This food helped enormously with our 3-year old cat's urinary problems. Our vet recommended it and Pet Care RX provided us with great pricing. Thank you!

My 15 year old cat has never peed in a litter box. I have been using pads his entire life. Took him to a different vet for a UTI and she prescribed this food. After about a week he started using the box. It's been about 3 months now! So worth a try!
by Donna on 07/20/2023
This new formula smells stinky and the texture and shape has changed. My cat refuses to eat it and this is required by her vet for her condition. I wish we still had the former version because she was eating it on a regular basis. We have been forced to another competitor brand as a result.
by BethieBeth on 06/06/2023
My cat frequently gets urinary tract infections. Since starting her on this food the trips to the vet have minimized!
by Jason on 12/29/2022
This product is amazing! It is totally essential for both my cats as they can both suffer from UTI's but whenever they are on it they are always so healthy. We are at a loss at the moment though as nobody has it in stock due to a supplier issue. This is so disappointing and we are getting stressed that our babies may get sick again without it! Hoping you can fix this issue very soon.
by Emma on 04/05/2022
My cat does not like it I have to throw it away after I offer it to my cat he even gives me a dirty look when I put it in his bowel. Pitty so much money going to waste. Would be great if it didn't have wheat corn and soy and ash in it amongst other things. Next time I'll definitely read what's in a product before I buy.

Saved my 10yo male Ragdoll from bladder surgery for struvite stones. Worked within a couple of days and he's been symptom free for over 3 months now. No surgery. Happy kitty. I'm too scared to stop using this food now but it is worth it. I'll be ordering the wet food too next for a treat.
by Poopie-Bear on 01/30/2021
My cats need to eat this food from time to time as my male cat has issues with crystals. Both my cats won't touch this food and hate it, they would rather starve than eat this food. I fill their bowl and it's untouched hours later, it's so frustrating spending so much money on this food and not having my cats eat it. Every day I throw out a ton of it. Hills, please make this food more palatable for cats as another reviewer suggested!! Because the product works well to dissolve stones but if the cats won't eat it, and my male cat doesn't like wet food so this is the only product I can feed him to dissolve the stones.
by Adora Jay on 06/16/2020
Dear Science Hill my vet put my cat on the c/d dry food...he had a urinary tract obstruction, I wondered why he would not eat this food I read the label and discovered it has pork in it, I was truly shocked. This is not a good products for cats, we in our family never consumed pork and I do not feed it to my cat. I am disappointed that my vet even suggested I give it to him. Not a happy camper about this.

I could see one cat not liking but both my cats won't eat this food and it's going on three days now.i have tried everything including pouring sodium free chicken broth on top , nothing , why can't it be made flavorful tasting to cats ?
by Marykate on 09/18/2019
Both my cats won't eat this food no matter what I try , anyone help please ?
by Kat on 09/18/2019
My 16 year old has bladder crystal problems. Since eating this dry food exclusively, she no longer has issues. I free-feed my 3 cats, and my other two enjoy eating CD too!
by Kaitnip on 02/06/2018
My cat now requires prescription food for a urinary issue. We first tried a different brand and my picky eater wouldn't touch it. But she LOVES her prescription c/d, both the dry and canned. Happy cat, happy pet parent!!
by Maisy Mom on 07/17/2017
I wrote a review three years ago regarding c/d and my cat. I believe this food has really helped him--no urinary problems. I also have a timer feeder which I think helps (timed for twice a day) because he knows he's going to get fed at a certain time every day no matter what. One thing I didn't realize was this food has a lot of fat in it and he was gaining weight. After slowly adjusting portions back down, he is in great shape. Acts like a kitten half the time.
by Kikiweaver on 06/25/2017
When my kitten was 6 or 7 months old, he started having urinary issues due to crystals. He has been on CD for over 6 months now and loves the food; it really makes a huge difference. My older cat is an incredibly picky eater and this food has helped her as well (but in gaining weight!). We do a mix of wet and dry (first wet food my older kitty has actually gone for)
by Xandra on 06/24/2017
Our cat has had urinary/stress issues for years now. We had to put her on prescription urinary food when she was about a couple years old because our vet said she may have crystals in her urine. The food that she was put on, really affected her personality and at a couple points they thought she would need to be put on antidepressants. About 5 months ago, a specialist recommended that our vet switch Cali from a different prescription brand were had been using for about 6 years, to the Hill's, and she has regained the perky personality traits she had prior to when we began using the old brand of food. She has not had any out-of-the box accidents, has stopped vomiting her food up, gained weight, and has become much more happy and social. We still have some issues with her licking the fur off he skin, but not so much and not as in so many places. I just wish our prior vets would have thought to consult with a specialist so she could have been switched to the Hill's many years ago, which would have relieved so much of her stress/urinary issues sooner, and also saved a few thousand on vet costs. Thank you, Hill's for giving us our old perky kitty back! She is SOOOOOO much happier now & so are my husband and I. :)
by Momof2cats on 06/12/2017
Not super happy with quality of product or price..
by Teran on 01/09/2017
It's great. My boy has not had any more issues with crystals but if he eats it my other three have to also and I find it really expensive and it just keeps going up.

I have two male cats who had suffered in the past from urinary blockages. Any owner who's had their cat suffer from this knows how uncomfortable ( and possibly fatal ) this can be. My Vet recommended to change their food to the C/D and two years later both of my boys are happy and health with no relapses. Thank you to Hill's for providing a product that they love to eat and keeps them healthy! Regards, Anna, Tater and Kahlua

We nearly lost one last summer. All was well until it wasn't and he was paralyzed and in excruciating pain. We immediately rushed him to the ER where they cleared him. The next day we transferred him to our vet hospital where they treated him like royalty. It took a bit of doing, but now all of them are on this food and some heavier ones are slimming down. Thank you.
by GrumpyGranny on 08/24/2016
All of my cats are eating this food now exclusively. I have actually saved money on vet visits because their little health issues have resolved. My older cat had a nervous habit of plucking out his fur on one side...Tried everything, considered medication, changed to this food and his fur has grown back, he is more relaxed and has given up his nervous habit. My semi feral kitten was immediately calmer and less skittish on this food. I highly recommend it!
by Sudio22 on 07/22/2016
Our cat has not been peeing outside of the litter box as much as before starting this food. We do a combination of dry and wet food and he loves it. Our other cats also like it (when he shares, that is)
by Cardigan Sue on 07/21/2016
I have 2 male cats and our vet recommended Hill's Prescription Diet for them after both had to undergo expensive medical treatments. They have been on Hill's for a few years now, and I really believe it has helped them avoid further rounds of this condition. And amazingly, both cats like the food-- we have one who is rather picky and I'm glad he really enjoys it every day.
by Sapphirestar on 07/19/2016
My stressed out kitty wouldn't stop playing in the litter box. He is now happy & healthy with this diet along with behavior modification.
by yhilber on 07/17/2016
OUR TWO CATS LOVE C/D STRESS. THEY STAY VERY HEALTHY ON THIS DIET.
by DONNIE on 07/14/2016
I have used this food for a few years now and it keeps my 10 year old cat out of touble with crystals in his urine. Its a few dollars more, but I can usually find a couppon that the company gives me.

My cat Stanley became ill with crystals blocking his urinary track during his 2nd year. One day he was fine and the next... Well, he was in pain and couldn't urinate properly. It's scary to see your pet in distress so you immediately pack up to the vet and hope the best in the emergency. My vet was great and helped Stanley through that life threatening ordeal. He recommended Hills CD Prescription Diet and Stanley has been enjoying it to this very day... Stanley will be 10 years old this October. He's never had another urinary problem because of Hills CD Prescription Diet, we also include Hills CD Urinary Care Stews in Stanley's regular diet for variety and health care. Thank you Hills for providing good healthy foods for our animals growth and welfare. Sincerely; Cornelius Burkey

Our 2 1/2 year old Male Ragdoll Bandit was noticed to be frequently visiting his litter box to relieve urinary discomfort. A immediate visit to out veterinary clinic for diagnosis revealed a very high urinary Crystal level. X Ray procedure did not reveal any other harmful conditions. Our vet placed him on Hills c/d multicare prescription diet food.It was a real challenge to slowly adapt him to the newly prescribed Hills c/d diet dry food. Our patience paid off! Bandit is thriving on his Hills c/d prescription food! Recent urine tests revealed normal urinary function, his appetite is excellent, and his digestive system function is also much improved compared to his previous dry kibble diet. Hills Prescription Diet c/d Multicare works for Bandit! A healthy pet works for us too!

My vet put my kitty on the C/D Stress last fall when she was making herself sick stressing out that the birds had flew south and her garden was no more. She got a UTI from not drinking enough water and was also not eating. She is now a very happy and healthy kitty. She does not get stressed out about the birds and is no longer stressed out around strangers or other pets being around. She use to go and hide anytime someone came to visit. She also wants to cuddle more. I recommend this to anyone who has a stressed out or high strung kitty.

Seem less transition. Both cats seems to like it however it is rather expensive. Coupons would help
by Meemer78 on 07/05/2016
I have been using CD Prescription Diet, for more than 15 years. y 2 male cats need it and the 2 females love it also. Sometimes, the dog will it too! I am on a limited income, and always have to cut something out of my food budget since I cannot find a coupon every time! That is my only complaint! Otherwise my cats and the dog love the food and the males been good, no urinary tract infection, one of my males is 18! Excellent product! Julie Lamz

I put all six of my cats on this product and have had no further problems. I just wish it was more affordable.
by Pammie on 07/01/2016
My two cats were prescribed this cat food due to urinary issues that were not corrected just being on antibiotics. They seem to like the flavor as they eat it all up and so far (knocking on wood), they have not had any more issues.

All 3 of our cats are on Prescription Diet c/d dry and wet food from our Veterinarian. Plus they love it.. I hope maybe in the near future you will come out with c/d snacks and possibly other favors besides chicken and fish.. As of now I put their dry c/d food in a small container and shake and tell them it's crunchy snacks.
by Catlady 3 on 06/29/2016
i have a couple times a year when i have strangers using basement potty room and this has helped my 2 cats that tend to get urinary tract infections when stressed and this has helped during those times. i mix this with their Hills Prescription Diet c/d Multicare Feline w/Chicken dry food. i have 6 cats eating this dry food.
by pandabear on 06/29/2016
I bought a bag, because my vet thinks your product is the best. However, every good vet knows that cats do not need corn in their diet. But Hills has the vets believing that it is important. The vet also gave me several cans of food as samples. My cat won't eat any of the samples nor the dry cat food. Way overpriced for corn!!!
by None1 on 06/14/2016
MY cat loves this and it is really helping him with his Urinary problem ! Thanks to my Veterinary and her staff for recommending this food for him!
by crazypetlady on 04/14/2016
I have four cats, ages ranging from 6 to 17 years old. Think I have tried almost every type of Science Diet created to try to reduce puking and uti's. At least the dog isn't so picky food-wise!
by Nothing on 03/10/2016
I had to transition my male cat to the prescription food, so my female went, too. They both love it. I gave them four stars, however, because there are only two flavors in the 5.5 oz size. I wish they would put some of their other flavors into the larger sizes so my cats can have a nicer variety.
by PeggyN on 02/21/2016
My cat no longer gets bloody urine from stress since starting this food. She is also more relaxed and not hiding as much in the house. Very pleased.
by KP2207 on 12/17/2015
I was instructed to start using C/D Stress food. I was not happy! I had used this product years ago with another cat and he would not eat it. I bought both dry and wet. To my surprise, not only he loves it, but my other cats do, too! I have switched all three over to the prescription food and they all are very happy and healthy! Rhino has not had problems since starting the prescription diet! Thank you for improving your product! Sheri Santucci

My cat is a very stressful kitty. He was abused as a baby and isn't social with anyone but me. After learning about the c/d stress I figured I would give it a try and see if it helps. Because I do everything possible for him got stress plug ins, created a amazing cat room with cat tree. So got the food and about two weeks after being on it he comes out and sees the other animals and my boyfriend now. (Which has never happened, this cat is 6 years old) so I have remained on the food, cut out the stress plug ins and he's doing amazing. This product is fantastic.

About six months to a year ago, Hills Feline C/D Science Diet Food changed its labels and branding- along with the kibble- forcing the consumer to purchase a "new" food without warning. My veterinary staff said that it is basically the same if you purchase the stress diet vs the urinary C/D metabolic...but when reading the ingredients, it clearly indicates that the protein source is different. I was saddened by the lack of warning brought to the consumer...especially knowing that this is geared towards cats with sensitive systems due to dietary issues. As a former vet tech, I find that my vet staff is usually quite helpful, but when they had no warning with the product change either...it was another low blow when the product is already rather expensive. I will admit that when comparing this brand to other prescription diets, it is less marginally expensive...and I REALLY appreciate the mail-in-rebate opportunities. The resealable velcro bags are a great idea, however when the mail-in rebate requires cutting out the UPC label on the bottom of the bag, it renders the velcro useless. Perhaps there is a better way to this process so we may take advantage of both of your great offers at the same time. May velcro and rebates join forces while our cats dine on your kibble. Thank you.

In conjunction with canned c/d for preventative maintenance we have also been using Urinary Care dry c/d Multicare Feline Stress. Since starting this there has been a big difference in the dynamics with our 3 cats. My most aggressive male is not nearly as wound up as usual. My scardy cat male, who was frequently the target of the aggressive male, is not nearly as jumpy or skiddish and actually stands his ground most of the time now. We confirmed that this wasn't just coincidence when we accidentally bought the non-stress formula and noticed the cats falling back into some of their old behaviors. As soon as we had them back on the stress formula we started noticing the calmer behavior returning.
by zabs4 on 10/06/2015
The urinary stress dry was recommended by my Vet for our cat who was having urinary issues related to stress. My son has high anxiety issues and I guess our support girl got the stress from him! At any rate this has helped with her urinary issues. The only problem is the price and if it could come in other "flavors". She gets tired of the same formula.
by ZoeyGirl on 09/21/2015
I am grateful for your product as it allowed Riley to stay at my mother's nursing care facility. Riley was urinating many places other than the litter box and it was creating a problem. The staff suggested removing the cat. I asked to try the urinary stress product recommended by my vet. The use of your product and the relocation of the litter box helped a great deal. No more accidents. Grandma and Riley are both happy. Thank you. its worth the price.
by mr58 on 09/21/2015
My cat's health is good on this prescription food, and he likes it very much. I wish it weren't so expensive. We have no choice but to feed it to him, and it is a challenge to pay for it.
by AmyJ on 09/15/2015
My cats both love this food and with changes in my household constantly I believe it's helped keep their stress levels down as well as keeping their urinary health constant. I have recommended this food to many clients.
by DonnaCVTLVT on 06/02/2015
I have been feeding both of my cats the C/D Stress dry and canned. They love the taste of the dry. The canned not as much, I think because its not a pate. However, I can see a difference in both of my cats, who were anti-social and scared of people. They are more friendly, want to be petted more often, and don't hide as much. The only downside with this food is that my male has gained a significant amount of weight. At least 2 lbs. I am hoping that there will be a new diet available soon that is the C/D stress and metabolic.
by Julierae812 on 05/29/2015
My 10 year old cat started doing some inappropriate urination after moving to our new house. We have 2 large dogs and he would isolate himself to the upper floor of the new house. He never came downstairs and hung out with the family after the move. After being on the C/D Multicare Stress diet for 2 weeks, he is a much happier, less stressed cat. He now hangs out with us, and the 2 dogs, in our family room. It's so nice to see him feeling more comfortable being around the dogs. The inappropriate urination has also decreased dramatically! I'm so glad we switched his diet.
by Janelle on 05/20/2015
After moving to a new house, once I started my cats on the c/d stress, the inappropriate peeing on my pillow stopped!!
by feldie on 05/19/2015
My sweet kitty was having urinary issues- going outside her box, all over the house and my clothing and furniture! I was frustrated but also concerned for my pet's urinary health. I brought her to my vet for an examination and tests. As it turns out, she had irritation from stress- my new puppy was giving her some serious anxiety. We changed her food and she now has been on C/D Multi Urinary Stress for nearly a year- of which we have had no more accidents in the house and she is such a happy cat! I love this food and am so glad it is helping her feel better and alleviate her stress!
by oliviarichelle on 05/19/2015
C/d stress has completely stopped my cats inappropriate urination. She seems happier and is actually coming around for pets. In the past she would run and hide when anyone would be near.
by Missy90 on 05/19/2015
It used to be that Spot, our cat would always be nervous. When we had company over, she would hide and pull her hair out. Since we started feeding her the C/D Multicat Feline Stress she isn't as nervous, and she doesn't pull her hair out anymore! She still hides but I don't think a food would ever be able to help with that! Thanks and keep up the great food.
by poodlegirl on 05/19/2015
Cat was not using litterbox for 5 months. Tried so many other things like food, medications, new litterboxes, added different litter....the list goes on but put my cat on this food and after 2 months...no inappropriate elimination and seems to be less stress among my 3 cats!
by Gorski77 on 05/19/2015
I was afraid there would be a big difference between the regular C/D and the Stress formula, but my cat took to it without any issue. The smell of his waste has decreased in potency when he appears to be upset.
by lowodor on 05/14/2015
My kitties refused to eat it and I had to bring it back to the vet for a refund.
by mishach on 04/24/2015
my cats are very shiny now and hopefully will save their life!
by maryduke on 01/22/2015
This food has kept our kitties from getting urinary tract infections. They don't eat it as fast as other foods so it must be satisfying. We are having some behavioral issues so I was hoping it would help with the stress which I don't really see any difference. I just wish it wasn't so pricey.
by DRT1958 on 01/04/2015
My cat has been on c/d feline dry for over 5 years and has lucky not had any crystal and plugging episodes since on the food. He enjoys the taste and I'm very happy this product helps me not worry about crystals. I recently switched him to new c/d urinary stress because he has developed a spraying problem ironically and wanted to see if it would help him. It does not due to much difference but he enjoys it. The only reason I did not give this product an excellent is due to the shape of the kibble. The original shape of the kibble when I first started feeding my cat c/d seemed to be more appealing to him. I noticed that when the shape of the kibble changed to its current shape he showed less interest and started to get into my other cats food which is the science diet active adult because he loves the shape of that kibble. I would just recommend changing the shape and size of the kibble back to its original shape 5 years ago, besides that this product does great.

We have 8 indoor only cats their ages range from 2 1/2 yrs. to 10 years. Our one 2 1/2 yr. old male had a urinary track blockage and also has stress issues. So the vet recommended he be on c/d urinary stress. Since we have 8 it is easier to have them all on the same food. They seem to like the food well enough. The one it was prescribed for still has soft bowel movements from it, but he is doing well and the vet isn't worried since it isn't diarrhea. The only thing I would like to see change is make it available in the 13 lb. bags to where I could set up a automatic shipment from the vet. They say that since it a newer formula that you haven't made it available that way yet. It would be nice if it was available in even a little larger size bag than the 13 lb. All in all I am happy with the product and the cats are happy also. I have tried the wet food in the c/d urinary stress and they don't seem to like it. They eat just a small amount of it and the rest ends up getting thrown out so I won't buy the wet any more.
by CathyB on 12/05/2014
I'm feeding this product to two cats as they can't be separated when feeding dry food, only one has urinary tract issues. I can't truly rate the quality as they have been eating it for less than three months. My cats have a tendency to go off their food after a time; I really would like to give them variety with another flavor also. I would appreciate being able to print new coupons when the old ones expire.
by Boyz2 on 10/23/2014
My cat has urinary crystal issues but with the feline c/d dry food he is free from that problem. It is expensive to feed him and with 4 other cats I have no choice but to give all of them the same food, however, his health is my prime consideration so we feed it to them all. I would recommend prescription diet c/d to anyone who has a cat with this issue.

They certainly look good now! AND my cat has not developed a UTI since. The ph certainly made a difference

My cat's vet recommended he be put on this special diet. He love this food and I think the food is a great product and overall great quality. The price is not as attractive, but it is worth it to have my cat be happy and healthy!
by KittyLover3 on 10/07/2014
I am not sure of the taste since the cats do not speak my language; but, they do run to the food bowl when they hear me filling it up.

Our Siamese cat gets UTI's fairly often. Prescription C/D was prescribed and that seems to have helped. Also, China has some nervous tics that cause her to pull her hair out. The vet recommended Prescription C/D Stress Formula. What a world of difference! After 3 days we saw a marked change in China's behavior.

Having to switch primarily to a prescription cat food my cat will eat it. Only wish it would also come in fish & beef or possibly a combo of all three?
by Wafflesmom on 09/27/2014
I know it is for urinary stress but our senior cat Boris is more relaxed and chases his sister less and not as aggressively. Less stress for us and Natasha.
by johnNjudi on 09/13/2014
I have a multi-cat home, 6. I have 2 male cats that I have to feed the Urinary Tract food and one of my males is somewhat aggressive, he picks on the others. Since I have been feeding this product to all of my cats they seem to be getting along much better. This product is a little pricy but the results make it worth the money. The only draw back is that I have to order the food from my vet, there isn't anywhere on the Hills Science Diet website that I can order on-line.
by kat610 on 09/10/2014
From the first bite, my girl has benefited from this food. She seems more relaxed, less stressed, and she is not urinating outside the litter box. Only negative is that this food contains corn. I really wish Hill's would discontinue the use of this ingredient. Otherwise, it would be perfect.
by Toby66 on 08/31/2014
Our cat can be a picky eater when it comes to dry food. We switched to the Hills prescription diet and she can't get enough of it! We can no longer fill her bowl for the day she loves it that much!! We are super satisfied with the product and wouldn't use another food!
by Muehler11 on 08/27/2014
Great product please make it in a bigger bag. We are a multi cat and a bigger bag would be easier than 2 or 3 bags at a time.
by ValRay12 on 08/21/2014
I use both the wet and the dry. He doesn't love it but he eats it. He hated the stuff in the big cans but will eat the newer kind in the small cans. But,the bottom line is that it works. I stopped it for a while and he crystals came back. It isn't cheap but it is cheaper than the vet bills. I really think the stress reduction part is amazing. Our cat always got sick when we had houseguests or lots of commotion going on. He just now sailed through my daughters wedding with a ton of people in and out and a week with her cat living with us while she was away. He was calm through it all.
by Nace on 08/16/2014
My cat has had UTIs for most of her life. I switched to the c/d but her issues were always stress induced. As soon as this stress brand came out, I quickly had my clinic order it. It has been great. Even my other cat who has no UTIs but is a picky eater LOVES this cat food. I would recommend this food to anyone with a cat that gets UTIs.
by Amarthin95 on 07/31/2014
I had a male cat with urinary issues, behavior issues, and crystals in his urine. My vet suggested C/D urinary stress formula. I have seen drastic improvement. So relieved to have something that will help, and I know it is all around healthier than what I was feeding them. I have 7 cats. They all love it. I was worried about that because decades ago my cat would not eat this food. I do worry about the 2 females who have weight issue because I understand cats can gain weight on this food. I seriously worry how long I will be able to afford it. It is very expensive and I am feeding seven cats! The coupons help.

I feel this product helps to keep my cat healthy , not to mention he loves it !
by Sher69 on 07/23/2014
I was told by my Vet that my cat, who is 11 years old now, should be switched to Hills CD diet instead of the original Hills product. I have always fed her Hills products since she was a kitten. She never turns her nose up and walks away from her Hills food.. Thanks Hills, CAROLYN

My cat eats it but he prefers to eat non CD food that our other cat eats. Probably flavor issues. I have concerns on the price as the cost at my vet's office seems to rise on a regular very frequent basis. The online coupons help when available. I think our non CD cat likes it better than our CD cat. Go figure.

I have a male (neutered) cat who is experiencing stress (move, new animals in home) and starting urinating outside his box for the first time ever (very experienced traveler). Took to vet, they gave antibiotic shot and recommended c/d. I started him on it, but he did not like it. I wasn't sure if it was a physical or mental problem--this cat is a big "scaredy cat". I went another couple of weeks with similar problems, finally got a urine sample for the vet, and was again told he would have to go on c/d. When I finally understood the problem (this vet explained problem thoroughly), I again put him on it and it helped immediately. He seems to like it fine now. He has only been on it two or three weeks. The only problem is, no treats. I'm thinking of buying the canned food, cutting it into small pieces and drying in oven . . . My cat will run like crazy for a treat.

This product keeps my cat healthy. He didn't like changing food at first but now he's ok with it. I'll keep using this cat food because it keeps him healthy.

Our cats enjoy your product. We just wish it didn't cost so much, or at least had better coupons available more often

The vet recommends this food, and Kitty loves it. It must be healthy and taste good.

Hill's Prescription Diet c/d multicare feline urinary stress dry food has made a great difference for my rescued American Curl cat. He was in pain when he urinated due to the formation of crystals. He no longer shows discomfort when he urinates My vet has me continue the Hill's c/d for my American Curl and my two Himalayans as a preventive measure to maintain their urinary tract health.

My only complaint is the packaging, the ziplock top just doesn't close very well.
