I am extremely concerned about my dog Charlie. She is a mixed breed(shepard & min collie-possible sheltie) who is 3 1/2 years old. I rescued her from an abandoned building at approx 10 weeks old and we are not really sure of her exact mix...Over the last 2 months her hair has grown extremely thick, and her breathing has become increasingly labored. This is even in the middle of the night while she is completely relaxed and/or sleeping. I have brought this to my vet's attention; and he believes that it is allergies. The medications we have tried have not helped and I am concerned that she may have some type of respiratory problem. Is this kind of rapid and sudden hair thickening normal? and is there a way she can be tested to find out if she in fact has an allergy or if it is a more serious problem?
I am willing to take on the expense of chest x-rays etc.; however, I would like to have another professional opinion before doing so. I don't want anything to happen to my baby
I recommend that you have the x-rays and blood test taken. Usually hair loss is a sign of a problem, not the other way around. vetcare
