My dog is a Golden Retriever. I got him from the pound as a puppy. He was malnourished and to the point of death. We live in the South so it gets hot early in the year. I HAVE TURNED ON THE AIR CONDITIONER FOR HIS COMFORT, AND HE STAYS IN THE HOUSE UNLESS WE GO FOR A FEW WALKS A DAY. As soon as it does, he starts biting on his back legs, and around his tail and on his tail. He also licks his front paws. He will bite until he draws blood and has pulverized the skin. I have taken him to the vet and they took scrapings. He does not have mange. They think he has skin allergies. I have put him on benedryl, I have changed his diet, I have used food additives with essential oils for his coat and skin dryness. He becomes restless and uncomfortable.
I bath him with tar and sulfur shampoo and oatmeal shampoo for dogs. I put anititch and cortizone spray on him.
The poor thing has been living in an e-collar for a while now, as I think this is better than letting him damage hi
This does sound like an allergy especailly since it only happens when your dog goes outside. Ask your vet about temaril-p or atarax. This may bring some relief. vetcare
