HISTORY

Thought to have come from the Isle of Man, just off the coast between England and Ireland, the Cymric is thought to be one of the oldest of all naturally occurring breeds. Because of the island's small, isolated nature, traits like being tailless and heterochromia became common. One of the first breeds to be officially โ€˜fancied,โ€™ there are records of them in cat shows dating back to the 1800s.

Cymrics are phenomenal house cats because of their incredibly loving, smart, friendly demeanor. They are great with children and other pets, and are always open to pal around. They love to be outside and are naturally good hunters. They exhibit certain dog-like characteristics, such as playing fetch, and growl at intruders. They are strangely enamored with shiny objects, and are known to jump and leap around sporadically. They are fast learners and make for a perfect lap cat. .

Appearance

The Cymric is a stumpy, medium sized cat with big, loving eyes (occasionally in mismatched colors), and a big round head. Their hind legs are longer than their forelegs, giving them an unusual posture. Some are completely tailless, while others have a little nub. Their coat is long and soft, with a distinctly arched back. Overall, they are a unique looking, compact breed.
