The
National Dog Show airs tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day at noon, and we'll all see who won Best in Show! If you want to be in the know, keep your eye out for:
1. The Newbies
Three new dog breeds will compete for the first time this year:
Photo from the Chinook Club of America
Chinook: A sled dog first bred in New Hampshire, their name means "warm winter winds" and they'reย New Hampshire's state dog.
Rat Terrier: Bred to hunt vermin, these dogs are balls of energy who love play. They have parti-colored, or two colored, coats.
Portuguese Podengo Pequeno: Related to the Pharaoh Hound,
Ibizan Hound, Cirneco dell'Etna, and
Basenji, this pedigreed pup is small in size but is the very picture of a distinguished companion.
2. The Reigning Champ
Wire Fox Terriers have won in 2011 and 2012, making them the reigning champ two years in a row. 2011's winner, Eira, and 2012's, Sky, were the first dogs of the same breed to win back-to-back.
3. Who's the Winner?
The event has already concluded, but we'll just have to wait for the show to air to see who wins! One dog from New Jersey has been getting some media coverage, though:
Michael the Newfoundland.I'm not placing my bets just yet, but he sounds like a bundle of love.
