My son has a dog who is (10)yrs old, he is part Lab, and part Chow mix, more Lab than Chow he weighs about 100lbs. we have had him to the Vet 2x now to have his anal glands excreted, due to his constant rubbing and twisting his behind on the floor after we took him in the first time they said they were very full and drained them, and told me i should put him on a lite dog food to add more bulk to his diet so he would have firmer stools that would help in keeping his ducts drained. I had to take him back within 2wks for the same thing again, and again she said they were really full, we have had him on this other food for a month now, and he is already twisting his behind again, do you know why? And do you know what we can do to stop this and keep it from happening? It only seems to last a few days before he goes back to the twisting and dragging, he is not on any medication except for Heartguard and Frontline. Any help or suggestions to eliminate this problem would be wonderful.
Stop stressing about this. This is just the way it is with some dogs. No one knows exactly why. If the high fiber food did not work then dicontinue. Ask yor vet to teach you how to release the glands so you do not need to go back and forth. If you are really bothered by the whole thing talk to your vet about surgically removal of the sacs. vetcare
