My 14 yr old male cat has suffered with bouts of constipation , colon spasms for years and most recently impaction during the past year. I have taken him to the vet twice this year for feces removal. He has been treated with high fiber diet along with a prescription to be given orally twice a day. Alas, two weeks later Freddy was back in the bathroom with painful straining to eleminate his stools, vomiting, severe spasms, etc. I cannot afford to take him to the vet every 6 months for a $200 removal of impaction. Can you offer any self-help treatment which will make Freddy's and my life less stressful?
This is the typical life of a cat with mega-colon. Have you discussed surgery with your vet. Surgery is one option but you have to be prepared for a high failure rate. vetcare
