I have two stray outdoor kittens I have been feeding. They both have had eye infections since they were babies (they're now about 8-9 weeks old). There is thick mucous that sometimes dries their eyes shut. One has lost the use of his right eye--it look like he has a cataract. They also sneeze. My landlord says it's a very contagious disease to children, and I'm worried about having them around my grandchildren. Have you heard of this problem? I live in Southern California.
This sounds like an upper respiratory infection that should be addressed and treated by a vet. Antibiotics will help. No, the infection is not contagious to people but intestinal parasites can be through the fecal oral route and I do not know how clean stray cats are. vetcare
