Hi, I have a 10 year old choc.lab mix. He has severe dry skin! It seems to affect only certain areas though. Mainly his hind quarters and front legs. It itches him to the point that he chews and scratches till he has open sores. His front legs are so scarred now from repeat occurences. He never started showing this problem until he was about 6 yrs. I have spent hundereds of dollars on medications that only relieve his problem not cure it. I have had him tested for hypothyroid as well as staff and bacteria infections. He has taken steroids and antibiotics for other complications that this problem causes. His vet is totally baffled as well as I am. He is still very active and playful and his appetite never seems to be affected. But this cannot possibly be comfortable him. As for it being a seasonal thing,it is not. He has this problem all year long. It just gets more severe during colder months. What do you think and are there any new methods that I could possibly try?
Thanks for your t
This could be a food allergy. Since you have tried everything else, try a hypoallergetic diet such as science diet Z/D. Good luck, vetcare
