My female mixbreed (Tosca), 7.5 yrs old, is acting sad and depressed lately. (I think she is a mix between german shephard and chow - not sure though) Nothing seems to excite her anymore (she will still eat), but she just lays around and seems so sad (I don't know how to explain it exactly - she just acts completely different and not in a good way). I have talked to my vet about it and asked if there is such a thing as anti-depressant medicines for dogs. But all he gave me were some pills for/against anxiety in dogs (Clomicalm 80 mg). Tosca does not have anxiety attacks and I don't feel right or good giving her the wrong medicine. Is there anything I can give her or do for her to make her a happy dog again?
There is no evidence that dogs suffer from chronic depression like humans do. I would do blood tests to make sure there is no medical problem. vetcare
