My husband and I have a 12 year old sharpai that's been with us since a puppy. Recently we moved to Phoenix, Arizona and are beginning to notice our dog is losing weight rapidly. She seems to have no appetite for her food and not a whole lot for meat scraps which is very unlike her. She is very listless. Before moving to Phoenix we lived in the Northwestern part of the U.S. which tends to be cooler. About 2 years ago she was diagnosed with failing kidneys that resulted in incontinence and the Vet prescribed a form of estrogen which worked for a while but then was switched over to phenylpropanolamine which has worked successfully so far. I'm not sure if her current behavior is linked to her kidney condition or not. Do you have any ideas?
It sounds like the current condition could be related to the kidneys or another serious problem. I recommend that you see a vet for blood tests etc.. The weight loss and lack of appetite is probably not related to the heat. Good luck, vetcare
