Please explain the importance of cleaning my elderly dogs and cats teeth. I recently moved and had to find a new veternarian much to my dismay. I Paid 250.00 for all required shots for my dog and a distemper shot for my cat. She is very old too 15 yr. My dog needs updated blood test for a thyroid problem. My question is why didnt he take blood for thyroid test while doing heartworm blood test. Well, I'm having to go back for teeth cleaning for my dog and he says he will perform blood test for thyroid and also remove a wart on her front paw. Is this really necassary? Does she really need her teeth cleaned. My cat is 15 years old and he says she needs her teeth cleaned also. I'm so concerned because she is very thin and she eats all the time, He said he would perform all neccesary procedures to check what her problem might be. I am very financially straped ,but these are my babys what is the best advice.
Bacteria in the mouth resulting from unhealthy gums and tartar can lead to heart disease and infection. Infection in the mouth can lead to loss of appetite and dehydration etc.. Best to keep the mouth clean. vetcare
