yzine xWe have a 7 yr. old black lab. After years of watching him scratch, lick his feet constantly and have reoccuring ear infections we decided to have allergy testing done. I give him shots but we aren't at the full level yet. He still itches and licks. Our vet said that we could give him the Temaril P as before but the only problem is that if the shots are working, we won't really know if it is the shots or the Temaril P. We feel that we need to give him something anyhow at least for awhile. My actual question is that I was wondering if Hydroxyzine would have the same effect as the Temaril P? It is so much cheaper. I hate to call the vet again (always seem to be calling him) plus I hate to ask him because I am not getting the Temaril from him. I thought that I would ask you first before I asked the vet. Thank you and if you have any other suggestions, please feel free to say.
Your vet and you are doing everything right. Sometimes the allergy shots don't work to well and you need to relieve the discomfort with medication. I like Temaril-p b/c it is a combo of steroid and antihistamine. I find that the hydroxyzine does not work as well but with the allergy shots it might do the job. It wouldn't hurt to try it first. Good luck, vetcare
