidney issues and K/D is keeping their kidney values at decent levels. Delilah loves the food. Buddy is less enthusiastic but with a little canned taste mixed in he eats his. I have tried two other brands and neither cat liked them so I am sticking with K/D which is recommended by my vet.
by ganana on 05/20/2014
When my cat needed to go on a renal diet I bought the Prescription Diet dry food. She loved it and it worked for quite a while but then she started vomiting it up. She also became dehydrated so my vet recommended the canned food which only came in chicken flavor. She loved it for awhile but then got tired of it and refused to eat it. I also noticed that the consistency was somewhat rubbery. My vet said many of her customers said their cats stopped liking it. Luckily, Hills came out with a new flavor for the renal diet. My cat is crazy about the new ocean fish flavor! It smells better and has a wetter consistency which makes me feel good that she is ingesting more liquids. This new flavor was literally a life saver!
by Vicki06 on 05/19/2014
I have aging cats....one is having renal problems and the vet wants him on KD. I did not know what to do since I have 3 cats, one being only 2 years old. I was relieved that all of the cats could eat this Rx diet...otherwise I did not how I was going to manage this change....the food is left out all day...they graze. Everyone seems to like the food and I am so glad about that.....the adjustment went very smoothly! Yeah!!!!
by kaseyd50 on 05/16/2014
I have 4 cats...my 17 year old is on KD dry, so all are eating this. He really likes it, and is doing well on it.
by Morninglory on 05/14/2014
This was recommended by my vet and I am convinced that it has contributed to extending my cat's healthy life
by Carol50 on 05/14/2014
cat had not been eating and started eating again when presented with the k/d canned food. Will purchase more.

I thought my Solomon 15 yrs old was going to die. His kidneys where almost completely shut down. Vet gave him fluids, antibiotics and told me to feed him KD prescription. He loves the dry and he his like 10 yrs old now. Very happy and I think he will be around for a long time. The coupons really help also.
by Animallover71 on 05/01/2014
My cat Toby is 14 and was recently diagnosed with kidney failure. The vet recommended this food. He loves both the wet and dry. I have him mostly on the wet as it's better for his system. I have found that some cats especially if raised on dry food just will not take to wet no matter what. Food is pricey but he seems happier and more perky on k/d.
by CarolMc on 04/28/2014
A good product that my cats will actually eat! 17 years old and going!
by Ruebaby on 04/25/2014
Was worried that Cy would not find the food to his taste. But he is doing well with the food. Started out mixing his regular cat food in a ratio of 1/2 and 1/2. But have moved him on to a total diet of Hills prescription diet. I have noticed that his stools do not seem as constipated. All and all he is doing well. Wish coupons were available or if buying in bulk could get a reduction. I am just happy that he is happy with his food.
by catalina34 on 04/14/2014
This was the only food Sam would eat We tried so many others and he would not touch them. He ate the hard food only. He was so young to die of Cfs it just broke our hearts. But your food did help him stay alive. Thank you for making you specialized food as u do
by Sammyso on 04/13/2014
Cat like food, but the cost is to high. It is hard to a afford it.
by mgsport7 on 04/11/2014
My 8 year old was diagnosed with renal issues and the vet recommended your prescription diet. She liked it from the very start and seems to have a little more pep in her step lately.
by Harleylover on 04/11/2014
In January I had a very sick kitty. She is 18 but I didn't want to giver up on her yet. She was diagnosed with failing kidneys. After a week of iv's and antibiotics she came home with the suggestion of a special kidney diet. To my surprise and relief she is doing very well and back to her old self. She loves her new diet, both wet and dry. I have another cat who eats a normal diet and this one doesn't even try to eat the other food. She goes straight to her special diet. My only concern with this is the price. I wish it didn't have to be so expensive. Thank you Hills for giving me more time with my "baby".
by lyscott17 on 04/10/2014
We mix her high blood peasure med. in with it and she gobbles it down
by steveb on 04/07/2014
I believe you have changed your Ocean Fish formula recently. When you opened a can of the other formula, it had a hard fat layer, and also tiny hard bits my cat did not like. I decided to try it again in the past month, and no more hard layer and tiny, hard, dry bits are no longer present. She now loves it. I hope you change the chicken flavor as well so it does not have those tiny bits.

I thought my finicky senior cat wouldn't like Hill's k/d. Wrong! She really likes it. :)
by jmcquown on 03/18/2014
My senior female cat was prescribed this when the vet found renal failure was the cause of her otherwise unexplained weight loss. We switched her from regular adult cat food to this and she initially bounced back and regained most of her lost weight. However, this particular cat "gets bored" with foods and eventually quit eating this one as well. I do think it helped her while she was on it, and I don't fault the food for her eventually rejecting it; I believe it's worth a try if your cat doesn't have a history of turning their nose up at foods. (Incidentally, my healthy male kitten chewed through the side of the bag to get at this, so it must be appealing in some way!)
by sasswagon on 03/15/2014
With my cat Mr. Beasley being diagnosed with kidney problems I have had to change his diet to lower protein dry and wet food. My Vet had recommended the K/D so I tried it. My Cat can be a bit finicky about food especially going from the very tasty high protein wet food but he loves the Ocean Fish formulation. Mr. B never has had a problem with wanting to eat it. I wish you had some other flavors available like beef and turkey.
by ArtNDesign on 03/14/2014
I have had 2 cats on Feline k/D dry and have had great results. My first cat was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2009. I started her on k/d immediately. She was 19 years at the time, she lived to be 21, passing away in 2011. In Oct. of 2013, my 15 year old kitty was also diagnosed with early renal problems, put her on k/d dry and retested her last month. Her blood values had improved. Both cats loved the food and I hope to keep the 15 kitty going for another few years. Definitely worth trying
by EMO56 on 02/27/2014
This diet has helped my cat's kidney values decrease and overall health increase. She has put weight on, feels better and is back to sleeping with me every night. I was scared when she went into kidney failure, but it is so nice to have a therapeutic diet, something she eats and does not have to be forced. She loves the food and is pigging out again!!! She is now 15 years old.
by Jami19 on 02/27/2014
When I was told that my 17 year old furry little Angel needed to be on a special diet because he was in early renal failure, I was devastated. He's a very sweet boy and we live him so much. Also,I had already gone through, it seemed liked, every brand and flavor of soft food because of his bad teeth and was able to find one flavor of one brand that he tolerated. So,I was very concerned that finding a prescription kidney food would be just as hard. My very said most cats prefer the soft Science Diet k/d, do I left with 3 cans and my fingers crossed. He ate it ok for about a week, then decided it wasn't for him. So I picked up a bag of the dry k/d, immediately, he dug right in. I was cautiously optimistic, after the experience with soft food. But one year later, he still loves it! I have little bowls of food in most of the house so he can eat without much effort, poor little guy. Thank you!
by CandySue on 02/25/2014
My vet put my 15 year old cat on this food, and her coat feels better. The other cats have decided they like this better than the other food available to them.
by Jewelly on 02/23/2014
My mature cat did not like the wet KD chicken variety of this food but finds the fish flavor more appealing;) He also eats the dry KD kibbles quite well.
by kitten42 on 02/16/2014
Sadly, my cat will not touch the canned KD food, although she does eat the dry. I have known many other cats through the years that had kidney failure and would not eat it either. I tried mixing it with something she does like, and that did not work. The dry is fine, but my cat has always eaten both dry and canned premium foods. Another issue I have is the size of the cans, my cat will never eat "left overs", so even if she did like it, I would be throwing half of it away. It could be the pate texture which is not appealing. How about something chunky in small cans like your competitor has?
by SunnyCalifornia on 02/13/2014
My 19 year old cat is having renal failure. It's not dire yet but this really turned her around and she is going strong after over a year on KD. Before KD I had her on Science Diet but it wasn't enough and she was miserable.

by Efram on 02/09/2014
With two cats having the beginning of renal problems, I had to switch to Hills KD dry food to insure their health. Both cats love the taste of this food! It is very moist and remains moist until the bag is gone and I get another one from my Vet. Much unlike other dry cat foods which are "dry" as their name suggests. I am very pleased with the Hills KD.
by Chaz on 02/06/2014
My cat was diagnosed with renal failure over a year ago. He was not doing well and I didn't have hope that he would last much longer. The Vet recommended I change my cat's diet to KD for both wet and dry. It is now over a year later and my cat is doing well and still has a strong appetite for both the dry and the wet food.
by streaks on 02/03/2014
She has been on this food since I got her from the shelter at what they estimated her age to be 2 years. Her kidneys are half the size they should be so she has some issues. This food is so worth the extra price I pay. She is 10 years old now and doing pretty good, thanks to Hills.
by Sandy3 on 02/03/2014
I know that KD is specifically formulated for animals with kidney failure and I appreciate that there is a viable option for both my geriatric cats that have that specific need. They do not vomit near as often but recently have not been as inclined to eat it. I believe if there were a variety of flavors, they would not associate the smell of their food with the nausea they experience.
by CLI14 on 02/02/2014
We have been feeding the K/D Diet for several months. Our vet did indicate that some cats are finicky and that we may need to find a food that would be palatable for our cat. Our cat took to the food right away, once a UTI had been cleared up. We did notice that if we opened a fresh bag before the older bag was finished, the cat would prefer the fresher food.
by Steve119 on 01/30/2014
My cat loves this food. His renal health has improved and he has regained his weight.
by Hillsreview on 01/25/2014
Most importantly my cats kidney functions have improved with this product
by jeri on 01/25/2014
My cat can only have KD food. Whether soft or dry, he doesn't prefer the taste over what the other cat gets (hard food or soft). I wish there other flavors or something more gravy like. It's expensive but he's 18 and I'm just happy he's alive.
by Michaelsmommy on 01/23/2014
My cat Sabastian has been diagnosed with beginning stages of renal failure...his amazing vet recommended K/D wet food and with a little coaxing, he has enjoyed the taste of the food. All of his levels has improved and he has been a much happier cat. We hope to have him around for years to come. Thanks for looking out for the health of cats around the world!!
by louisianacatlady on 01/15/2014
My older cats needed this kind of food due to their health issues...they like it and eat it well...not like some other products we have tried
by Mimikath on 01/12/2014
k/d diet is keeping George the cat's health under control. George (who is female) loves both the dry and wet versions and eats it readily. I can do open feeding with her on the dry kibble, so it is super easy for me. I use the canned version of k/d as a treat, which she really loves! Overall, I'm very happy that this prescription diet has worked so well for her. She's been happily and healthily eating it for over four years.
by LouiseH on 01/09/2014
Our old cat needs a lot of fluids and this food has that. We only give him the hard prescription diet as a treat.
by deelila on 01/05/2014
Lila has severe kidney problems. Since I started her on K9 with chicken, she seems to be feeling so much better. At one point, she was swelling up with water but now she's sleek and happy. Thank you to my great Vet for recommending this product.
by Litterscooper on 01/04/2014
Because of bladder stone problems, my vet switched my cat over to k/d Hills Prescription Diet. He seems to be doing very well and looks forward to every meal!
by Missy2 on 01/03/2014
Although I am not a fan of the smell or mess my cat makes w/ this food, it is prolonging her life. The dry food was a better bang for your buck, but my cat was still intoxicated while eating it. The wet food definitely is better for her but she doesn't eat fast enough and it dries up rather quickly if not eaten in a timely manner. So I do waste a bit more than I'd like to, but she is living & happy...So I am happy!
by Karen86 on 12/30/2013
We like the product, though we wish we could print coupon from your website.
by cali on 12/27/2013
My cat likes the the texture and taste of K/D. I have been feeding it for years to my older cats.
by Deere61 on 12/26/2013
My cat is 14 years old and was prescribed this food by my vet 18 months ago due to some test results. My cat is doing well and has more energy than she had previously. She appears to like the taste even though she tends to be a little picky about her foods. I keep the food in an airtight container and it stays fresh for the entire bag. I would highly recommend this food for any cat if prescribed by your vet.
by Tarheelnoz on 12/22/2013
Hill's prescription diet k/d is one of the only foods that my cat will continually eat. Although she will not eat the wet variety, the dry food keeps her kidneys as healthy as they can be. I am very happy with this product!
by samanthapiinel on 12/19/2013
My cat recently started on k/d and she is doing well. Her Dr. is satisfied with her results so far.
by Lou107 on 12/19/2013
I was happy to see a new flavor of k/d canned come out, unfortunately my pet did not seem to like the texture--the texture seems a bit "stickier" then the k/d with chicken.
by JayS on 12/19/2013
My cat loves K/D canned food. She is normally very picky when it comes to canned food. Not only does she like it, it has improved her quality of life.
by amymagana on 12/19/2013
At first I was not sure if my cat will like it, but she loves this cat food! I mixed her new food with old one half and half the very first day, and she enjoyed it. And on the second day, I gave her all new one and she ate it all. This cat food's texture is very smooth and that was important because she likes smooth one.
by Megu10 on 12/15/2013
My cat has been on K/D for almost 2 years. She has never turned her nose up at it like she did with some of the previous brand of cat food she was fed. Her vet recommended the change since she's a senior citizen in the cat world (but don't tell her that). I've been very pleased with the Hills Prescription Diet food since she's been on it.
by rlginsat on 12/11/2013
My cat is eating again and gaining weight. But I wish it was available outside of my veterinarian's office. It's pretty expensive for a 4 lb. bag.
by Kathyann369 on 12/07/2013
The product is helping my 14 year old cat live a longer healthy life. When we switched him over we did mix new food with old food and did this slow so he would take to it. I highly recommend all cat owners doing it that way.
by Notreadytosaygoodbye on 12/04/2013
Caleb can't live with out it , no he really can't . We have tried other specialty foods for his problem but they don't work. We love our orange cat so much we will do anything to keep him.

My cat doesn't care for the prescription diet, however I find that if I cut up one of her treats and mix it with the food she will eat it.

My 17 year old cat has eaten dry KD for 2 years, but I was supplementing daily with regular wet cat food for variety and his preference. That changed recently when our vet said he could only have KD, wet and/or dry. Lab tests 30 days later showed improvement.

by JIlla on 11/11/2013
My 15 year old cat's blood work showed slightly decreased kidney function so my vet prescribed the k/d for her. She will eat the dry food but doesn't like the minced wet food; she doesn't like the competition's wet food either. None of my cats seem to like pate' -style cat foods in general -- I wish y'all would develop a chunky style version of the k/d that she might find more palatable. I think this is a good product, but my cat doesn't agree...
by momcat09 on 11/09/2013
i was glad to know that there is a food for renal failure in cats , now if i could have started it sooner to maybe delay the onset of kidney failure. i am glad it came in wet and dry food so i could change it if my cat was tired of just the dry food. she liked the can food so far.
by autumn on 10/24/2013
When you have an 18 year old cat who is a part of the family and has early kidney failure, it is great there is a product like k/d to help keep her going. We use the dry formula in their bowl and the can product twice a day to help give her medicine that we mix in with it. After a full year, her numbers remain the same and she isn't getting any worse. Our previous cat made it to 22 and Moma Cat wants to break that record !
by MomaCat on 10/19/2013
My cat was diagnosed with kidney failure nearly 9 months ago. They told me she had anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months left. They told me to feed her the prescription KD food to help. It sure did! She's more social, friendly, and a happier cat. She has more energy and is still doing well. I am grateful for Science Diet Prescription food. It gave me my baby back!
by KarenW on 10/15/2013
Although this is an excellent food for our eighteen year old cat but the price is very high.I know its a necessary part of my cats health and she enjoys it but you have to bring down the cost of the wet and dry version of the k/d series for feline. And you need to let pet stores sell this series also since I can only purchase it at my vets office.I don't quite know the reasoning behind this.My pet store is not even ten minutes away and the vet is almost a half hour away. Not convenient at all to purchase.Hope it will change.

My vet has recommended that my cat be fed the Hill's Prescription Diet K/D. She likes the taste and looks forward to meal time every day.
by rlginsat on 10/14/2013
My kitty is at least 18 years old and has been healthy most of his life. In April I was told that he has the start of kidney failure, and his vet put him on Hill's K/D low protein wet food. He likes it for the most part, but he did seem to get tired of it after a while, so his vet offered another brand and he liked that for a while. Now we are back to Hill's K/D. If your kitty gets tired of one brand, do try another because your kitty is important. You may find yourself going back and forth between brands and that is fine. Your kitty's health is what is most important. Before the kidney failure was diagnosed, I fed him Hill's Science Diet.
by Kittymom12 on 10/10/2013
This was prescribed by my cat's vet. The only thing she has eaten for years is Science Diet Optimal Care and Oral care. She wouldn't eat canned food or any kind of treats or anything like tuna, chicken, turkey. I was concerned she wouldn't eat this, but to my surprise, it was like there was no difference. But I know there is because my other cat that always tries to eat from her dish no longer cares to!
by lovemycat on 10/06/2013
Before, as I fed him regular store canned catfood, my 14 year old cat was gaining weight, constipated, and sluggish. Our vet recommended Rx food and he liked the taste of this one the best. Now the only problem is that he eats a can a day and it is expensive! But he has lost weight and is happier...
by GeorgiaD on 09/30/2013
My cat is 16 years old and was constantly throwing up on the moist food she ate twice a day. Took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with kidney failure. Vet recommended this food for her. She gobbled up this food for the first 6 months and has only vomited maybe a handful of times now. This past month she has started to not have an appetite now. I wish there was more of a variety for her to eat in this type of food. I have started to mix very little regular moist food with this moist food and she now has an appetite again with no vomiting. I know this food has helped her and it is a little pricey compared to the regular moist food but she's worth the extra money.

The fact that our elderly male cat likes the k/d wet canned food has really helped us keep him on a good diet. He prefers the k/d wet to any of our other casts' wet food.
by Mothra on 09/25/2013
My 16-year-old cat was recently diagnosed with beginning kidney failure. She likes the dry k/d food, especially with her favorite Temptation treats crumbled on top. She seems to eat it in the middle of the night more than during the day.
by Hope on 09/23/2013
I was worried at first that Vixen wouldn't eat the food so many reviews saying the animal wouldn't eat it. My cat jumped on the food and loved it. It IS expensive. The reason I gave an "Excellent" on value for the money is due to the fact that Vixen is doing so much better. Gaining weight, she has more energy and she "acts" like the cat I know and love. The k/d food has made a big difference in my cats quality of life. Thanks for a wonderful product Vixen and her Mom.
by Vixen on 09/18/2013
My cat has been on K/D dry/wet combination for 5 months now. Recently, dry changed it's shape & Rufus absolutely loves it. It's strange how strongly he reacted to it! From a health standpoint, it's been 5 months with renal failure diagnosis and last tests showed he's stable. That's all I can ask for. Well no, I can ask that it be a little more affordable.
by Rufus01 on 09/12/2013
The food is rather expensive but my cat needs it so we buy it every month. My cat seems to do well on it, so that is the important thing.

I have two four cats and two need KD dry. They hate KD canned. I use your coupons to try to be economical. Unfortunately I am unable to print a coupon each month or even every other month and my cats eat two 8lb bags in a month and a half. Why are consumers limited to so few coupons?

My cat has had kidney stones since he was born. My vet recommended this cat food. I got some, he really seems to enjoy it. I have another cat that eats it too. The only downfall is the price, but I can use my CareCredit card at the office to get some. One bag lasts quite a while with 2 cats. My cats did gain some weight on this food, but they really seem to enjoy it. They have been eating it for almost 4-5 years.

My cat seems to enjoy the taste of the dry k/d kibble. She doesn't like the wet food at all.

Why doesn't this come in additional flavors or textures? My 16-year old Maine Coon does like variety...and frequently turns her nose up when she gets served the same thing over and over again. Unfortunately she must be on the prescription diet because of her age and frail kidneys. Come on, people, would YOU want to eat the same thing day in and day out?

After Hill's sent me the information to help me get my kitty to eat this special food, she ate much better. Especially heating the wet a little, that really helped. Thank you, Lillie and Blue

Our Noel's (14) kidneys started to fail and our vet suggested this food. Her values were initially very bad. I have always fed my cats Science Diet and was a little shocked by the cost at first, but Noel has miraculously bounced back. My cats have always only had dry food so she took to this right away. Now, both my cats are getting the dry food as well as the moist as it's hard to keep Gizmo (the healthy one) away. I am very grateful for this product. Noel's kidney values are super and she's even gained some of her weight back.

Once I found out Bailey had renal failure my vet recommened feline k/d. She has been eating it for about 9 months now & she is much better. She is elderly (18) and if not for Hill's Science Diet I don't think she would still be with us. Thank you Hill's Sciene Diet!

My cat is experiencing kidney failure and my vet recommended this food. I only bought one can at first because I didn't think he would eat it but he actually loves it! Went back the next day and bought 7 more cans.

This is the product that my veterinarian endorses and approves. Unfortunately my cat does not like it. I mix some of her favorite wet food with it and she will begrudging eat it. It did bring her kidney values back down, so the product does work as promised.

My cat is 19 years old and has had borderline elevated kidney values for years . The hills diets have always been great products so when I put her on k/ d a few years ago there were no plalitabilty problems . Thanks hills for helping keep my furry children healthy .

I have a CH cat who does not drink enough, thus we are trying to prevent future kidney issues. He took to this new food right away...no issues what so ever switching over. Excellent product.

My cat is old and I didn't know how she would like it...and she eats it right up. Plus, I think it helps her feel better. But, it could be a little cheaper.
