I have had several cats over the 14 years I have lived in my current house. Most, but not all, of them have suffered from a summer skin condition that manifests as crusty, itchy patches usually around the neck and at the base of the tail causing hair loss and misery for the animals. All my cats are indoor animals who never have contact with outside or strange animals. I've tried OTC sprays, ointments, herbal remedies and prescription salves. Steroid ointments seem to be the only effective solution but are difficult to apply with any degree of regularity or consistency of coverage. More importantly, I'm uncomfortable with the potential side effects of steroid use. Do you have any idea what could be causing this and/or any suggestions for a remedy? Is it possible that there is something in my house to which they may be allergic? And, why haven't all of my animals been victim to this malady? Thanks for your reply.
This sounds like a flea allergy. I recommend good flea control int he summer. Adavntage is one of the best. vetcare
