Aside from domesticated pets living in the same house, it is not often that two members of different species end up becoming friends. And even then, not all pets get on so well. Tons of families have a cat or a dog that simply refuses to make nice with the other pets. So when a story comes out about a cat that has befriended an owl, it is sure to give many pet parents pause.
“So this cat can manage to make friends with freaking a barn owl, but our Buster can’t muster the courage to be in the same room as our dinky dachshund for more than 30 seconds.”
But when you think about it, a cat and an owl would make a pretty natural duo. Both are highly specialized hunters that go after a similar type of prey. They are both extremely cautious. And, evidently, if they are comfortable around someone, they can be quite playful!
Meet Fum & Gebra
Gebra is a barn owl that was trained in falconry. That means she is comfortable with her handler and is somewhat more domesticated than her ‘wild’ brethren.
Fum is an extremely active black cat who spends the lion’s share of his time outdoors, hunting and exploring.
And, if that wasn’t enough, there is even a children’s storybook about their miraculous friendship.
Sadly, Fum passed away two years ago, but thanks to the miraculous photographs and videos, their story will live on forever.
