I have a wonderful little cocker spaniel, born deaf, who has extreme anxiety when it comes to grooming. I don't know if she had any trauma (I got her when she was a year old), but it is impossible to reassure her by tone of voice. It takes 4 people to give her a hair cut: one to hold her, one to cut the hair, and two to distract/ entertain her. It takes over two hours just to give her a haircut. She won't let you clean her ears out, and cutting her nails is also a major task. Is there an effective sedative/tranquilizer for grooming anxiety that we could try for her? She is about 2 1/2 now, and in good health.
I am sure your vet could prescribe a sedative for grooming if she is a healthy dog. Your vet would probably want to examine her first. vetcare
