We found a kitten on the river banks in July. He was starving, had eye very bad eye infections, worms, intenstinal infection, he weighed 1.5 lbs. Everything is cleared up except the eye infection and he has been loosing hair around the bottom lip and around his eyes and a spot on his shoulder and two front paws where he cleans his face w/paws. he now weighs about 5 pounds. We have used teremyacin ointment and another ointment before that along with two antibiotic treatments. why won't the infection go away??
First, the hair loss may be a fungal infection called ringworm and i recommend that a vet see your pet. The eye infection is probably viral and sometimes these infections are difficult to cure. Has your cat been tested for felv and fiv. These viruses suppress the immune system and may also be the reason why the infection in the eye is so persistant. Your vet may want to culture the eye to find out the best type of antibiotic for the eye. Good luck, vetcare
