Our 3yr old DLH silver tabby,
neut female, began having grand mal seizures shortly after her 1st birthday. She had been abandoned by her mother @4 weeks and we raised her. (We have her half sister too who is quite healthy and a year younger).
We have been able to reduce the frequency of her seizures by feeding her a diet rich in liver and a daily cat vitamin. If she is near us we can tell by her behavior(very affectionate) that she is about to seize. We can also tell by her behavior (very aggressive) that she has just had one that we did not witness.
Is there anything we can give her(i.e. dilantin or such) to prevent her seizures?
The seizure starts with a wail, she goes rigid, becomes incontinent, then seizes violently for 1-3 minutes. She then comes out of it ready to fight with everyone and everything.
Out vet wants to do a bunch of tests to eliminate disease as a factor and we simply cannot afford them.
Currently she is having 3-4 seizures a month.
Due to the frequency of the seizures, I recommend phenobarbitol. vetcare
