I have a 9 year old female Australian Shepherd (spayed) who suffers from this condition (she's had it for 3 years now). She's lost the hair on the top of her muzzel, around her eye's as well as her foot pads are affected. My vet puts her on predisone when we have really bad flare ups and it seems to dry it up for that period of time (never heals) but as soon as we stop it becomes active again. We have her on triamcinolone (.1%) when her muzzel gets ulcerated and she takes 1000 mg of fish oil per day. I wash her face every other day, to remove the crusts but the they come right back. Is there any other suggestions that you could recommend?
Treatment for pemphigus foliaceus includes, Shampoo therapy to help remove crusts, antibiotics to treat secondary pyoderma, and immunosuppressive doses of oral prednisone. The prognosis is fair to good but lifelong therapy is usually reguired to maintain remission. Vetcare
