HISTORY
Believed to be the descendants of the ancient Spitz breeds, the Pomeranian is essentially a toy version of one of these sled-pulling breeds. Originally much larger, the first Pomeranians were used as herding dogs, helping farmers keep their sheep in line. After not too long, members of the upper echelon began to keep these dogs as house pets, which is when the gradual shrinking of this breed began. The Pomeranian was first acknowledged as a breed by the AKC in 1888.

Personality
Pomeranians make for excellent show dogs, thanks to their hightened intelligence and their lively personality. They are inquisitive, cocky, and affectionate, which makes them a great companion to many, including those who typically think less of smaller dogs. They excel at learning tricks because of their heightened intelligence, which can act like a double edged sword, inasmuch as they are able to perceive any weakness in your role as pack leader and are unafraid to usurp your place. One must be careful not to play to their cute exterior, letting them get away with anything. They must be trained just like you would a larger dog, lest you end up with a miniature terror on your hands. .
Color
Pomeranian patterns and colors include black and tan, brindle, parti-color, and solid colors such as black, blue, tan, cream, brown, red, and sable.
