We have a five year old Basset Hound in excellent health. However, she tends to develop cysts on her body - some which come and go and others which remain. They do not seem to bother her and our vet said to just keep an eye on them. Recently one swelled and burst. Our vet removed it surgically telling us that infection coule be a worry. We tend to wonder if others will now do the same? What causes a cyst to suddenly swell? Are Basset Hounds prone to these? Thank you.
There are many types of skin cysts. Most originate from the hair follicle. They are common in all dogs. There is not much you can do to prevent them from forming. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice especially if they rupture. vetcare
