We have a 2 1/2 yr old German Shepard male. We were told he was house broken. We have had him for a few months.
1. When the dog sees my husband he will start urinating. Very rarely will he urninate when he sees me. My husband can walk into the garage where the dog is and the dog starts to urinate on the floor. The dog will do the same when he is outside and sees my husband. what can we do to stop this? We don't give him much water at night time, he is outside all day.
2. Being a male dog, he does not lift his leg to urinate. Why?
Some male dogs do not lift legs when urinating and that is just the way it is. It does not mean your pet has a problem. The urination you descibe is called "excitement urination". The worst thing you can do is repremand your pet b/c this causes "fear urination". Your husband should try coming into the house trough different routes in order to distract your dog. Make sure he does not make eye contact with your dog and he should also ignore your dog until the dog is calm. The dog should also be walked before your husband comes home or more frequently b/c this helps keep the bladder smaller. Some pets out grow this. Thanks, vetcare
