Getting Past Sandy: How to Help Pets Affected by the Storm

Hurricane Sandy may have moved on from the East Coast, but the destruction left by the storm won't pass so quickly. Our thoughts are with all those whose families and homes have been affected by the storm.Disasters like this wreak havoc on lives and property, and all too often pets are affected as well.

If you're looking for a way to help, here are some great charities that are hard at work right now helping pets and pet parents get back on their feet.

North Shore Animal League America

has taken in over 100 animals from families forced to evacuate before, during, and after the storm due to flooding and dangerous conditions. Families have been able to leave unsafe homes knowing that their pets are being cared for.

The Humane Society of the United States

(HSUS) has helped residents in the path of the storm find pet-friendly shelters and will continue to coordinate donations to animal shelters. Their Animal Rescue team is at work in New York and New Jersey helping animals in need right now.The

(ASPCA) is accepting donations to help the nearly 300 animals staying with their owners in New York City shelters.The
