I have a 3 year old spayed female springer/lab mix who has had a rare gum irritation. She chews on a cockle burrs when she gets one on her and her gums swell, turn red-infected, white bumps form, and she itches them with her dewclaws and rubs them on the carpet. I have had her in several times for Lyncacine and clavamox and neither did the trick. She had gotten a high fever with it once and the antibiotics took it down but the gums have never returned to normal and still have flare ups. I was told she could have gotten an Auto Immune Disorder from her ivermectin HW pills and/or vaccines and steroids were an option after they were sure it was not blasto. Well, I decided not to do the steroid treatment since they were not bothering her to the point of rubbing at that time. They are still red and always smell, like she has a low grade infection. I am scared to feed her any medications. I was wondering would the daily filaribits be better for her? And what would your opinion be abo
I have never heard of Heartguard causing the reaction that your pet has with the gums. I recommend a biopsy of the gums when she has a flare up. This will give you a diagnosis. It sounds like she has Stomatitis which is controlled with steroids. If you want to try the filarabits that is fine but again, I do not think the heartguard has anything to do with it. vetcare
