HISTORY
The little cousin of the Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is one of a number of French breeds that were bred down to a smaller size in the 16th century. Used to hunt rabbit, this breed is considered a scent hound. They were recognized by the AKC in 1991.

The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is a smart, chipper, friendly, funny little dog. Bold and curious, this dog loves to go exploring. This breed requires a firm hand in order to be properly socialized. They are great with children, and can learn to live with cats, but are not safe to be left alone with other small animals. If a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen thinks that they are smarter than the people in their home, they will assume the role as pack leader, and this is when things can get out of hand. .
