I've had a male and female parakeet x2 years. Within the last year they have developed into mating, feeding each other, grooming each other, etc. However, a few days ago the male tried mounting the female and they had quite a fight. They fell to the bottom of the cage wrapped around each other with blood coming from a small wound on the female's head. I immediately separated them x2 days...and then, under supervision, put them back together again, and they've been fine for the last couple of days. However, as they are home alone during the daytime should I separate them before I leave, or was this just a freak incident? They seem very traumatized when I separate them and chirp constantly until they get back in the same cage. Not sure what to do....but certainly don't want to come home and find a dead parakeet. Thanks for your help.
I am sorry but I do not see birds. I only see dogs and cats. you should consult with a bird specialist soon. vetcare
