My 6 1/2 year old Lab/Husky has a tumor on his the shoulder of his front leg. He also has arthritis in his back legs. He is on an antibiotic now and then the vet wants to do surgery. He has trouble on days doing the stairs and I am afraid that after the surgery, he won't be able to do them for awhile. My questions is... how can I keep him from licking, chewing, biting the tumor. It is about 4 inches across. He broke an Elizabethan collar. We are keeping it covered, but he gets it off or eats through the wrapping. If he can't get to it with his mouth, then he uses his back leg. I have worked for a vet before. I have run out of ideas. I am afraid that I will have to put the dog to sleep.
I recommend that you have the tumor removed ASAP. Covering it is the only other option. You can try bitter apple as well but I do not think it will work well. vetcare
