My 10 year old cat has been given lactulose to treat constipation. He is very overweight (apprx 22 lbs.) He was so blocked up he spent a few days in the emergency center. I am concerned with what kind of food to give him. He also has had repeated problems with crystals in his urine which have caused blockages in the past. He has been on a diet of Hills Prescription diet R/D mixed with 1/3 S/D. W/D has been suggested to me as being higher in fiber. What do you think? Also, is the lactulose safe for long term use.
Lactulose is safe and both foods are good. You can also add canned pumpkin to the diet to help with the fiber intake. vetcare
