I have taken my 9-lb. shih tzu to the vet three different times regarding the same skin condition, and the vet seems completely and totally perplexed. My dog has raw, itchy spots around her neck that eventually turn into scabs. The vet has prescribed gentocin topical spray, panalog ointment, cefadrops, sulfoxydex shampoo, and has also done a fungal culture. The medications have had no impact, and the culture came up negative. I started using Neosporin (that can be purchased in a regular drugstore over-the-counter). Eventually, the raw spots become scabs and go away with use of the Neosporin, but this has been going on for six months now, and I'd like to resolve the issue. Please help!
It sounds like you need a second opinion with a vet dermatologist. I also recommend a biopsy of the skin to help with a diagnosis. vetcare
