HISTORY
Named for the French province of Brittany, the Brittany Spaniel goes back to around 150 AD. Despite looking a lot like the Welsh Springer Spaniel, the Brittany Spaniel is believed to be the product of the cross breeding of the Orange and White Setter with some other unknown French breed. Used for bird hunting because of their proclivity for pointing, this breed has become more and more popular throughout the years. The Brittany Spaniel was first recognized by the AKC in 1934.

Appearance
The Brittany Spaniel is medium-sized and has a compact body with fairly long legs. Their strikingly beautiful amber or hazel eyes reflect a certain intelligence. The dog has a rounded skull of medium-length, a slightly ram-shaped muzzle and short and triangular ears with high withers. Their ears hang close to the head and their tail is either naturally short or docked. The average height of the breed ranges from 17 to 21 inches and they weigh 30 to 40 pounds.
