My mom's puppy (4 mos.) has a mite infection causing raw skin lesions. She claims her vet says this is common in young puppies and will clear up on its own without treatment and is not contagious to my dog, a 6-year old Sheltie. My dog is hypo-thyroid and subject to dry skin anyway, and I've been keeping her isolated since I'm skeptical about this. I'm afraid of mange. Have you heard of this? What is the danger to my dog?
It sounds like your puppy has demodex which is a type of mange found in young puppys. It is true that it is not contagious. I usually treat it with Mitaban dips every 2 weeks until it is gone. Usually 2 dips does the job. good luck, vetcare
